Was it me or did Lionel sound like he was trying to bait Clark when he said Goodnight Clark.
It wasn't a simple goodnight clark but "Goodnight Claaaarrkk!"
He just sounded even more devious in that tone.

I loved that line! It most definitely was hinting at that good ol' MB Lionel returning full force.

Perhaps... like he might actually know that Clark now knows that Lionel knows his secret... wow that didn't make sense...
But Chloe said it best that Lionel may be playing us all... and just may be... the last two episodes will be great ones can't wait! ! !

Lionel looked very much like he wanted Clark to know he knew his secret... sent chills up my spine! The MB is back!

Well lets think about this.. It's been established over the years that there's not much in Smallville that Lionel doesn't know about. It's highly possible that he knew about the drug, and surely knows that Clark got dosed. Since Lionel's a smart man, he'd no doubt assume that JK would tell Clark that Lionel knows.
But what I don't understand is, the tone Lionel has had about Clark's secret this season has been rather fatherly. This has got to be the turning point for Lex. All he's wanted is his father's love. Now his father is going to start showing it to Clark instead.
This year's season finale is shaping up to be awesome.

Lionel could just be using the fatherly tone with Clark to get to Martha. I wouldn't put it past him.

I was waiting for him to say "Goodnight, Kal-El, and then the episode ends. But then we had to have double Lana ending scences. :\ My dad was like, 'is it some kind of ritual, that we have to end with some kind of a Lana scence?' I just laughed, but I have to admit, it is getting really old. :)

Yeah, but I think it was the first Clana scene without music playing at the end.
Perhaps it was forshadowing...like maybe Lionel is plotting to kill Clark. So maybe the 'goodnight' was meant as a 'goodbye' kind of thing.
Okay fine. A little extreme. Its 8:30 at night though. Way too late for theorizing...if that's even a word.

Hmmm...I wonder if Lionel said that line about always protecting Kal-El at the end of Cyborg because he really meant it or because he thought he had a chance with Martha? He said it all alone, so he had to mean it (at least back then). Does he still mean it is the question. With Lionel, you never know. I hope there are at least another 5-6 episodes left before S5 ends.

I have a feeling that Lionel tipped Chloe about Brainiac so she could tell Clark. That way Clark will investigate Brainiac in Hondouras and Lionel could get some alone time to manipulate Martha even more. His plan maybe to get to Martha first, win her trust, so then he could get to Clark through Martha.

Does anyone else share my theory that Lionel will pull a Lex in the comics: Approaching Clark, saying, "Together we could be a great team. We could rule this world," or something along those lines, and Clark says, "I'll never join you," and Lionel pulls out the good ol' kryptonite, and or threatens Clark subtly, like, "Alright, I understand. If that's what you wish, Kal-Al. I certainly hope nobody finds out your secret though. That'd be a detriment to not only you, but to the world."

I'm looking forward to seeing how this whole thing is going to play out. He has some kryptonian knowledge, possibly some residue from the Jor-El posession back in 'Hidden.' He put Chloe onto fine, he has manipulated the situation to be near Martha, and he knows Kal-El's secret. I truly hope we get to see how he's the ultimate puppet-master by the end of the season. I want to see how all the strings come together and work, and to what ends he's working at.
I think he intends to marry Martha, adopt Clark, and have a Super-Step Son, but it may be bigger than that, with Fine's involvement.

Yes! I was expecting him to say Kal-El as well. It looked like he wanted to deep down. It was implied anyway, imo.

Maybe Lionel just really loves Martha. He's wanted her for years. Just think...to get a superpowered son in the process. Ohhhhhh, Lex is gonna be mad. Of course, after Pa's warning, Clark's never gonna let this happen even Martha loses her mind and trusts Lionel.

You know... I was thinking the same thing... I really wanted him to say "Goodnight, Kal-El." That would have been a great way to end the ep... but the way Lionel say goodnight made up for him not calling Clark by his real name.

Yes, I agree with you there. Martha says she doesn't know much about playing the political game, and of course, Lionel's there to "rescue" her. Why wouldn't Martha use that to help her along in her duties? I also think Martha knows that Lionel wants her. She made that very clear in last night's epi.

That one line really was the best part of the whole episode. The delivery was just amazing. You could practically see him oozing with menace during that line.
I hope that they don't kill off Lionel. JG is the best actor in the show.

hmm this makes me wonder. If Martha ever finds out (and i assume she will at some point) that Lionel knows Clark's seceret will Martha get more involved with Lionel in a closer to romantic way to keep Clark and his secret safe? To me that would be great and would show just how much of the MB that Lionel really is.

I've definitely toyed with that possibility a few times. Maybe Lex will feel jealous of Clark (if Lionel spends time with him as a father figure- especially since a real father figure is what Lex has always wanted).
