Looking online, I feel like the only human being that truly enjoyed this episode. I loved that Chloe led Clark around, knew his abilities, and still protected his secret. When he regained his memory, she still didn't prod into his life--seems like she had really matured since the 2nd season.

In addition, I love the ending, when Clark Superman's those giganic metal poles. Lois' reaction is simply priceless. Of course, they had the memory guy on hand, but since that was the theme of the episode, I didn't mind it at all. One of the better episodes of Season 4.

I'm with you Greg. I loved the idea and the way everything played out in this episode. Chloe showing Clark his powers was classic.

when Clark tells her that he can see through object sand she closes her jacket, awesome. Liek that will help.

i thought this was a pretty good episode. one of my few favorites of season 4 and the in the end where Lex steals Clarks cave drawings from the loft, i could not believe it! but it was a good scene especially with "this is your life" by switchfoot playing in the background. that song went perfectly with the scene!

I love this episode! Especially the way Chloe protects Clark's secret through the entire thing. The only thing I didn't like was Clark's mindwipe at the end. Losing that entire day, while getting the rest back, was really lame. Especially since he would have seen how much Chloe took care of him. The other mindwipes from that moment that the guy did were fine, they made sense in character. But Clark losing that day was painful.

This episode does have one of my favorite funny Chloe lines ever, though. "Premature combustion. That's one I didn't need to know about."

Love this episode one of my faves of S4. Chloe and Clarks interaction throughout the episode always good stuff. Yes I even liked the Lana and Clark moments though brief they tend to tug at your heart strings.( only a little). Wonder what ever happend to the mindwipe guy?

This mind wipe guy could virtually do anything he wants and just erase people's memories when he needs to. He has a pretty cool power. I wouldn't mind it. You get to have do-overs!

I didn't like how they reused the amnesia plot. I also think that this episode should've have been placed earlier in the season so Chloe would have more time to adjust and exploit Clark's multiple powers.

That line always makes me laugh so much!

This was my favourite episode of Season 4, along with the finale. Chloe is a legend for helping Clark so much. She is such a good friend.

As well as being a great episode full stop, it was also a real Chlark episode. However, I felt TPTB were trying to ram Clana down our throats a lot :( and as a Chlark fan I could've done without that. But still, I love this episode.

Liked this episode, but one glaring inconstincey. When did Summerholt move to Smallville. I am pretty sure that "Ryan" established it as being in Metropolis. Sherriff Adams would only be there to check out things if it's in Smallville. She has no jurisdiction in Metropolis.

jdot
02-22-2006, 09:40 AM
Actually if she's investigating the case of a resident currently living in Smallville who is missing she could be there. She would more than likely get local backup, however.

In "Ryan" the Kents ask for Summerholt to be investigated and Local Police from Metropolis do the work. Also in "Blank" they say the scientist working at Summerholt to erase memories is living in Smallville. Why would he live at Smallville if Summerholt is in Metropolis.

It's the same logic as why Lex and Lionel live in Smallville when the LuthorCorp headquarters is in Metropolis or how Martha seems fine commuting between the Kent Farm and the LuthorCorp Towers every day.

Did anyone else notice that when Chloe tells Clark about his powers they're sitting on a hey cart that is all charred up on one side? Is this the cart Clark/Loinel set on fire in 'Transference?' If it is I love, love, love SV's set decorator. Brilliant.

I loved this episode too. Amnesiac Clark was great and his funny scenes with Chloe were the best. The Lex scene in the cave was terrific and when Lex said, I know this sounds strange but we think these caves are about you, I nearly died. Lana finally breaks up with Jason too, which was good as I didn't like him at that point. Ironically now I do. Good episode

I think this is one of the better episodes of the fourth season. The more I watch it, the more I like it. I like Clark's diffident, mild-mannered attitude as he comes to grips with his powers, particularly his embarrassed stammering as he tries to explain his X-ray vision to Chloe, and his total shock when he pulls the door off its hinges. I like Chloe's reactions to his powers (the way she automatically pulls her jacket together when she discovers he can see things, the super-wheaties comment). Also, this episode was very important in terms of setting up the more friendly relationship between Chloe and Clark in the fifth season. Overall, this is one of my faves.

i like this epsidoe. I thought it was one of the few good episodes in season 4.

the only thing that bugs me about it is that clark is surprised about his powers. if you suffer a memory loss such as his, you don't know anything about anything, so how would he know that being able to bend thick metal with ease and seeing through solid objects was weird or different from anyone else?

