Did anyone besides me really almost believe Lex when he was talking about lana. the tears in his eyes were really sad. when he was talking about the "angel" I was also really moved. Michael owned this episode.

I have no doubt that Lex loves Lana. Doesn't make him a good person.

Or a bad one, for that matter. Lex has always been a conflicted character, and I think that's what makes him interesting.

He also tried to take out Bizarro instead of really making an alliance with him. He turned himself in to the police.

But he also wants to keep the Phantom project going.

I totally believed him. I loved him in this episode, he was so lost and tragic. And I thought it was so sad that he still wanted to be Clark's friend. Poor Lex, things are not going well for him.

Lex was sincere, but it won't last.......He's too selfish and soon enough, it will be all about him again. As for how he acted about Lana's death, glad to see one male cared.......*cough* Clark *cough*.

Honestly and let me play devils advocate... if clark would have just been honest with lex, then I think lex would have turned out to be one of the good guys. It is clarks fault where lex is at now.

Clark is to blame for evil lex.

He sincerely loves Lana, and he didn't kill her obviously. He did try to stop Bizzaro . . . but probably had ulterior motives behind doing it . . . if he takes out Bizzaro, he can use him to perfect his super army

I felt so bad for Lex in this episode, especially him twirling his ring and looking at his picture with Lana:(

Lex is very capable of twisting what he says. Some of the stuff sounded sincere but his actions speak louder than words. He always seems regretful and sorry, but then he just does somehing else that is wrong., so his words mean nothing most of the time

You know, in many ways I agree. But I think Lionel's the main catalyst, and ultimately, it was Lex's choice to be a good man, and he made the choice of not following through. He could've had a Lana that loved him, a Clark that was still his best friend, and he probably should've just learned from Lana's death in "Lexmas" that he CAN be a good man AND hold on to his riches so that IF something like that were to happen, he'd have the money to help Lana, and to help the world.

But instead, he decided that power is the only way to hold on to all that money. I think he knew the right path deep down, but was just scared.

Anyway, I loved how Lex's character was in this episode. It was like we got a small glimpse of the Lex who was around in seasons 1-3 for a moment. And my favorite part where Lex was concerned was that he didn't betray Clark. I really thought maybe he'd just do it all ready and cross that point of no return, but I'm glad that he still cares for Clark.

That'll make things that much more tragic when he returns to evil and becomes even worse than we'd ever imagined.

I felt a little bad, until I started wishing the prison guards beat on him a little bit or the prisoners talked about 'putting a hit on him.' Be almost funny if Luthor met people like the Joker or the Penguin in jail!:rotfl:

I hope Rosenbaum stays if there's a season 8, it's not Smallville without him.

I also miss the old gag reels, how come the Smallville DVDs don't have the gag reels anymore? I want to see if Rosenbaum pulled anymore set jokes as Gagman?

"I hope Rosenbaum stays if there's a season 8, it's not Smallville without him."

Agreed. I don't want the show to go on if Lex Luthor isn't in it, actually. The whole show has been about the development of these two forces, one for good, one for evil. It needs to end with them both, you know? And I think that the show could really go out with a bang if it keeps going this season the way "Bizarro" was-filled with action and character development and great writing.

LOL. I miss that too. Why'd they stop doing that? There's so many moments when my mom and I are watching the show and say, "I bet Michael had fun with that," or "I bet they had a lot of bloopers here," but we never get a chance to see it anymore. :(

The other day I had a friend of mine try to tell me Lex was evil because he didn't care about anything but himself.

I tried to tell him Lex was evil because he believed he was doing the right thing by doing the wrong thing. I think deep down, Lex is a good person, just seen too much that he can construe as bad.

And I'm not just saying this about Smallville's Lex, but let's use him as an example.

Nam-Ek and Aethyr came from Krypton. He knows about Zod inhabiting him. Braniac is from Krypton. What is he to think when Superman shows up? Lex finds out he's from Krypton, and he's putting on his tin foil hat and hiding in his bomb shelter.

Ok, bad analogy, but hear me out. Lex makes an army of super-soldiers to defend against aliens. Clark is an alien. Wouldn't it seem prudent that Lex is wary of him and sees his good deeds as a wolf in sheep's clothing?
