Title: Me-Nikki, Myself-Jessica, and Peter. Confusing.
Author: Ireallylikethisshow (MOI)
Pairing: Nikki/Peter, and Nikki/Nathan is brought up.
Rating: PG-13.
Summary: A different change to "Fallout". Peter isn't released out of prison quite so quickly and runs into Nikki. (Yes, I know, different prisons... pretend that's different.) and they quickly bond and become friends. And then, eventually... more.

ENJOY! :D

Chapter 1- “Meeting”

The handcuffs made a quick snap as they wrapped around his wrist. One of the policeman used extra force to put him into a jail cell. “Accidentally” pushing him to the ground and letting him slide and hit the brick wall.

Peter fell on his side, and looked up at the angry policemen. They both gave him death glares.

“I DIDN’T KILL HER!” he shouted. They shut the door, and walked off. Peter moved his back up, and leaned against the grimy walls of prison. It was just a square box that sealed him in. There was a tiny window, but it was unreachable… it had several shiny bars and touched the ceiling. It let out a soft glow of white light.

Aren’t they supposed to take off the handcuffs? Vengeful cops…

What was he going to do? He blinked, eyes adjusting. There wasn’t another person with powers around, none that he could absorb. Nothing that would let him out of this. And, now he had the death of a young girl on his name. He would be a fugitive. In a week they’d probably have him right back here.

He was counting on Nathan. And, he didn’t want to count on Nathan.

Through the thick, tangible air of the prison, a small sob was heard. He tilted his head, and saw that from across his cell was a blonde woman. She was crying into her knees, and rocking back and forth. Peter felt a ping of concern, but suddenly pushed it aside. Whoever she was, she was a murder. Unless she’s innocent. Like me

He slowly got up, trying to remain in balance without the use of his hands. He walked up to the cell door. He estimated that her cell was a few feet away, enough to communicate.

“Are you okay?” he asked softly. She looked up, and promptly ignored him. Suddenly her demeanor changed, and she stood up and gazed at him with hatred. He shuddered, and regretted trying to help. She is a murder!

“What’s it to you?” she asked icily.

“Oh- nothing…” he stammered. She folded her arms and scrutinized him; he noticed a hint of something behind this tough exterior. How had she gone from crying one minute, to challenging him the next? Well. It is prison… he concluded.

“Who are you?”

“Peter… Petrelli…”

She looked away, and returned to her bed. “Figures.”

“What? Do you know my brother?”

“GUARD!” she called. Peter looked at her stunned, and saw a guard come by. He looked from her to the other. He smirked.

“Yes, Sanders?”

“This prisoner keeps trying to hassle me.” She complained. Peter’s eyes widened. WHAT? he glared at her.

“Oh shut up, Nikki. Like a care.” The guard said, then moved his sleeve back and showed a bit string of bruises.

Then he smirked again, “Or are you Jessica?” It was a direct taunt.

“I am.” She continued, “Perhaps you should be a bit more… careful…”

The guard looked a bit frightened and hurried out the door.

Peter turned away from Nikki, or Jessica, or whoever the crazy lunatic thought she was, and lay down on his own bed. He moved his legs to stretch and gazed up at the boring ceiling. How did she know his brother? Peter wondered when his brother would come and bring his lawyers.

Suddenly more crying caught him off guard. What the… he looked up and saw her crying again. Did she have a mental disorder or something?

“Please… do you know if your brother is coming?” she asked, desperately. Peter looked at her, she had changed completely. Maybe she have a multiple personality disorder.

“First. Tell me how you know him?” he asked.

She stood up and leaned against the cell door.

“I meet him in Las Vegas. I bumped into him in the lobby… and we talked for awhile… and things… just went… well. I guess. We’re not very close though. It’s stupid of me, but I’m sort of hoping he’ll help me.”

Peter walked over to his cell door and gave her a smile. It was a warm one that just slipped.

“I don’t know if he’ll help me either. I wish I could tell you.”

There was a long pause; the girl seemed to be debating something- or possibly someone in her mind. Weird expressions crossed her face. Then one of hopelessness.

“I’m stupid for asking,” she said, with a deep sadness. Then she turned around and faced her own cell wall. Peter took a deep breath. The rumors about the blonde girl from Las Vegas filled his thoughts.

Chapter 2- “Friends?”
Nikki was alone. Somehow, ever since DL had left, she had become this hallow shell. One that just kept walking, and hoping everything would end up well. Now hope was gone. DL was cleared of his charges and he could watch after Micah. But Micah was all she had. The one thing she fought for, and he was her heart.

More tears slid down. STOP CRYING. Stop being weak! exclaimed Jessica. She shook her head with remorse, and looked at the kind prisoner. He had a nice face, and black hair. He gave her a warm smile.