Clark: "I don't wanna know, This time it's going to be diffrent."
Lana: "This time?" (slam locker door) was BEAUUUUTIFULL EFFECT!

He also said he didn't want to go back to a life that involved lying to everyone. Of course the initial reveal of his powers to Chloe should have been a choice made by Clark. And putting the burden of his secret on Chloe was wrong. But one can argue that Clark would also benefit from Chloe having a better understanding of who he really was.

This episode sounds good! I can't help myself I like spoilers. I can't believe here in australia we are still in the run episode! Anyway how does Chloe find out about Clark's secret? And what makes Chloe come up to Clark over this time? And like the proof- how does she know? Sounds like Clark doesn't freak out that much that Chloe knows.

Wow...didnt realize that Australia is just showing early season 4 eppys. I thought you guys will be in the same stage as the U.K....they're 3 eppys out from season 5 finale.

Here in the US, we just finished season 5 last week.

ATTN: Spoilers Ahead......

Chloe found out about Clark's secret in one of the episodes before Blank eppy (i think it was Phariah episode) which she witnessed Clark using his abilities (catching a car like a beach ball & super speed). Clark didn't know Chloe was in the area. She never told Clark she knew about his secret until....... (just wait til season 5 comes....it's pretty cool).

My favorite episode from season 4. Watching Clark rediscover his powers brought back what was great about seasons 1-2. Chloe was great as usual. We see that Lana is truly in Clark's heart and not just visual.

I hadn't seen Blank until today. When all was said and done, Chloe proved herself to be Clark's truest friend.. I loved the final scene, as Clark is fishing for what Chloe knows and her explaination of "You trusted me." The look in Clark's eyes was panic, but he kept his poker face on.

One thing I did notice was how much knowing that, even without his memory, Clark had a thing for Lana hurt Chloe.

If there's no payoff for Chloe in S6, I'm gonna be very upset with the writing team.

"If there's no payoff for Chloe in S6, I'm gonna be very upset with the writing team."

Couldn't agree more, PaulNeb. Between this episode and the end of "Spirit," they really put Chloe through the wringer with regards to Clark at the end of season 4. And this episode totally redeemed her bad deeds in season 3, IMHO. I'd really like to see her get Clark eventually, even if it's not forever.

I stayed away from this episode for a long time because it seemed like such a standard plot device "Hero forgets who he is, has to discover powers all over again, yadda, yadda, yadda". But This Episode has some of the best acting I've ever seen on Smallville in it.
MR was creepy and slightly evil as Lex, Tom was great as amnesiac Clark, and Allison was really, really fantastic as Chloe. Her line "you trusted me" said so simply and heartfelt and heartbreaking was one of her best lines ever.
So (like Leech before it for me) this was an episode that I went into expecting not to like at all and expecting it to be very formulaic and instead got my socks knocked off!

Well, many people who work in Sydney live up in the Blue Mountains or up on the Central Coast. They don't seem to mind the drive.

God, I love this episode. Very underrated. From the time I heard the title "Blank", I was sure it was going to be an excuse to completely wipe Chloe's memory. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that would not be the case.

For the first time in a long time on the show, we have a really good FOTW with an actual emotional story behind him and a reason for his use of this power he has. And in the end, not only does he NOT die or get arrested, we the audience actually LIKE him. Who could have imagined in SV?

The Chloe/Clark story was fantastic and wonderfully acted by both stars. Chloe takes Clark 101 basically and we see how good of a person and a friend she is. She really loves Clark.

Back at this point in the season I was pulling for Clana, yes I said it. This was before season 5, I've learned since then. So it was very refreshing at the end for Clark to actually pursue something with Lana instead of going with, "Yeah, you're right. It was a mistake"....End Scene. It's like the writers broke all their own rules in this episode. Wonderful.

