What happened from the start of the show to the first commercials? I got out of work late.

Lois dropped Mrs. Kent off in her brand new car. As MommaKent walked to the house, some light appeared in the sky and exploded in a flash before her. Clark saw the light and heard the explosion and went out to find his mother on the ground. She had no recollection of what happened.
