I am all for Lex becoming fully evil on Smallville, and tonight did that. Everything was perfect, but this Lex on Smallville knows all about Clark. He isn't an idiot. There were so many times tonight where he would make sarcastic remarks that told the audience he knew Clark was lieing and he knew what Clark was doing and had done. He knows Clark is special. If he were to see Tom Welling as Clark Kent in the Superman costume right now he would put two and two together. If the creators are going to walk that thin line then they need to just cross it and not worry about the future mythos and how Smallville ties in; because right now the mythos could never connect to the future Superman we all know and love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think in the series finale, Clark is going to give Lex the Super Kiss that he gave Lois at the end up Superman 2, he'll forget everything and all will be well in the Smallville universe.

I think can know everything. I think DC gave the ok on that since now he knows everything in the comics. Besides how can he not know. Superman doesnt have the greatest disguise, especially when Lex has seen Clark without his glasses. ;)

Yeah, in the Birthright series Lex knows right away.

Lex knew Superman's identity in the comics? Was he noble enough not to go after Clark himself, but rather just picked fights with Supes?

Who can understand the psyche of a madman?

I dont think Noble and Lex Luthor should be used in the same sentance.

Excerpts from Dreamwatch Magazine's interviews with Smallville's Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum. Both actors talk about the deteriorating friendship between Clark and Lex in Season 5:

Tom : "I think Lex is actually withholding information from people, but I’m not sure he’s ‘bad’. I don’t think he’s taken the big leap. I’m sure when we get to the season finale and look back we’ll be able to see clearly. He’s trying to understand what is going on. He has his own objectives and intentions, but I don’t necessarily see him out to hurt anyone."

Michael : "He knows Clark’s lying. Previous years it’s been, ‘is he being honest with me?’ Now it’s just, ‘You’re making me look like a fool, boy.’ It’s time to treat him like the boy he is, for Lex to redeem himself from looking stupid. Now it’s, ‘You’re lying to me. I’m gonna hunt you down and get to the bottom of everything.’ This could be a nice opportunity – the chase is on!"

Great excerpts. I think Tom's right, Lex isnt really out to hurt anyone, except maybe chloe.

But given the oppurtunity i dont think Lex would hurt Clark. And becuase of that he's not fully evil yet imo.

Thanks for the excerpts, Small2. I do agree with Tom, and you know those comments are exactly the same as in this year's premiere issue of "Smallville Magazine," so definitely people will be reading it, and hopefully taking what he's saying. Because for me, I don't think Lex is evil right now either. He just seems so very frustrated. He's like thisclose to knowing everything - and yet he gets stonewalled every time. Just like tonight. He sees those two streams in the water. He doesn't flip out, but he knows. But how does he prove it? Lex said just as much tonight when torturing A.C. in that he has a thirst for knowledge. I think that's how they should write him. He's not evil. He's just used to knowing everything and the fact that there's this secret/mystery out there - frustrates him to no end.

I don't think he would hurt anyone really now. I know he won't hurt Lana and I believe he wouldn't hurt Clark, if presented with the choice lets say of a) saving him or b) not. I know Lex would choose "a".

And Michael's comments too - they're honest and a reflection of what we've been saying. I mean, how many times can Lex look the other way? Accept Clark's explanation? Clark cut Lex off tonight as far as Lex's "lies", but I'm pretty certain Lex has tuned out Clark's excuses for some time now. His comment in Arrival: "I'm beginning to think that lying is an unshakeable habit of yours."

Oh Lex. I don't think you're evil. ITA with Tom. :)

To me the only thing beter then the struggle between a super hero and a villain, is a struggle that the villain knows the hero's true identity. Whats the big deal with that! It makes the story beter to me. I love it when the villain knows but doesn't confront the hero about it (at least not first). Doesn't run out and tell the world because he has his own plan on how to deal with it. Acts normal around the hero, but drops a couple of hints now and then when they aren't wearing the mask (or in this case, when they are wearing the glasses). Then when the hero does find out that the villain knows about them, they are affraid, and the villain feeds on it. The hero, and the viewer, doesn't know what the villain is going to do. After that the villain still acts normal around the regular ego of the hero, and the hero is force to do the same. They each puts on a new mask around each other, waiting who is going to make the first move.

It may not be the traditional Superman Mytho, but people shouldn't fear or reject change. Of course thats my opinion.

Lex: "You called me a tool."

Aquaman: (At some point) "Lex, you're a tool."

Lex: "You might be a big fish in the water, but up here I'm the shark."

rofl i just love this!

i love lex such a good actor!

Michael Rosenbaum is portraying Lex beautifully. Must be learning from Glover!

He is still a ways from being evil, but is definitely getting there.

The weapon he was developing could easily be shown to be something positive. It was to protect his country and help ensure it's well being. It was it's supremacy and the trade-offs that were bad, and his callous disregard of anything other than himself that shows his darkside.

I thought the weapon used was a good choice.