O it'll still hurt maybe even more than ever,we see in s5 that sum of the things him and lana did hurt her.And she's not even that close to lana(Even tho tptb try to make them out to be close),so him gettin wit lois will definitely hurt.Which is why I don't think we'll see it happen on sv,and if so its the last episode and chloe is probably dead.I can see clark lookin at lois(Espcially if she's into journalism at the time)to remind him of chloe sumone he's luved.Which is also why I think chlark will get a chance before the series ends, cause really on this show chloe is clois connection just like clark is chloe/lana connect. So I can see tptb goin this route even wit jimmy/oliver comin along.Still blank was a great episode tho, shows how good chlark friendship is.Plus shows growth on chloe part since s3 since she didn't have to tell him anythin but she did.

What do you mean?

It's EXACTLY what happened the first time Clark laid eyes on Lana at the tender age of 5!
Lana was, is and always will be the first TRUE love of Clark's life...

Listen closely to "Everything" and "You & Me" by Lifehouse and you'll better understand the way those two characters connect on Smallville...

Chloe and Clark? Not even...Chloe is strictly "friend" material...LOL

What did I think of Blank?

Clark: Are you sure this is where I live?
Chloe: You spend most of your time over there.
Clark: In a barn?
Chloe: Well, normal was never really your style, Clark. That was my attempt at humor. Sometimes I crash and burn, sorry.

Clark (bending metal): How did I do that?
Chloe: Why did I always picture myself on the other end of this conversation? Come here, sit. Smallville was hit with the world's biggest meteor shower when you were little. Now, I know this sounds way out there...but some of the meteor rocks have had an extraterrestrial effect on certain people in this town. And it is my theory that you're one of them.
Clark: Extraterrestrial powers? You mean I'm some sort of an alien?
Chloe: No, of course not.
Clark: A mutant?
Chloe: Well...yeah...Who has saved my life on more than one occasion. See, you've sort of taken it upon yourself to be Smallville's self-appointed hero. And if you ask me, I think that that is amazing.
Clark: We must have been good friends if I trusted you with all this.
Chloe: Actually...you didn't. It's okay. I mean, you were just protecting yourself. A lot of people would betray you if they knew.
Clark: But you wouldn't....would you?
Chloe: Never.

Chloe: Clark, see if you can find anything.
Clark (using his x-ray eyes): Chloe, is there something there? Back behind---near your feet, under the mat.
Chloe: Okay. How'd you know that was there?
Clark: I can see through things.
Chloe: Hold on a minute. Are you telling me that you can see through solid objects?
Clark: I guess, that's one you didn't know about, huh?
Chloe: No, and that might be one of those abilities you're gonna want to keep a lid on.
Clark: You know, I've been thinking about that. I don't know why I was worried about what other people think. I don't know why I let it rule my life. I mean, you understood.
Chloe: Yeah, but, Clark, unfortunately, some people in Smallville aren't as progressive...as your post-amnesia tour guide.
Clark: That should be their problem, not mine.
Chloe: Look, I know how eager you are to throw an impromptu coming-out party. It is not as easy as I thought it would be. But please just sleep on it.
Clark: How can anyone get to know me if I'm never myself?
Chloe: I know it's hard, but I imagine that if you didn't tell people...you must have had a lifetime of reasons for not doing it. So that's why we need to get your memory back.
Clark: So I can what? Get back to lying to everyone? I am not sure I want that life back.
Chloe: Just wait until you talk to your parents, okay?
Chloe (After Clark's heat-vision gets out of control when he stares at Lana Lang): Premature combustion. That's one I didn't need to know about.
(Chloe puts out the fire that Clark's eyes started).
Clark: Who is that?
Chloe: That is Lana Lang. The love of your life.

Chloe: Clark, are you okay?
Clark: I can hear someone running.
Chloe: What? And the super-Wheaties abilities just keep coming. Go get them, Clark.
Clark: It sounds like he's on a motorcycle now.
Chloe: Trust me on this one, Clark. Run. Just run, Clark.

I really liked this episode, Blank, because Clark confided to Chloe all of his secrets (except the alien part). Every ability that Clark has, he told Chloe about. He bent metal in front of Chloe and asked her, "How did I do that?" Chloe tried to explain to Clark about the meteor shower and how it effected people and gave them meteor powers. Chloe tells Clark he's one of them -- someone who has meteor powers. Clark asks, "So this has some extraterrestrial powers? So you think I'm an alien?" "No," answered Chloe. Clark asks, "So I'm a mutant?'' Chloe answered, "Who has saved my life on more than one occasion. You're a hero, Clark. I think that's so amazing." Clark told Chloe that they must be good friends if he entrusted her with all of this. "Actually, you didn't," says Chloe. "Clark, you were just protecting yourself. A lot of people would betray you, if they knew about you." Clark answers, "But you wouldn't." "Never," answers Chloe.

