OMG... how cool... not canon, but it does make sense to have Chloe as Oracle... I do like her codename, though...

Why bashing? It makes perfect sense. Chloe will move to Gothan City and change her name to Barbara Gordon, therefore becoming BatGirl and later on, Oracle. I am just kidding. Don't be offended, please.

Seriously, now, I don't see why. It is not like they could get over the "batman" embargo and have Barbara Gordon, so, I am cool with it.

I wouldn't say it necessarily means she's going to turn out to be a pre-existing comics character like Oracle. But regardless, it was definitely an awesome foreshadowing of the role that people like Oracle and Martian Manhunter will have in coordinating Justice League missions from the Watchtower, and so appropriate for Chloe's character.

It does give her reason to leave the Daily Planet and make room for Lois.
Maybe Lois' "in" at the planet will be stories on the Justice Something League.

It's just amazing to me how Chloe seems to be everything on this show if the plot calls for it. I felt like I was watching 24's Chloe tonight.
Well not oracle. But still cool as Watchtower none-the-less.
GA and the boys facial expressions when Chloe showed up and was all 'yeah I know everything' was pretty funny. I'm glad they didn't hold it against her - they need a smart lady like her around to give them the assist now and again. :D

Chloe being called "Watchtower" doesn't make her "Oracle." Not even SV's version.
The crux of the matter is, her lifelong passion is journalism and the Daily Planet. And there's no way she'd just give that up and be all "Nah, I think I'd rather do something else instead." That'd be the worst lightswitch ever.
Sorry. Just doesn't work.

no she's not going to be the orical . they are changing the comic roles a bit . she is taking the place of lanna in the comics.......see in the comics lanna knows everything about clark and keeps his secret , hence chloie's charictor, and lanna I think is a reporter too and if not she has some thing to do with admin.

Well - I guess Chloe could always morph into Ollie's assistant - I mean she KNOWS everything about them anyways. Good cover. That would open a spot at the Planet for Lois -
But that being said - Chloe is way better at the investigating than Lois is and I really like Chloe being a main person on the show - she gives the show some extra spirit. :)

The references to "Oracle" and "Watchtower" are probably nods to the comics, but who knows what Smallville will do. Personally, I would like to see them refered to as "superfriends" and work at the Hall of Justice, with junior members Wendy, Marvin, and Wonder Dog.

I believe "Watchtower" refers to the future name of the JLA headquarters, which is called the Justice League Watchtower. If it was not an allusion, then "Watchtower" could refer to the fact that Oliver's apartment is a clock tower (or tower with a big clock), and that Chloe is "watching" over the team's movements. Hence the name, "Watchtower."

I think the infrared scan came from the Queen Industries orbiting satellite.
And if I can swallow a coast line in Kansas, I can overlook a satellite with high tech capabilities.

All she did was keep track of everyone from Oliver's computer and keep them all in sync - do you really find that so amazing and unbelievable? Is it me or does it seem like it's gotten to the point where Chloe could simply tie her shoes and everyone would freak out over what a magnificent feat she had just accomplished. Not to mention, it would have really sucked if Chloe wasn't the Watchtower, because that means one of the other JLers would have had to fill that role and wouldn't be able to be as involved in the action. Complain all you want, but Chloe's presence allow all the other heroes to do what they do best.

And why does one indicate that the other cannot be? Secret identities anyone? And she doesn't need to be somewhere secreted away all the time to be of use... I thought it was pretty apropos- she was acting like Oracle, and called Watchtower...

Chloe is a brillant hacker though and it would be a great way to end the series by having Chloe going off with the Justice League and being an Oracle type person, running/hacking computers, tracking them and their enemies, while the others are in the field. She has been one of the smartest, most creative characters on the show, I think that would be a better 'profession' for her and then maybe Lois can take over for her & get a 'real' reporter job at the Planet.

You know I actually never noticed Ollie's apartment was in a clock tower? That made the whole Oracle name jump out at me all the more suddenly, because wasn't Oracle's Gothem HQ a Clock Tower too?

So I'm guessing Chloe will end up getting shot by the Joker and end up in a wheel chair too?
I can just picture it.
Joker (after shooting Chloe): Oh no. Sorry, wrong room. I thought Batgirl lived here.
Chloe (writhing in pain from the gunshot): No. She's in the next room down the hall.
Joker: Thanks.
Chloe: No problem.

THis technology does exist although I also though initially they were getting things directly from the Queen Industries sat network. Everyone on screen should move the plot in some way, for good or bad; that is not at all a bad thing in and of itself. It's whether that character succeeds, whether he or she does it poorly or not much at all or wonderfully and that is always in part due to the talent of the actors or actresses portraying them, which is unavoidable but nevertheless true.
I find Chloe to be a charming character who is multi-talented and the actress who portrays her makes the character thoroughly enjoyable. I don't think she does too much or is made to seem over accomplished; she does, in fact, what Lois Lane does in the comics and helps Clark out thereby. I also believe, for that one hour, that there exists a guy who came from another planet and who can lift tractors with his bare hands and run so fast the eye can't see him. It's a comic book on screen and every aspect of it is not exactly a mirror of real life although it should resemble reality as much as possible. I think Chloe is just right and I happen to like the way she ties her shoes!

