Season one was great, and I loved the season finale with the prom and then the tornado. What was your favourite episode?
My favorite episode of season 1 was the pilot. I remember watching it for the first time and I couldn't go to to sleep that night. I was just too excited from watching it (ok, I know I'm a dork!). I was also supposed to be studying for the S.A.T.'s that night, but I HAD to watch Smallville!

Mine was probably "Crush." I loved Adam Brody as the guest star, and it had that awesome funeral sequence at the end.

In my opinion, season one is the second best season after season three. The only reason why it falls second, is because there really wasn't an overall storyline. It was more of a stand alone season because of all the various FOTW's. There was little angles like with Nixon and Lex, and Clark's feelings for Lana competing with Whitney/Chloe's feelings for Clark. But nothing major.
Season one had the best character development and dialogue though. Most of my favorite lines come from the first season, and this is when Clark was the most Superman like. It is funny because it should have been in reverse, where Clark started out like he is now, and then ended up like he was in season one. I don't know why Clark's development went so downhill. This was also the only season where I really liked Lana.
Best S1 episodes IMO :
Rogue - Most underrated episode of the show and the best episode of S1. Great effects, dialogue, non FOTW villain, and an awesome cliffhanger ending. In my top five in terms of favorite episodes for the whole show.
Leech - A fantastic episode in terms of character development for Clark. I don't think he has ever acted more like Supes then he did in this episode. He put aside his safety for the greater good, which is what Supes is all about. This episode also had so many great quotes, and an awesome effects sequence with the parking lot brawl. Eric was also a great FOTW.
Pilot - The episode that started it all and laid the ground work for the show. Enough said.
Hourglass - I love the episode because of Cassandra (my favorite FOTW), the forshadowing of evil Lex, and there were some great action sequences in this episode with Clark saving the girl under the truck, the knife shattering, throwing the guy onto the car and it shattering, etc.. Just a great episode all around.
Hothead - Another episode that is very underrated. Coach Walsh is another one of my favorite FOTW's, I love the various football sequences with Clark catching the football in front of Chloe's face and showing off in practice, and I LOVE the fencing sequence with Lex and Lionel. Some of the best Lex/Lionel interaction on the show.
Hug - I love this episode for the Clark/Lex forshadowing and it has one of my favorite sequences of the whole show with Lex going crazy and firing the uzi at Clark. I also liked the FOTW Kyle Tippet as well. It is a very cool moment near the end when he tells Clark to do great things with his gifts and not to hide who he is.
Tempest - My favorite Smallville ship is Chlark, and this episode had some of the best Chlark moments ever. It also features the best cliffhanger of the show with Lana getting sucked up into the tornado.
Zero/Jitters - I like to think of these two episodes as a one/two punch in terms of development for Lex. They did a good job showing Lex's struggle against who he really is.

My favorite episode was the Pilot. What started it all. I will watch the episode on dvd and its like 'wow now that is different'
Everything has changed since then. Even Jonathan's hair

Totally agree that Season 1 is probably the best seaason of Smallville.
Clark catching the football in front of Chloe's face
I know! That was an awesome scene. I remember Pete was just like, "wow Clark, great catch".
And Chloe's just looking like "... I almost got nailed in the face and all you can say is, ' wow Clark, great catch'?"
Meanwhile, Clark sends the football back and it sends the jock sprawling.
:rotfl:
Season 1 was practically flawless. Season 2 was uber-great, one or two episodes were awkward.
Season 3 was starting strong... then waning. By season 4, the show wasn't the same.
I was with it. Then Season 5 changed what "it" was. Now what Im with isn't "it". And what "it" is is wierd and scary to me.
Like the honestly, Hidden wasn't half as cool to me as everyone said it was going to be. The bald chick assasin was lame. Replacing Jonathan for Lana was a horrible idea IMO. In fact I was rather dissatisfied. I havent been satisfied with a single episode of season 5, while every episode of season 1 felt so... PERFECT. Like honestly - watching Obscura, Clark's last line, was just... "wow". And I tell you now,m I havent been 'wow'ed ever since season 2 somewhere.

Although Season 1 is my least favorite, I still like it a lot. I look back through the show, and I think that Season 1 seems like it was used to set things up for the other seasons. So there weren't a lot of story arcs in the season, but it did give us a good sense of who the characters were and how they may or may not evolve.
Season 1 also had a lot of ups-and-downs. For every Hourglass, there was a Jitters. The show seems to have defined itself more narrowly over the years, so the episodes seem to have a more consistent feel, if sometimes off-the-mark.
But there's always a special nostalgic feeling when I look at these episodes now. Simpler, more innocent episodes. Not the baggage the show has now.
I guess that's good enough for a first entry.

