Lionel Luthor is shot, and the evidence indicates Jonathan Kent is the one who did it. Clark and company must prove that it was not Jonathan.

this is another one of my favorite season 2 episodes. i like the idea that Lionel gets shot and the all the evidence points to Jonathan. and Clark going around searching for the real culprit with Pete was cool. i especially like the part where Pete's car is run off the road and it jumps across the field, reminds me of "Dukes of Hazzard"

This show destroys as many cars as DoH did  I couldnt help but get a Duke's of Hazzard feel to the whole episode. So the sherriff sets up Bo....errr.....Jonathan up for a crime he did so then Luke....err....Clark goes around and proves that Bo.....err....Jonathan is innocent and all is well in Hazzard...err.....Lowell county. Ok sorry
I did feel for poor ole Jonathan though. Everything was set up so well even Martha and himself seemed to had started believing that Jonathan had shot Lionel.
I was figuring it was going to be Lionel's assistant that had done it though. I never would of dreamed up that Ethan did it.
I really liked this episode. It had a mystery to it and was very pleasing. Though I did like Ethan's character. darn it.

I like this one. It reminds me of shows like Without a Trace and CSI when it does the flashbacks and stuff. And I love the part where Pete and Clark jump the car across the field. Classic Dukes of Hazzard moment!!! :D

This episode was so well done in my opinion. I don't remember seeing it when it came out, but I watched it on dvd. I had a million other things to be doing but I was totally glued to my seat.
I thought for sure that it was Lionel's assistant that had shot him, didn't see the whole sheriff thing coming at all.
I don't really remember this season too well, (had a lot of stuff going on that year) But I am totally intrigued by Ezra Small. Whatever happened with his character??

I don't understand Sheriff Ethan's motive. Why did he want to kill Lionel and, more importantly, why did he frame Jonathan?

I rewatched this episode today and I think I figured it out. Ethan got Lionel some info on some people who were working for/with Lex so Lionel could get control over Lex and the company again by getting rid of a few of Lex's helper's. Ethan got caught up in Lionel's web that anyone whoever seems to do business with him gets caught in. Ethan was dessperate to get rid of Lionel and when he got the report that Jonathan and Lionel got in a bigargument he used that to set Jonathan up since pretty much everyone from Smallville to Gotham City knows that Joanthan hates Lionel and everything Luthor too. I kinda feel bad for Ethan because I think he did think of Jonathan as a good friend but he was desperate and was willing to sacrefice anyone and anything to get rid of Lionel and save his own hide.
What I want to know though is who killed the bartender? Was that Ethan as well and how was he going to cover that one up?
And I wanted to slap Clark when he brought up that Lex had shot someone before. Uhm hello Clark would you have rather Lex not shot Nixon and see Bo die then with a fence post through his heart?

Ethan clearly didn't think the whole thing through. He didn't need to set anyone up. He knows that everyone in Smallville hates Lionel so he could've just said that they're too many suspects for the case to be solved.

I love the mystery type feel of the episode. for a minute, i actually though that JK got drunk and shot Lionel.

This was a cracking episode. The whole episodes flowed superbly. To tell you the truth i actually did think it was Jonathon all along. Dat Ethan was some backstabber, how could he do that to a friend? Sure he was caught up it Lionel's ellusive web but still he didnt have to resort pointing the finger squarly on Jonathon. It was excellent seeing Ethan getting put away for what he done and it was good to see JK cleared. Another good ep from Season 2

This episode was wonderful! It's like a tribute to Agatha Christie or Mystery! on PBS LoL! :D
I just loved it all. :D Clark is kind of in the detective role... Complete with the part at the end where he tells it the way it really happened! I loved it! Yay! :)

First of all, just a great mystery story apart from the mythos. Well done--a 10 I think. And of course, Sheriff Ethan had me fooled the first time. Anything Pa Kent shows up in is going to be a great ep and this is true here. Very enjoyable.

Okay, I REALLY enjoyed this episode. It kept me guessing from beginning to end, and I loved the way they revealed more and more clues and plot points from other characters' perspectives and flashbacks. Very well done mystery episode, Smallville. :)

Great Clark episode. No angst and Clark solving the mystery makes entertaining TV. Hopefully the show resorts back to stuff like this for Season 9, now that Clark is a reporting it only makes sense he investigates stuff more

I'm a big fan of mysteries and whodunnit kinds of cases, so I honestly really enjoyed this episode. I know that some people don't think it's as strong as many other Season 2 episodes, but it breaks out of the FOTW overused story technique, keeps you guessing, pulls in multiple flashbacks, misdirections, and points of view, and I had no idea that Sheriff Ethan was going to turn out to be the villain by the end of it! WOW! Plus it had a proactive Clark, Pete trying to be a helpful sidekick, loads of the Kent parents who often didn't get much to do, tons of Lionel and Lex, which always makes for good television, and just an interesting plot in general. It may not be in my top 5 episodes of Season 2, but it was a solid episode to be sure.

I have to say after rewatching all of Season 2, Suspect might be one of my favs. Limited angst + good story for Clark = entertainment for me
