Multiple sites are reporting this latest news ... I personally don't watch Dr. Who, but felt like posting it up for those of you who do.

DAVID TENNANT will quit hit British TV show DOCTOR WHO in a bid to pursue a career in Hollywood.

Tennant, 36, who made his first outing as the infamous Time Lord in December 2005, will allegedly quit the show next year (08).

According to reports, he will be replaced by John Simm, 35, star of 1999 cult British film Human Traffic.

A source tells British newspaper News Of The World, "John (Simm) is absolutely over the moon.

"He's got a six-year-old son who is a massive Doctor Who fan and he can't believe his dad is going to get to fly the Tardis at work." And Simm is no stranger to the sci-fi series - he already starred in three episodes of the show earlier this year (07), as Doctor Who's nemesis, The Master.

This is a non-story. As said above, the "reports" came from the News of the World, a British sleazepaper tabloid newspaper on Sunday, and were very quickly debunked by the BBC through a statement on Digital Spy.

Which in fairness they didn't need to do, as the original report was so obviously BS to anyone reading it. For a start, there is no series filming in 08, and Tennant's been announced to at least reprise the role in all of the specials that will be taking the place of a full series.

Series 5's Doctor is still up in the air, but seeing as Simm is notorious for not wanting to commit to a series that takes up too much time, Who's gruelling 9 month shoot would surely put him off - Life on Mars' 6 months was too much for him!

Monday's news also saw the rumour of pop starlet Lily Allen being the next companion. That was rubbished too!

I realize the report is BS, but just a quick question regarding Doctor Who as I am only a recent fan and only of the new series. If Tennant ever did quit, would it be possible, storyline wise, for Eccleston to come back? Has the Doctor looked completely different with each regeneration or is there anything in canon that would/has allow(ed) him to regenerate into a previous form?

Don't get me wrong, Tennant has grown on me quite a lot, but hey, if there's even a sliver of hope that my favorite could come back, it'd be information worth knowing.

Ignoring the fact that Eccleston said he would never go back to the role, anything's possible. It's never happened in the past, but at the end of the day it's a science fiction show and ANYTHING can happen. Very unlikely though.

I think your best chance of seeing Eccles-cakes back is in a multiple Doctor story - where the current Doctor meets and works with his previous incarnations.

Funnily enough there's a special along just those lines this very Friday, where Tennant's 10th Doctor meets Peter Davison's 5th...

They don't even have the very little credibility that a tabloid would these days mate. I think they're down there with the sport.

Yeah but is that a threat or a promise? especially with marfaa and donnaaaar hanging about.

And then of course there's the matter of him having played the master - I wonder how they'd get around that. Besides. The only person to have played an adversary before and then been cast as the doctor was colin.

I would have killed davies had it been. The man has no brain and insists on wittering at the best of times...A bad decision like that I think might be enough to put me over the top.

Did Eccleston have a bad experience with the show itself (or the people in charge), or did he just not enjoy the massive amounts of attention?

And look how that turned out...

I don't believe it ever came out to be honest. I know he didn't want to commit to a series, hence why his Heroes run was so short.

I guess he's a movie actor and that's it. He was mates with RTD after working on The Second Coming with him (a mini-series I can't recommend enough - and I'm agnostic), so I think a lot of people think he was doing RTD a favour and getting it launched, getting it noticed.

Ah, sounds plausible. It's too bad he did such a great job (IMO). I mean, it's great that he did such a great job and got the series noticed, but it kinda sucks because it took me that much longer to warm up to Tennant and see him for how great he is. Of course it will likely be the same for whoever comes next if we ever get a new regeneration.

I was told the experience on the doctor who set wasn't pleasant. to be tactful.

I'd heard horror stories about him on the Doctor Who set myself, but what's funny is the Heroes people carried on about Christopher Eccleston like he was one of the nicest, most gracious people they'd met.

My own experience with meeting him was the same - he was one of the nicest actors to me. Of course, I kept to the "don't mention Doctor Who" rule so maybe he appreciated that!

(Oh, the grin I got on my face when he said the word "fantastic" though...)

They are all conspiracy theories, David Tennant said so himself!
