LOL! I enjoyed his interactions with Lex's "good" side. I also enjoyed the promise Clark made to Lex's good side. I was thrilled to get some insight into why Clark and later Superman can't completely give up on Lex.

It would have been stronger if that promise could have come out of remembering the good of his friendship with Lex rather than seeing more "poor Lex" sad childhood moments. But whatever.
