Clark: “How can I fight something like that?”
Jor-El: “You can’t.”
**********
Jor-El: “It is not an accident that you were sent to this planet, Kal-El. The humans have always had a great capacity for good. But they have always struggled to find direction. In many ways, they are what Krypton was several thousand years ago. But as advanced as Krypton was – technologically and morally, Zod was still able to cast his shadow on our people and bring about the destruction of our race. Think of how much worse his powers would be on this primitive planet.

Editor in Chief: “If we print this he’s going to come after you two. And he will come after you with everything in his arsenal. Are you ready for that?”
**********
Clark: “I know what you want, Lex. It’s not going to happen. Not on my watch.”
Clark then looks at Lana and takes her by the hand.
Clark: “Not on OUR watch.”

OPENING
The scene takes place in the Metropolis Courthouse.
On one side of the courtroom are Lex Luthor and his attorney. Next to Luthor is an assistant. On the other side of the courtroom are the District Attorney and his assistant. Chloe Sullivan and Jimmy Olsen are sitting in the audience.
Luthor Attorney: “Your Honor, I move that the case against my client be dismissed. The district attorney has produced a document which he claims to be an official LuthorCorp document. The fact of the matter is that this was an official LuthorCorp proposal which has been substantially and maliciously altered in order to produce a spectacular but totally false newspaper headline.”
District Attorney: “Objection, your Honor. That’s an outright lie.”
Luthor Attorney: “Your Honor, the burden of proof is with the State not on the defense. Not only that but even if this were an official LuthorCorp document, exactly what crime has been committed? According to the 1st amendment of the Constitution even Adolph Hitler would have the right to publish Mein Kampf without retribution from the State.”
Judge to the District Attorney: “Can the State produce any witnesses to the originality of these documents?”
District Attorney: “Your attorney, counsel is misconstruing…”
Judge to the District Attorney in a more forceful manner: “Can the State produce any witnesses testifying to the originality of these documents?”
The District Attorney responds quietly,
District Attorney: “No, your Honor”
The judge slams down his gavel.
Judge: “Then the State is just wasting my time and the taxpayers’ money. Case dismissed.”
Luthor quietly says to his assistant.
Lex: “This is why I pay these guys the big bucks.”
Lex gets up from his seat. He shakes his attorneys hand and begins to walk out of the courtroom. As he walks out he sees Chloe and Jimmy. He walks up to them and begins speaking in a very quiet voice, first to Chloe.
Lex: “From now on when you think of ‘the rest of your life’, don’t think of it in terms of years or even months.”
He looks Chloe directly in the eye.
Lex: “Count your life by seconds.”
He then looks at Jimmy and then back at Chloe.
Lex: “And his life as well.”