Really? I don't know, I always thought of that episode as a little melodramatic. The action seemed somewhat self-important and at the expense of the acting and storytelling. There were many good things about the episode (I especially liked the humorous Clark-party-clean-up and the parallel Lex-Lionel vs. Martha/Jonathan-Clark relationships), but I think episodes like Hourglass, Zero, Rogue, Hug, and Crush are far superior.
Oh, well, I'm glad you like it, at least.

I already listed my favorite episodes above. I agree that there are better episodes. Rogue and Leech are both on my top five list in terms of all time favorite episodes. I also love The Pilot, Hourglass, etc.. I just really enjoy Jitters for the sub plot about level three because it really did a good job at showing Lionel's underhanded side, and the scenes at the end are two of my favorites with the group hug with Clark and his family, and the hug with Lex and Lionel, that shows Lex being jealous of Clark and his family and hating his own father. Plus, I love the rescue where the tier collapses, and Clark has to pull both Lex and Earl up with one hand.

Hourglass
Pilot
Jitters
Rogue
Zero
Nicodemus (greetings, Dr. Hamilton--Joe Morton is a personal fav.!)
Obscura (more subplot about the ship, and the metal disc)
and I really enjoyed Tempest. Good season finale.
Over all, I love Season 1, although it feels like a bit of a prototype. Every week (practically) there is a different FOTW who is quickly forgotten (luckily Tina, Ryan, and Eric make appearances in Season 2, or season 3).
But, it laid the ground work for an even BETTER season 2, and an even BETTER season 3. I hope Season 5 wraps up spectacularly well, so the show feels like what it once was in its first 3 seasons. :)

It's all about "Zero"...awesome Lex story, AND the killer in it was from Bludhaven(which is across the harbor from Gotham). Great way to mention other DC universe cities. Especially since Bludhaven and even worse, Gotham, are full of killers and psychopaths.

this is one of the best seasons. in my opinion, seasons 1, 2 , and 3 were all the best seasons. after that the show got a different feel. even season 5 as good as it is, has a different feel to it. I really like the feel of season 1. I often rewatch those episodes and i remember that season 1 rocks!

The different feel for me when I watch this season is that everything feels innocent like. There were no real big issues for the most part. Clark really was just trying to fit in. Lex was most of all a misunderstood lonely guy who just was looking to make real friends and the worst thing he really did was get too curious with how he lived through the car accident. Chloe and Lana's major problems involved the boys in their lives. Jonathan and Martha truely were a happy married couple with a son and their were no health concerns with Jonathan and over all not a big problem with the farm.
Everything was just seemed innocent and perfect and over the seasons since then the job seemed to be to tear that a part but still have all the people tight knit. Except for Pete and Whitney, and I guess now Jonathan.
Zero was lame for me because the villain was talking about "Everyone has a twin in the world." Give me a break. They could have thought of something better than that.

Season One was probably the best season in terms of character development. In this season I really fet that Clark would become Superman. This becomes less evident in the later seasons when he finds out he an alien.

I found season 1 to be the best of them all. Although, I can't say much for the second half of season 5. I stopped watching it because I didn't like the way it was going.
But I loved S1. There was a dynamic there that's just gone now. Like everyone's said, it was so innocent. I liked Whitney and Lana together. That was a good dynamic. Each episode screamed potential. Not to mention, they were all afraid the show wouldn't get picked up, so each episode had an energy that isn't like now that their jobs are secure.

I agree that zero was one of the better episodes of series 1, but i would only rank it sixth in my top 10 behind x-ray (i love episodes where he learns more of his powers from the comics and original stuff), leech (brilliant plot, coupled with a great guest actor), crush (ditto), stray (ryan is an amazing character), and obscura (i love the plot, most amazing in the world).

This is the best season for me. It was real superhero stuff from start to finish.
Sure there ws no real story arc buts that why i like it.
From the end of this season onwards theres too much seriousness and/or silliness on Smallville.
Leech, Hug and Stray are my Favs:)

Season One is the worst season IMO but still gets an A in my book. There were plenty of really good episodes and a few not-so-good ones.
BEST:
Pilot
Leech
Nicodemus
Tempest
WORST:
Hothead
Jitters
Drone
This season had a lot of great character development and really showed what the characters were about. I am about to watch this season for the 5th time on my DVD. Yay!

This season was clearly my favorite. Like everyone's said, it was so innocent, and the potential was huge. There was a freshness to it and no reliance on guest stars or the future. Just the innocence of it all...

