Question: How much longer is the character of Zach going to be on Heroes? When he was mind-wiped and forgot his friendship with Claire, it seemed like a natural opportunity for producers to resolve his story line and rid themselves of a problem actor. So I was disappointed when I tuned in to the Jan. 22 episode and saw actor Isaiah Wash — oops, I mean Thomas Dekker — still under their employ. Is Zach going to officially "come out" as straight on the show, or will his orientation remain a mystery until he leaves for his sure-to-be-canceled Terminator series on Fox?— John

Ausiello: Get this: Monday's episode was Dekker's — and Zach's — last. And let's not be so quick to blame Dekker. As I was recently made aware, his manager was one of several forces conspiring to "straighten up" Zach (one of which is very high up).

Don't know where you found this but I knew Zach had to leave sooner or later. What part could he possibly play? The dormant powers angle would be too cliche.

huh, i always thought he'd just be the no powered side kick, like chloe in smallville.

or at least a recurring occasional character when claire happened to be at school or wanted someone to talk to...

not to mention the question of why he had to be gay or straight anyway...that article said he was supposed to 'come out' in the homecoming episode. does it really matter for the story? i'm sure we all work with gay and lesbian and straight people all day long. unless the story is about that, and so far it hasn't been, why turn it into an issue? i think that character stuff like that about a minor character only detracts from the main issues, i.e. the list, people discovering powers and the prevention of a catastrophe. but that's just my two cents...is that a dumb opinion to other people?

The person asking the question sounds like a real jerk. It wasn't the actor's fault that they "straightened up" his character and the kid did a great job in the scenes he had with Claire. How, exactly, was he a "problem actor"? Are people just that shallow?

so what happened with this? he was in last nights episode too...maybe they realized that there is no way to get anything decent out of the 'claire' character without him for at least a few more episodes.

i agree that his character is neccessary to help claire along. I mean honestly you can't complain about him and not about Ando. They are both neccessary to their hero for different reasons. Zach is needed because Claire doesn't have any one else she can go to. I mean thats a lot to expect of 16 year old or anyone for that matter to go through by themselves. I say keep Zach for as long as claire needs him

what i heard was that he was originally intended to to be gay and written off the show fairly early, but the actor had such good chemistry with claire that they decided to keep him around as a love interest and make one of the other leads gay.

The whole him being gay aspect think was just to promote homosexual lifestyles in my opinion. It had no tie in to the plot. The creator clearly either backs gay mairrage, or wants gays to be more attracted to his show because he acknowledgs the way they live. Pointless addition from my perspective.

Completely agree with you.

He was going to be the gay friend and then his manager said nope. So now they are still planning on bringing a homosexual on the show at some point but who knows or cares when. Either way this topic has poped up more times in the forums than I can remember.

yeah, hope they don't add a gay to the show, too because then we all might catch the gay bug as well just from watchiong!!!

They weren't goign to make him gay to attract agy people to the show, but because in real life their are gay people. And he not not gay because his manager said no way, the part the kid auditioned for was as a agy character

It sucks that Zach is gone, Claire needed someone, but who said he was really gay?

I actually read the other day about his new shows shooting schedule. It looks like it shoots opposite of heroes. So maybe he will find the time to come back some.