OPENING CREDITS
**********
Act 1 Scene 1
The scene takes place just outside the Metropolis Courthouse. The audience is exiting. Chloe and Jimmy are on the steps of the courthouse. Jimmy is visibly upset over what was said by inside by Luthor. He starts to walk away from Chloe.
Chloe: “Jimmy, where are you going?”
Jimmy does not even turn around. He just continues to walk away.
Chloe: “Jimmy? Jimmy!”
Chloe finally gives up.
Lex Luthor walks down the steps of the courthouse to his limousine. He gets inside. Chloe is watching him. And while she is watching him she notices a taxi cab pull up to the curb. The passenger leaves the cab and walks to Luthor’s limousine. Chloe, thinking it’s strange that a person would leave one vehicle only to get in another vehicle, pulls out a small digital camera and takes the passenger’s picture. He does not know his picture is being taken. The person is around thirty years old, around six feet tall, slim but athletically built. He is wearing a tailor made designer suit. His eyes are dark as is his complexion. His hair is jet black.
He gets in Luthor’s limousine and the car drives away.
**********
Act 1: Scene 2
The scene takes place inside Luthor’s limousine. The passenger and Lex are sitting next to one another. Lex is looking at a report inside a manila folder.
Lex: “Albert Mensa, also known as The Raptor. Real name is Anthony Chetski. Born in Chicago Illinois, to a Polish father and an Italian mother. Wanted by the FBI, Scotland Yard, and Interpol. No photographs or physical descriptions. Whereabouts unknown. Has been active in Bosnia, Afghanistan and the Sudan.”
Mensa: “Obviously Lex Luthor has resources that are not available to those other organizations. Exactly why do you want to speak to me?”
Lex: “I believe we can be of use to each other.”
Mensa: “In what way?”
Lex: “Although the charges against me have been dropped, my plans have suffered a significant amount of damage. The law enforcement agencies of the world are now curious about my operations. I plan to start a major global project requiring vast resources. I require your services in order to initiate some activity in certain countries. The purpose of this activity is to divert attention from LuthorCorp. It is my understanding that the diversion I have in mind is your area of expertise.”
Mensa: “I’m just a recruiter and a facilitator.”
Lex looks at Mensa with a curious expression over his wording.
Mensa: “There are young people all over the world who are willing to be recruited for a cause, any cause. I bring the people and the cause together. And I facilitate whatever action my employer wants to take place.”
Lex: “And do you have a cause, Mr. Mensa?”
Mensa: “My cause is to the Almighty.”
Lex again looks at Mensa with a curious expression.
Mensa: “The Almighty Dollar.”
Lex laughs slightly at Mensa’s response.
Lex: “Well, I can assure you that if you work for me you will be exceedingly blessed by the Almighty.”
Mensa nods his head in understanding.
Mensa: “Exactly what did you have in mind?”
Lex hands him another manila folder. Mensa opens it up and begins reading it. His eyes grow wide as he reads.
Mensa: “This is serious business.”
Lex: “Oh, I’m a very serious man. Do we have an understanding?”
Mensa: “We do.”
Lex: “Good. Can I have my driver take you to the airport?”
Mensa: “Do you really think I use airports to get in your country?”

Act 1: Scene 3
The scene takes place at night. Clark and Lana are sitting together on hill above a highway. The highway runs above a valley. The first camera shot is of the night time sky. The sky is crystal clear and filled with stars. At first we don’t see the couple. We hear Lana’s voice as the camera moves down from the sky to focus on Clark and Lana.
Lana: “Wow!”
We now have a view of the couple sitting with one another. Both are looking up at the night time sky.
Lana: “Clark, when you told me that you were going to take me to the mid-east I thought you meant, like, Ohio. I never thought you meant the actual Middle-East. I’ve never seen so many stars.”
Clark: “It’s easy to understand how three of the great religions were started in this part of the world. When you look up at the night sky you can’t help but think of things bigger than yourself.”
Lana: “Clark, that’s really profound. Did you just think of that?”
Clark: “Actually I read it in your astronomy book.”
Lana: “Have you been snooping through my things.”
Clark: “No! I wasn’t snooping. Your book was there on your desk I just looked in it. I’m a good guy. Remember?”
Lana begins to snuggle up to Clark. She is looking in his eyes.
Lana: “Yes. You are a good guy and I love you, Clark.”
Lana pulls Clark towards her and whispers in his ear.
Lana: “You know even good guys can be naughty.”
They pull together and begin looking at each other, caressing each other’s face. Finally, their lips are drawn together.
They are interrupted by the sound created by an enormous explosion that shakes the ground that they are sitting on. Clark gets down off the hill and onto the highway. He helps Lana get down. They run across the highway to look at the valley below them. There before them is the city of Jerusalem. In the middle of the city is a mosque with a large golden dome. Near the mosque are buildings that are on fire from the explosion. We are hear the sound of sirens throughout the city.
Lana: “Clark, we have to do something!”
Clark picks up Lana and he launches off of the ground and flies towards the scene.
End of Act 1

