Title: Muffin and Luffy.
Rating: PG. G maybe.
Summery: It's really more a short story then anything else. I know there's a good chance the mods will delete this thread (not for a few days hopefully) but a friend thought I could post it. It's about a girl and her bat. You know, the flying foxes.
here goes;
Muffin and Luffy
A tale of a girl and her bat.
Muffin was six when she first told her parents about Luffy. They looked at her and told her she was being silly, that Luffy couldn’t be in her bedroom. Yet Muffin continued telling them that Luffy was flying around her room, and she wanted them to watch him fly through a hoop that she had found. Her parents finally gave in and went with her up to her room.
In her room, she ran over next to her bed and picked up a small hoop she had found outside. It looked plastic, but might have been some kind of metal, like iron. It was about seven inches in diameter, and was colored orange.
“Watch!” She said proudly, holding the hoop up over her head shutting her eyes tight.
Nothing happened for a minute, but then suddenly a small figure swooped down, seeming out of no where. It flew straight through the hoop, and after Muffin shrieked and giggled in glee, she looked around for her parents. They had both jumped back close to the door, looking up in terror.
“Did you see? Did you see?” Muffin asked as her mother jumped forward and scooped her up.
“Oh, we saw alright.” She replied as she and Muffins father ran out of the room.
The next day, Muffins parents removed Luffy from her room. “Where is he?” Muffin asked before going to bed. “Don’t worry sweetie, he won’t come back.” Her mother told her as she was tucked in. “But I want to see Luffy, he’s my best friend.” She said, crossing her arms and sticking her lower lip out in a pout. “There, there sweetie.” Her mother cooed. “Luffy shouldn’t have been in here in the first place. He much happier where he is now, I’m sure.” It took another five minutes before Muffin went to sleep.
Later that night, her parents woke up to hear giggling. They went to Muffin’s room, and found her sitting up in bed. “Mommy! Daddy! Luffy came back!” She cried out smiling, and once again held up a hoop. Once again, the same small figure as before swooped down and went straight through the hoop. Muffin was delighted, but her parents were...most defiantly not thrilled, to say the least.
“I thought you took care of that creature!” Her father yelled into the phone that day. Muffin, hiding behind her father’s work room, listened to her father yell into the phone for a few minutes, learning Luffy had escaped, and her father was going to arrange for Luffy to be put away for good.
“I’ve got to hide him and not tell anyone.” She told herself, and started looking for good places her friend could hide.
That night a man came over with a really big net. Her parents asked her where Luffy was. “Oh, he’s not here any more.” She lied, crossing her fingers behind her back. “He went away around lunchtime. I don’t think he’ll ever come back.” The man left after a confused talk with her parents.
The next time Luffy came up was when she was ten. She antecedently let it slip that none of the birds her teacher had showed her in class where as interesting as Luffy.
Her father spat out his afternoon tea. “I didn’t think you remembered him.” he sputtered. “Oh, just vaguely.” She replied, crossing her fingers.
Years went by. Her parents worried about her, for she had little to no friends, and took long bike rides. But Muffin was fine according to her, she was content. She only wished she could bring Luffy out more, and let people see him fly through the orange hoop she had. But she knew she never could.
She worked hard as the years went by, only taking Luffy out when her parents thought she was at the park walking. Talking to no one if she could help it, sitting in the back of the class staring out her window thinking about how someone would figure out she still had Luffy.
Late in her first year of high school, a girl named Tammi Valdez arrived. For some reason, Tammi seemed to enjoy Muffins company, and at school Muffin could hardly shake her off. Unwilling to make friends again in case they found out about Luffy, Muffin tried avoiding Tammi too, but it was impossible, the girl was determined to know why Muffin sat at the back of the class looking out the window in almost every class.
“Come on, tell me!” she demanded as she cornered Muffin one day in the hall.
“No, I can’t!” she told her, and nearly ran to her next class. Even though she thought she would have liked Tammi if it wasn’t for keeping Luffy safe.
Tammi refused to give up, and one day fallowed Muffin after school, where she saw her playing with Luffy in hidden park a mile off. “Wow.” She Said. She didn’t let Muffin see her, but at school the next day she confronted her.
“I know about your pet.” She said to Muffin at her locker. “He was cute, can I pet him?” At first Muffin was scared Tammi would tell, and slightly shamed she had been caught so simply, but after talking her out of hiding Luffy away in a box, Tammi got Muffin to agree to show her Luffy right after school.
“I didn’t see you much today.” Muffin shyly commented as they walked together after school. Tammi shrugged. “I didn’t want to, uh, impose on you.” She said smirking. They laughed the rest of the way to the park.
“You know, he is a wild animal, you should let him go.” Tammi told Muffin as they watched Luffy fly through the air.
Muffin looked at her curiously. She held up her arm, and Luffy landed on it. She then thrust it to the air, shaking Luffy off. Luffy flew in circles for a bit, then departed over the tree tops.
Tammi stared up in silence. “I didn’t mean right now!” She yelled, raising her hand over her eyes looking for Luffy.
Muffin looked at the trees he had flown over. “It’s ok.” She said slowly. “It’s okay. He’ll come back.” She looked down at her feet smiling. “I tried so hard to keep him a secret, and cared so much, so one day, he’ll come back.” She looked back up. “One day.”
They all lived happily ever after. Except for the man in paragraph ten. He didn’t do so well.
The After Flap.
What happened to everybody;
Muffin: She did great. She became a well paid chief. She married a cut guy name Daren.
Luffy: He came back.
Muffin’s Parents; Well, they were fine with Luffy; they were just scared she’d get bitten when she was young. They didn’t learn about him again intil after Muffin’s collage.
