INT. HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM - NIGHT
A young African American lady screams for help as she gives birth, but DOCTOR. ERIC THOMAS knows that the premature child may not make it.
A nurse shrieks at the sight of the child, it’s a boy that is missing a right hand. DOCTOR. THOMAS looks at the child, horror stricken and suddenly notices that the mother of the child is unconscious. DOCTOR THOMAS checks for a heartbeat but there’s none and the pulse machine makes a long noise that confirmed she was dead and so was the child.
JACOB sits outside the room, staring intently at the floor. He is worried for his wife, he is aware that the child would be premature and that makes him even more scared. We see fear in his eyes as he stares at the door leading to the emergency room. Suddenly, DOCTOR. THOMAS comes out and JACOB stands up immediately and hurries towards him.
THOMAS
(Apologetically)
We did everything possible Jacob.
JACOB
(confused)
What do you mean?.
THOMAS
Your wife had a son… the child didn’t make it.
JACOB
(Eyes closed)
My wife?.
THOMAS
(shaking his head)
I’m sorry
He walks away as JACOB stays standing with tears dripping from his eyes. Meanwhile, a man appears in the room where the dead baby is kept, his face cannot be seen. A knife appears on his left hand and he cuts some skin from his right hand and forges a new one for the child. He places it where it should be and the baby begins to glow. At that moment DOCTOR THOMAS enters the room and stares in awe.
THOMAS
(Yelling)
What are you doing here?. You’re not meant to be …
The man raises his hand towards DOCTOR THOMAS and a great white light covers the entire hospital. The moment the light is no more, the man is nowhere to be found. DOCTOR THOMAS stares at the child that is wide awake
THOMAS
(Smiling)
Hey there, ready to see your daddy
Moments later Jacob is taken to see his son, he sits down beside the incubator and wipes the tears from his eyes
JACOB
Don’t worry son, I’ll take care of you… I promise. I’ll take care of you…Adam.
INT. REDSTONE CAFÉ- DAY
MARCUS and JENNY sit down having a cup of coffee. They are both waiting for ADAM to show up because it is his sixteenth birthday and they want to celebrate.
JENNY
(sighing)
Jeez, where could he be?.
MARCUS
(Looking around)
Maybe on an errand for his father.
JENNY
He should try calling to say so.
MARCUS
(smiling)
Well, I’m having a good time.
JENNY
Keep dreaming Marcus, this is not a date and if u even think of telling anyone that it is I’ll…
ADAM
(panting)
Hi guys, sorry I’m late. My father…
JENNY
Save it, happy birthday Adam. (she gives him a watch)
ADAM
Thanks Jen. (He hugs her)
MARCUS
(shaking Adam’s hand)

ADAM

JENNY
What are we waiting for, let’s go everyone’s obviously waiting over at the hall.
In the corner of the restaurant, a young man watches ADAM as he walks out of the café. After looking at him for a while he smiles
GABRIEL
(smiling)
The Right Hand.
INT. JAMES RESIDENCE- NIGHT
ADAM walks in looking tired, JACOB stares at him for a while trying to see if his son is drunk
ADAM
Hey dad.
JACOB
Hello son. How was the party?.
ADAM
Pretty cool.
JACOB
You didn’t drink, did you?.
ADAM
(sighs)
No dad, I didn’t.
JACOB
(smiles)
Cant believe you’re already sixteen. I can still remember sitting beside the incubator you were put in when you were born, now here you are coming home at 11PM. I should ground you.
ADAM
(Laughing)
Goodnight dad (he walks upstairs)
ADAM gets some sleep but is woken up by a cracking noise he hears from downstairs. He creeps down looking around and turns on the kitchen lights expecting to see his father but instead, it’s the man from the café.
ADAM
What the…?
GABRIEL
Hello Adam, I’m Gabriel
ADAM wastes no time and tries to run for the phone but suddenly he is no longer home, just in a vast white room with two chairs on the centre, Gabriel sitting on one of them wearing a white suit.
GABRIEL
Would you like to sit down?.
ADAM
(Shouting)
How the hell!?.
GABRIEL
relax my friend…and watch your tongue. I have been sent here to give you a message.
ADAM
A message? What happened to just waking up in the morning and seeing messages in the god damn mailbox?.
GABRIEL
(looking calm)
Adam, I said relax and watch your tongue
ADAM
What are you gonna do?, shoot me?
GABRIEL raises his hand toward ADAM and he falls on the chair, feeling calm all of a sudden.
ADAM
(confused)
Huh?.
GABRIEL
(Smiling)
Good. Now, what I’m about to tell you wont sink in too well because you’re basically a mortal and from my experience mortals don’t really believe anything that cant be explained by science. It may come out to be, as you mortals say, “freaky”.
ADAM
Man, what the hell are you talking about?
GABRIEL
I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t use the word “hell” in that manner again. Tell me, ever heard of Angel Gabriel
ADAM
What does that have to do with anything?
GABRIEL
(still smiling)

Yes I have and if this is about me missing classes last Sunday and you happen to represent them I’ll tell you now, I wasn’t faking the flu I had.

That’s not why I’m here and yes, you were faking the flu. You, my friend are the right hand, chosen by the Archangel Michael himself to uphold the balance between Earth, Heaven and hell. The leader of Heaven, God, is still not willing to break that conformity even though The Devil already has, so Michael decided to take care of the problem himself. You are the result of his passion. ADAM
(confused)

GABRIEL
(Sighs)

(looking around nervously)

(Yelling)

He snaps his fingers and Adam is drawn into what seems like an endless pit. Minutes later, he awakens… it is morning.