Act 2: Scene 1
The scene takes place in the area of the explosion. An apartment building is on fire. Across the street are shops that have suffered heavy damage with their windows blown out and the walls buckling. There is chaos everywhere. Ambulances, fire engines and the police are just arriving on the scene. Clark and Lana are part of the crowd. They are moving forward through the crowd to the burning building.
There is a young woman, around Lana’s age. She is holding an infant. She is flanked by her mother and father. They are in distress, crying for help. Lana and Clark come up to them.
Lana: “What is it?”
Young woman: “My husband! He’s in that building! We can’t get to him!”
Hearing this, Clark hands Lana his backpack.
Clark: “Here hold this.”
Lana looks at him with pleading eyes. Even though she knows he’s invulnerable he can never get used to his putting himself in harm’s way.
Clark runs toward the building and into the fire.
Young woman’s father: “What is he doing? Is he mad?”
The crowd watches Clark disappear into the building. There is an eerie silence. Then the entire building collapses. Everyone, including Lana lets out a cry.
Then a voice is heard behind them.
Clark: “Hey.”
Behind the crowd is Clark carrying the young woman’s husband. The husband has been overcome by smoke inhalation. Clark is dirty with smoke and soot. The crowd looks on Clark with astonishment. Lana takes charge of the situation.
Lana: “We need a paramedic here. You.”
She points at the young woman’s mother.
Lana: “Go get some help.”
Clark lays the husband on the ground. His wife kneels down to him. Lana runs to Clark and holds him. She whispers to him.
Lana: “Clark, I know you can’t get hurt. But knowing that doesn’t help what I feel when I see you doing something like that. Are you alright?”
Clark: “I know, Lana. But I just couldn’t just stand there. I’m fine.”
The father approaches Clark.
Father: “How did you do that?”
Clark tries to brush off an explanation.
Clark: “He was right in the front of the building. I just got out in time.”
Paramedics are now on the scene along with an Israeli police officer. The paramedics begin attending to the unconscious husband. Bystanders are speaking to the policeman. The policeman looks at Clark and Lana. He then approaches them.
Policeman: “I’ve been told that you did a very brave thing.”
Clark: “I just happened to be first. I’m sure anyone would have done the same.”
The policeman notices that Clark has an accent that is not native to the country.
Policeman: “You are an American?”
Lana: “Yes, we are.”
Policeman: “Tourists?”
Clark: “Yes, we’re just visiting.”
Policeman: “May I see your passports, please?”
Clark: “Our what?”
Policeman: “Your passports.”
Lana: “Clark, you know our passports. Those papers that you’re suppose to carry on you at all times when you visit a foreign country.”
Clark: “Oh! Oh yeah. Our passports.”
Lana: “Yes, the passports that we left in our hotel room.”
Clark, finally gets it.
Clark: Oh yeah. The passports that we left in our hotel room.”
He turns to the police officer.
Clark: “We left our passports at our hotel room.”
The officer is now suspicious.
Police officer: “And what hotel is that?”
Clark did not expect a follow-up question.
Clark: “Hotel? Our hotel?”
He is now thinking of what hotel could he name that would be familiar in a foreign country.
Clark: “The Holiday Inn.”
Lana looks at him with an incredibly disbelieving look on her face.
The police officer does not believe them.
Police Officer: “I’m afraid I’m going to have to ask you to come with me for questioning.”
Hearing this, the father of the young woman intervenes.
Father: “Aaron, can I speak with you for a minute?”
The two men leave Clark and Lana. Lana turns to Clark.
Lana: “Holiday Inn? Couldn’t you think of something better than the Holiday Inn? We don’t even know if there are Holiday Inns in this country.”
Clark: “I said the first thing that came into my head. I’m not exactly a world renowned traveler.”
The police officer comes back.
Police Officer: “My friend, Aman, tells me that you are staying with him and that your passports are at his house. I have been friends with Aman for many years. If he’s says that you are his friends than that is good enough for me.”
The officer leaves and Aman comes up to the couple.
Aman: “Aaron and I grew up together. We are best friends. He is just doing his duty. My son in law will be fine but he is going to the hospital. Do you have a place to stay?”
Lana and Clark look at one another not knowing how to respond. Lana then answers.
Lana: “Well, we were going to leave for home tonight.”
Aman: “Your flight is tonight?”
Clark and Lana look at one another trying to decide what to do.
Clark: “We can be flexible.”
Aman’s face brightens up at hearing this.
Aman: “Please come to my home and share a meal with my family.”
Clark looks at Lana.
Clark: “What do you think?”
Lana” “I’m really hungry.”
Clark smiles back at Aman.
Clark: “We’d be happy to come to your home.”

