Was it just me, or was Lex completely pathetic in this episode?
He listened to the recording of his and Lana's last conversation over and over again.
He pressed the gun to his chest and begged Lana to kill him, saying the world would be a better place without him.
He's worse now than he was in S6. This is NOT the Lex Luthor we all know and love.

It is kind of weird.........I'm sure something will snap him out of it. Probably the mystery of the ship.......Or maybe even Kara.

He has to get evil again.. im sure he will. Lana has become a "biyotch"....(apparently it won't let me write what i originally wrote) but its awesome.. Look at her, with her gun and everything.

Was it just me or was Lex's eyes watering the whole time he was onscreen?
Like he was so sorry for all the bad deeds he's done. boo hoo.
Goughglar what have you done to Lex?

Ugh, seriously. I want to see badass Lex, not mopey Lex! Don't we see enough of mopey Clark? I want him to try and take revenge on Lana instead of letting it go and admitting he's become a horrible person! At least that makes for an interesting plotline.

LEX WAS GREAT. He is such a tragic character, I really really feel for him. Everybody he loves has turned on him Everybody. No wonder he becomes the world's greatest villain. At some point a person cracks and there is no going back. I love the way they are setting him up.
I just wanted Lana to die! I know it is not a rational thought. If Lex did those things to me I wouldn't have been happy with him either and probably would have hated him. But I don't want to think rationally about this. I love Lex, and since she is the source of his pain I want her to burn in HELL!!!
When she told him last season he didn't know what love is I wanted to slap her. How dare she? He loves her more than she has loved anyting in her life. She is the one who doesn't know what love is.

I'm getting a little tired of this Lex. I hope he gets back to being evil and badass soon.

I'm glad they're trying to make Lex dynamic, but come on... Obsessive and needy Lex isn't appealing at all. Begging Lana to kill him? So OOC. I understand that he has no one left in his life and obviously he has a legitimate reason to be upset, but I have trouble believing Lex would act like this. Especially after S6, I see him more as wanting revenge.
I agree about Lana though; Lex does know what love is... He just has an odd way of showing it which probably goes back to the way he was raised. Still doesn't give him an excuse to fake her pregnancy so she'd marry him though, if that is indeed what happened. At least that's something Lex would do though.

boo hoo. Lex deserves everything that's coming to him!
He always had a choice. There are a lot of people who had worst childhoods than him who don't turn out to be psychopaths!
Too bad Lionel wasn't in this ep so he could b*tch slap Lex for being such a pathetic idiot!

Oh yeah, hiring a hooker to breakup Clana and then violating Lana's body by drugging her up to make her think she's pregnant and cloning her shows her how much Lex REALLY loves her.
Yeah, that's real LOVE.
I hope you find somebody as loving as Lex!

I hope it's some brilliant ploy to get back at Lana eventually... I have trouble believing Lex would just let this go. He flew all the way to her dismal little apartment in Shanghai just to tell her she's safe and he'll be out of her life forever? Doesn't sound like him at all.

I don't understand why you guys want an evil and only evil character. I like, no I love this heartbreaking background into the future monster we will all love to hate. To me, he is like Darth Vader. His story wouldn't be tragic at all and we wouldn't care half as much about him if he had been an evil bad ass since the begining. It is more tragic when the character not only was good but really tried to fight against his eventual doom and was sabotaged along the way. Lex has no other choice but to turn into the Devil, give him some time, it will only be better once he eventually comes to the end of his journey.

I'm tired of woobie Lex. Smallville has had more eps about Lex's life and psyche than there are about Clark's or any other character. I don't feel sorry for him because everything he does comes back to bite him in the ass. He tries to own and control everything, but he just doesn't grasp that it's not possible.
Guys, it's already been confirmed that Lex's conversion is a RUSE. Stop worrying about what's going to turn him back. He's never changed.
He's probably just playing martyr so the cops will get off his back and he can become the evil badass again.

I agree. I'm sick and tired of woobie Lex too. I'm tired of Lex getting involved in these stupid, nonsense relationships with women who end up betraying him and taking his balls with them.