INT.ALEVIEW HIGH SCHOOL- DAY
Students from Aleview crowd the hallway. Adam walks in and greets anyone that he passes. He stops at his locker and 3 girls stand at a corner, whispering and smiling at him

He smiles and walks up to Marcus.
ADAM

MARCUS

ADAM
Where’s Jen?
MARCUS
Why are you asking me, it’s not like we’re…
ADAM
(interrupting)
Ok, my bad. I think she’s into you though
MARCUS
(smiling)

ADAM
That’s right, just play your cards right. She’ll succumb eventually

ADAM

Adam feels a sharp pain on his right hand. He stops walking and holds it hard
MARCUS
Adam, are you okay?
ADAM
(Groaning)
Yes, I have to go to the toilet, I’ll see you in class
He walks away
MARCUS
You’re going to be late for the first period man
ADAM
(running)
I’ll be there
He gets to the toilet and stares at his hand which is glowing. He walks up to the sink and puts water on it. When he looks up, he sees Gabriel standing behind him from the mirror.
GABRIEL
It is time my friend
ADAM
(in awe)
What is happening to me?
GABRIEL
The power of the archangel is being channeled to you. You are old enough to take the responsibility.
ADAM
What…what responsibility
GABRIEL
That of banishing all evil spirits in the world to the prisons of hades
ADAM

GABRIEL
(stretching out his hand)

Adam stares at him for a moment and then slowly extends his hand to Gabriel and they vanish.
INT CAFETERIA- DAY
As Marcus eats lunch, Jenny walks up to his table
JENNY
Where’s Adam, he wasn’t in any class today
MARCUS
That’s weird. We were together this morning
JENNY
Then where is he?
MARCUS
Well, he looked pretty sick and ran to the toilet, maybe he went home
JENNY
Could that explain why I cant seem to reach him on his cell phone?
MARCUS
I really don’t know. Well, since you’re here already, would you like to sit down and have lunch with me
JENNY
Keep dreaming Hannigan. We’re going to his house to see how he’s doing.
She walks away.
EXT. CITADEL OF THE HIERARCHY- DAY
Adam and Gabriel stand in front of the huge white castle located on the very top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere.
ADAM
(in awe)
Wow
GABRIEL
The Citadel of the hierarchy was once used as the meeting base of the angels during the Great battle of heaven. It hasn’t been used ever since.
ADAM
Battle, what battle?
GABRIEL
Slowly Adam, we’ll get to that eventually. Now come, let us begin your training
They go into a room where there is no furniture other than a chair with a ray of light shining down on it. Gabriel tells Adam to sit down and he slowly does and closes his eyes. He sees the day of his birth, his mother dying…his own death.
ADAM
(whisper)
No…
He sees Michael bringing him back to life by carving a right hand for him with his own flesh; he sees the flash of light caused by Michael to make everyone in the hospital forget he ever died and the light suddenly vanishes and Adam opens his eyes looking terrified.
ADAM
(Panting)
I remember. I remember it all, I was dead. I saw a bright light…I was floating towards it but was soon dragged back. But…but I was a baby, how is it that I remember all this?
GABRIEL
Michael made it so.
ADAM
I feel… different
Adams right hand begins to glow, he stares at it for a while.
ADAM
What am I supposed to do?
GABRIEL
Today you begin the first part of your training.
ADAM
When do I begin my second?
GABRIEL
Depends, next year, next two years
ADAM
(Astonished)
What?
GABRIEL
Your first lesson: What your right hand is for and how to use it
ADAM
Uhm…okay
GABRIEL
Good, your right hand is the foundation of all your power and your life. Without it you would literally be dead
ADAM
What power and what do you mean I’d be dead
GABRIEL
Well, you were given life the moment that hand was placed on you, so now it’s your… how do you say… Achilles heel
ADAM
But it aint like someone would walk up to me and cut it off…right?
GABRIEL
Adam, no mortal can cut that hand, as a matter of fact you’re invulnerable to any mortal weapon. However, you must put under consideration that you are not only going to encounter mortal enemies, but those from the depths of hell. If they knew about you, I’m pretty sure they’d come up with a way of defeating you.
ADAM
Okay, so what powers do I have
GABRIEL
Your powers are still at their infancy, they’ll come to you as you get older. If the information given to me is right, all you can do now is exorcism.
ADAM
Exorcism, don’t I need to know how to pray for that?
Gabriel stares at Adam for a while and then shakes his head
GABRIEL
No, you don’t. It’s a natural gift for you; just a wave of your hand should do it.
ADAM
Great
GABRIEL
(Whispering)
I can’t believe you can’t pray
ADAM
What?
GABRIEL
Nothing. Let’s continue. Sometimes you may not have the chance to just wave your hand and banish a demon to hell, you’d have to weaken them first with a fight if necessary… so I you have to learn the angelic arts.
ADAM
Angelic arts?
GARBRIEL
Yes, it’s a form of combat perfected by angels
ADAM
Angels fight?
GABRIEL
Well, we were a peaceful race in the past until the great battle, we had no choice.
ADAM
There you go talking about a great battle again, what is it?
GABRIEL
We’ll get to that. You must learn the first stage of this art now…it may take a while
Suddenly the ray of light shines down on the chair again and he begins to see a man fighting another man and all that he sees is being stored in his brain.
INT. JAMES RESIDENTS- DAY
Jacob has just returned from work and is about to enter the living room when there’s a knock on the door. He opens it and Jenny smiles at him while Marcus is getting out of his Porsche
JACOB
New ride Marcus?
MARCUS
Yes sir (shakes Jacob’s hand)
JENNY
Hey
JACOB
Hello Jenny, what can I do for you two?
JENNY
Well, we were wondering what was wrong with Adam; he left school looking a little sick.
JACOB
Adam? (He goes to the stairs and yells to see if Adam’s home)
He’s not here.
MARCUS
That’s weird; he missed the whole day of school
JACOB
He what?
JENNY
Oookay, I think I better leave. See you later Mr. James
They both walk away
MARCUS
Snitch
JENNY
Hey!, how would I have known that…
MARCUS
(Interrupting)
Forget it, I’m worried for Adam, we have to look for him
They both get into the car
INT HANNIGAN RESIDENTS- DAY
Senator Marlon Hannigan sits down in his study going through some files when a lady walks in
HANNIGAN
Ah, Miss Bridge, so good to see you
MISS BRIDGE

