Let's have a game of "did you notice at the dinner table"

I'll go first:

Everyone at the dinner table knows of Clark's secret, except Lois.

Hmmm, everyone at the table has killed someone except Martha and Lois.

Did anyone else notice that in the scene with Lana, Chloe was putting the Thanksgiving table setting together that we later see on the table at dinner?

Just thought I'd mention that.

Right! I was racking by brain trying to think of situations were Lois may have possibly killed.

So everyone has killed except Martha, which is the way it should be.

Martha was willing to kill Lexod though. Lana took over for her and failed. Oh well, it's the thought that counts.

Did you notice Chloe's dad was mysteriously not invited? Nor General Lane, but he could be stationed elsewhere by now.

I know. Maybe we should start a "Save Gabe" campaign before we fire up the emails for a "Save Shelby" effort. He's been MIA for a long, long, long time now. I think the last time we actually saw him was in the season three finale, when the safehouse blew up.

Happy Thanksgiving, Gabe!

What was the scene about? Did Lana tell Chloe about the baby?!?

Yes. You see Chloe arranging the setting when there is a knock on the door. She turns and opens the door to reveal Lana. Lana walks into the apartment a few steps then stops.

Chloe: Hey! Are you feeling any better?

Lana: Hanging in there.

Chloe: Make yourself confortable. I did my due diligence on the Second Chances halfway house and I found...

Lana: (turning to Chloe) Chloe, um...I am not here to talk about the halfway house.

Chloe: OK. But there is some stuff I think you should know about, Lana. About Lex.

Lana: I, ah, don't want to hear anything more about Lex. I can't.

Chloe: What's going on? What happened...hey, you know you can tell me anything.

Lana: (visibly upset) Chloe...I am pregnant.

Chloe: OK (as they embrace).

Lana: I need the company of a woman right now.

Chloe: (surprised) I thought...

Lana: I know, it's been a long time, but I just...I need you Chloe.

Chloe: (pulling Lana in for a kiss) It's been too long...I will run a bath and light some candles.

Lana: Yes, candles. Lots of candles.

(Fade to black)

OK, I made everything up after they embrace. The scene fades to commercial after the hug.

Yeah I felt that Lionel accepting the invitation was a little tasteless...hmmm...who knows maybe that means he's still got a little evil in him after all!

Really though, I'm sure with scenes like this one, tptb are trying to get us viewers to accept Lionel as a bad guy turned good just so they can give us yet another parellel to Clark's season 5 "training story" ...I would expect to see Lionel's death this season just to parallel JK's and also expect everything Lex stated he wanted in Lexmas to NOT happen.

Touching dinner scene though, is Lana's aunt dead? where has she been?!

No, he didn't. He looked over and saw Ollie and Nois happy again and was pleased at that. It was not that Nois was what he was most grateful for. She showed many reasons why he might not even want to be around her after her nasty remarks to him yet he helped her and was even happy for her anyway.

We saw Clark accepting his new role and that Thankgsgiving was truly a time for coming together. His smile faded a little when he saw Chloe get the text message though but he tried to hide it and looked away. And yes, Chloe should not have had the cell at the table. It was also interesting and telling that Chloe was placed at the right hand side of Clark and that JO was not physically present. All in all it was a sweet moment and showed us a Clark who is coming to grips with his dad's demise.

I just wish we could have see the Kent T-day dinner when Jonathan was alive. That would have made this even more poignant. Perhaps they could have given us a flashback or had Clark and Martha looking at some old pictures.

Nor would it have hurt to have Chloe earlier saying her dad can't make it and why or haivng her get a message early on before they sat down from him saying where he was. A throwaway line-anything. Little details can be important to fans and they certainly are to me.

I agree it showed that clark is startin to accept his new role in the house.Yes its hard wit JK gone but he's makin the transition, and I agree it would be good to have a flashback/pics etc of when JK was there. And a mention of why gabe wasn't there wouldn't have hurt, but I'm come to realize we may not hear of him again lol

Um. Clark looked at Nois and Nois looked at Ollie looking back at her and they (lolly)smiled at each other - Clark did just help get them back together and he was thankful it worked and then Clark said, "he was most thankful for his mom and dad....."and continued with his nice thanks to them.