Act 2: Scene 2
The scene takes place at the Daily Planet. Chloe has arrived at work and she says to one of her co-workers.
Chloe: “Has anyone seen Jimmy?”
Co-worker: “He didn’t come in this morning.”

Co-worker: “No. Nothing. We tried calling him and couldn’t get an answer.”
Chloe: “Do you have his address?”
**********
Act 2: Scene 3
The scene takes place at the Luthor mansion. Lex is in his main room. Mensa enters the room.
Lex: “I see that CNN was impressed with your work the other night. An explosion near a shine that is sacred to Jews, Christians and Moslems. No group would dare claim responsibility for such an act. Now everyone is blaming everyone else. This is better than I expected. I’m moving some materials to the Middle East tomorrow. I’d like another incident to occur to keep the authorities occupied.”
Mensa: “I have a recruit who will be perfect for what I have in mind.”
Lex hands Mensa a drink and then toasts.
Lex: “La Chaim.”
End of Act 2

Act 3: Scene 1
The scene takes place at Aman’s home. Everyone is seated at a table. It is after dinner. Clark and Lana are sitting next to one another. And some of Aman’s grandchildren are sitting in their laps. The children are quite taken with Clark’s height. Aman is at the head of the table.
Lana: “So you and Aaron have been friends since you were children. Isn’t that unusual since Aaron is an Israeli you are a Palestinian?”
Aman: “Yes, it is unusual. But for some reason we always got along. I guess we both want the same thing.”
Clark: “And what is that?”
Aman: “A better life for our children and our grandchildren. This can only be done if we have peace. Now we have this act of terrorism. Whoever did this dares to desecte the holy shrine.”
Aman sees that Clark and Lana don’t understand what he means.
Aman: “The mosque – the Dome of the Rock. It is sacred to those of the Hebrew faith because it is the place where Abraham made his covenant with God. It is sacred to those of the Christian faith because it is where Jesus preached in the temple. And it is scared to those of the Moslem faith because it is where Mohammed ascended to heaven. Such a terrible act. And what this act has done to my family. Now I don’t know what we are going to do.”
Clark: “What do you mean?”
Aman: “My café was across the street from explosion. My wife and I have run it for over thirty years. It is our livelihood. Now everything is damaged. I don’t know how we are going to rebuild it.”
As he says this, a teenage boy around sixteen years old enters the room. It is Aman’s son, Avi. Aman raises his voice when he sees his young son.
Aman: “I had always hoped that my son would grow up to run the business but he has other things on his mind.”
Avi: “Other things like the suffering of our people.”
Avi looks with hatred at Clark and Lana.
Avi: “These are Americans. Why do you have the friends of our enemy in our house?”
Aman is now angry.
Aman: “These are our guests and you will treat them with respect! And this house has no enemies.”
Avi storms out of the room.
Aman is clearly distressed over his son’s behavior.
Aman: “Avi is young and sees only through the eyes of a young man. He is easily swayed by the words of others. I have lived long enough to learn that violence only brings more violence and death brings more death. My wife and I pray that Avi will live long enough to know what it’s like to see through the eyes of a husband and a father.”