HANNIGAN
I’m sure you’d be wondering why I asked for you
MISS BRIDGE
Yes sir
HANNIGAN
It concerns my son, Marcus
MISS BRIDGE

HANNIGAN
He was being followed yesterday by men I believe work for your newspaper.
MISS BRIDGE
(Shocked)

(Interrupting)

She walks out slowly. Hannigan pours himself a glass of brandy and stares at one of his many paintings
INT. CITADEL OF THE HIERARCHY- DAY
Hours have passed and Adam has learned all the basics of the Angelic arts. He stands up from the chair he was on for the past three hours and looks at Gabriel
GABRIEL
How do you feel?
ADAM
Great, I feel great
GABRIEL
Well then, let’s put what you’ve learned to the test
ADAM
How?
GABRIEL
I shall send you to limbo
ADAM
Limbo?
GABRIEL
Yes, there’s an unrepentant soul down there and its somehow gained demonic powers and causing a complete disaster.
ADAM
You want me to destroy it?
GABRIEL
You don’t have the power to destroy demons yet Adam, but you can send it to hell.
He waves his hand and almost immediately, Alan is in a dark place.
ADAM
Gabriel?, GABRIEL!
He hears something from behind him but when he looks he sees nothing. He is scared at this point. He knows he has the skill to defend himself, but he’s also aware that he doesn’t know how to use this skill exactly. He walks around slowly and suddenly, something hits him fast sending him face down on the ground. He looks up immediately
ADAM
(Coughing)
Who’s there?
The thing doesn’t speak, it just growls, Adam still cannot see it. By now, it is pretty obvious to him that he is facing the unrepentant soul. He strikes an awkward pose and looks in the direction of the growling but the soul is too fast for him, it hits him again but this time, Alan is hit over an edge of what seemed to be a cliff.
INT. THOMAS HOSPITAL- NIGHT
Jenny rushes into the hospital in search of her father, Dr. Edward Thomas, and she finds him in his office. He stands up, looking at her surprised
THOMAS
Jennifer, what are you doing here at this time?
JENNY
I’m sorry dad, I was wondering if Alan was here today. He looked pretty sick at school today and we haven’t seen him since morning. I figured he’d be here.
THOMAS
Well, considering he’s the friend of the family I’d be aware if young Mr. James was here today. Nevertheless, I’ll check. (Picks phone) hello, Molly, has Adam James been here today?…uh huh…okay…thank you. (He drops). No dear, he hasn’t.
Jenny nods and looks at her father worried.
JENNY
Thank you for checking (she turns to leave)
THOMAS
Wait dear; I was wondering if we could have a little chat
JENNY
About?
THOMAS
It’s your friend, Mr. Hannigan
JENNY
Marcus?
THOMAS
Yes. I really don’t feel at ease with the idea of you being his close friend. He’s the son of Marlon Hannigan… he isn’t the best role model for a child, only god knows what he’s taught his son over the years.
JENNY
(Shocked)
Dad, we’re talking about an American senator. How could he be a bad influence to his son?
THOMAS
Jennifer, you don’t know Marlon like I do. He’s ruthless and treacherous. Please, stay away from his boy.
JENNY
Dad, I’d really appreciate it if you wouldn’t pick my friends right now
Thomas knows he cannot convince his daughter, so he keeps silent
EXT- LIMBO- UNSURE OF TIME
Adam is able to hold on to something and climbs back up, however, he is soon attacked again. However, this time, the soul attacks without stopping so Adam waves his fists around hoping he can use his right hand for something. Suddenly, his right hand glows and he hits the soul away. Adam takes a while to observe his glowing hand and feels power rushing through him. The soul attacks again, but Adam is the faster one and he holds it by the neck until he can get a better view of what he’s holding.
ADAM
Now I see you.
Adam stares at the man and throws him hard on the ground. The ground shakes a bit. He places his right hand on the soul’s chest and it glows more than before, the soul begins to shout until a portal is made on the ground and it enters it.
ADAM
(Panting)
Done
He hears clapping from behind and sees Gabriel standing beside a portal
GABRIEL
Very good. Took you long enough
ADAM
Where does that lead to?
GABRIEL
Back home.
Adam walks towards it and is stopped
GABRIEL
Remember what you must do. I will be back to explain more.
ADAM
Are there demons on Earth right now?
GABRIEL
Yes, they posses the bodies of mortals everyday
ADAM
Then how would I know where to find them
GABRIEL
You will have a severe headache. It will lead you straight to them. Now go
Adam slowly walks in and vanishes.
EXT. HIGHWAY- NIGHT
Marcus is driving around in his Porsche looking for Adam until he sees a bright light from the sky. It shoots down like a shooting star. He stops the car and comes out to observe
MARCUS
What in heavens name…?
On the other side of the highway, Adam appears from the light and looks around. Shortly afterwards, Marcus drives over and sees Adam standing
