Synopsis

The life of Peter Parker is complex – a puzzle that needs solving, full of intrigue, politics, love, misery, and growth. The thin strands of a seamlessly larger picture develop into a web of entanglement when one fateful day Peter is bitten by a genetically engendered spider that has been developed for unknown reasons.

With comparisons to the hit TV show, Smallville – Web of Spider-man will target from early teens to late twenties – a fact echoed by the life of Peter. Each week we will go further into the life of Peter as he discovers his powers and struggles to realise them fully. Web of Spider-man is about connections and each week the connections to Peter, Spider-man, and a real world of Marvels will come to life.

Much darker in style and tone to other similar shows – Web will be intense, and complement the films but not take place within it, instead this will have the comic, Ultimate Spider-man as a ground point to start from – though going even more to the extreme.

Ext: Somewhere over the Pacific Ocean/Night/Moonlight – stars are visible
[Open on view of a private plane flying over water – an island can be seen on the horizon.]

Flying over sea – the weathers rough and black clouds look to harbour a storm – the island of Latveria is in the distance and the pilot is having trouble sending or receiving radio signals.

Ext/Int: Midday/America – Queens, New York
[Pan around New York and close in on a typical house in Queens]

Meanwhile a nanny looks after a young baby by the name of Peter Parker – while they watch the news at home in New York.

Reporter: [On TV] This is News 24 – in a few hours time the last of the guests will arrive by private jet, and will be given accommodation in the great castle behind me that is the central feature in this small island. Some of the most well-known professors and doctors who are specialists in varying levels and fields of research have been invited to what’s being called the most significant scientific event in years.

It’s not quite understood exactly what they will do during there stay but latest rumours suggest Dr. Von Kismet, who is the heir of Latveria – wishes to involve the worlds greatest minds in a top secret experiment.

But we can only… [Switches in view between the TV and the Nanny with Peter] Reporter can be heard as background noise (…guess as to …)

Nanny: [TV] (…Pictured here are a few of…) Look Peter there’s a picture of your dad and mom – [TV] (…Richard Parker – pictured with his wife Mary – is a specialist in genetics…) – it won’t be long now, they’ll soon be landed safe and sound then it’s beddy bies for you young man.

[On the plane] Richard Parker looks outside to see the storm. His wife Mary puts a hand on his that’s clutching onto his chair rest.

Mary: Don’t worry dear – you’ll be fine.

Richard: I’m just not sure about all this – I mean why did they make me bring you, what’s really going on here?

Mary: I can’t say – there’s a lot at stake, even we… I… wasn’t given all the details but I feel it’s something big.

Richard: Well I knew that – I mean Stark is going to this thing, and Banner, even Richards.

Mary: I know that, but it’s bigger than any of them…or us.

Richard: What?

Mary: I don’t know – I just feel it.

Richard: I feel it too – but I’m not sure what it means, it’s like a tingling inside my head…

Mary: You don’t think we will come out of this, do you?

Richard: I’m not sure we’ll even make it there!

Richard points out to the storm that’s now right on top of the plane.

Mary: But what about Peter…

The plane begins to sake violently – as the planes intercom comes on.

Intercom: This is your pilot speaking, please take your seats and fasten your seat belts tightly – we may experience a little turbul…
Just then, the plane is struck by lightning, hitting the left wing as the engine erupts in flames.

Intercom: Please don’t panic… a-and take the crash position…h-hold on tight!

Richard and Mary look at each other deeply and lovingly. They hold hands tightly and take the crash position – other people on the plane do the same we hear some crying and panicking, some in deep embrace.

[We go to cockpit view] Pilot 1: Control tower do you read…we have been hit and need to take emergency procedures…please direct to the nearest landing strip!

Nothing but white noise crackles in return.
Pilot 2: We’re going to have to come in hot! – d-do you think we can keep her together?

Pilot 1: We have to try! ... Hold on!

The plane takes a dramatic dip – as they head towards the island bay, coming in too quickly the plane lifts up trying to steady its fall, but the resulting turbulence shakes off the most of the right wing – plunging it into the bay rocks…!

…The plane crashes on jagged rocks near the islands bay. Instantly erupting in an explosion – sending flaming parts of the plane down to the main city of the island.

As the shocked TV reporter looks on – the camera filming everything, everyone watching sees what happens clearly – including young Peter and his Nanny.