Act 3: Scene 2
The scene is at Jimmy’s apartment. Chloe is outside knocking on his door.
Chloe: “Jimmy! Jimmy, are you in there?”
She hears some stirring inside. She is now banging on the door.
Chloe: “Jimmy! It’s Chloe! Open up!”
The door opens slowly. Jimmy is standing there in a tee shirt and shorts. He is unshaven. From his appearance, it is obvious that he is drunk. Chloe walks past him into the apartment. The place is a mess. There are cans of beer and bottles of liquor on a table.
Chloe: “Jimmy, why didn’t you come to work? You could be fired.”
Jimmy start to laugh while slurring his words.
Jimmy: “Why didn’t I come to work? I could be fired. Luthor is about to fire me from my life and you’re worried about going to work.”
Chloe: “Have you been drinking?”
Jimmy is staggering.
Jimmy: “Just a little bit.”
Chloe looks at all of the bottles and cans.
Jimmy: “Well, maybe more than a little bit. Anyway, what does it matter?”
Chloe: “Where did you get the boos? You’re not old enough to buy this stuff.”
Jimmy: “My good buddy, Perry, got it for me.”
Jimmy sits by himself and starts crying.
Jimmy: “I’m never going to make it to be old enough to buy a beer.”
Chloe tries to clean up Jimmy.
Chloe: “Come on, Jimmy. Get yourself together. I’ll put some coffee on. Luthor’s up to something.”
Jimmy: “He’s up to something. Yeah, he’s up to something! He’s up to having us killed!”
Chloe is now angry.
Chloe: “Well, I’m not going to sit around waiting for it to happen and neither are you.”
Jimmy is still staggering and slurring his words. But now he is looking intensely at Chloe.
Chloe: “What? What is it?”
Jimmy comes up to Chloe. He is exhaling in her face as he is speaking to her. She is repulsed by his breath.
Jimmy: “Chloe Sullivan, did I ever tell you that I think you are hot.”
Chloe is trying to step backwards while Jimmy is leaning forwards. Finally, she is backed up against the wall.”
Jimmy: “I think you are really hot. And you know what I’m going to do.”
Chloe: “No. What are you going to do?”
Jimmy is all smiles.
Jimmy: “I’m going to kiss you. I’m going to kiss you and I promise you that you’re going to like it and then you’re going to kiss me back.”
Jimmy stands there for a moment. He closes his eyes and puckers his lips and he leans forward. He is about to touch Chloe’s lips when he staggers, his knees buckle, and he collapses to the floor. He has passed out.”
Chloe just looks down on him.
Chloe: “So much for promises.”

Lana: “Clark, what are you doing?”
Clark: “Shhh. Go back to sleep. There’s something I have to take care of.”
Lana: “What? What do you have to do this time of night?”
Clark: “Don’t worry about it. It’s nothing dangerous. You’ll see in the morning.”
Clark kisses her and then leaves the room. Lana just shakes her head, not understanding Clark and then turns over and goes back to sleep.
End of Act 3

Act 4: Scene 1
The scene takes place at the Daily Planet. Chloe and Jimmy are walking into the office. Jimmy is cleaned up but he looks worn and tired. A telephone rings and Jimmy grabs his head.
Jimmy: “Does that have to be so loud?”
Chloe looks on Jimmy sympathetically. She hands Jimmy a photograph. It is the photograph that she took of the man entering Luthor’s car.
Chloe: “Have you ever seen this man?”
Jimmy looks at the picture.
Jimmy: “No. But there are about six billion people on this planet that I never met.”
Chloe: “Well neither has anyone else. It doesn’t come up in any database, anywhere. Not a driver’s license. Not a passport. It’s as if this person doesn’t exist. Or it’s as if this person doesn’t want the world to know he exists.”
Jimmy: “Okay, so the guy wants to keep his life a secret. What’s wrong with that?”
Chloe: “Nothing. But why would Lex Luthor want to know someone like that?”
**********
Act 4: Scene 2
The scene takes place on the street where Aman’s café is located. It is morning. Aman and his family along with Clark and Lana are walking down the street towards the café. Aman and his wife are distressed because of the arduous task in front of them of restoring his business.
As they approach the café, a crowd is standing in front of the shop. They join the crowd. All of the debris from the explosion has been cleaned. All of the shops on that were damaged from the explosion have been repaired. Aman looks at his shop. He has new windows and the walls have been reinforced.
Aman: “How could this happen?”
Lana looks at Clark and takes one of his hands and brings it into view to examine. She sees dirt on his hands and grime underneath his fingernails.
She says nothing to him. She doesn’t have to. She motions with her index finger for him to lower his head down to her. Clark does this and Lana kisses him on the cheek. She is holding his hand with both of her hands.
Clark: “What was that for?”
She doesn’t answer. She just smiles at him.
Aman comes up to them.
Aman: “Clark, Lana. Do you know how this could happen?”
Both of them try to look surprised at the question.
Aman notices that Lana is greedily holding Clark’s hand like she never wants to let go. He also notices that she can’t keep herself from smiling at Clark.
Aman walks away smiling.
Aman: “I think that you do.”
Some one then comes up to Aman and whispers in his ear. His face drops and he looks like he is in shock. He goes back to Clark and Lana.
Aman: “It’s Avi. He’s in trouble.”

