I think dressing her in that outfit worked. When we first see the crowd of people in China from a distance, she practically JUMPS off the screen. What better way to say "Lana Lives!"

However, I believe the choice of the blonde wig was meant to convey a double meaning to the episode. The wig was meant as a disguise worn by the character from the storyline perspective but the color of the wig was intended to put a spotlight on the character appearance for the season premier. (And yes, I major in humanities studies therefore symbolism is my thing...)

With regards to the character of Lana, I thought her storyline in the last season was very interesting. I hope all the characters will continue to add to the show, Lana included.

Female fans hate Lana because she is beautiful. :confused: How did you come to that conclusion? I know plenty of male Smallville fans that aren't fans of Lana because of how the character is developed. The reason Lana wore a blonde wig is plain and simple: so we know it's a disguise.

For the people who hadn't read the spoilers all summer, if Lana was in China with all her normal clothes and normal hair, they would be like .."Why the hell is Lana in China?"

But since she was in that red dress with the blonde wig, we know "Ooh, she was in disguise!"

She didn't have the wig to help her blend in. She had it for the viewers to know she was in disguise.

The blonde wig did work pretty well considering it is a pretty trendy thing for the chinese to do (going blonde). Now here is something to remember, she did this to continue the Lana storyline, but to get out of her forced marriage with Lex. Clark doesn't need to find out, and he frankly does not look too upset in the premiere to be reminded of her death. He was a lot more distraught when he heard about Chloe. By the way, this will probably make way for the Lois Lane angle, as she now has been hit on by Bizarro Clark, and they have had several other encounters in the past which will probably lead to her eventual attraction to Smallville Clark before falling in love with future superman and forgetting her atrraction to Metropolis Clark until much later. Okay that was a lot. But now that Lana is temporarily out of the picture, Clark will work a lot harder to see his destiny fullfilled, while at the same time harvesting a hatred for Lex, which may never heal even if Lana does return by the end of the season, which is when I personally believe she will return.

Oh another thing about Lana assumeing another identity again and Chloe "dying" again. I have a theory for all those interested. This is season 7, is it possible that the series will conclude on 8? Think about the preoducers reinvention of the Superman, family symbol. It wasn't an S inside of a pentagonal daimond, it was an 8. So wouldn't it be cool if the DVD and general season 8 was concluded with :

p.s. Actually, there were 2 cool legitamte moments that I now remember she's had. They both failed,but that's not the point.....she took charge and tried.....even with it being a situation over her head (which.....as much as it pains me to admit....made me admire the character for an instant).....when she tried to stop the 2 Kryptonians in Season 4, and when she also tried to Stop Lex/Zod in season 5. The first situation did seem a bit too contrived though......but the Lex/Zod assassination attempt was Excellent. And the moment before Lex slapped her off of him.....she looked incrediably hot. (if you can believe that one......but it's one of the few scenes that I have ever thought this).......but WAIT, I just remembered.....when she saved Lex who was in the vault and had been shot......although she didn't really save him.....just lucky that Clark came along.....but I admired the fact that she risked her life to try. But who's kidding who.....they flip flop so much with her that she's still annoying overall......at times she's goes even beyond annoying.

But other than that.......she always needs help.......especially financial help.

There was a spoiler on TVGuide.com that said Lana would take a page from Sydney Bristow's spy manual. I figured that referred to when Syd borrowed Will's sister's passport to get out of the country, and had to wear a red wig to match the passport photo. If Lana has borrowed Chloe's passport, she would need a blonde wig.

Do you have a passport? Mine has black wavy lines, red stars and an iridescent eagle over my picture, to prevent tampering or forging. It would be really hard to identify me from that picture!

If this had been pre-911 then it may have worked but with the 911 crisis I would say she would most certainly never make it out pretending to be Chloe

I can't believe some people are actually defending that look. Let's put aside all of our animosity or love for Lana Lang and look at this objectively. It was a horrible choice of "disguise". The worst disguise of all times. Any intelligent person who wanted to hide would have woren something less eye catching. I have nothing against blond hair on Lana, but why did it have to be bleach blond? She could have worn a sandy blond wig, a dark sweather, something baggy to hide her body so nobody would look at her. Or hell, if they wanted to make the symbolic statement "Hey look I'm still alive biatches!" They could have put her in a nice natural looking red wig and nice dark formfitting clothing, that still made a statement but at the same time would have portrayed her as intelligent and cunning for outsmarting the Luthors, and they would have done a shout out to the mythos Lana.

But no. She looked foolish. Period. Totally ridiculous.

I actually do like Kristin K, and I did like the Lana character up till the writers lost sight of who or what the character is or was supposed to be
Now it seems they are only writing Lana for a tween, young teen or soap opera crowd.
The character of Lana (as well as the actress KK) deserve better than what she has had handed to her since around season three.
The wig thing (to me) seemed like a slap to the character.

Why would security be scrutinizing the passport of an American on the way out of the country? It's people coming in that they are worried about. And China isn't worried about 911 security problems.

The thing is, passports are good for 10 years, so customs people are used to people not looking exactly the same. Especially women, who change their hair (and makeup) constantly, and are more likely to have had "a little work done" plastic surgery-wise.

Symbolic meaning it was a statement. Lana is alive and in hiding. That's what that getup meant. We're probably never going to see her wearing that outfit again.