Actually I would say that Lex betrayed most of the women first.

That's not what I meant. I said I was glad they were trying to make Lex dynamic, I just think they approached it the wrong way. In the early seasons he turned his life around for the better (at least for awhile), which shows us he isn't pure evil. I don't want a character who's only evil. I just don't like the obsessive, needy persona he's taken on. I'd rather them have had him talk to Lana and apologise for making her life miserable and done sort of a "what have I become?" speech rather than a "Kill me Lana, I don't deserve to be alive" one. And the obsessively listening to their last conversation didn't work either.
Also, people don't have to be pure evil to want revenge for being wronged.

Let me quote what you said previously in this thread.
"When she told him last season he didnt know what love is I wanted to slap her. How dare she? He loves her more than she loed anything in her life. She is the one who doesnt know what love is."
From what you said, you definitely sounded like you endorsed how Lex loved Lana. You didnt have a problem with Lex at all and it was Lanas fault for not loving Lex like he deserved.
Am I wrong?

Well, if I remember correctly Helen got involved with Lionel first and then tried to kill him. Then, we have Lana who was going to run away with BDA on their wedding day.

I agree.
Actually Lex stole the vial of blood from Helen's office, and thought she didn't know, but she did.
Though Lana didn't know she was being betrayed, Lex did betray her first.

I'm not saying Lex' love was the best thing for Lana. But his love was real (obsessive and psychotic as it was), she was the one he loved with all that he was, he was only always worried about loosing her. Yes he sowed it the wrong way, but it was how he was taught. She just threw it in his face, she could have accused him of anything else in the world and would have been right but to say that to him? Wow.
Obviously in real life I wouldn't want a boyfriend like that. But when it comes fo fictional characters and their over the top emotions, I am rooting for Lex and feel sorry for him.

I'm hoping he was just playing some elaborate mind game with her because that was the most pathetic speech I've heard from him yet. BizarroClark was right: redemption doesn't suit Lex.

Hmm. So because Lex is 'loving' the way he was taught, it makes it right? Acceptable?

I am confused as to why so many fans of this show do not want to see that sympathetic, compassionate side of Lex, preferring a strictly 100% evil Lex with no humanity whatsoever. They seem to prefer a cliché rather than an interesting, multi-dimensional character. It is that streak of humanity still alive in Lex that makes him such a fascinating character. Severely flawed, yes, but fascinating! To make Lex a classical two-dimensional villain, wringing his hands and laughing as he plans and executes his dastardly deeds would be incredibly predictable and boring.
That would be like Clark always making the perfectly correct and right choice every single time he is confronted with a problem. Mr. Goodie-two-shoes would have become extremely tedious and dull about half way through the first season. It is the fact that we have seen the wrong decisions Clark has made and the repercussions from those decisions that has made his journey so compelling. That glimpse of Clark’s dark side and the evil he is capable of is what makes him an interesting character. Likewise, that occasional glimpse of the good in Lex is what makes him so intriguing.
It is what makes Lex’s story a tragedy of Hellenic proportions, like ‘Oedipus’ or ‘Medea’. To know what good he could have done had he not ventured down the wrong path. And let’s face it Lex could have, in many more realistic aspects, been a greater hero than Clark. Superman may save the occasional individual or even group of individuals from certain disaster, but with his money and power, Lex could have had the ability to improve the lives of millions. But now that will never happen…Quite the contrary, in fact. But it’s the “what-ifs” that make any story worth studying, and in my opinion, any show worth watching. They are what make it relevant to life.

The only person who lex loved was his mother, IMO. Being with Lana was like a big game to Lex. Especially in the way he played it off with Clark.

His love can't be real if he was capable of hurting Lana the way he did. And the fact that he could look at her with a straight face when he drugged her to beleive she miscarried, tells me that he loves himself more than he ever did Lana.
His faking the pregnancy and cloning her benefitted HIM and only hurt Lana.
That's not love, that's wanting to possess her. And the fact that he boasted to Clark every chance he got that he was with Lana now, proved that point further.
Lex deserved everything Lana told him and more. I didn't think she was harsh enough.
