View Full Version : Smallville's been gone since the 100th episode, and this episode reaffirms it

Ah, what could have been after the 100th episode. Lana should still know Clark's secret at this point. I don't care that they aren't together because the writers have made Lana the worst character by far on the show. She has no identity without a man by her side, and since the writers will forget about the school ever opening she will never persue anything anytime soon.
While I think it was lame as hell to have Lex taken over by Zod I do think that the way the Phantom Zone has been portrayed is realistic. However, this episode made that statement null and void. If a Kryptonian is a phantom and their body is gone than if they take over a human on Earth they should be like Zod in Lex. They should have the powers of Clark inside a human body. This whole episode with the Poison Ivy rip-off is just another excuse for a freak of the week.
It's also funny how this season is less about Clark and more about the other characters. Also, if Clark is so lonely go see the world for which he will later save constantly. He might as well get to know his routes. If I were Clark and lonely I would superspeed away for the night.
The writing is also consistently weak, be it the dialogue or the plot. Smallville has been lost a long time ago and continues to go down a path that can only lead to a lame outcome. If the next season is the last than so be it, because this show is already dead.
The only thing remotely good so far about this season is showing that Lois has a thing for superheroes, and can understand. Working on the Lois and Clark dynamic is smart, but with regards to Chloe and Jimmy where can it go? Chloe will have to die or leave.

Jimmy shouldnt even really be on the show since he is supposed to be way younger then Clark and Lois but oh well. Some things change for the show and you just live with it if its entertaining but I agree with you that this episode is terrible.

Also, look at "Sneeze." It use to be when he got a power it was fun and interesting how he used and what made it come on. It's like the writers just said lets go ahead and get it over with so he can have the power. They probably will hardley ever use it in the future.
The funny thing is they can bring Jimmy on, and you're correct about the age thing, but they can't do a 180 and kill off Martha and keep Mr. Kent. He was much better on the show. Martha is terrible. Now when ever she is with Clark she tells him terrible writing about how he's changed and will become a Superman. It's weak. I also still don't know how she would have a Senate seat with Mr. Kent dieing. She is also never in D.C. She is always in Smallville.

I think it has been the best since Reckoning. I mean Clana is finally over Clark has to really step up and TPTB are really adding more of the mythos into the series, which I think is great. The first part of the fifth season didn't have some of the greatest episodes like Thirst and Exposed but overall I liked the 5th season the best out of all of them. So judging the entire margin oof episodes on a few is not really fair. But I can see where your coming from. Like all the drama of the Clana stage and all the mourning kind have drug the show back a bit but it is still a good series.

I used to fervently defend Smallville when I read a statement like this, now I just sadly nod. :\

Don't get me wrong, I do think the 5th season was good. Still, the 2nd Season is the best. We hot heat vision, red krytonite, the beginnings of Jor-El.
"Hidden" is by far one of the best episodes of the shows entire run. Clark dieing, and coming back and acting like a superman. Jor-El and Lionel saving him. It was great.
The whole Jor-El thing has never been explained very well. There's too much left to interpretation. I think his life force is gone because the CW can't afford to use the Fortress set!
Good, yes, but not great. The show is a "C" whereas shows like Lost and even Desperate Housewives are an "A," not necessarily because of the subject matter, but because each charcter is given equal time and each episode ties into the whole. Smallville is far from that.
Also, the acting and writing is subpar.
AJFINN, I know how you feel. The only reason I'm posting is because I used to love the show, and know what it could be and where it could go. I think many of the fans on the forums could have taken the show better places as far as the narrative.
I don't think the people involved look at it from a fan point of view. They look at it as a job. There's no other explanation for the amount of times the characters have switched bodies, been possessed by other beings, or lost there memory. It is a complete cop-out every time.

While I agree that this villian wasn't the most ingenious that the writers have come up with, I thought it was fairly clear that she wasn't Kryptonian (therefore didn't have kryptonian powers). In 'Zod' Raya implyed that different villians from the 29 galaxies were placed in the phantom zone which would insinuate that the PZ has a conglomeration of different alien species. Also the 'poison ivy rip off' did refer to Clark as "you Kryptonians", which would seem to indicate that she is not a kryptonian.

Hydra you may be right, but if that's the case than the show is way out of its expertise. Maybe the show should be on the sci-fi channel where they explore other galaxies. I almost wish you weren't right.

Well personally I don't have a problem with other aliens (besides kryptonians) being in the phantom zone, especially since previous versions of the PZ have shown other species to reside there, but I agree that travelling galaxies seems a bit excessive. That being said we do know that according to Smallville Continuity Kryptonians had come to earth a number of times in the past (dating back to medieval times and beyond) so it's not that far of a stretch to imagine that they ran into a number of other species in that time. Like it or not, space traveling kryptonians have been established in the show.

I believe Martha is a Kansas State Senator. That's different than a U.S. State Senator.
Unfortunately, I have to agree with Crispen Glover. I'm starting to think that Smallville has jumped the shark. I'm not even upset that Lana slept with Lex. Both of them have become boring shells of their original characters.