MARCUS
Adam?
ADAM
(Looking calm)
Marcus, hi
MARCUS
Dude, did you drop out of the sky?
Adam stares at Marcus for a while and laughs
ADAM
(Laughing)
Man, you’re on drugs right?
MARCUS
(Laughing)
I must be seeing things.
ADAM
Yes
MARCUS
Anyway, where have you been and what on earth are you doing here?
ADAM
Had a headache. I thought I’d take a walk, before I knew what was happening, I found myself here.
MARCUS
You walked all the way here?
ADAM
I used the bus for part of it.
Marcus doesn’t look convinced so Adam has to change topic
ADAM
Well, I’m ready to go home now. Could you give me a lift?
MARCUS
Sure
Adam stops and notices his watch is missing
ADAM
Oh no
MARCUS
What?
ADAM
The watch Jenny gave me, I think I’ve lost it
MARCUS
(Smiling)
Make sure she doesn’t know this, or you’re dead
They get into the car.
INT. JAMES RESIDENCE
After giving his father the same excuse as he gave Marcus, Adam walks back to his room and lies on his bed. He suddenly gets a severe headache. He holds his head with his hands and stares at the ceiling
ADAM
(In pain)
What’s happening?
He falls on the floor and something comes to him. He remembers part of his lesson where he is told that a headache means someone is being possessed somewhere. HE stands up and walks to his window. He stares outside.
ADAM
Very well then, there’s a new sheriff in town boys. (puts on gloves)
He jumps out from the window. He takes his bicycle and begins to ride. After a while, he ends up in front of a movie theatre.
He looks around and he sees a man walking towards him speculatively.
MAN
Do I know you kid
ADAM
I doubt that (he looks at the man and suddenly feels his hand burining)
MAN
Okay (He walks away)
ADAM
Wait (the man looks back at him)
MAN
What?
ADAM
(Smiling)
You forgot to get out of that body
MAN
(Nervously)
What did you say kid?
He approaches Adam
ADAM
I said, leave that body
MAN
Who the hell are you?
ADAM
Your worst nightmare
The man jumps towards him but Adam punches him away with his right hand sending him passing through a brick wall. Adam looks around to see if anyone’s watching. The man stands up, his eyes looking grey now.
MAN
Good one, but do you really want to harm this body?
Adam stops to think. He realizes he never asked Gabriel
ADAM
I’ll make an exception.
The man attacks again and Adam dodges his every move then Adam punches him a couple of times. The man is tired and begins to run away, Adam follows.
They get to an alley where the man is no longer alone but with three others.
MAN #2
No way, is this the kid that’s giving you so much trouble
MAN
He’s strong, I mean it
MAN#3
I’ll handle him
He moves at super speed and is standing directly in front of Adam. Adam stares at him in the face and notices the color of his eyes, grey like the other.
MAN#3
(Smiling)
Well, well
ADAM
You shouldn’t have come so close
MAN#3
(Smiling)
Oh yeh, why not?
ADAM
(Bends his head)
First of all your mouth stinks
The man stops smiling and scowls
ADAM
Second of all, my right hand (he places it on his chest)… is a menace
The man begins to shout and a hole opens up in the ground. A spirit comes out of the body and enters it. The body of the man falls to the ground while the others look in shock. Adam looks at the man to see if he’s alive and then looks at the other three.
ADAM
Who’s next?
The all yell and jump towards him at the same time and this time the challenge is more for him. He eventually sends two of the spirits back to hell and the first man escapes again
ADAM
(Dryly)
This is getting frustrating.
He runs after him. The man runs and runs until he thinks Adam has lost his trail. He looks back as he is walking to be sure and then bumps into someone, Adam.
Before the man can run again, Adam places his right hand on his forehead causing the same reaction. Adam stands there and looks at the body
ADAM
This feels good.
INT. THOMAS HOSPITAL- NIGHT
A nurse runs to Dr. Thomas’ office
NURSE
Doctor, come quick!
Dr.Thomas runs out and sees four men lying outside of the hospitals. He goes to observe them and sees palm marks on their chests and one on the fore head of one of the men.
THOMAS
Who brought them here?
NURSE
We do not know doctor. It was like they just … appeared here.
Dr. Thomas stares at the nurse and then the men.
Scene switches to the Hannigan residence where he is reading magazine while a man is talking to him
DUNCAN
Sir?
HANNIGAN
Yes Duncan
DUNCAN
We’ve done the research. What your son saw wasn’t a shooting star.
HANNIGAN
(Stops reading)
Then what was it?
DUNCAN
We’re not entirely sure sir. We’ll need to do some more research.
HANNIGAN
Very well, report to me as soon as possible
DUNCAN
Yes sir (he leaves)
Hannigan begins to examine a watch that looks burnt and then drops it in the safe behind one of his paintings.