(What a great friendship they have. Ever since Chloe found out about Clark Kent and his super powers, she hasn't betrayed him, yet. She's as loyal as Pete was. A true blue friend. A secret-keeper. Clark's best friend and confidante. Clark didn't want to tell Chloe or Lana about his secret, because he didn't know how they would react or whether they would accept him or not. I'm thinking to myself, "Why is he so afraid of telling Lana his secret? It's not like he's committing crimes or anything. What is he ashamed of?"

Then Clark tells Chloe about his X-Ray vision. Well, actually he doesn't use the word X-Ray vision, he just tells her, "I can see through things." Then Clark tells Chloe about his super-hearing. He says to Chloe, "Chloe, I can hear someone running." Chloe answers, "What? And the super-Wheaties abilities just keep coming. Go get them, Clark." Clark: "It sounds like a motor-cycle." Chloe: "Trust me on this one, Clark. Run. Just run, Clark!" Clark super-speeds away. Chloe learned about his super-speed on Pariah, when Alicia showed Chloe Clark Kent's super-powers. She also witnessed his super-strength when he picked up a car. I really enjoyed Blank, because Clark trusted Chloe completely without wondering if he should trust her or not.

At the end of the show, Clark told Chloe he wanted her to be completely honest with him. He says, "Did I do anything unusual, Chloe? I need you to be completely honest with me? What did I do?" Chloe answers with a smile on her face, "You trusted me," leaving Clark wondering what in the world did she mean by that? This episode is one of my favorites. I only wish that he could show off his secret to Lana, so she could stop questioning him about his secret).

Clark and CHloe friendship went to a better level, they weren't that close. Oh gosh the Clana moments, it was so cute.. And the song when Lana walk to Clarks house, "Don't close your eyes this is your life, and who you want to be"..

The clana-ness, Made me love them more.

Being new to the show, I wanna say thanks for the heads up. I saw the episode where Chloe found out about Clark's powers. Since my local station is running season 4 I kept wondering when Clark is going to tell Chloe about his powers and noe I have to wait to watch season 5? That sucks kind of because the suspense is killing me!

I have to admit Chloe has handled it quite well. SHe has been very subtle in letting Clark she knows and that he can trust her. This was the best episode for that.

blank was an amazing episode. one of the best of season 4 easily, and maybe one of the most fun in the entire series. it shows you just why chloe is so trustworthy, and how far she'd go to help clark.

i also liked the FotW, and thought it was great that he wasn't evil, or even as selfish as we first thought.

very underrated episode.

:) He was so cute when he didn't know anything in that episode. It also showed how good of a friend Chloe was, helping him remember stuff and all...

This episode was great. Probably one of my favourites in season 4.

The key in this episode which the audience must recognise because it's an integral part of the show is the fascinating relationship between clark and lex, is how Lex was able to use/exploit Clark's loss of memory to obtain information about the drawings in the kawatchi cave. One particular line that brought a smile to my face as well as chilling is when Lex was telling Clark in the cave "I know this is going to sound strange but we think they're about you" refering to how the symbols were about Clark. Deliberately deceiving clark by making false statements that they've been working together and documenting the drawings, making Clark think that he (Lex) could be trusted. The audience has felt that while Lex has been suspicious of clark all this time since they met, he has never expressed it as much as in this episode while they were "friends". This was probably the first time that Lex was deliberately and directly using/exploiting a vulnerable Clark to gain valuable information. For the first time, we could really say that this friendship is destined to fail very soon and increases the thought that Lex is becoming darker by the minute.