God I loved this season.
It had this great warm, small town in the early fall atmosphere that while existed until mid season 4, was at its best here. Everyone was nice and innocent and every day was sunny.
This is how smallville is supposed to be and I apsolutly hate it that they completly tossed this aspect away in season 4. especially since it used to be the show's trademark and what made me fall in love with the show in teh first place.
If I had one wish for this show it would be that they brought this back. There really is no reason why they can't be grown up and have a sunny day once and awhile.
I had a Smallville-a-thon weekend and went back to watch Season One again. It's been a bit since I've seen Season One - I still really like the Pilot episode and Lana seemed a bit stronger then more stable of a character.
The good ol' days when Clark and Chloe did research together. :D

i miss how it was in season 1 how clark wasnt afraid to get rid of emotional ties in order to save people when necessary, that was very superman.
Now its unbelievable how lana has so much power over him, no offence to kk but to progress smallville she had to go along time ago perhaps at the end of season 3 allow clark to get over her for a few episodes then move onto the mythos.
favourite eps in season 1 crush cause of adam brody and the funeral scene plus the chlark scenes
it had the best character development without a doubt.

I'm bored so I've decided to give grades and an average for all the seasons and will do when Season 8 is over!
Anyway here are my grades and opinions of the 21 episodes of this season.
PILOT
An awesome pilot and actually one of the best opening episodes of any series I can remember... 8/10
METAMORPHOSIS
Clark v Spiderman= Aweseome... this was back in the days when FOTW episodes rocked!
8/10
HOTHEAD
Don't mess with the coach or he'll burn you!
8/10
X-Ray
X-Ray Vision= great, I'm 50/50 over Tina Greer though!
7/10
Cool
Even by now FOTW's were becoming a bit retarded and the ICEMAN wasn't all that icy... 5/10
HOURGLASS
The best episode of the Season and one of the shows best... Lex's vision of the future still gives me the creeps.
9/10
Craving
A decent if not flawed freak story about a very hungry girl and deer eater!!!! 6/10
JITTERS
The first introduction of Area 33, another highlight! 8/10
Rogue
A good idea to have a Cop discover Clark's secret but could have been better done! 6/10
Shimmer
Wasn't too keen on The Invisible man but still ok I guess! 5/10
HUG
The story of two Salesman with Powers... one who abuses them and the other who wants to help people, awesome episode! 8/10
LEECH
Eric Summers gets Clark's powers by accident! 8/10
Kinetic
One of the worst of the season and destroyed Whitney as a character! 4/10
Zero
Noir styled Crime thriller! Ok but not greak, Lex was cool though! 5/10
NICODEMUS
Be careful of what flowers you sniff! 8/10
STRAY
The introduction of one of the coollest early season characters, Ryan! 8/10
Reaper
Starts ok with a guy who can kill people by touching them, that's until he becomes another crazy FOTW! 5/10
Drone
One of the worst of the Season, Bee Lady sucks! 3/10
Crush
A young crazed artist who can draw things and make them true... LAME! 4/10
Obscura
Has some cool stuff with Lex and Lionel! 6/10
TEMPEST
No not the same Tempest in LNC:lol: but Lana goes all wurlpooly! 8/10
So to recap!
1x 9/10
9x 8/10
1x 7/10
3x 6/10
4x 5/10
2x 4/10
1x 3/10
Average= 6½/10
or above average, for those who care!
Overall, a really enjoyable season, there's some great character development between Clark, Lana, Lex, Lionel, Jonathan and Martha. Pete and Chloe (The real Lana:D) make welcomable additions also, especially Chloe!
There are some weak episodes that are mainly FOTW filler but even those are watchable in an overall great opening season!
If I could grade this I'd give it a low B, which is still cool!:D