MARCUS and JENNY sit down having a cup of coffee. They are both waiting for ADAM to show up because it is his sixteenth birthday and they want to celebrate.
JENNY
(sighing)
Jeez, where could he be?.
MARCUS
(Looking around)
Maybe on an errand for his father.
JENNY
He should try calling to say so.
MARCUS
(smiling)
Well, I’m having a good time.
JENNY
Keep dreaming Marcus, this is not a date and if u even think of telling anyone that it is I’ll…
ADAM
(panting)
Hi guys, sorry I’m late. My father…
JENNY
Save it, happy birthday Adam. (she gives him a watch)
ADAM
Thanks Jen. (He hugs her)
MARCUS
(shaking Adam’s hand)
Happy birthday pal.
ADAM
Thanks man.
JENNY
What are we waiting for, let’s go everyone’s obviously waiting over at the hall.
In the corner of the restaurant, a young man watches ADAM as he walks out of the café. After looking at him for a while he smiles
GABRIEL
(smiling)
The Right Hand.
INT. JAMES RESIDENCE- NIGHT
ADAM walks in looking tired, JACOB stares at him for a while trying to see if his son is drunk
ADAM
Hey dad.
JACOB
Hello son. How was the party?.
ADAM
Pretty cool.
JACOB
You didn’t drink, did you?.
ADAM
(sighs)
No dad, I didn’t.
JACOB
(smiles)
Cant believe you’re already sixteen. I can still remember sitting beside the incubator you were put in when you were born, now here you are coming home at 11PM. I should ground you.
ADAM
(Laughing)
Goodnight dad (he walks upstairs)
ADAM gets some sleep but is woken up by a cracking noise he hears from downstairs. He creeps down looking around and turns on the kitchen lights expecting to see his father but instead, it’s the man from the café.
ADAM
What the…?
GABRIEL
Hello Adam, I’m Gabriel
ADAM wastes no time and tries to run for the phone but suddenly he is no longer home, just in a vast white room with two chairs on the centre, Gabriel sitting on one of them wearing a white suit.
GABRIEL
Would you like to sit down?.
ADAM
(Shouting)
How the hell!?.
GABRIEL
relax my friend…and watch your tongue. I have been sent here to give you a message.
ADAM
A message? What happened to just waking up in the morning and seeing messages in the god damn mailbox?.
GABRIEL
(looking calm)
Adam, I said relax and watch your tongue
ADAM
What are you gonna do?, shoot me?
GABRIEL raises his hand toward ADAM and he falls on the chair, feeling calm all of a sudden.
ADAM
(confused)
Huh?.
GABRIEL
(Smiling)
Good. Now, what I’m about to tell you wont sink in too well because you’re basically a mortal and from my experience mortals don’t really believe anything that cant be explained by science. It may come out to be, as you mortals say, “freaky”.
ADAM
Man, what the hell are you talking about?
GABRIEL
I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t use the word “hell” in that manner again. Tell me, ever heard of Angel Gabriel
ADAM
What does that have to do with anything?
GABRIEL
(still smiling)
Please answer
ADAM
Yes I have and if this is about me missing classes last Sunday and you happen to represent them I’ll tell you now, I wasn’t faking the flu I had.
GABRIEL
That’s not why I’m here and yes, you were faking the flu. You, my friend are the right hand, chosen by the Archangel Michael himself to uphold the balance between Earth, Heaven and hell. You see… a very long time ago a treaty was signed between Heaven and Hell. The treaty clearly avowed that neither party would be allowed to ever interfere with the affairs of mankind. However, Hell didn’t follow the agreement; human beings are being possessed everyday by its villainous demons. The leader of Heaven, God, is still not willing to break that conformity even though The Devil already has, so Michael decided to take care of the problem himself. You are the result of his passion. You, my friend, were born without a right hand and lifeless, Michael gave you part of his hand and life, however you are not fully human, you are what we choose to call “bonus instrument obviam malum” good’s instrument against evil.
ADAM
(confused)
Say what?
GABRIEL
(Sighs)
You know, I really wished you’d be able to understand all that without making me take the long cut to explain.
ADAM
(looking around nervously)
Dude, please take me home
GABRIEL
Adam, you have a job to do. You are alive for a reason
ADAM
(Yelling)
The hell with that, take me home!
GABRIEL
(looking frustrated and speaking to himself)
Michael, I warned you about giving a human this type of job
He snaps his fingers and Adam is drawn into what seems like an endless pit. Minutes later, he awakens… it is morning.
ADAM
(panting)
A dream.
INT.ALEVIEW HIGH SCHOOL- DAY
Students from Aleview crowd the hallway. Adam walks in and greets anyone that he passes. He stops at his locker and 3 girls stand at a corner, whispering and smiling at him
ADAM
Hello ladies
GIRLS
Hi Adam!
He smiles and walks up to Marcus.
ADAM
Hey man
MARCUS
Hey
ADAM
Where’s Jen?
MARCUS
Why are you asking me, it’s not like we’re…
ADAM
(interrupting)
Ok, my bad. I think she’s into you though
MARCUS
(smiling)
You think?
ADAM
That’s right, just play your cards right. She’ll succumb eventually
MARCUS
Dude, nothing can penetrate that heart of hers man. Its made of titanium or something.
ADAM
(laughing)
Look man, you probably have to…
Adam feels a sharp pain on his right hand. He stops walking and holds it hard
MARCUS
Adam, are you okay?
ADAM
