I guess they are wasting all their time on aquaman! A show that will obviously not last longer than 5 episodes. A show about Aquaman?!?! Come on!

I do miss the episodes by the show's creators, but honestly, this season has been fantastic. And I'm sure Al and Miles had something to do with the:
witches
kryptonian stones
talking and mutating spaceship #1
wife of Lex who went from honest and kind-hearted doctor to would be assassin in less than an episode
etc.
It's late, else I suspect I could list more. Basically, this season kicks some serious butt overall, so I welcome back the big guys, but let's not shoot down some good episodes! =)
Regarding the Aquaman show... sigh, I'm such a Superman fanatic that this new Mercy whatever will have to be pretty terrible for me not to watch. Anything Birds of Prey or worse basically will lose me =).

Mercy Reef was a good idea turned bad by Al and Miles. Aquaman at the core was an Atlantean prince/king who fought only to protect his kingdom from the land-dwellers.
They're now turning Aquaman into some different version where he was instead, banished from Atlantis, and forced to live his life on land, growing up with the land-dwellers.
Does this sound like a terrible idea yet? If not, read up on Wikipedia on Aquaman and it will be.
The icing on the cake, is the star of the show, who happens to used to be a soap opera actor that played as Fox on Passions (NBC) Soap Opera actors are generally, below average actors.
Mercy Reef is supposed to be a drama just like Smallville is. This kind of show would be too much for him, at least, in my opinion. I think this is going to turn out terrible.

Those two usually write the first two episodes of the season, and usually the Season Finale.

I think Gough and Millar should come back to doing more Smallville episodes. I mean why are they spending so much time on the Aquaman thing? Can't they just wait till Smallville is over before they start with Aquaman? Its like they don't care about Smallville anymore. All they have to do is just stay with Smallville for 2-3 more years and then do the Aquaman thing. I just don't know why they are rushing into this.

The problem with the show right now, and I could be wrong about this because I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but it seems like Gough and Millar have a plan to bring Lana and Lex together and it is up to the writing team to make it happen. There is nothing from previous seasons to build off of in regards to Lex and Lana, so they are forced to write unrealistic and contrived storylines to make the triangle happen. That has been my biggest problem with this show of late, it is dark, which I don't mind, but the darkness has to be caused by something realistic instead of having all of the characters be as dumb as possible and lie to one another. That is the definition of a soap opera and that is exactly what Smallville has become to the extreme these days.

The truth?
Smallville got to episode 100, so now it's up for syndication. That means more money for them, so they could care less about the show now and their interest is elsewhere.

Besides Al and Miles, do cast members get paid when it goes to syndication or shown in other countries?

yea it sucks they havent written anything since cursade. but working on the aquaman show does take up some time and i believe they go over all the shows scripts and revise some things or go over it with the writers to get their take on what the episodes will be about.

I happen to think the writing has been pretty good recently. Sure, not every episode has lived up to expectations, but don't become fixated on the idea that Smallville can't be great without Millar and Gough. I bet if you didn't even see who the writers for the episodes were, this discussion wouldn't arise. However, now that I've got this off my chest, I must admit that this issue has confused me a bit too.