Aaron: “I can’t do that. You know how we deal with terrorists.”
Aman: “He’s not a terrorist! He’s just a boy who knows nothing of life!”
Aaron: “I’m sorry, my friend. It’s out of my hands.”
Aman and his wife are standing together, holding one another.
Clark and Lana come up to them.
Lana: “How do they deal with terrorists?”
Aman motions his head to the rooftops in the area. Both Clark and Lana look up and see snipers loading their rifles and adjusting their sites. Clark turns to Lana.
Clark: “Stay with Aman and his wife. I’m going inside.”
Lana: “Please be careful. There are children in there.”
Clark bends down and kisses her. She goes back to the distressed couple.

Suddenly, standing before him is Clark.
Clark: “Avi, you don’t want to do this.”
Avi: “How did you get in here?”
Clark: “It doesn’t matter. You don’t want to harm innocent people.”
Avi: “No one is innocent.”
When everyone is dead how are you going to tell which ones are your people and which ones are not? Don’t let someone con you into this?
Avi is starting to hesitate.
Clark: “Avi, look at them. They’re children.”
Avi: “I have no choice!”
Clark: “You always have a choice.”
As soon as he says these words Clark recognizes that Jonathan used to say the same thing. He braces himself and the he begins to move at super-speed. The view is from above as we see Clark shoot towards Avi and rip the vest off of him. Avi: “How did he do that? Why did he do that? Why would he risk his life for people he doesn’t even know?”
Aman looks at his son with tears in his eyes.
Aman: “He did it to give you a chance at life. He did it because he is one of a kind. He did it because he is here for a reason.”
Aman then looks at Lana and nods his head in gratitude and in recognizing that Clark is someone special.

Clark: “I’ve just been thinking about what we’ve just seen and what we’ve just been through.”
Lana: “What’s bothering you, Clark?”
Clark is speaking slowly and somewhat uncomfortably.
Clark: “Lana, do remember when we broke up?”
Lana: “You mean when you broke up with me.”
Clark nods his head in acknowledgement of Lana’s correction.
Clark: “You’re right. It wasn’t one of the smarter things I’ve done. “
He thinks for a moment.
Clark: “I love you. You know that now. Right?”
Lana eases up on him.
Lana: “Clark, I’ve never been surer of anything. What’s wrong?
Clark: “When you has a vision of your parents.”
Lana: “You mean when I was a flat lining junkie.”
Clark: “I wouldn’t put it that way. But now when you think back on it, do you really think that you crossed over and saw them or do you think it was all a hallucination?”
Lana: “I guess I’ll never know the real answer to that. But, yes, I believe I crossed over and saw them. Why?”
Clark: “Because, when I was accidentally injected I saw my dad.”
Lana: “Jonathan?”
Clark: “Yeah. And he said some things that I can’t stop thinking about.”
Lana: “What did he say?”
Clark: “He said that I’m going to affect the lives of many people.”
Lana: “You have. You’ve already affected the lives of many. And one person in particular.”
She leans in and kisses him on the cheek.
Clark: “I know. But he made sound like it was going to be something entirely different. And then he said something else.”
Lana: “What?”
Clark: “He said that I’m going to be symbol of peace.”
Lana is silent. She takes hold of Clark’s hand and leans into him. Then she rests her head on his shoulder.
Clark: “I wonder what he meant by that.”

Chloe: “Has anyone seen Jimmy?”
Co-worker: “He didn’t come in this morning.”

Co-worker: “No. Nothing. We tried calling him and couldn’t get an answer.”
Chloe: “Do you have his address?”
