The Doctor Dances.
I loved almost everything about this episode, the dialog was witty, the plot was interesting, and managed to be creepy.

Well, I really really liked Voyage of the Damned, it was like a miniature movie and the Christmas theme wasn't so prevalent that it would be annoying to watch at other times. However, I think Blink has to be the one episode every episode has to be measured up to as far as good writing on the show goes. The 3-parter Season 3 finale was also wonderful, but I can't choose a single episode.
Going further back, hmm, The Girl in the Fireplace was outstanding. Weirdly I can't pick any of the first season episodes as my favorite, despite feeling that Eccelston/Rose are the best Doctor/Companion team we've seen. I guess they're just too far back in my mind. Or maybe the writing was just a little too cheesy back then.

Gah! I don't know how I just found this message board, but now that I'm here...
I'd say it's a toss-up between The Doctor Dances (it really was creepy and funny at the same time, and I can still wig out my friend to this day by doing a sing-song "Mummy, Mummy, Mummy!") and The Family of Blood, because DT's acting in that, when he's asking Martha why she'd want him to lead a life where he's lonely, literally brought tears to my eyes.

I have to go with "School Reunion." First because I am a high school teacher and like the idea of terrorizing students. But secondly because of the return of Sarah Jane and K-9.

I just rewatched "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances" and was reminded again how much I LOVE those episodes. Both funny and creepy, I can still get my friend (a non DW fan, whose only seen those two eps) to scream by muttering "Mummy mummy mummy" in a singsong voice. ;)

Sorry, I've tried but picking a single Nu-Who episode/story is impossible. I've got to have all the Steven Moffat ones for starters (Why? They're written by Steven Moffat, that's why!). Then, I can't leave out Human Nature/The Family of Blood or The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit or The Shakespeare Code or...
I'll stop now.
Classic Who is a bit easier. It really ought to be "Genesis of the Daleks" (so many superb moments that even Tom Georgeson's worst ever screen performance - normally brilliant actor does lousy job in minor supporting role as Kaled scientist - and the "Attack of the Giant Plastic Clam" in episode 4 can't spoil it), but somebody's already mentioned that. So, I'll go for "The Caves of Androzani", Peter Davison's final story as the Doctor - and his finest hour. Why? It's got a script by Robert Holmes - Classic Who's best writer. It's the first story to be directed by Graeme Harper - and he does such a brilliant job that it's easy to understand why he's the only Classic Who director to be asked back to direct Nu-Who episodes. There are terrific supporting performances from Robert Glenister, John Normington and Maurice Roeves. And a brilliant bit of casting against type by having ex-ballet dancer Christopher Gable play the horrifically disfigured Sharaz Jek. It's a story that's witty, gritty, exciting, gripping, and episodes 1 and 3 end with two of the series' finest cliffhangers. Oh, and Colin Baker is never better than when delivering his three lines as the newly regenerated Doctor.

Favorite of the new Who would be The Christmas Invasion. Basically the first series and Xmas invasion are my favorites. I do love DT but written wise the first series was the best.

School Reunion . Because it was sceen from two points of view my roomates POV because he was a new Who fan and mines because I was Old/New Who fan. He thought it was a ok episode while I loved it.
My second favorite was Utopia. If anyone has sceen that episode the last ten minutes of it are classic. It could stand up to almost any Who episode.
Favorite Torchwood episode was Reset. Love the tributes martha and Jack were gving to "HIM" . and the fact they were trained under"the same DOctor"

The Talons of Weng-Chiang. Why: the pacing, the humor and the idea.
I hated Talons when I first saw it back in about 1994. Then I kept on hearing about how good it was and last year relented and bought it on DVD - it really is one of the best, isn't it? It has everything - good pacing, humour and a good idea as you say, added to that there's wet t-shirt Leela, the guy who played the Ooompa Lumpa's on heat and a brilliant Fu Manchu vibe. Not my #1 story, but it's certainly up there.
