What if Lionel really is on Lex's side, and cares too much about Martha, enough to ship her off to Washington, away from all the danger?

I'd bet the Kent home, the back 40, the cows, the horses and the whole works that Lionel IS a good guy all along. Though maybe not a conventional one.

I wonder if O'Toole is the one who is leaving next season. They seem to have set up her leaving, perhaps returning from time to time as a guest star.

If he was such a good guy why did he try to have Chloe killed a few seasons back?

Could be. They do have it tied-up with a nice little bow. I don't think that Lionel cares about Martha as much as we all like to think he does (or hope he doesn't whichever) I think that Lionel will try to use Martha's new position (lol...sorry) for his own gain and that he's just also getting her out of town so Clark won't have her any more - he'll be alone - and he'll need to start trusting himself. Now while this is good for us - I don't think Lionel's doing it for Clark's benefit.

I meant a good guy since... anytime after Transference.
"Something inside me has changed." And he was definitely not talking about his lungs or his ribcage.

I think Lionel isnt all good and he is trying to get Clark alone. His dad is gone so now mom needs to go bye bye.
I wish he knew more of his motives.

No, Lionel is just thinking about the budget and if he has to be written out next week (pure speculation on my part), Martha better be reduced to special guest appearances as well.
It seems certain Martha Kent will be on very few if any episodes in season 7.
Yep, Martha's the one leaving for season 7....
bummer.

And we need to know this in a non-spoiler thread, because?
The problem with all these spoilers is that so many of you are so
"into" the real life decisions of the cast and crew outside the episodes, that this information leaks out all the time.
Yay I know about Bizarro, because several threads in the last few episode forums keep bringing it up. Good job Jimmy isn't coming back. Looks like someone's going to die next episode, too. Thank goodness I have sooo many people telling me all these things weeks in advance, with the information they gleaned from inside sources that obviously belong in a spoiler forum, but can't resist putting it all over the place in each episode forum, where so many of us want to talk about the present and past.
So yeah, bummer that Annette O'Tool isn't returning for season 7. It's something I would have rather heard elsewhere, had I so chose. But here, I can't avoid it. Sigh.

I get the impression people in this thread are speculating about the future of characters. It's what they do when they talk about a show. See the characters actions in the episode and think about what exciting thing is going to happen next.