I just loved Chloe in this. And it was cool how her codename was watch tower and how all of the heroe's just accepted her help like that. They all worked together so well.
It was nice shout out to the Justice league head quarters.

Seems pretty clear to me that, unlike what other people in this thread are thinking, that "Watchtower" isn't referring to Chloe, it's to Ollie's apartment.
Like omegadirective said, Ollie's place is in the top of a tower (how can you people have missed all those elevator entrances and cutscenes of the clock... I mean, how obvious can they make it? :p), so it all makes sense.

Obvious enough to miss I guess lol......:D
I caught that yes Ollie lives in a tower and that yes anyone could have been there as the lookout - but for the purpose of the episode - Chloe was 'WatchTower' because she was the point-of-contact in the tower. ;)

I'm glad some other people caught the Oracle reference! The second they called her Watchtower, I thought 'Chloe thinks shes the Oracle!' LOL. I'm an Oracle/Batgirl fan, so for me, Chloe can never be the Oracle. But it was nice to see her in that kind of role, it suits her.

I'm with you there. I'm a batgirl/oracle fan myself and she can never be replaced. But it was a nice nod to the comics and it was nice to see Chloe in that type of work - seems to suit her better than her DP job ;)

I think it was more of a nod at "The Oracle" rather than an attempt to replace her.
However I am 100% sure they would have used Barbra Gorden if it were possible at all. But since it wasn't, they at least tipped a hat at her.

I agree. I squeed at the Watchtower reference as I thought "heh, Chloe is playing Oracle there". It was a nice nod, since we can't have Babs cause of the Bat-Embargo. And let's face it, at this point Chloe is as good or better with computers than even Ms. Gordon.

Well, I have heard of them before, but they didn't explain it as such. An explanation would have been better. But Chloe would have no idea how to operate an infrared satellite. And she would have no idea how to hack, unless her getting transported to the Arctic gave her that knowledge (which, if it did, Clark would also know how to hack).
I'm sorry, but I just hate what they're doing with her. Go ask any reporter, especially one that's out of highschool and barely started college to do all the hacking and reverse engineering she does and you'll see how much luck you'll have. It's OK to like Chloe (heck, I still do though my respect is dropping). But people should really break away from their bias of Chloe and take a look at it realistically. That would be as realistic as Lana appearing in rodeos and riding bulls, wild horses and other stuff there all because she could ride horses before. Or as realistic as Lana operating satellites and taking photos of meteor trajectories herself and hacking into all sorts of stuff that has to do with secrets & lies since that is what she's interested in. If it's ridiculous to take 1 character so far out of their context, then it's the same to do that to another.
The knowledge needed in becoming a reporter has NOTHING, not 1 damn thing, in common with hacking and operating stealth machinery or weapons/satellite systems. Or knowing about microchips, frequencies, etc (as seen in Mercy). It's all nonsense. Notice how Oracle in the Batman comics is not a reporter. She actually got training to do what she does, probably from the same people that trained Batman to operate the Batmobile and all his hi-tech toys & tracking devices. Chloe has shown no such interest in these areas to have that knowledge. The only time I can make an excuse for knowledge in operating such devices that was shown is what she did in Jinx. In that episode, she did mention that she got the device from Sam Lane. And knowing what she went through (her house getting blown up), she probably was taught how to use that device during the summer while hiding in that house set up by Lex. But that would not be even close to the amount of time for her to have learned about all the stuff they have shown her doing in season 5.
If I try to use the laptop I'm typing this post on to do what Chloe did in Mortal, I would be dead in the water.
All I'm saying to TPTB is give the girl some reality for a change and bring her back into the role she was meant to be in and the one she started off in. Don't make the Chloe character jump the shark. If they wanted Chloe to be a tech geek, then they should have made her a whiz kid like Molly Griggs from Delete and not a reporter. Having Chloe do all that stuff is like having Lois in the future do it since they have the same job.

I thought it was cool that Chloe was Oracle. I was a bit apprehensive at first that SuperChloe would be the one to commandeer the JL, but that wasn't the case at all. The JL members are more experienced and as Cyborg demonstrated when hacking onto the perimeter security box, they would do their own thing if they felt their idea was better than Chloe's. Chloe provided an extra set of eyes and ears and kept track of where everyone was, which was a good thing because things tend to get confusing in the heat of battle.
Also from a storytelling point of view, I think it's convenient and necessary for Almiles to give Chloe knowledge about the JL, so when Clark mentions Aquaman, Impulse and Cyborg to Chloe (or anything that refers to the JL), in future eppies, it wouldn't be weird that Chloe is in the know, and this would help further future plot developments.
