Becuase it was said as he was landed, I think it was also just for plot. Anything else is just one of those unaswered plothole land questions.

lol.. yeah. i'm sorry about that but think about it. it can be a good excuse for not having nathan die.

nathan and angela petrelli had an arguement after claire jumped off the window, then angela tell nathan that he nathan can do what peter can do that is having other heroes' power. nathan discover the super hearing power while trying to find peter.

maybe both him and peter will regenerate after the explosion.

Also, did you guys hear what Nathan said? You save the cheerleader, so we could save the world. Maybe after Nathan know that he can absorb power, (and after the lecture that Claire gave to him), he decided it's best if he fly Peter up in the sky so Peter won't have to kill millions.
