Special Effects in ZOD

ya..the effects were good...when Clark landed in Smallville and walked out of the crater..and when Zod was kicking his ass and he fell face first in the field.

Phantom Zone looked amazing too.

I thought the color effect they used for the phantom zone was awesome how everything was pal blue and all you see is clarks Red jacket.. the best effect.

They outdid themselves in this episode. I was amazed at how good Zod was. Episodes like this are like free movies on tv every week.

That WAS pretty sweet and VERY intentional :)

I thought most of the effects were awesome except for the phantoms beating up Clark...that looked REALLY fake :) It just didn't do it for me...

The special effects were on the whole very, very good. Which surprised me considering everyone was going on about the show having budget problems.

The special effects were awesome in this episode. I guess they just ran out of money for Vessel, but Zod was great. I was really impressed with the phantom zone.

When Clark landed in Smallville and walked out of the crater...
That was such a heroic moment, along with him freeing Lionel and Martha in the barn. But the best effect in my opinion was the whole "Red Fortress" with Martha and Jor-El. It looked a whole lot more convincing than in "Solitude".

Also, I know it's off-topic, but did anyone notice how Aeythr intentionally kept her mask on in the Phantom Zone? I presume it was to hide the fact the producers recast her.

So... am I the only one that WASN'T impressed by the special effects?

On the whole they were good, and exceptional for what I usually see on T.V. - that I'll give Smallville. But the Phantoms attacking Clark? C'mon... Has anyone seen the Lucas cut of THX 1138? The "special edition" where he adds in CGI like he did to Star Wars? In the end he adds a scene where THX is running from the cops and gets attacked by mutant monkeys. The scene is hilariously put together as it was never shot with the intention of putting in CGI monkeys (it being made in the 70's and all).

That's precisely what the scene in the Phantom Zone reminded me of. The character interaction between Clark and the Phantoms was just hilarious. I know I can't expect them to be perfect, but Jesus was it laughable.

I think the only high point in the visual effects during "Zod" was the digital matte backgrounds of burning Metropolis. Now THAT was impressive.

The Zod/Clark fight? Mediocre, but could've been handled much worse.

I though that the special effects were outstanding. All the studios use the same type of way to make thier special effects and they know what each other is doing.

In this way they don't have to reinvent the wheel and they use stuff from what all of the other studios and what the FX people have made and done.

Does help cut down on the money and helps the budget on what they would have to be use to make all of these effects.

They were fantastic, I loved the scene when Zod/Lex was choking Lana and then Clark comes, then Zod/Lex charges after him and they go Flying. that was cool

I will never understand why people complain about special effects using comparisons to movies. TV shows are handicapped to start with b/c of budget restrictions.

I for one was quite pleased with all the effects during the episode. The fight scene really blew me away (pun intended:lol: ) The part where Clark comes flying/crashing through the trees into the field was the highlight of the episode for me. The PZ and the phantoms were neat as well.

There isnt a tv show that has done such huge ammounts of absolutely great CGIs in one episode. My favorite scene comes right after his escape from the PZ: walking out of the crater he made by falling from the skies. I think it would've been a really unforgettable moment if they colored his eyes red (heat vision) while he was slowly re-appearing from the dust/blur.
