View Full Version : Lana steals the show once again

Notice how everybody is talking about her yet she only had about 5 minutes of screen time? People need to face facts, without Lana there is no Smallville. She is the key to everything. Right now the writers want to make her "evil" so that there will be a battle for her soul, so to speak. Clark vs. Lex.
Meanwhile Lois is insignificant, Chloe is the female version of Pete, Lex looks like a moron compared to Fine, Lionel makes an appearance every once and awhile, and Martha is usually out of town.
Besides Lana, Clark is the only character doing anything. The show revolves around their relationship whether they are together or not.
Lana screws up + Clark saves her = at least 50% of the show. So you see Lana isn't horribly written by accident, her character has to be like that. In other words Lana is Clark's greatest challenge.

Im so bored of Lana bashing right now, but this season hasnt left much choice, and I absolutely hate to agree with your post, but unforunately I kinda do.
I hate lana

It was a Lana based episode even though Lana and Lex had little screen time the episode mostly showcased Lana and Lex growing closer to each other forming a bon that eventually grew into the kiss at the end leading up to wherever it goes next episode. It was a good episode for Tom Welling to get his first directing job with since he had no major role where it would take him alot of time to build up the episode with long scenes, just a few basic acting parts that probably did not take long at all so he could focus on directing and post production more so to see how he liked it.

I couldn't agree LESS with you. The show would be GREAT if Lana the Lamest of Them All wasn't in it. It's not called Lanaville, as much as some people want it to be.
Also, Chloe a female version of Pete? I don't think so. It's insulting to insinuate that Lana is more complex than Chloe. Lana is about as complex and nuanced as Kristin Kreuk's acting, which ain't too deep.

Whoawhoawhoa, let's not criticize the actors now. You can hate on the character, but the actual person is a different story.

Message boards seem to revolve, to a large extent, around complaining or criticism. It's a hallmark of the internet that we all complain about the same things over and over again. If it wasn't Lana, it would be someone or something else that garners criticism.

what do you expect, he isn't superman yet, he isn't working at the daily planet to fall madly in love with lois, he is still the smallville boy. and you can't just not talk about lana, they just broke up its still fresh, I think it was a little to soon for clark to ask chloe if she is seeing anyone tho...but he still cares for her..i mean geez its his first, but lana isn't going away anytime soon, and people just deal

The show would only be great for a select few people like yourself. Without Lana the show wouldnt be anything of what it is today. Most people appreciate Lana and the role she has played in smallville and in Clark' life, they just get fed up with their back and forth relationship

HAHA, I would have agreed with you up till season 3. But now she's a useless character. Her story arc in season 4 is a huge giveaway, that the writers did not know how to fit her in the story line anymore.
In the beginning of Season 5 she was Clark's GF, which was fine. But then they resorted back to the rollercoaster again, and it was predictable. So again they didn't know what to do with her, so they pawned her off on Lex. Again which is going to be very predictable, She'll find out in the end that Lex is bad and Clark is good, which she should have seen since season one, after Clark had saved her dozens of times. While Lex, who everyone knows was bad, even Clark the most forgiving of all people. She goes and turns to him and will be corrupted along the way. She's seens Lex's lust for power, ie the wanting the stone from her.
Basically if she's not Clark's love interest anymore = useless character.
BTW, most people are talking about Lana is because how horribly her character has developed(really lack of development).

Thats because the show has run its course. As a result they're rehashing things to milk old ideas - just like Dawson's Creek. Very few things left to do before Clark becomes Superman.
Personally I would rather see them focus on Clark becoming Superman and only have 5 seasons of Smallville than continue down the path we're on now to stretch it to 6 seasons.

I don't hate Lana. I just think that Lana could be better written. If, as the inital post put it, Lana is at the center of everything then the writers need to take that into consideration. If she is going to be at the center of everything, then the writers need to look at Lana as more than just a pretty face.

I agree, they are using Lana's character right now to be the wedge between Clark and Lex and what it's doing to Lana's character is weakening it. Instead of Lana not having a more clever role by knowing Clark's secret, they are taking it to new extremes by having her be clueless about Lex's true colors. And again, getting her romantically involved with anyone isn't going to strengthen her character either.

Yea, for the most part you're right. I wish there wasn't so much criticism of Smallville, especially since all the people that visit Kryptonsite are fans of the show. It's ok to criticize but not about such insignificant issues.

I think the best thing they could have done with her after they stretched Clana this far is stick to what they were previously on the track of doing---having Lana get closer & closer to finding out the secret (remember that episode where she postulated "what if a ship landed during the 1st meteor shower"?). Things were getting very interesting back then. As I stated before, it would have been great if Fine also turned out to be her astronomy professor and using her to get to Clark without her knowing. She could have found out the secret from his activities and then gotten away from Clark because of not being OK with the fact that he's an alien. Then, enter Lex trying to play off her fear/hatred of aliens. Only they would be friends, not lovers.
That would have been much better. Lana could have been made into a scientific type, therefore setting her on a career path.
EDIT: I can just imagine Lex telling Lana "Ms. Lang don't become a doctor. You wouldn't like me if you become a doctor" (ala the Hulk). Now that would be hilarious.

You know xrayvision, that sounds like an interesting alternative to how this season could have played out. Now it's just a matter of what if...? However, I'm willing to bet that this season will end up with a great ending, tying everything together.

I hope so. I just watched the episode for a 2nd time (peacefully this time might I add). I definitely got a bad vibe from Lana at the end (even when she confronted Chloe). Her hairstyle was also different and gives her a sinister look. The dialogue with her and Lex was that of 2 people just falling into a plan where they go the course and whatever happens happens. The music at the end seemed to show that a very dark union has just been formed.
This should be very interesting if they play it out right. Might as well have a Lana with bad intentions for now since she lost a lot of her fans anyway and it seems to make for some interesting episodes.
