The cheerleader has been saved about six times already by various people. I think one of those may qualify. Off the top of my head Peter, Matt, HRG, and the Hatian have all saved her at one point or another.

I think the only reson she needed saving was because Sylar would steal her power and be unstoppable.

So until Sylar is dead I don't think the world (or the cheerleader) is fully saved.

I personally think that "Company Man" showed why saving the cheerleader was so important.

Peter, isn't able to control his powers at first.... when he is first exposed to Ted's abilities... he's not going to be able to handle iet... that is what I feel sets off the 'bomb' in question... and claire is the only one able to get close enough to him to tranquilize him to prevent him from going nuclear.

Though, I do feel that the ultimate confrontation will be between peter and sylar.. given that they are so similar... and every power that sylar takes... when peter is exposed to it.. he can do it too.

i dont think the exploding man is peter i think its sylar... because no matter what would happen to peter ie he gets shot he heals he doesnt go into that exploding mode.. but if sylar has it since every1 is against him he might go into a mode like that

the thing is, that "Company Man" showed us that Ted doesn't actually explode... not flying bits of human being.... He gives off a radiation blast equivalent to a nuclear bomb exploding.

And peter has been shown to not be able to control the powers completely at first exposure. Hopefully, the training he had with the 'invisible man' will help correct that... but we'll only know for certain when he's exposed to it.

But, you are correct... if Sylar got to Ted... Sylar would almost definitely be the more likely candidate for the 'exploding man'. (Even though Isaac and others have said that the exploding man in his painting is peter.) *They have lied to us before.*

the 'lie' I mentioned was the fact that they have changed who they tagged as 'the face of evil.'

Quite simply, they threw that tag around within the first few weeks like it was 'air'... and didn't matter.. first it was Mr. Bennet (H.R.G.) then it was Sylar. I consider it to have been a major bait & switch to go from what we knew about him then.. to what we know now.

*To me, the face of evil is the primary villian of the show... Bennet wasn't ever the primary villian.. he just was willing to do anything to keep his daughter off the company radar.*

and maybe, just maybe... NOTHING can stop that explosion.. or something that claire did after she was saved changed the destiny... maybe she hasn't come to terms with her own destiny.. and 'runs away' at the last moment when she could have saved everyone.

Many people seem to believe that "save the cheerleader, save the world" means that by saving Claire, she'll be vital to saving the world later on. However, my theory is different.

I believe "save the cheerleader, save the world" means that Peter had to save Claire from Sylar so that Peter could gain her powers and Sylar couldn't. That way, Peter would be indestructable, and he'd become the only one able to save the world (of course, this is assuming that "saving the world" is dealing with something bigger than just an exploding man).

the reason that i think is that by warning peter 2 `save the cheerleader`he went 2 texas,absorbed nathan ,claire ,sylar,matt and possibly edens and the haitians powers and went comatose.he had the vision of seeing himself blow up new york(not realizing that by being an emapth, he was looking through the eyes of someone else)and now he has a chance 2 stop it.peter`s the main guy involved here.not sylar or claire or even hiro,they play a key role,but peter was meant 2 save the world
