I think that scene where Lana was talking to Lionel about being pulled over the edge made no sense. The previous time those 2 spoke about that, Lionel was telling her about retribution and how it could cause Lana to go over the edge into the same darkness Lex fell into. Now Lana turns it around on him, only Lionel (unlike Lana for most of this season) is not out for vengeance. Instead, he's out for justice. He's looking for proof that Lex had Grant killed. If he wanted vengeance, he would go after Lex himself and try to kill him. Justice, unlike vengeance, is a noble aspiration. That's what Clark, Lex, and Chloe were going for in season 3 when they brought down Lionel.
So it makes no sense that Lana spoke about going over the edge. That term has been used to describe characters that were vulnerable to being overcome by evil. Lionel is not in that situation. Instead, what is obvious is that his life will soon be ending. What Lionel is doing is going on a dangerous quest for justice that will end badly for him.
That scene showed that Lana didn't know the difference between becoming evil and seeking justice. Perhaps she does understand but has hidden reasons for not wanting to help him. It just didn't sit well with me.