[Show lots of different people watching, in person and on TV, including a younger Aunt May and Uncle Ben]

[Opening Credits]
Act 1 Scene 1
Int: Morning/Day/America – Queens, New York
We’re in the same house we seen the Nanny with young Peter in though now it looks much older and lived in than before.

[13 years later…]
We see a small skinny spectacled boy in his early teens; Peter Parker – looks dishevelled and semi-interesting, but not total geek – having breakfast with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben.

Peter is eating cereal and is deeply absorbed in a book whilst writing notes, plus he has earphones in listing to music – that can be heard slightly.

Aunt May: Peter can’t you eat your breakfast normally?

[Switches to Peter] – we hear the music Peter is listing to, and see the book he’s reading, and the notes he writing – all in sharp focus everything else is blurred and faraway.
We hear a droning sound that sounds something like a voice talking but we can’t really make out what it’s saying.

[switch back to Aunt May.]
Aunt May: Peter, PETER! – It would be nice to have a real conversation for once!

Still no reaction from Peter.
Uncle Ben, who was trying to read the morning paper in piece has had enough, stands up, pulls Peters earphones off, and tears away his book, slamming it hard on the note pad.

Uncle Ben: PETER – your aunt was talking to you.

Peter: Wha… [A horn beeps – the school bus – Peter looks at his watch, and takes a gulp of the orange juice that was untouched] …sorry gotta go!

Peter grabs his bag, shoves the book and the notes in – begins to run out but quickly turns back as if he forgot something and gives his aunt a quick kiss on the cheek, looks at a bemused Ben and runs off.

Aunt May: [Smiling] just like his father, always in a rush and doing several things at once.

Uncle Ben: Well I don’t remember raising such an ill-mannered boy.

Aunt May: [Laughs] Well, you and Richard never did see eye to eye and anyway you’re just jealous because you never got a kiss.

Uncle Ben: [Slumps back down on the chair and reads his paper again (though it’s upside down)] Humph!

Aunt May gives out another giggle, pulls down the paper and gives Ben a big kiss on the lips – Uncle Ben, turns the paper the right way round and relaxes more - behind the paper that he’s hiding his face with he lets out a sly smirk.

Act 1 Scene 2

Int: Morning/Day/Queens -Midtown High School
Peter is making his way through the usual hustle of students that have collected around the main hall where the lockers are, Peter spies Mary Jane who is one of the more popular girls at school, but has more wit about her than the typical attractive girl – Peter naturally thinks highly of her but finds himself unusually flustered around her.

She is chatting to some of her class mates who are forced away by a group of jocks – just as Peter discovers he’s not the only guy to notice her – school hero, team leader, and all round jock, Eugene “Flash” Thompson is pulling the moves but so far is getting nowhere.

Flash: [His right arm is outstretched with his hand resting on a locker – with his weight pulling to the left, he uses his left arm and hand to pin Mary Jane] Come on Mary, why don’t you come with me to the dance next week?

Mary Jane: [Keeps pulling away and slapping his hand away that keeps reaching for her] I don’t date outside my own species!

Flash: I know you can’t be not wanting a date with the FLASH!

Peter without fully thinking things through because of his hate for Flash, decides to help Mary.
Peter: Can’t you see she’s not interested in a single cell organism!

Flash: Wow! Look at this – Peter Parker super stud to the rescue!
Flash turns his attention to Peter – and slams him into a nearby locker, banging Peters head in the process. Flash holds peter against the locker with one hand and readies to punch him with the other.

The other jocks stand further down the hall watching – and egging on Flash.
Just before Flash deals out the punch Mary Jane runs up and slaps him hard on the face.

Flash: T-that hurt!
Flash grabs Mary Jane, and try’s to kiss her but she keeps pulling away.
Flash: You’re a feisty one all right, but don’t worry I like it rough!

Mary Jane: [Pulling away in disgust] Get off me you creep!

Flash: All I want is one little kiss.

Mary Jane: Kiss this! [Knees Flash where it hurts]

Just then a teacher comes out a near by hall.
Teacher: what’s going on here?

Peter/Flash: Nothing!

Teacher: Then get to your classes it’s almost time.
Just as he finishes his sentence, the bell goes.

Teacher: Off you go, go on.

The Flash re-joins group as they walk off he gives Peter a piercing glare as they depart and go there separate ways into there classes, Mary Jane stays still but watches Peter though he has no idea.