“I don’t know if he’ll help me either. I wish I could tell you.” He told her. She had always hoped someone would try and help her. And maybe he was this person. She was unsure. You have to help yourself, Nikki. She yelled back at Jessica in her thoughts: Yes! Because the stripping was just for my own amusement- right? I AM DOING MY BEST. I did your best. You NEVER do.

She felt all her hope drain from her, she can’t just rely on some stranger or his brother.

“I’m stupid for asking,” she told Peter. The weight of the situation crumbled onto her. She heard him take a sharp breath and could see him thinking about something.

“Do you believe in forgiveness?” he asked, out of the blue.

“Part of me does.” Yes, her part. Jessica wasn’t so good with the forgiveness.

“Well, um, what if it’s family?” She turned around to face him. He was asking her normally, but with some struggle. Jessica thought he looked cute when he struggled. He gave a nervous little smile. She smiled happily; it’d been forever since she had just thought a guy was cute. DL was sexy, but not cute. Oh, and you can bet the boys who paid her cash online weren’t great at just being ‘cute’.

“Does this involve your brother?” she asked, relaxing a bit. Talking about him would be a nice change from talking to Jessica.

“Well, yeah. He doesn’t believe anything I say… and he just- I have to take all these hits for him. You know? I can’t trust him, and for some reason I always have to suffer his faults.”

“God. I’m there with you.” She said, remembering all the things Jessica did.

He laughed, and fumbled with his handcuffs.

“Even though you don’t want to, right? You get dragged into it.”

“Exactly! And, you can’t get away from it either.” He smiled and shook his head.

“Guess not.”

“It all remains just the same.” She continued, “Even when the bruise heals.”

“My brother always undermines me too. I feel like I have a future out there. To help- or do something… it may sound conceited I guess…”

“No! If you have that feeling, that’s good.” Nikki encouraged. He beamed at this, no one had ever told him anything like that before.

“I just wish I could feel that way too.” Nikki added. He looked at her sadly, and replied,

“I bet you have a bigger future then you give yourself credit.” The news made her happy though, no one had ever told her anything like that before. This was the first time she’d been happy in a long-long time.

“You hardly know me.”

He nodded, “I just… it feels like you will.”

They both smiled at each other.

“Odd that the only person who’s ever said that to me… happens to say it while we’re in prison. What do you do?”

“I’m a nurse… you?”

Pause. So how do you tell a guy you’re an internet porn star?

“Let’s just say, it’s a secret.” She decided. He looked at her quizzically.

“You’re quite secretive. Just, could you warn me if Jessica shows up again?” he asked.

Nikki froze and looked down. Oh great.

“You’ll know when she’s here.” She replied to him.

And so it begin.

Chapter 2

Peter and Nikki leaned against their jail cell bars and talked and talked for hours. Mostly about the things they loved. Peter discussed his nurse job, and Nikki discussed her son Micah. At first she was worried to tell him, most men found the fact that she was a mother as an unappealing trait. Peter, on the other hand, smiled widely and his eyes seem to light up.

“I’ve always wanted a little brother, or a son. Your very lucky.” He told her, as he noticed that it was only them in the hallway.

Who knew one his best conversations would be in prison?

“He’s so smart too! There’s no way he could have gotten it from me.” Nikki responded, with a self-conscious tone. For some weird reason, Jessica was relaxed and keenly listening.

He’s absolutely adorable! Jessica added out of the blue. Nikki couldn’t possibly imagining someone so crazy and violent having feelings for anyone.

“Your smarter then you credit yourself, I’m sure.” Peter knew what it was like to be a shadow in someone else’s dream. Nikki seemed smart to him anyway, someone must have did a number on her. Why did the world have to undermine people like him and Nikki?

Nikki’s normal expression became a beam. It lit up like a light bulb, and caused Peter to smile widely in response. The two together, were like happy euphoric little children. Nikki slid a finger on the bar, and wiped off a speck of dust. Nasty jail cells. The scent of the place was like sitting in a landfill.

“How do you know my brother?” he asked again. This time he wanted an answer.

Nikki struggled to respond, and then stated simply, “We had a thing.”

Of course he did, because of course Nathan would cheat on his wife. He was the one who caused her condition, and treated her unfairly because of it….

“Do you still like him?” he asked, and then added quickly, “He’s married…”

A tear slid down Nikki’s face, and she nodded sadly.

“I am too.” Her face filled with that sorrow he saw before. Was his brother on some kind of vendetta to ruin everyone’s lives? Well, he was doing a good job at it!

“Is your husband going to come bail you out?”

“I asked him not too… I need to stay here. I should stop trying to get a way out.”