(Groaning)
Yes, I have to go to the toilet, I’ll see you in class
He walks away
MARCUS
You’re going to be late for the first period man
ADAM
(running)
I’ll be there
He gets to the toilet and stares at his hand which is glowing. He walks up to the sink and puts water on it. When he looks up, he sees Gabriel standing behind him from the mirror.
GABRIEL
It is time my friend
ADAM
(in awe)
What is happening to me?
GABRIEL
The power of the archangel is being channeled to you. You are old enough to take the responsibility.
ADAM
What…what responsibility
GABRIEL
That of banishing all evil spirits in the world to the prisons of hades
ADAM
How?
GABRIEL
(stretching out his hand)
Come with me
Adam stares at him for a moment and then slowly extends his hand to Gabriel and they vanish.
INT CAFETERIA- DAY
As Marcus eats lunch, Jenny walks up to his table
JENNY
Where’s Adam, he wasn’t in any class today
MARCUS
That’s weird. We were together this morning
JENNY
Then where is he?
MARCUS
Well, he looked pretty sick and ran to the toilet, maybe he went home
JENNY
Could that explain why I cant seem to reach him on his cell phone?
MARCUS
I really don’t know. Well, since you’re here already, would you like to sit down and have lunch with me
JENNY
Keep dreaming Hannigan. We’re going to his house to see how he’s doing.
She walks away.
EXT. CITADEL OF THE HIERARCHY- DAY
Adam and Gabriel stand in front of the huge white castle located on the very top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere.
ADAM
(in awe)
Wow
GABRIEL
The Citadel of the hierarchy was once used as the meeting base of the angels during the Great battle of heaven. It hasn’t been used ever since.
ADAM
Battle, what battle?
GABRIEL
Slowly Adam, we’ll get to that eventually. Now come, let us begin your training
They go into a room where there is no furniture other than a chair with a ray of light shining down on it. Gabriel tells Adam to sit down and he slowly does and closes his eyes. He sees the day of his birth, his mother dying…his own death.
ADAM
(whisper)
No…
He sees Michael bringing him back to life by carving a right hand for him with his own flesh; he sees the flash of light caused by Michael to make everyone in the hospital forget he ever died and the light suddenly vanishes and Adam opens his eyes looking terrified.
ADAM
(Panting)
I remember. I remember it all, I was dead. I saw a bright light…I was floating towards it but was soon dragged back. But…but I was a baby, how is it that I remember all this?
GABRIEL
Michael made it so.
ADAM
I feel… different
Adams right hand begins to glow, he stares at it for a while.
ADAM
What am I supposed to do?
GABRIEL
Today you begin the first part of your training.
ADAM
When do I begin my second?
GABRIEL
Depends, next year, next two years
ADAM
(Astonished)
What?
GABRIEL
Your first lesson: What your right hand is for and how to use it
ADAM
Uhm…okay
GABRIEL
Good, your right hand is the foundation of all your power and your life. Without it you would literally be dead
ADAM
What power and what do you mean I’d be dead
GABRIEL
Well, you were given life the moment that hand was placed on you, so now it’s your… how do you say… Achilles heel
ADAM
But it aint like someone would walk up to me and cut it off…right?
GABRIEL
Adam, no mortal can cut that hand, as a matter of fact you’re invulnerable to any mortal weapon. However, you must put under consideration that you are not only going to encounter mortal enemies, but those from the depths of hell. If they knew about you, I’m pretty sure they’d come up with a way of defeating you.
ADAM
Okay, so what powers do I have
GABRIEL
Your powers are still at their infancy, they’ll come to you as you get older. If the information given to me is right, all you can do now is exorcism.
ADAM
Exorcism, don’t I need to know how to pray for that?
Gabriel stares at Adam for a while and then shakes his head
GABRIEL
No, you don’t. It’s a natural gift for you; just a wave of your hand should do it.
ADAM
Great
GABRIEL
(Whispering)
I can’t believe you can’t pray
ADAM
What?
GABRIEL
Nothing. Let’s continue. Sometimes you may not have the chance to just wave your hand and banish a demon to hell, you’d have to weaken them first with a fight if necessary… so I you have to learn the angelic arts.
ADAM
Angelic arts?
GARBRIEL
Yes, it’s a form of combat perfected by angels
ADAM
Angels fight?
GABRIEL
Well, we were a peaceful race in the past until the great battle, we had no choice.
ADAM
There you go talking about a great battle again, what is it?
GABRIEL
We’ll get to that. You must learn the first stage of this art now…it may take a while
Suddenly the ray of light shines down on the chair again and he begins to see a man fighting another man and all that he sees is being stored in his brain.
INT. JAMES RESIDENTS- DAY
Jacob has just returned from work and is about to enter the living room when there’s a knock on the door. He opens it and Jenny smiles at him while Marcus is getting out of his Porsche
JACOB
New ride Marcus?
MARCUS
Yes sir (shakes Jacob’s hand)
JENNY
Hey
JACOB
Hello Jenny, what can I do for you two?
JENNY
Well, we were wondering what was wrong with Adam; he left school looking a little sick.
JACOB
Adam? (He goes to the stairs and yells to see if Adam’s home)
He’s not here.
MARCUS
That’s weird; he missed the whole day of school