Okay, I'll try my hand at giving the Season 1 episodes ratings, too...
PILOT
Clark Kent arrives in the Smallville meteor shower, Lex Luthor loses his hair, and Lana Lang's parents get squashed by a meteor. Plus, electrically-powered long coma cases, the awesome introduction of the intrepid Chloe Sullivan, and more incredible acting. YAY, Pilot episode!
10/10
Metamorphosis
Bugboy molts, eats, and tries to mate with Lana Lang, but gets squished in a factory. Eww. Not one of my faves, even though some of the effects were semi-cool.
3/10
HOTHEAD
Coach Walt Arnold has a blazin' hot temper, and the Torch is evidence of that very fact! Plus, Clark learns he shouldn't go to the meteor rock sauna anymore.
5/10
X-RAY
I liked the introduction of one of Clark's other abilities, and how it helped him solve the crime, but seriously, meteor rock in Tina Greer's bones? And her unhealthy obsession with Lana? Not my fave episode.
4/10
COOL
Sean Kelvin doesn't exactly live up to the coolness of Iceman, but this episode was one of the first chances for Chloe to get more of a chance to shine, so for that, it gets a slightly higher rating than some of the others.
6/10
HOURGLASS
Harry Volk, a geriatric secret murderer falls in a koi pond and it ends up being like a Fountain of Youth! One of his first targets: Martha Kent?!
7/10
CRAVING
The only saving grace of an otherwise gross-out, binge-eating, deer-fat-sucking episode was that Amy Adams played the FOTW. It still doesn't do this episode many favors, though.
2/10
JITTERS
Earl Jenkins is shakin', rattlin', and rock 'n rollin' mad at Luthorcorp for something mysterious called Level 3. Dun-dun-DUN! Very action-packed, well-paced... I enjoyed it.
8/10
ROGUE
Sam Phelan is a dirty cop who discovers Clark's secret and tries to blackmail him into doing some dirty deeds! Pretty cool departure from the FOTW norm!
8/10
SHIMMER
Invisible Dude attacks Lex's current backstabbing British flame, but everyone thinks it's his clingy, stalker-ish sister. Uhh, okay.
6/10
HUG
I LOVE Kyle Tippet. GREAT character that should've had a return appearance. Plus, the first on-screen Chlark kiss and the evil of Bob Rickman. And, more horseback riding!
9/10
LEECH
Eric Summers (wow, why does he look so much like Jimmy Olsen?) steals Clark's powers when he tries to jump off a dam and gets shocked by lightning as Clark saves him. He's no real Superboy... watch out, C.K.!
10/10
KINETIC
Whitney takes center stage as he joins some intangible jocks (thanks to Kryptonite tattoos?!) in their walk on the wild side. Luckily, he eventually gets cold feet and helps Clark save the day.
4/10
ZERO
This was undoubtedly one of the darkest episodes of Season 1, but it had some VERY cool moments, and it delved into Lex's gray backstory, in his night club-frequenting days pre-Smallville. It's hard to know what to believe, but that's what makes this story interesting.
7/10
NICODEMUS
One of the first personality-change episodes: Jonathan's MAD, Lana's stripping and jumping into swimming pools, and Pete goes after the Luthors with a vengeance! Still, not my favorite episode.
4/10
STRAY
Ryan James comes to Smallville! Yay for Li'l Psychic Sidekick!!! Why couldn't he have come back for an ARC of episodes and not just a swan song in Season 2? :(
10/10
REAPER
A guy tries to help his mom commit suicide and falls out of a window and dies. He then becomes the undead dude who tries to mercy-kill folks by turning them into ashes. I call it: Craving v. 2 (without the deer-sucking or good acting of Amy Adams)!
1/10
DRONE
Sasha Woodman knows the buzz about this year's Class President election. Will Clark Kent become the Man of Tomorrow, or will he feel the sting of defeat thanks to Sasha's swarm? Who really cares?!
3/10
CRUSH
A character from the O.C. visits Smallville! Well, actually, the O.C. wasn't around yet, but still, Adam Brody plays Justin Gaines, a telekinetic wacko who falls for Chloe Sullivan and then tries to chop her with a chainsaw! Luckily, Clark Kent saves the lovely lass, and learns that love may be in the air between himself an a certain hot blond reporter. Me likey!
8/10
OBSCURA
Lana Lang sees dead people! Well, not really. She sees visions through a creepy dude's eyes -- a dude who kidnaps Chloe, buries her alive, and then tries to kill Lana herself when she gets to close to figuring out that he's really... Deputy Watts! NOOOO! Just kidding. Anyway, for pure Chlarky goodness, this gets a high rating from me.
9/10
TEMPEST
Seriously, this really set the bar high for season finales on Smallville! I LOVED the climactic nature of it... The dance, the tornadoes, Roger Nixon discovering the ship, the octagonal key, the ship actually OPENING, Whitney leaving Smallville, the almost Chlark kiss, Lana getting sucked into a tornado since she doesn't know to get into a ditch when outdoors in bad weather in KANSAS... Incredible stuff.
10/10
So, here's my score breakdown:
4x 10/10
2x 9/10
3x 8/10
2x 7/10
2x 6/10
1x 5/10
3x 4/10
2x 3/10
1x 2/10
1x 1/10
Average: 6.38/10
A little bit above average!
It was a pretty good starter to the show, I'll have to admit, but the Freak of the Week plot device got reeeeeeaally old by Season 1's end. Still, there was some great opening characterization, and I came to heartily enjoy all the relationships that developed between the main characters. Jonathan and Martha were nurturing and encouraging (and occasionally lecturing) mentors and loving parents to our someday Superman. Lana and Clark showed hints of romance, and Clana wasn't the least bit annoying yet. Lex and Clark forged a doomed friendship, but it was awesome in this season. Chloe Sullivan is introduced as what is undoubtedly one of the BEST TV characters of ALL TIME! :D
Yup, I really enjoyed this season, though maybe not as much as Seasons 2 or 3. C+ or B- at the highest.