“You want to stay here! Are you crazy?” he asked.

Jessica/Nikki twisted away, and suddenly her demeanor formed into it’s earlier one. Nikki or Jessica walked back to their bed.

“You’re a lot cuter then your brother.” she said, with a flirty new attitude.

Peter stared at the confusing girl cluelessly. You talk to someone for three hours and get to know them, and then they become a completely different person with a new attitude, but he blushed at the compliment anyway.

Stop wanting her to like you! She’s taken![I]

He shook the idea out of his mind, it was crazy anyway. It wasn’t at all reasonable for him to have a crush on some girl from prison that was crazy at one moment and perfectly wonderful the next, who was married and had an affair with your brother!

[I]This is all ridiculous!

Stop it! Go away Jessica! I don’t need you verbally confusing Peter! Nikki ordered. Jessica shook her head, and the smirk could be felt appearing on their face. Quickly, she jumped off the bed and defied her sister with a sense of purpose.

Peter watched, but remained in his spot on the floor.

What are you going to do now? Kill him!?
Kill the adorable boy? No! Just gonna have some fun with him.

“Are you taken?” she asked, with a flirty smile.

“No.” Peter then realized his fault and stammered, “Yes! Yes I mean.”

She moved as close as her jail cell and his would allow, which is really not that close at all. Slightly frustrated by this, Jessica wondered how to flirt with a boy when your surrounded by metal bars. She could always break them… but that would scare adorable boy away.

Why do you have to call him that? AND! Stop this now Jessica! We’re married. To DL. Remember?” Jessica was tugging at every well known weakness that Jessica had. There weren’t many, and Jessica wasn’t going to let her take over just yet.

I wish I could, but I don’t remember any DL. Maybe because he wasn’t there long enough.

Considering you’re the one who put him in prison…

You and I can do better. And we will. Jessica ended the argument on that note, and felt content to continue her flirting with the adorable boy.

“Who’s this girl?”

Peter raised his eyebrows at her new voice; it wasn’t really the same as before. Perhaps the new Jessica was also more expressive and… in words Peter would never use… ‘fiesty’.

“Simone.”

“I already can tell she’s not for you.”

“You don’t know her.” He defended.

“I don’t think I want to either, in case you change your mind…”

The door to the hallway opened, and two policemen came walking in. Behind them was Nathan Petrelli. Jessica quieted and watched him with hateful eyes.

The first policeman to reach the door pulled it open and released Peter from his cell.

“Peter!” Nathan greeted with a worried tone, he gave his little brother a pat on the back and smiled. He didn’t even care to look at the girl in the cell across who was glaring at him angrily.

“Are you going to take these cuffs off my little brother?” Nathan demanded from the policeman.

“Not yet!” he replied with a bit of an edge. Peter walked over to Nikki/Jessica’s cell and gave her a smile.

“It’s been nice meeting you.”

Nathan turned his head and instantly recognized her, and obviously she him. Jessica gave Pete a kinder smile, one she never used, and slipped a piece of paper into his handcuffed palms.

“That’s my number, Peter.”

He smiled at her and replied, “I’ll try to keep in touch.”

The policeman gave him a shove, and the three headed towards the door. Just before leaving, Peter turned around again and to reassure his new friend:

“I will!”

“You better!”

He smiled at her like he did before her change, and then was tugged out from the cell. Nikki/Jessica smiled to them selves and felt that for the very first time, they were truly swept off their feet.

I want to see him again. Don’t you?

Yes. I really do, Jessica. Jessica released Nikki, and let her have control again. Nikki took a seat on the grime-covered bench and let out a heavy sigh. Back to the lonely cell, back to the conversations with her deranged counter half.

“I really do.” She repeated to herself one last time.

Thank you everyone! :)

Author's Note

I hadn't written in awhile, so I went ahead a bit... hope that's not annoying.

And I wanted to have Nikki address her issues with Jessica, they don't discuss that enough on the show IMO. I don't think Nikki even knows Jessica is her sister... (they do have the same name)

I sort of wanted a little bonding moment.

Enjoy.

P.S. What do we call this ship? Pessica/Pikki? Niketer/Jessiceter? or N/J/P lol.
---------------------------------------------
Chapter 3

“Everywhere you go, people die,” DL begin, “Cash, cars, hurting people for the fun of it – hell, you didn’t even turn into Jessica. You turned into your old man!”

“Don’t you dare-”

“I’ll die before I let you do to Micah what he did to you.”

