That, people appeared to know how to drive, and the roads still had the painted lines on them withour any potholes proves that kara cannot be in detroit.

I was being sarcastic. I know that there are good and bad parts of detroit but everytime you hear it or any other city in the lower pennisula of michigan the media makes it look like Sodom and Gomorrah. And the roads in the area's I have been to don't seem to stay nice for more then a week or so.

Maybe Kara will get a job in a hot, sweaty factory somewhere and we'll see how wardrobe can make a blue collar uniform look sexy!

Why do I have a feeling the only job kara will be able to find in michigan will be at a club?

I lived in Michigan my whole life up until now. I worked midnights at a hotel in Detroit for two years 2003-2005 and it was SCARY. Cars in the parking lot got stolen or vandalized almost every night. It's a good thing Kara's got her powers because there are about 600 murders a year there.

haha, they should have put her in ann arbor. That way Kara could have become a UofM football fan. :D
Detroit's not all bad. It's just mostly bad :P I'm just pumped there's some Michigan ties to Smallville now. :)

There are NOT 600 murders here a year .. good lord!!! Detroit hasn't been the murder capitol for quite a while now.. AND the new Riverfront IS very nice :)
However - IF that was actually Detroit, there is NOT a chance that someone in a store would have opened the door, just because she was knocking..
AND -- did Kara lose her powers AND her memory?? She was banging on a GLASS door with her METAL bracelet. If she doesn't know who she is, then she doesn't know her own strength, and her arm should have gone through the door.
.. when Clark lost HIS memory, he didn't remember his powers...

I imagine she will be working in the restaurant where the kindly woman took her inside.
Great way to set up a new series <hope hope>.
And the cook did look at her rather hard, so we have the first "ship" already starting <shudder>.

Okay maybe between 400-600 murders per year and over 800 forceable rapes. In 2004 I know there were about 600 murders. I lived in Michigan my entire life, except for 5 years when I lived in Windsor, ON (right over the border and a direct view to the Detroit riverfront). At the end of the year they even do a recap on the news of all the murders that took place in the year and it is always in that number range, look at the statistics.
The Riverfront is quite pretty, especially when your looking over the river from Windsor the buildings in Detroit look awesome. I drove over the border for 2 years from Windsor through Downtown Detroit to get to work and it is nice to look at. The Fox Theatre, The GM buildings and Comerica Park are all very nice but i'm just saying I would never go for a walk downtown.

I thought she was already in Detroit. No, wait, that was the flashback scene of Krypton. Easy mistake.
Anyway, we're saving all our cars for burning when the Lions actually win a Superbowl, aka The Apocolypse.

400-600 is a huge range! A bad year (2004) had 384 murders which is actually lower than your lowest number. Not something to boast about but not as horrible of a picture that you have painted.

The numbers are dropping because the overall population is dropping. I would like to see the percentage compared to other big cities.

Maybe it wasn't 600 murders in 2004 then but this article says there were 800 people shot in the first 6 months of 2004.
So even if my stats were off on murder, i'd still prefer not to be shot.

It will probably be higher but most big cities have issues with murders.
Memphis (my current residence) has it bad parts. St Louis is also known for its problems with crime.
Miami and Los Angeles as well
BTW, the number of people shot in 04 was 800.

Well New York city has over 8 million people and about 600 murders per year while Detroit has under 1 million people and apparantly about 400 murders per year....and you ALWAYS hear about how dangerous New York is.
Here's a list of the safest and most dangerous cities ranked in 2007
http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0921299.html (http://)
Detroit is number #2 right behind St. Louis and Memphis is #13

Being shot is not the same as being murdered. Yes, they are both bad - but not the same.
As for the new study that says Detroit has the highest crime rate (Second to St. Louis by 1 point) - if you read the whole article, and not just the headline .. several cities were NOT included in the study. Cities like Chicago... Which I'm sure we can interpret to mean that Chicago has NO crime rate at all..
Detroit is not one of the safest cities in the country - by far.. however, if your going to start throwing around numbers and statistics, please use them correctly.

Actually, Philadelphia was named one of the SAFEST cities of the US a year or two ago...
I'm so glad that Kara/Supergirl has been situated in Detroit now.
Now maybe Dwele or Eminem can make a musical or acting appearance on the show!!
YAYYY!!!
You guys saw what happened when Bow Wow appeared on the show...
This time, an Eminem appearance would send ratings for Smallville through the stratosphere!!!