JACOB
He what?
JENNY
Oookay, I think I better leave. See you later Mr. James
They both walk away
MARCUS
Snitch
JENNY
Hey!, how would I have known that…
MARCUS
(Interrupting)
Forget it, I’m worried for Adam, we have to look for him
They both get into the car
INT HANNIGAN RESIDENTS- DAY
Senator Marlon Hannigan sits down in his study going through some files when a lady walks in
HANNIGAN
Ah, Miss Bridge, so good to see you
MISS BRIDGE
Senator
HANNIGAN
I’m sure you’d be wondering why I asked for you
MISS BRIDGE
Yes sir
HANNIGAN
It concerns my son, Marcus
MISS BRIDGE
What about him?
HANNIGAN
He was being followed yesterday by men I believe work for your newspaper.
MISS BRIDGE
(Shocked)
I assure you…
HANNIGAN
(Interrupting)
I pay you a lot of money to keep your vultures away from my son. The last thing I want is for my various gaffes on the front page of the Daily Archer.
MISS BRIDGE
I understand sen…
HANNIGAN
(interrupting)
I will definitely put you out of business if such a thing were to happen again Miss Bridge. I’ll make sure you won’t even be able to find a job at a High School newspaper in this entire country. Believe me, I can do that.
MISS BRIDGE
I’m …
HANNIGAN
(Interrupting)
You may leave
She walks out slowly. Hannigan pours himself a glass of brandy and stares at one of his many paintings
INT. CITADEL OF THE HIERARCHY- DAY
Hours have passed and Adam has learned all the basics of the Angelic arts. He stands up from the chair he was on for the past three hours and looks at Gabriel
GABRIEL
How do you feel?
ADAM
Great, I feel great
GABRIEL
Well then, let’s put what you’ve learned to the test
ADAM
How?
GABRIEL
I shall send you to limbo
ADAM
Limbo?
GABRIEL
Yes, there’s an unrepentant soul down there and its somehow gained demonic powers and causing a complete disaster.
ADAM
You want me to destroy it?
GABRIEL
You don’t have the power to destroy demons yet Adam, but you can send it to hell.
He waves his hand and almost immediately, Alan is in a dark place.
ADAM
Gabriel?, GABRIEL!
He hears something from behind him but when he looks he sees nothing. He is scared at this point. He knows he has the skill to defend himself, but he’s also aware that he doesn’t know how to use this skill exactly. He walks around slowly and suddenly, something hits him fast sending him face down on the ground. He looks up immediately
ADAM
(Coughing)
Who’s there?
The thing doesn’t speak, it just growls, Adam still cannot see it. By now, it is pretty obvious to him that he is facing the unrepentant soul. He strikes an awkward pose and looks in the direction of the growling but the soul is too fast for him, it hits him again but this time, Alan is hit over an edge of what seemed to be a cliff.
INT. THOMAS HOSPITAL- NIGHT
Jenny rushes into the hospital in search of her father, Dr. Edward Thomas, and she finds him in his office. He stands up, looking at her surprised
THOMAS
Jennifer, what are you doing here at this time?
JENNY
I’m sorry dad, I was wondering if Alan was here today. He looked pretty sick at school today and we haven’t seen him since morning. I figured he’d be here.
THOMAS
Well, considering he’s the friend of the family I’d be aware if young Mr. James was here today. Nevertheless, I’ll check. (Picks phone) hello, Molly, has Adam James been here today?…uh huh…okay…thank you. (He drops). No dear, he hasn’t.
Jenny nods and looks at her father worried.
JENNY
Thank you for checking (she turns to leave)
THOMAS
Wait dear; I was wondering if we could have a little chat
JENNY
About?
THOMAS
It’s your friend, Mr. Hannigan
JENNY
Marcus?
THOMAS
Yes. I really don’t feel at ease with the idea of you being his close friend. He’s the son of Marlon Hannigan… he isn’t the best role model for a child, only god knows what he’s taught his son over the years.
JENNY
(Shocked)
Dad, we’re talking about an American senator. How could he be a bad influence to his son?
THOMAS
Jennifer, you don’t know Marlon like I do. He’s ruthless and treacherous. Please, stay away from his boy.
JENNY
Dad, I’d really appreciate it if you wouldn’t pick my friends right now
Thomas knows he cannot convince his daughter, so he keeps silent
EXT- LIMBO- UNSURE OF TIME
Adam is able to hold on to something and climbs back up, however, he is soon attacked again. However, this time, the soul attacks without stopping so Adam waves his fists around hoping he can use his right hand for something. Suddenly, his right hand glows and he hits the soul away. Adam takes a while to observe his glowing hand and feels power rushing through him. The soul attacks again, but Adam is the faster one and he holds it by the neck until he can get a better view of what he’s holding.
ADAM
Now I see you.
Adam stares at the man and throws him hard on the ground. The ground shakes a bit. He places his right hand on the soul’s chest and it glows more than before, the soul begins to shout until a portal is made on the ground and it enters it.
ADAM
(Panting)
Done
He hears clapping from behind and sees Gabriel standing beside a portal
GABRIEL
Very good. Took you long enough
ADAM
Where does that lead to?
GABRIEL
Back home.
Adam walks towards it and is stopped
GABRIEL
Remember what you must do. I will be back to explain more.
ADAM
Are there demons on Earth right now?
GABRIEL
