What did you think about the costumes the characters wore?

well basing on the trialer of both of oliver as robin hood and his costume of the upgraded green arrow i think they looked pretty good. wont be able to compare everyone else till the episode airs but i bet it would look good.

i like how the costumes look. But like I said in the Wither spoiler theard, I still don't understand how Ollie will be going as Robin Hood and how nobody will be able to figure out he is GA. I mean come on how hard is it to put it together. Easier to see through than glasses I think.

well the green arrow costume on the show atleast gets an upgrade so maybe that explians. but like with superman glasses no glasses and knowing him in smallville people think they would know who he is. comic book characters are written to not notice the obvious.

Oliver definitely 'sized' Lois up well. Got that dress top cut low enough to show off Lois' assets well.

 Well, if he wanted to make sure that Martha's campaign was good enough for his support, he needed to see what he'd be 'working with'.

I did vote for Lois, I thought she looked very pretty. And her date was smokin.

To be honest, with Lex's ego I was expecting a lot more than just Marc Anthony. However, the design of Oliver's costume, as a nod to the classic Green Arrow costume from the Silver Age was dead-on-cahonas accurate. However, I'm glad that they're going to go with a more modern version of it for the series. Lois' Maid Marian costume was awesome and showed off her best...assets in the front. Too bad Martha didn't get dressed up, or that Lionel didn't show. Would've been interesting to see who he'd have gone as.

Best costumes: Lois for female and Lex for male costume. Martha looked great as well. Lana's dress was kind of pretty, but her costume makeup was not attractive.

Lois looked the best out of the ladies, Lex out of the gentlemen. He was supposed to be Marc Antony? I thought he was Alexander the Great...because he was named after him. Plus the costume looked like the one from the movie, "Alexander." Or he might have been Julius Caesar at least...because he's a greater historical figure than Marc Antony, AND was a lover of Cleopatra.

Lana looked good too, but in a very different way from Lois. Lana looked to made-up and...well, costumey (granted, it WAS a costume ball). Lois looked more regal, elegant, and lovely.

Lois looked amazing as always. GA - ehh- he just looked good because he had the hottest date there. I wasn't feeling the tights but they didn't keep flashing to them so it wasn't that hard to endure. Martha looked great. Not sure what she was supposed to be though. Was she dressed as a character in history or literature? I didn't see it. Still one hot Momma though.

Lex looked alright but his chest piece made him look like a budda. It looked a little pot bellied to me. Should have had a sword or something attached to his back or something though. Some kind of weapon. Something dangerous . . . just like him.

I didn't like Lana's head dress at all. Way too cheap for a costume that you know Lex bought just for her.
It should have been a very expensive looking solid gold leaf with gem stones, and she should have been wearing a gold cobra necklace. Her dress could have carried on the gold motif with strips of gold running down to the floor with her dress. Maybe a gold Cobra bracelet that curls around her wrist and sits up like it's ready to strike. Not cheesy, but elegantly crafted.
Classic egyptian eye makup would have done just fine on her.
She didn't have to look she had been sprayed with gallons of tanner.

Perfect costume for Chloe. No one could have possibly thought of a better one. I actually liked Lana's costume in that episode and Chloe's line:

"Excuse me for a moment, but I need to have a word with kitty."
Chloe cracks me up sometimes. Get her and Lois together and the laughs never stop! :D

Lex was Marc Antony and Lana was Cleopatra, not good idea considering how those two turned out.

So does that make Clark Emperor Octavian?

Didn't get much by way of costumes as I had expected. Didn't care for Lex's costume. Lois was nothing to write home about. OQ's was neat and Lana's was a bit elaborate but it worked. I don't think I even saw Martha's.

I said this in an earlier response to somebody else, but basically, yeah, nobody's going to question it. Why would they? He dressed as Robin Hood for a costume ball.

If you were looking to find the Green Arrow's true identity, would you really go to Costume World and look at the invoice of all people who had purchased Robin Hood outfits? The GA costume doesn't resemble the one he wore to the ball except for that they both include a bow (very different ones at that) and the fact that they are both green.

So, basically, yeah. Unless somebody in Smallville has been reading comic books from the real universe, and they know that 30 years ago the Green Arrow wore a costume that looked a lot like OQ's costume ball outfit, nobody's going to think that him dressing as Robin Hood is suspicious. It would be absurd if they did.

