View Full Version : Chloe contradicts herself, again. Huge mistake.

Chloe tells Jimmy that she has lived in Smallville for ten years. That is simply impossible. We learned in Obscura that Clark first met Chloe in grade eight when he was assigned to escort her around the school. That would mean that Chloe arrived in Smallville in 2000 or 2001 (at the latest) not 1996 as she claimed (2006 - 10 years).

Another Smallville discontinuity, like the time Chloe told Clark in Tomb her mother left when she was twelve yet she told Clark in Lineage her mother left when she was five.

Oh well.

Wow, you obviously pay more attention than me... So Chloe moved to SV right before the show started...?!? Cause it started in 2001, right? So, how come She, Pete and Clark were already the trio of 'best friends' in the pilot??? And when he told the story about the first Chlark kiss back in 8th grade, it certainly sounded longer ago than just a few months, no...?
Oh, well. I can live with dis-continuity.
After all, Chloe is a fictional character.
Yes, she is.
Yes, she is.
Yes, she is.
Yes, she is.
Yes, she is.
I have to keep telling myself, ya know...?

Clark and Pete had been lifelong friends. Clark, Chloe and Pete had been friends for a year at the start of the first season, which coincides with the start of the school year. They didn't screw that up at least.

Lack of continuity is just another Smallvillism. It's like the writers are trying their best to create enough phenomena to support a Smallville drinking game. "Chloe contradicts herself", take a drink. "Clark broods in his loft and plays with his balls", take a drink. "Lex opens a bottle of over priced water", take a drink, etc.

Lee/daddylion once put it very well (and much better than I can) when she said that in SV the writers just focus on a few 'big' moments every episode. They obviously don't care that much about the filler scenes in between those. The result is the sketchy drama we see every thursday, and the usual relationship desasters.

But what I don't understand is that some characters are still so damn believable that I actually really like them and keep coming back to see them...well, uh...her.

For the record, Shelby is a boy. Feel free to update your photo album accordingly. ;)

And Lee is most certainly correct, although the writers have put a lot more effort into continuity in the last few seasons.

Maybe Chloe was just saying 10 years like rounding it up.. because she would have been in Smallville for at least 7 years..

2006-2000 = 6 years. Smallville picks up the story at the start of the grade nine school year (2001). We don't know if Chloe to moved to Smallville in the fall of 2000 or part way through the school year, 2001, but she has been in Smallville no more than six years and no less than five.

Ten years is a bit of a stretch.

By the way, cute avatar. :)

daddylion also pointed out that the writers focus more on the big moments in the episode and let the details slide. I wish my job was like that. :(

Yeah, I don't think many people stretch how long they've lived somewhere, unless they just don't have good memory or something. I hate the lack of Smallville continuity.

Maybe instead of just coming to Smallville when Clark showed her around, she had been going to another school instead.

That is refuted by past statements and the fact that Smallville has only one highschool. The simple fact is the writers got it wrong. Again.

It's only a big deal for those that agonize over certain details.

Just put this discontinuity in the closet with all the other like the discontinuity that smallville is six hours away from metropolis even though the characters drive it in like 2.

Three hours. Smallville is three hours away. It has been mentioned quite a few times. Six hours for a round trip. Is that what you meant?

Jimmy: 'Sorry, Chloe, I was just so happy to see you...'

The distance between Metropolis and Smallville has changed many times. It used to be six hours, then three hours, and now I'm guessing 30 minutes. I mean, seriously, has anyone watched Hypnotic?

Crazy.

Well, the characters have consistently said that Smallville is about three hours away, as have TPTB. In Truth, Pete, under the influence of the truth drug that Chloe was exposed to, tells Chloe that Clark is going to Metropolis for Sharks dogs. Chloe acts incredulous and questions why Clark would make a six hour round trip just for some hotdogs.

Of course, that doesn't mean any of the storylines will accurately reflect that fact. You pointed to Hypnotic, definitely the worst offender in that regard. In that episode, Lana drives to Metropolis to speak to Chloe then drives back to Smallville to confront Clark. A six hour trip and to top it off, Clark was about to make love to Simone. Clark and Simone just sat there for three hours while Lana drove from Metropolis? Ridiculous!

i noticed this too. I have stopped believing that smallville can do anything good anymore, besides keeping clark looking sexy as ever (though they aer lax on that too as then never give him any freaking air time).

It is freaking ridiculous! Clark is on the phone to Lana and Simone is tramping it up. Cut to Lana arriving at the farm just as they are about to make love, somewhere in the range of three hours later. Huh? Then to top it off, they show Simone and Clark in the farm house when Chloe arrives (and another three hours later, I assume). Apparently they did not make love after all.

Stupid episode.

I just saw Subterrean tonight and shook my head when she said that baout 10 years. I instantly thought back to "Obscura" and did some mental math and then sighed. AlandMiles really, really, really need to hire someone just to go over scripts and point these mistakes out, you know?

I volunteer.

Or, they could always just come to KSite and ask us!

Sheesh.

Technically if Clark can make a round trip to and from the Stadium in 10 minutes (assuming standard 60 miles/hr travel estimate) that would put Clark's speed at 2160 mi/hr which is almost as fast as a speeding bullet.

Someone should come up with the "definite" list of facts, figures and timelines for Smallville.

Seriously.

I noticed that too. And I was thinking that in eighth grade, the very youngest she could have been was like thirteen. And she's twenty now. Geez, the writers must think we're all just stupid.