Oh, if only you knew DL… if only you knew the HALF of it. (Had thought Jessica)

Now everything was completely ruined, and neither side of her seemed too chatty. A passing car flooded her hearing and a reminded her that she was sitting in a telephone booth somewhere in Las Vegas. It’d been a week since she lost Micah, and slowly her shared heart was breaking apart. Never had either side of her felt so alone. Jessica was a faint breath that had crumbled into hiding. Nikki had tried to coax her big sister back out but it was an impossible feat.

Please Jessica, I need you…

It was a silent plea from Nikki, and so unexpected. Everything had changed though, and drastic measures like this- they were understandable, right? Was it so weird that’d she’d want her sister back? Family is family, and now she had no family left. Not in Jessica, DL or Micah.

I need you to get Micah!
I thought I was protecting you...
Stop whining Jessica and help me get Micah!
This whole time, I’ve just been dad… to you… but worse.
Dad?
He used to beat you, Nikki.

Nikki sighed, wondering why SHE couldn’t remember this.

Dad never beat me. He just wasn’t there often.
I took the punches! That’s why you can’t remember.
What?
That’s what DL meant.
We messed up.
No. I messed up… I messed up my little sister’s life, trying to protect you.

Jessica retreated deeper from Nikki’s grasp, and left her feeling entirely empty. It was what she had wanted before, but not now.

Jessica…

She thought it to herself though, a soft echo in her mind. Of the comforting big sister she had growing up, the one that used to brush her hair and hug her when nightmares occurred, the big sister that cooked dinner for her and made up excuses about why Dad wasn’t there.

Before the homicidal era.

Nikki stood up and let the awful air of Vegas fill her lungs up, there was no way she could take down Linderman… she wasn’t super-charged like her sister and not a smart brainac. Nikki couldn’t walk through walls, or morph into looking like others.

So what could she do?

Absolutely nothing.

Her fingers lingered on a small scrap of paper in her pocket, that of a sweet ‘adorable boy’ from jail. Not in a million years. she chided herself.

What in her thought she could rely on him THAT much? She needed to do this on her own, didn’t she?

But I can’t. I’m powerless.

There was a phone booth right there though and a number in her hand.

“I hate relying on others.” She mumbled to herself.

I’m making a promise. I’m not going to rely on anyone else after this.
I’ll hold you to that.

Nikki smiled to herself. Good.

“Who is this…?” asked a sleepy voice from the other side of the phone. It was a soft voice with slight annoyance and confusion. Nikki was a little amused at how ‘tough guy’ his voice sounded, it was a little punky. A nice contrast to the way he spoke. Her own voice was sharper, feminine, and usually emotion-filled unless she was Jessica… then it was unemotional and snarky. This was all just a casual observation.

“My name’s Nikki…” she cringed at how weak she sounded.

“Nikki!” he perked up, the sleepiness drifting off.

He remembered me! that airy feeling filled her again, and gave her hope. Something she hadn’t had in awhile. She wondered what he looked like when he woke up; she bet his hair was messy without his hair gel. Fluffy and light and all over the place. Nikki held back a laugh of relief and joy at his response.

“How did you get out?” he asked.

“That’s sort of… the problem…”

“Problem?”

“Linderman has Micah.”

“Linderman! How did you get involved with Linderman?”

“Peter, I promise I won’t ask anything of you again…”

“I’m coming.”

----------------------------
The car pulled up in front of the casino, and the charmingly sweet ‘adorable boy’ was waiting inside of it.

“Your chauffer is here.” He teased, popping the door open. Nikki smiled gratefully and came in. The car was dark and slim with the ‘new car’ smell.

“Thank you so much.”

“I just have to ask, for caution, where is Jessica?”

“She’s been a little absent lately.”

“Ah…”

----------------------
Somehow the explanation led to crying, and melted Peter’s heart. It was so…

Unfair.

“You’re the blonde from Vegas.”

“Y-yes.”

“Alright then,” he became a bit lighter, “We’re going to get Micah back.”

“How are we going to do that? I have no powers.”

A small smile moved to the corner of Peter’s mouth as he thought of how he’d felt the same way before. If that’s how he had felt, maybe that means things would change for her too. If anything, they had the exact same problem. Control.

“Jessica has powers. So you have powers.” He explained.

“You think I have super strength?” Nikki asked incredulously.

“Don’t you?”

She shook her head, but propped her feet on the cushy little table he had in front of the couch. Peter had the perfect apartment, it was so pretty and clean. Completely different from her tiny house that was perpetually messy. It was the kind of place you’d find a secret chocolate stash and lots of towels.

“I didn’t think I could control my abilities either.”

“You have powers?” Nikki felt relieved yet again, “What are they?”

“I absorb other people’s powers, but I can bring them out any time.”

“Like what powers?”

“Invisibility… telekinesis and flying.”

“You can do it then…”

“Do what?”

“YOU CAN SAVE MICAH!”