Act 1 Scene 3
Int: Day/Midtown High School - Class
In chemistry class with teacher and good friend of Peter, Dr. Curt Connors – studies the effects of chemicals on living tissue – the students have been assigned to read picked out notes of there own from a book by another doctor, Dr. Theodore Otto Octaves – the work we saw Peter doing earlier was in fact extra work using another book written by Connors.

Connors: Good morning, class – now today we will be doing some practical work on chemicals and there effects on tissue matter [class cheer]. But before that we have some revising [class groan – except Peter] – I believe you all have books [class take out the book – Peter takes out two plus some notes] if you can all turn to page 10 chapter 8 – and we’ll see what points you picked up on first.

Now who can tell me the effect of radioactive materials on tissue matter? – Anyone? – Peter.

Peter: According to Dr. Octaves, the effect would usually cause a mass deterioration – but other sources say that depending on the levels used and the subject matter there could be no decline and in fact may even have a positive effect.

Connors: Very good – I see you’ve been reading other work on the subject, may I ask who’s?

Peter: [Coyly Peter lifts up the other book – but is trying not to be heard by classmates] Err – it’s by [fake cough] y-o-u.

Connors: [Sees his name on the book] Oh – I see, well good work – now then since I see no one else has bothered to study we might as well get on with the practical. [Class cheer loudly]

Act 1 Scene 4
Ext: Day/New York/Long Island – Ozzcorp, Osborn Industries
Wide shot of the main facility – we see a giant laboratory; scientists are working on various mammals, reptiles, insects, ect. Most are confined areas and have protective clothing on – two businessmen are walking through the complex with the head scientist on tow and looking at the work being done through the sealed compartments – they come to an area that’s called section 5.

Scientist: I’m sorry gentlemen but this is the end of the ride – I’m afraid it’s much too dangerous beyond this point.
The taller of the businessmen is Norman Osborn – owner of Osborn Industries.

Osborn: You do realise it’s I who pays your wage every week? Are you trying to tell me I can’t see how MY project is going in my OWN building!

Scientist: Oh! I’m so s-sorry Mr. Osborn; I wasn’t told you’d be visiting; I would have made sure everything was prepared for you! We’ve never been formally introduced; I’m the head of the department, Dr. Stanley Seiko.

Osborn: [shakes hands with Dr. Seiko roughly] Good – now I’m glad I never told anyone I was coming – didn’t I tell you Justin? – I want to see what’s really going on not what you want me to think.

This is my business executive – I shall be going away soon and he will take care of everything here while I’m gone I want the same level of clearance I’d expect for myself, got it?

Dr. Seiko: [rubbing the hand he was shook with]O-of course Mr. Osborn as you wish – now I’ll take you into sector five, but we must put on the protective clothing it’ll only take a few minutes and then we’ll get going.

Osborn: We’ll be fine – I haven’t got time to dawdle – now come along!

Norman’s executive, Justin looks to the area where the protective clothing is and continues on warily – Dr. Seiko was about to lift up the suits but sees Osborn and Justin have gone on and rushes on with just an unzipped jacket he quickly pulled on.

Dr. Seiko: As you can see this area has the most suffocated technology, it is all very delicate and measures different levels within the subjects – so I’d ask you not touch…

Norman is playing around with a machine and turning its dials as with no care as to what happens.
Dr. Seiko: Please Mr. Osborn what was I just saying – you could put back our research by months!

Osborn: I think you’ll find I just improved how that machine analyses its data.

Dr. Seiko runs back to the machine and looks surprised – he looks around if he wants to recheck all his findings in that area but returns to where Osborn and Justin are.

Dr. Seiko: Ah! This area is the most interesting – we’ve found for some unknown reason insects have the most developed result – especially arachnids.

Justin: Y-you mean s-spiders. I have a c-chronic fear of s-spiders.

Osborn: Well Justin in our line of business you’ll have to deal with all sort of problems – fear is just a problem you’re going to have to deal with. I’ve learnt to control fear, and instead be the thing others dread.
Anyway, Doctor, spiders are not insects.

Dr. Seiko: Of course. I knew that!

Osborn looks into the transparent cage that holds the spider.
Osborn: What species of spider is this – I don’t recognise it.

Dr. Seiko: Well this spider is actually been specially breaded from several different spiders using your formula – what we have here is a new species of spider that’s especially developed in all areas – it’s blood and venom have large amounts of the serum infused in its system – in short gentlemen this is the serums effect on the genetic level.

