Has anyone read Conn Iggulden's "Emperor: The Gates of Rome"?

It's the epic story of Julius Caesar and Marcus Brutus. It's actually an entertaining adventure story, set during the last days of the Roman Republic. Any fan of Smallville's Clark and Lex would enjoy seeing how two legendary friends will one day become rivals. And in this book, it's about the most famous emperor of all and the man who will one day kill him - the Ides of March ring a bell?

One friend is tested in the halls of the Senate, the other in battles far from home. And the "love of a girl is a prize both will covet but only one will win". Sound familiar? ;)

It's well-written and the sort of summer reading that you won't easily put down (unless you really don't like historical fiction).

I've already picked up its sequel "The Death of Kings". I'd give it a rating of four Roman centurions out of five, or should I say: IV out of V.

Hail, Caesar!