Obviously I don't expect people are going to check out invoices. But the people at the ball who talked to him and were close to him would investigate. Especially Lois who is now suddenly a reporter. Martha, Lex, Lana - all of those people would likely find it interesting at the least.

It's just like Lois and Chloe and Lex and Lana and Lionel and Perry should all have some inkling that Clark is Supes in the future. But because the writers don't care aboutthat future, since we're never gonna get there, they really don't care what they do.

wel to me atleast he was unrecognizable in the suit he wore at the ball. If lex can recognize him through that then im not to sure about the next weeks costume where hes jsut wearing glasses and has a good on top of it. thats more easy to tell than the robinhood getup

It's completely different than the Superman/CK thing. Clark Kent looks EXACTLY like Superman. The GA costume does disguise his identity. People close to Clark SHOULD say to themselves, "Hey, Clark looks JUST LIKE Superman." Nobody close to OQ would have ANY plausible reason to say, "Hey, didn't Oliver wear a Robin Hood costume 2 weeks ago? And doesn't the Robin Hood costume look a tiny bit like the Green Arrow costume? I bet there's a link!"

Definitely! I love the subtle nods to the earlier comics (or the comics at all). And wearing a costume that looks like a much earlier incarnation of the GA IS a subtle nod, as it bears very little resemblance to the current one =).

For the guys: Oliver... he looked the most in character. Lex's outfit was more an ego thing... and the suit looked kind of cheap.

Girls: Lana, she looked a little scary at first, but I thin she looked the prettiest. Lois looked good too, but she looked too saintly to me.

Oliver all the way. Lois looked pretty good too. Lex and Lana thought something about them just didn't fit with their costumes especially Lex.

I think the whole costume thing seemed pretty dumb. And the way Lois just connected with Oliver Queen seemed to easy and artificial. Lana's long walk was too lame..Lol....

I voted Martha coz she was plain and simple...Lois looked kinda nice but am not a big Lois fan...

AlwaysAround
10-14-2006, 10:05 AM
It's good that it looked artificial, like it won't last.
We all know that GA is long gone in 5 episodes anyway (two have already been used up), so we don't want it to be that great anyway. It'll make the exit of GA a lot easier. He will leave pretty soon though. That's a definite. So you better not get too attached to the character. Just keep in mind that the show is supposedto be about Clark and his path to being Superman, not Robin Hood, err . . . I mean GA.

I think a relationshp that is too stong between the two, would only serve to water down the future Clois relationship that we know eventually happens. I certainly don't want to see that because I am a huge Clois fan (for every form of Superman media).

and who's Maid Marion?

Lana was Cleopatra, who was once coupled with Caesar, who I believe Lex was supposed to be. Maid Marion (sigh) is Robin Hood's love interest. OQ was supposed to be dressed as Robin Hood, hence Lois calling him Robin, though we all know that his costume purposely looked like the Silver Age Green Arrow. Of course, the whole persona of the Green Arrow was copied from Robin Hood so there you have it.

I said before that the costume of Cleopatra suited Lana, but I take it back! I wasn't paying close attention, I guess!
First of all the costume was awful, a basic white modern dress with a few props, well that's not a costume, that's just an ugly evening gown! Not to boast but my hobby is egyptian culture and history especially the antient time, and the costume was such a offense to anything and everything representing Egypt's and Cleopatra's past;....it was simply awful! And Lana looked weak in it!
She ismply didn't own it, not that there was anything to own where that costume was concerned! A better choice would have been to go as Pocahontas!
Now Cordelia Chase (from Angel) could have pulled of a Cleopatra costume to such an extent that you would have believed that she was an reincarnation of Cleopatra, but Lana........NO WAY!
Secondly, Lex going as Alexander, talk about being a megalomaniac, wow Freud would have had a field day with him! Sorry Lex, but you are no Alexander the Great!
As for Lois and Olliver, well they actually had nice costumes, which suited their personalities very well! I don't say this very offten about Lois, but she looked nice!
As for Lana, well, I am betting that Cleopatra is on her way to haunt her for what she did!

I don't think Lex was going as Alexander the Great. I'm actually pretty sure he was Julius Caesar. That looked like a pretty cheesy knock-off of what a Roman general of the time might have worn, plus Caesar had an affair with Cleopatra.