Osborn: So its DNA has the same compound of that of the serum.
Dr. Seiko: Exactly!

Osborn: Amazing!
Justin: Err? Did I just miss something – I have no idea what’s going on here.

Osborn: Well Justin you do have a right to know – I’ve developed a serum that basically enhances every element of a subject’s physical matter.

Justin: [under breath - that clears everything up!] What kind of serum is it?

Osborn: Well it a composite serum that’s usually injected directly into the subject, but what you’re looking at here is a brand new species that has the serum already in its system – in fact, it’s built in, therefore, there’s no need for an injection.

The main part of the serums from an experimental drug that was used during the war – but how we acquired it, and so forth is top-secret information – now can we get a closer look at this spider Dr.?

Act 1 Scene 5

It’s lunchtime for Midtown High School and students are waiting in line for food, sitting at a table with lunches, or just chatting with friends – all the teachers sit at the end of the cafeteria with meals that all look much better than anything getting served to the students.

There seem to be “zones” for each “type” of student – middle ground is for the “blenders” who are the normal variety of students. Top end is for the “ringleaders” who are cheerleaders, jocks and anyone that’s popular. Bottom end nearest the teachers are the “losers” who are social rejects, geeks, or snitches.

Peter normally sits halfway between middle ground and bottom end, but today sits at the halfway point of top end and middle ground.
Peter can see Mary Jane sitting with the cheerleaders chatting and giggling – he dreams of going up and sitting with her but unknown to him, he’s being watched by two other people the first is Flash Thompson the other is the rebellious Gwen Stacy.

Gwen: [talking to a female friend on the popular end] Hey! Who’s the cutie? [Pointing to Peter who’s got a hand on his head looking dreamily at Mary Jane]

Friend: Are you serous? Isn’t that Peter Parker? He’s a bit of a geek.

Gwen: Well he doesn’t look that geeky to me – plus he’s got potential.

Friend: Yea! Potentially a super geek supreme! [Laughs]

Gwen stands up and takes her tray of food to where Peters sitting – all to Peters complete astonishment.

Peter: Um…H-Hi?

Gwen: Hey there – your Peter Parker right.

Peter: Yea, that’s me. Can I help?

Gwen: Nope – nothing you can do for me, I’m stuck this way!

Peter: [Smiles] No that’s not what I meant … I mean you could have something wrong… not that I think you do… but I…um…can I start again?

Gwen: [Laughs] sure thing sweetie!

Peter: [Flushes] Well, um, hi, what’s your name?

Gwen: I’m Gwen Stacy – so what were you up to here before I interrupted.

Peter: Nothing much, just thinking.

Gwen: Ah, I see – so Mary Jane over there just happened to be in your line of sight.

Peter: [Swallows and blushes] Well – I was just wondering how a guy like me could ever go out with a girl like her.

Gwen: How hard can it be go up and ask!! But you know there might be other girls around who will be more interesting than plain Jane there.

Just at that, Flash comes up to the table Peter and Gwen are sitting at.
Flash: Hey Parker – what are you doing at my end, shouldn’t you be up with all the other FREAKS UP THERE! [Flash gets the attention of the teachers and students]

Peter is about to stand up and protest, but Gwen puts a hand on his shoulder and stands up instead.
Gwen: As much as I’d, love to see a pointlessly unadulterated clash of testosterones – I don’t think this is the time or the place boys. [Points to two teachers who are now heading up to investigate]

Flash: [Pointing to Peter] tomorrow – after school – at the bike sheds. Be there!

Flash walks away, just as the teachers come up – and point Peter back to his normal seating place – waving goodbye to Gwen, and eats the rest of his lunch in peace.

Back in class – Peter and Mary Jane are in History, with teacher Martha Robertson.

Mrs. Robertson: Hello class, for this semester we will be focusing on mythology and its historical effects on modern beliefs – this month we will be looking into Greek myths, some of the most well known myths come from the Greeks and even today there are people of believe in them and worship the gods of Olympia as they did then.

Now who can tell me about Arache? – Anyone? – Mary.

Mary Jane: Arachne was said to be a spinster – a mortal woman – who was so good, that she was in fact the best, and not just on Earth, but on Olympia too.

Mrs. Robertson: Correct – go on.

