In Lex's mind, I think he believes that he was a good friend to Clark and in some ways, he certainly was. BUt as you've pointed out, the snooping around about Clark ruined their friendship.

Yep - and part of that is because of what he told Clark: you're the only friend I've ever had Clark - sort of implying that he had no real basis for judging how he should treat a friend. I almost felt sorry for Lex when he said that.

It's Guy Love! That's all it is! Yeah, it's nice to have them interacting for more than 2 lines as Lex comes to pick up Lana after she "bumps" into Clark...they have a great dynamic whether they are joking around or arguing.