Yes, they posses the bodies of mortals everyday
ADAM
Then how would I know where to find them
GABRIEL
You will have a severe headache. It will lead you straight to them. Now go
Adam slowly walks in and vanishes.
EXT. HIGHWAY- NIGHT
Marcus is driving around in his Porsche looking for Adam until he sees a bright light from the sky. It shoots down like a shooting star. He stops the car and comes out to observe
MARCUS
What in heavens name…?
On the other side of the highway, Adam appears from the light and looks around. Shortly afterwards, Marcus drives over and sees Adam standing
MARCUS
Adam?
ADAM
(Looking calm)
Marcus, hi
MARCUS
Dude, did you drop out of the sky?
Adam stares at Marcus for a while and laughs
ADAM
(Laughing)
Man, you’re on drugs right?
MARCUS
(Laughing)
I must be seeing things.
ADAM
Yes
MARCUS
Anyway, where have you been and what on earth are you doing here?
ADAM
Had a headache. I thought I’d take a walk, before I knew what was happening, I found myself here.
MARCUS
You walked all the way here?
ADAM
I used the bus for part of it.
Marcus doesn’t look convinced so Adam has to change topic
ADAM
Well, I’m ready to go home now. Could you give me a lift?
MARCUS
Sure
Adam stops and notices his watch is missing
ADAM
Oh no
MARCUS
What?
ADAM
The watch Jenny gave me, I think I’ve lost it
MARCUS
(Smiling)
Make sure she doesn’t know this, or you’re dead
They get into the car.
INT. JAMES RESIDENCE
After giving his father the same excuse as he gave Marcus, Adam walks back to his room and lies on his bed. He suddenly gets a severe headache. He holds his head with his hands and stares at the ceiling
ADAM
(In pain)
What’s happening?
He falls on the floor and something comes to him. He remembers part of his lesson where he is told that a headache means someone is being possessed somewhere. HE stands up and walks to his window. He stares outside.
ADAM
Very well then, there’s a new sheriff in town boys. (puts on gloves)
He jumps out from the window. He takes his bicycle and begins to ride. After a while, he ends up in front of a movie theatre.
He looks around and he sees a man walking towards him speculatively.
MAN
Do I know you kid
ADAM
I doubt that (he looks at the man and suddenly feels his hand burining)
MAN
Okay (He walks away)
ADAM
Wait (the man looks back at him)
MAN
What?
ADAM
(Smiling)
You forgot to get out of that body
MAN
(Nervously)
What did you say kid?
He approaches Adam
ADAM
I said, leave that body
MAN
Who the hell are you?
ADAM
Your worst nightmare
The man jumps towards him but Adam punches him away with his right hand sending him passing through a brick wall. Adam looks around to see if anyone’s watching. The man stands up, his eyes looking grey now.
MAN
Good one, but do you really want to harm this body?
Adam stops to think. He realizes he never asked Gabriel
ADAM
I’ll make an exception.
The man attacks again and Adam dodges his every move then Adam punches him a couple of times. The man is tired and begins to run away, Adam follows.
They get to an alley where the man is no longer alone but with three others.
MAN #2
No way, is this the kid that’s giving you so much trouble
MAN
He’s strong, I mean it
MAN#3
I’ll handle him
He moves at super speed and is standing directly in front of Adam. Adam stares at him in the face and notices the color of his eyes, grey like the other.
MAN#3
(Smiling)
Well, well
ADAM
You shouldn’t have come so close
MAN#3
(Smiling)
Oh yeh, why not?
ADAM
(Bends his head)
First of all your mouth stinks
The man stops smiling and scowls
ADAM
Second of all, my right hand (he places it on his chest)… is a menace
The man begins to shout and a hole opens up in the ground. A spirit comes out of the body and enters it. The body of the man falls to the ground while the others look in shock. Adam looks at the man to see if he’s alive and then looks at the other three.
ADAM
Who’s next?
The all yell and jump towards him at the same time and this time the challenge is more for him. He eventually sends two of the spirits back to hell and the first man escapes again
ADAM
(Dryly)
This is getting frustrating.
He runs after him. The man runs and runs until he thinks Adam has lost his trail. He looks back as he is walking to be sure and then bumps into someone, Adam.
Before the man can run again, Adam places his right hand on his forehead causing the same reaction. Adam stands there and looks at the body
ADAM
This feels good.
INT. THOMAS HOSPITAL- NIGHT
A nurse runs to Dr. Thomas’ office
NURSE
Doctor, come quick!
Dr.Thomas runs out and sees four men lying outside of the hospitals. He goes to observe them and sees palm marks on their chests and one on the fore head of one of the men.
THOMAS
Who brought them here?
NURSE
We do not know doctor. It was like they just … appeared here.
Dr. Thomas stares at the nurse and then the men.
Scene switches to the Hannigan residence where he is reading magazine while a man is talking to him
DUNCAN
Sir?
HANNIGAN
Yes Duncan
DUNCAN
We’ve done the research. What your son saw wasn’t a shooting star.
HANNIGAN
(Stops reading)
Then what was it?
DUNCAN
We’re not entirely sure sir. We’ll need to do some more research.
HANNIGAN
Very well, report to me as soon as possible
DUNCAN
Yes sir (he leaves)
Hannigan begins to examine a watch that looks burnt and then drops it in the safe behind one of his paintings.