Mary Jane: Well as you can imagine Athena – who happened to be a spinster too – was a goddess of Olympia, and as such was displeased that a mere mortal was better than her – and came down and destroyed all of the creations Arachne had ever made.

When the mortal women saw she had displeased the gods who she worshiped and adored – she knew that they would never allow her to create anything again and as it was all she knew and loved decided to hang herself as so to rid the world of her ungodly talent.

Mrs. Robertson: Very good Miss Watson. But it didn’t end there oh no – Athena saw this poor mortal woman kill her self out of her pure adoration of the gods and took pity and so touched her forehead with magic liquid and said; “You shall not die, Arachne. Instead you shall be transformed and allowed to weave your creations.”

At Athena’s words, Arachne shrank and blackened. First, her nose and ears fell off, then her arms and legs, and then her fingers, eight of which turned into thin legs – what was left of her became her body, out of which came the liquid she now used to spin and so create her intricate web forever.

Act 1 Scene 6
Meanwhile in Osborn Industries – Norman Osborn, his associate Justin, and Dr. Stanley Seiko are in a smaller containment room where more detailed research is done on subjects – the subject now being the strange new species of spider that’s the result of Osborn mysterious research.

Dr. Seiko: [working on a computer, and bringing up data – all the time speaking to Osborn and Justin but looking at the screen] Bringing up results of Oz experiment S6 subject A No. 00.

We have been looking over this spider since its creation – it’s a fascinating specimen – intelligence, speed, agility, and strength all are much more advanced than any other species of spider.

So far, resistance levels peak way beyond even that of larger mammals; soon we’ll go into testing its resistance to more raw materials.

Osborn: All very interesting – but what I want to know is why I wasn’t told about this sooner?

Dr. Seiko: Um – well we didn’t want to raise any hopes quite yet until we can gather more data on t…

Osborn: It looks to me you know more than enough now – I think we can begin preparing for level 8 testing.

Dr. Seiko: WHAT! Testing on humans? You can’t be seriously considering that – the results on mammals isn’t complete, there’s several levels to work through before we can even begin to think about human testing.

Plus, we were going to tell you all about this subject, and get your clearance to begin testing mammals with the spiders blood and venom, comparing the results with the Oz might hold the answers we’ve been looking for.

Osborn: So you were finally going to tell me so you could start testing it against the Oz serum – well I think we both know that would be a waste of my money and your time, I’m already under pressure to get results, and this is the break I’ve been waiting for.
Now I’d like to hold the spider if that’s all right with you Dr.

Dr. Seiko: Impossible! I cannot possibly let it out, this area is not as secure as the protective cage – plus there’s a good chance it’ll try to bite you.

There’s one negative result I wasn’t willing to tell you but you’ve forced me into it – it seems the Oz serum has an unexpected side effect, though it’s hard to tell we think the subconscious instincts are enhanced – creating a ruthless and unemotional creature – who knows how that being part of a creatures genetics might affect it.

Osborn: That’s perfect news – you don’t see the big picture of what we’re trying to do here, and I don’t have time to explain it to you – just rest assured the Oz serum is doing what it was made to do – and these side affects is the final key, soon as we can start human testing we will know the serum works.
Now pass me some protective gloves so I can handle the spider safely.

Dr. Stanley Seiko passes gloves (that were partly hanging out from a pocket of his protective jacket) to Norman who puts them on.

Dr. Stanley Seiko presses a button that opens part of the top section of the cage – Norman reaches in and pulls out the spider – it is black apart from red stripes that run across its body, and its eyes glaze of an unnatural intelligence.

Norman turns around to let Dr. Seiko and Justin see it but they have both backed away Justin is kneeling down at a faraway corner sweat pouring from him in fear – Norman lets the spider crawl from one hand to the other, Norman smiles as he thinks it knows he’s master, but just as he’s about to put it back in the cage – the spider jumps unnaturally high for a wall and quickly scuttles up the wall and into an air vent.

All three men look up at the air vent then to each other unsure what to do.

Justin: Please tell me you have safety seals in the air vents!

Dr. Seiko: I’m afraid not – there was never a need to – these air vents run throughout most the building, we’ll have to put out a warning – god knows what will happen if that spider mates.

Osborn: Don’t put out that warning yet – we must find it before it has the chance to escape!

[Fade Out.]

Act 2 Scene 1

Back at Osborn Industries, Norman is in his office on the top level of the complex and who is VERY protective and secretive of any pet project has sealed any air vent leading outside – and is going over all areas with security cameras that trace heat and movement, all this is inside a secret room.