Lex now has bigger suspicion of Clark because of how he managed to find out that there was a room behind a cave wall. It will deepen the suspicion that Clark knows what the symbols mean. I find it chilling that Lex may already know what clark is hiding from him and the fact that he brought up that the symbols relate to him probably increases the suspicion to what he already believes as Clark not being "human". Luckily for Clark he didn't admit to everything. There was a moment where I felt Lex's plan was going to work and Clark was going to reveal more if not everything. At the end of the day Lex will continue to be clark's friend but there's no doubt there is a growing mistrust and deceit between these two fascinating characters. The last scene just shows how much mistrust there is. Lex stole a copy of the cave drawing and then lies about what he wanted to talk about with Clark. Clark had that look of suspicion that Lex may be concealing what really happened while he lost all his memory.

Simply fascinating and exactly why I love watching this show!

As for the rest of the episode, kind of a relief that Chloe only lost a few mins of her memory. She did great helping Clark out in moments of vulnerability. Luckily she whispered to clark to be careful of Lex. That was crucial. A great twist to the storyline for this episode where we learn the kid didn't kill his brother and that his guilty father oppressed his memory causing him to become a meteor freak with "memory repo".

And finally Jason just confirms what I said in the previous episode discussion. "You're the one part of my life that made me forget what I turned into....you have no idea how much I've been protecting you". A guy with a jealous rage who has been deceiving his girlfriend. I've been saying that Jason is alot like Lex because of their upbringing by their parents and the apparent darkness inside them and their obssession with the mysterious. When he practically threatens Lana to stay with him, reminds me of the relationship between Lex and Clark....the thought came to mind that one of many reasons why Lex turns out bad is because of the feeling of betrayal that his best friend has turned his back on him. To make matters worse for Jason, Lana and Clark are on the verge of getting back together!

Great episode!

Being the hiatus and all, I've been re-watching Smallville episodes all break. I stumbled onto this episode and I can't believe I've never seen it before. I was in for a surprise because this has become one of my favorite. I love the Clark and Chloe FRIENDSHIP, it's so special and unique. I even found myself hating Lex for tricking Clark and then stealing from his loft. It was a refreshing episode because I love the friendship of Chlark and this episode leaves you with a great feeling.

I know, "Blank" is, without a doubt, one of my absolute favorite episodes of Smallville. It featured the Chlark friendship so prominently and showed just how loyal a secret keeper Chloe was. She did an amazing job of protecting him, and it was a neat way for her to be clued in to his other powers that she was unaware of at the time. It also gave Clark the chance to reevaluate all his relationships and see everything through a fresh lens. Chloe put it well at the end of the episode when she said, "You made all the same choices, except one... You trusted me." That was great foreshadowing for how things would turn out at the start of Season 5. I just might have to rewatch this episode soon myself... It's one of those that makes me feel nostalgic.

Blank is one of my favourite episodes. Yes, it solidified the friendship bond for Chloe and Clark. More importantly for me, it left no doubt about the true love of Clark's life.
Clark: Who is that?
Chloe: That is Lana Lang. The love of your life.
Even with a clean slate Clark chose Lana and wanted Lana! He felt a connection to Chloe and did not like Lois.

I like how this episode showed how close Clark and Chloe are as friends. I loved Lois in this episode. This one also showed how Lex was willing to take advantage of Clark and how their friendship had deteriorated by this point.

Looking online, I feel like the only human being that truly enjoyed this episode. I loved that Chloe led Clark around, knew his abilities, and still protected his secret. When he regained his memory, she still didn't prod into his life--seems like she had really matured since the 2nd season.

I think this episode illustrated why Chloe should have been the one to know Clark's secret, not Pete. If she would have known the truth, she wouldn't have pushed the issue constantly with Clark's past and considering her penchant for the "weird", she would have understood and coped a lot better than Pete.

But who cares: Does it get any better than the red shirt Chloe wore in the beginning?

----- Added 13 Minutes later -----

This one also showed how Lex was willing to take advantage of Clark and how their friendship had deteriorated by this point.

Is it just me or did it deteriorate like a nuclear bomb? It seems throughout this season, they still remained friends, although not as close as before, I would describe it as tenuous. It seems after Onyx, Lex really embraced the Luthor family motto of "By any means necessary", not coincidentally I'm sure.

This episode makes me question how Clark can just suddenly fall for Lois right now.
He had amnesia and didn't like her. I think the writers made Lois far to obnoxious to begin with.
Chloe, Clark and Lana scenes were brill.
and Chloe warning Clark about Lex was good.
