I realize this might be construed as chauvinistic (sp?) but I had a problem with how short-sighted Clark appeared in this episode and ending in him needing to be saved by the new girl..
I know its an ensemble cast but Clark is the hero...The main hero...
I just hope we get several episodes where Clark needs to save Kara,

I am sure that will happen this season.
I would like to see Oliver and gang show up also.

Even SuperHeros need to be saved.

Clark gets saved by other people way too much.
Chloe, Kara, Lois, I assume Lana and Lex at one time or another..

Lex has saved Clark in the past, even recently.

What is wrong with clark being saved?
he's a hero but he isn't infallible

It's fine once in a while.
But I bet if you added up every time he's been saved by someone else.. it'd be ridiculously high.

This is like the end-all, beat-all problem with Superman. He's either too powerful or not powerful enough, and all it takes to go from one end of the spectrum to the other is a change in the Earth's atmosphere or Kryptonite.
Nevertheless it does make for good storytelling if they write it in an appropriote manner.

you have to compare that to times he's saved other people as a comparison though

I don't have a problem with Clark getting saved by Kara a few times this season. That's what family is for! Martha, Jonathan, and, even Shelby (in her own way) have had their turns at saving Clark (especially from various forms of Kryptonite).

I don't think they will have Kara overshadow Clark in the "saving people" department. I think and hope the producers will do the right thing and give us a fair dose of Clark saving Kara this season though.
I'm hoping the producers give us a fair balance of the following "main hero life-savings" for this season:
Clark saving Chloe (2 times)
Clark saving Kara (4 times)
Clark saving Lana (2 times)
Clark saving Lex (1 time)
Clark saving Lois [without Lois knowing who saved her](2 times)
Clark saving Jimmy [without Jimmy knowing who saved him] (1 time)
Kara saving Clark (2 more times)
Kara saving Jimmy [without Jimmy knowing who saved him (3 more times)
Kara saving Lex (0 times) *His quota is filled with Kara for the season*
Kara saving Chloe (1 time)
That would total 12 more main character saves for Clark and 6 more main character saves for Kara for the rest of the season.
I believe the producers are reversing the roles here too, so to speak.
Clark used to save the women of the show, Chloe and Lana, most of the time. Now, they have Kara sharing the spotlight, saving the men of the show, Lex and Jimmy. *Kara saving Jimmy more than anyone else would be a grat dynamic to build upon*. I think this is a great idea! It also subconsciously preps the main audience to like and validate Kara as a main character/heroine, which will ultimately foster the momentum to produce an Argo City or Kandor-based spin-off show, if Smallville fans like her enough after Season 8 ends. :)

If Kara saves Clark 3 times...he should save Kara like 9 times

"Labyrinth" (Barking/Warnings)
Clark: "Shelby?... Thanks, buddy. You saved my life."
*Peep the edit* I upped Clark saving Kara by 1 more, caseybrn...

Yeah man, shelby dragged clark's ass out of that van filled w/ meteor rocks...I think Smallville should give shelby a destiny, yes, a journey on becoming the legendary super underdog!!

He's either too powerful or not powerful enough...Agreed; this is precisely the reason why screenwriter Tom Mankiewicz avoided putting him in situations he could solve alone. He even tried talking Christopher Reeve out of "Superman IV", due to the whole eradicate-all-the-warheads story. Additionally, this fact was one reason why the "forbidden to interfere with human history" was in the first film.

Kara/Supergirl HAS saved Clark/Superman before, in the comics the Silver-Age Supergirl sacrificed her life to save Superman