We see Justin rushing into a bathroom, looking very ill – the Dr. rushing around, getting others as he goes – and every other area, one area on another floor we see has its own project headed by one Dr. Connors.

A lone helper works in the lab –puts on a radioactive protected suit – the lab is split in two main sections the testing area using different materials on radioactive waves of varying intensity and the analysis area that doubles as an office space to collect info.

We see through the multiple eyes of the spider quickly dashing along the air vents looking for a way out – it crawls along a few dead ends, but always heads in the general direction of up before finally coming to the analysis area of the lab – just as the helper walks past the air vent, the spider jumps down as the helper puts on the hood.

Landing on the hood and shunts down to the shoulder of the helper who incautiously wipes away the spider without realising, it falls down to the helpers back, but stops with help from its webbing and finds purchase on the slick suit.

Schools out for Midtown High – but Peter hangs back waiting on someone, who at first might be Mary Jane as he sees her and looks as though he wants to go up to her, but then is distracted by Gwen.

Gwen: Hey, just thought I’d say cheerio – but before I go I wanted to tell you I wanted to invite you to a party I’m having – it’s an alternative to the school disco next week.

Peter: Um – sure, it’s not like I’m busy.

Gwen: Great I’ll send you an invite – but here’s my number if you want to get in touch before then. [Scribbles her number down a note pad a tears it off giving it to Peter]

Peter: Thanks! See you soon.

Gwen: Hope so, don’t be a stranger – see ya!

Peter: Ok…bye.

Gwen walks away leaving Peter breathless – looking back to were Mary Jane was whose nowhere in sight – just then Dr. Curt Connors taps Peter on the shoulder.

Connors: I heard about the outbreak at lunch, anything I can do?
[Connors likes to eat alone – and wasn’t at the table]

Peter: I’m fine; I’ll take care of it.

Connors: You still up for that tour of Ozzcorp – I can show you the work I’m doing in my lab.

Peter: Of course – why not.

Act 2 Scene 2
Peter is in the car with Dr. Connors that’s coming up to Ozzcorp, and goes up to park near the entrance.

They get out and as they go through the reception area Dr. Connors is asked for his security pass – that’s clipped on a white lap coat he’s wearing, while Peter wears a day pass around his neck – they both get padded down by security then asked for anything metallic to be taken off and put on a tray before passing through metal detectors. [Dr. Connors puts down a pen, watch, and mobile phone that all look expensive – Peter puts down an average looking watch.]

They’re given back there possessions and they go towards the elevators and Dr. Connors presses the call button – the elevator door opens and they get in – the elevator is larger than normal and looks quite heavy-duty, there’s a thin metal arm around the three sides, an alarm, emergency phone and medical kit are all contained in a left side compartment [clearly marked notices let you know what’s inside.]

On the right side, there is the lift level controls on it are; an emergency stop button, the ground level that’s labelled G. [where they got in] three levels going up numbered 1.1 to 1.3 and eight levels going down numbered 0.1 to 0.8.

Dr. Connors presses for 0.3 [Peters pass restricts him from going higher than 1.1 or lower than 0.4.] The lift door closes and begins to go down.

Connors: As you can see there’s more of Ozzcorp under us than there is above – the top floors are mostly all just office space and basically act as a ruse for where the real work takes place – past down level 6 even I don’t know what goes on but you can get a good idea as to the kind of work that goes on from the previous levels.

Peter: Such as?

Connors: Since 1978 Ozzcorp, otherwise known as Osborn Industries has been dedicated to providing innovative materials for manufacturing, construction, chemical processing and numerous other global industries. Ozzcorp are a leading global manufacturer, Norman Osborn operates about one hundred and ten major design and manufacturing facilities and seven research and development facilities worldwide – but this one is his head of operations.

Peter: Then why all the security?

Connors: Well naturally, Osborn is highly protective of any work that goes on, as with any business corporate spies are sent in all the time and attempt to steal any plans for new materials or actual product samples that might be worthwhile to rivals.

But beyond that I’ve come to believe there’s a lot more going on here that most likely only the very top know about – for one fact I’ve learnt is produce for chemically engineered products has gone up seven fold in the last month. However, for what exact purpose I cannot even begin or dare to guess at.