Agreed! I was just about to post this myself. It seems a little tasteless to sit them next to each other - you would think that after Martha arranged where everyone was to sit that Clark would whisper a quiet word in her ear...

'Erm, Mom, I know that you want him, but do you not remember the summer before last?...'

Actually, that reminds me - do you think that people in Smallville get nervous in June? Like: 'wonder what crazy thing is going to happen this year...' Meteor showers, tornadoes & Dark Thursday, anyone?

ooo, the whole 'everyone at the table knows clark's secret except lois' is very interesting. they should have just filled her in so we could get some pretty strange dinner table strories before the show ended!

That was definitely something I noticed. I kept waiting to hear what everyone would say (especially since Clark made such a big deal at the beginning of the episode about how Jonathan always made everyone say what they were thankful for). And everyone listens to him and then just blow off the tradition! And he's just smiling.

Also noticed:

-- When the first show the table, the shot zooms in on Clark and Lois is the only other person in the shot. It's just Clark and Lois looking up at him as he stands up. And then they zoom out to show everyone else. Nice bit of foreshadowing for the future.

-- He smiles at Lois when he says what he's thankful for.

-- He smiles at Lois and Oliver & when they kiss, he looks happy and looks away. He looks at Chloe and smiles when he sees how happy she is when she gets the text from Jimmy.

-- It was incredibly weird to see Lionel and Chloe sitting next to each other & grinning at each other. I had no clue how the hell that happened. Were they on crack or did Clark give them a super-roofie mindwipe kiss?

-- Every single person at the table has been or will be thrown into a glass table at some point. :D

Well, I think you're both right. Lois electromassages him while Clark finishes him off. It took their combined efforts to kill him.

It is interesting that everyone at the table except Lois is aware of Clark's secret. Someone else mentioned that. He is so bad at keeping secrets.

The weird thing is: Why is that such a big deal all of the sudden when Chloe had been recieving emails from Lionel in S5 and been in physical contact with him off and on since then?

The only times he had problems with Chloe is when she tried to blackmail him. And since Transference, there has been no clear reason for anyone to think he's the MB he was before he was released.

11-14-2006, 01:27 PM
Just for the record, didn't Lionel NOT try to blow Chloe up? Didn't TPTB just make it look like they did for the end of the season cliffhanger? I thought in Crusade they made it sort of obvious that the police or whoever were trying to hide Chloe and her dad from Lionel so they staged the explosion. That's what I understood from the Lois/Lionel scene in the jail, anyway. Am I completely wrong on this?

*back to your regularly scheduled Thanksgiving dinner conversation*

Yea, it was kinda wierd to seat Lionel and Chloe right next to each other. I mean, whether Lionel tried to blow her up or not they did spend pretty much all of S3 in a battle of wills.

But TPTB were probably just trying to point out how much of a "changed man" Lionel is. Or what a "changed man" everyone thinks he is, anyway.

RedPhoenix23
11-14-2006, 02:09 PM
Lionel hasn't changed, it's a crime that he was actually invited to the Kent's for the first Thanksgiving since JK's death. Lexana should get an invite over Lionel any day of the week. At least Lex hasn't tried to kill any of them! Sans something weird being involved that he doesn't even remember doing anyways. Lionel can't say the same.

Did you notice that MB actually dressed down for Thanksgiving? No suit!:eek: He should have explained that to Lex before he left to the Kents...

Just thought I'd mention that.

I thought she was just making a center piece to bring over to the Kents'.

Chloe sitting next to Lionel seemed wrong to me too. Also, after Clark makes his speech, Ollie is holding the mashed potato bowl and then a split second later, he's holding the biscuit dish. I don't know why that bothered me...

Did you notice that three people sitting at the table had or will die and then be mysteriously resurrected? The other three have been or will be on the very verge of death at least once.

Ollie laid shot and bleeding in "Rage"
Lionel was on the verge of death in "Vortex” and was saved by an operation that left him blind.
Chloe nearly freezes to death in “Arrival” and lays "dead" (“phantom”) at the moment (perhaps she will have to move to the died and resurrected list soon).

Clark shot to death and was resurrected in "mortal"
Lois was stabbed to death and was resurrected in "phantom"
Martha died on the operating table some time in season 2 (“duplicity?”) and was resurrected by the ship.

Lots of death going on around the Thanksgiving table.