The lift stops and the doors open – there they go down a hall that has labs every so often on either side until they stop and come to a halt at a lab with Dr. Curt Connors; Raw Force Specialist, on the door.

Peter: Raw Force?

Connors: A fancy way of saying radioactive without alarming everyone.
Peter suddenly looks quite worried.

Connors: You see your reaction is why we don’t put it down – now don’t worry it is my area in speciality after all.

As they go in, we see the helper run toward Dr. Connors – panic stricken all over his face.
Helper: [Holding Dr. Connors by the shoulders and shaken him as if to waken him] something was in there…w-with me, w-when I was testing the c-chemical formula to the r-radio-waves!

Connors: [Looking into the testing area] what kind of something?

Helper: [Looking deeply troubled] I’m not sure – it was quite small but it moved too fast for me to see it properly – I’ve no idea how it got in there.

Connors: Are you sure, it’s still in there?

Helper: [Looks around desperately] I-I’m not certain.

Connors: [Dr. Connors presses his face up to the protective glass and looks around the test area] Well I cannot see it, whatever it is – I doubt it got past the antibacterial spray zone.

[Goes over a double door area that is sealed on both sides, the suits hang up on a rack and there’s a shower at the top to disinfect anyone before they come out.]

Connors presses the button to open the first door – as he does he sees the spider jump out and ducks to avoid it – the spider runs along the side wall towards the exit and to Peter – the spider makes a giant leap towards Peter as he puts out his right hand covering his face and try’s to avoid it but it grabs onto his hand.

Peter: [As the spider takes a great bite into Peter it injects its venom] AAARRRH!!

Peter begins to faint and lose consciousness, as he stagers he pulls down the office files that were to the side of him – the spider tries to crawl away – Peter brings down the files and everything else with him as he falls – the files and everything else crush the spider, killing it instantly, as Peter loses consciousness completely, everything goes blank.

Act 2 Scene 3

Peter wakes up with Osborn over him – he’s in a sealed observation room.

Osborn: Your going to be fine – don’t worry about a thing – you just had a small accident.

Peter: Where am I – what happed to Dr. Connors?

Osborn: We’re just checking you over – making sure there are no injuries or any other complications. Dr. Connors was very concerned about you and wanted to take you to a hospital, but I intervened since we have so many fine doctors here and we have the facilities also.

Peter: what was that…thing – it b-bit me.

Osborn: Oh – that, it was one of our test subjects that somehow managed to escape its containment. As to the attack, were confident that you will make a swift and painless recovery, and don’t worry Ozzcorp will reimburse you for any treatment and distress this incident may have caused.

Peter: Um…fine. Can I go now?

Osborn: Sure, your free to go at any time – Dr. Connors will take you home.

[Peter is back in the car with Dr. Connors that’s going to Peters home.]

Dr. Connors: That was some scare you gave us back at the lab – are you sure I can’t take you to a hospital?

Peter: [Weak]… I-I don’t – f-feel up…to it. [Under breath] I just want to go back home and sleep.

Dr. Connors: Are you sure? Just because Osborn paid you off isn’t reason to forego your health.

Peter: [Assuring] yes – please – I’m fine, I just need some rest.

Act 2 Scene 4
[We see the bold sign, Ozzcorp – Osborn Industries]
Osborn is back in his office, the remains of subject A No. 00 – the spider that bit Peter, is in a clear container. He looks over the collected data for the serum and the spider comparing notes – the computer that holds the info seems to be doing the same and we can see it’s processing the data in order to find the next logical step.

Suddenly it beeps and new info appears showing a diagram of a human and data to show the effects of the serum would have – the diagram changes slightly and markers point to the most prominent changes – a second diagram shows a drastic change and there are pointers all over it showing changes for what we can only assume is the effect of the spiders venom.

None of this seems to surprise Norman and he give a slight smirk to himself – he types a password into the computer it opens up info for level 8 testing – the computer tells Norman he has insufficient components to produce a test for a human subject.
Back at Connors lab, the Dr. is looking through a microscope while moving a thin shard with a green liquid in the centre, and adjusting the microscope.

Helper: What is that you’re looking at?

Connors: its small remains of that spider blood I managed to collect before, Osborn’s men came in and cleaned out what was left of its body.

Helper: So what was that thing? It wasn’t like any spider I’ve ever seen!

Connors: It certainly seems remarkable, by the looks of the blood its immune system was unusually high – that’s how it survived the containment room, but it looks as it was slowly degenerating and most likely why it bit Parker. Also I would conclude it was one of Osborn’s experiments – it has his fingerprints all over it, plus the reason he had his men clear away all the evidence.

Helper: We’ll probably be told to keep quiet about this – no doubt it’ll cost us our jobs if we say anything.

Connors: I’m sure your completely correct, but I owe it to Peter – he’s not just a student, he’s a friend…and so was his father…!

Act 2 Scene 5

[30 minutes previously]
Back in Queens, a car comes to a halt at Aunt May and Uncle Ben’s house – Dr. Connors comes out the drivers’ side, goes around the car and opens the other door and helps Peter out – who is now looking very white and sick.

Connors holds Peter up by one side, with an arm warped around Peter’s shoulder for support, walks towards the door and rings the bell.

[Foot steps – front door opens, with latch]
[Peeking through the gap of the door, her eyes instantly go to Peter who’s head is slouched down and is looking sweaty]
Aunt May: Oooah – Peter!!!

[Door is closed, and latch is hurriedly taken off]
[Talking to Peter] Aunt May: PETER! W hat happened here???

Connors: He had a bit of an accident, may I take him in?

Aunt May is taken aback as if she didn’t even notice Dr. Connors.
Aunt May: Eh? Um…of course, come in come in!

Connors places Peter on the sofa, and sits down on a near by chair.
Connors: Peter I’m afraid had been the unlucky victim of a spider bite – now he been give some anti-venom and other medication, but it looks as though he’s got a fever – the best thing for him is to rest until he regains his strength again.

Aunt May: Your Peter’s teacher – from school, science is it, Mr…?
Connors: Dr. Curtis Connor, but you can call me Curt and yes – though it’s Chemistry to be exact.

Aunt May: Excuse my manners; can I make you some Tea, or Coffee?

Connors: Coffee, I’m afraid I’ll be up late tonight – going over some details.

Aunt May: [As she walks towards the kitchen] I can imagine… [Glances over at Peter before disappearing through the door]

Act 2 Scene 6
[Back to present time]
At Ozzcorp – Norman Osborn is still busy working away on his computer when his mobile phone rings.

Osborn: [picks up the phone] Osborn Industries – Norman Osborn, Head of Developments speaking, how can I help?

Caller: Nice business voice you have there, you’ll need it if Parker’s legal guardians decide to sue!

Osborn: Connors! How did you get my private number? No matter, this is none of your concern – if you keep pressing I’ll be forced to let you go!

Connors: I thought you might say something like that – seeing how you get things done here has made me realise I no longer need your charity for my work, I can finance it myself.

Osborn: Well if you feel like that you won’t mind that I keep all your progress you’ve made so far – who knows I might even make a small profit with your little “appendage inducer” idea.
Connors: Osborn you’re the worst kind of slime – you’re not fit to call yourself human.

Osborn: Why thank you, Curtis that’s the highest complement anyone’s ever paid me. You see I don’t see myself as human either – humans are weak and feeble, they are born, they live there pointless little lives that no one really cares about, and at the end of the day they die and are forgotten about, well I intend to become much more than human!

Connors: You’re a mad man! It all makes sense now – so all there years slowly growing your chain of research always saying it’s for the benefit of mankind, but all along it was all for yourself!
God knows what unholy creations you intend to create next, but I want no part of it.
Goodbye! [Phone line goes dead]

[Talking to himself] Osborn: Mad man am I? All throughout history those people who wished to go beyond the norms of the time were called insane, or dreamers – but no they were visionaries, who had the strength and courage to go were no others had dared before them, these are the people that shaped the future of humanity - as so will I!

Not long after calling Osborn, in his lab Connors is busy saving all his findings from his computer onto a pen drive – a security guard waits outside.

Helper: …thanks for the offer Curt, but I never realised that this job would be so dangerous – I mean it could just as easily been me that was bitten, and it’s just not what I expected, I thought it would just be mixing chemicals, or predicting and analysing results.

Connors: its ok I understand – its probably better that I work alone anyway. Just collect any essential paper.

Guard: [knock’s on door - shouts from the outside] Hurry up in there I was meant to make sure you went directly to the exit!

Connors: [quickly bundles all the paper work into his brief case] Connors takes out the pen drive from the computer, and puts in a CD with “LIZARD *malware; logic bomb*” into the tray, and leaves the lab.
