This guy is so lame . . . I mean common his perky white teeth, his orange and green outfit. The Flash was represented way better, this guy is even more cocky then Bart . . .

well Aquaman's outfit was an orange scaleish looking shirt and green pants. They needed to tone it down into a teenage look. Also, about the white teeth... umm EVERYONE on the cast has bleach white teeth. His smile just happens to show more tooth than everyone else.

Yeah, he's a bit too much... I don't think I like him. But, there's a half an hour to go still. I especially don't like him pushing around Clark under the water..

And there's just something "fishy" about him...

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I like Aquaman as a character, but the guy that played him wasn't that great of an actor

I agree captain cold.. I like the Aquaman character, but this guy is lame. The Smallville character is NOTHING like the comic character. But, I didn't expect him to be... :(

I agree. The character was written well, but words can only go so far. The actor had a good body, but his acting...

Maybe part of casting was getting a buff guy who could also perform well underwater. That's a tall order and honestly if he'd been a good actor but a weak swimmer I'd have been just as dissapointed.

10-20-2005, 10:25 PM
But, the didn't really show him swimming at all. We saw him tread water a few times. And he was "sitting" underwater for a while - that doesn't really require any "swimming" skills...

The character was funny, I thought. Alan's acting wasn't that great, but this was really one of his first appearances on TV, so I can forgive him.

HIS MUSCLES... OOOooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Bad news is, though, that no one on the show should be more buff than Clark... And Arthur "A.C." Curry, shall we say, blew Clark out of the water. ;)

He reminded me of a couple of really cocky jocks that I knew back in high school. And I think the actor played that type well.

ohhh he was hilarious!!! The way he was flirting with Lois was just so lame. But then again, Clark's flirting with all the girls he had been with was lame as well.

I thought that the character was well written as well. Though I don't think the actor was that great but I felt the writing was very strong and that this episode, much like Run was one of the best of the series. Even though there were times when the acting sort of took me out of the scene I still dug how the character of Arthur effected Clark and there were a lot of great scenes in this episode (especially with Lex and Lois but that is for another thread). I thought he was totally like the Aquaman from the comics. Atleast how I picture Arthur pre - Aquaman. He still has strong convictions but still had many teenage habits which just like Clark will one day change. So yeah I dug this version of Aquaman despite the acting job (I believe said actor will improve with time).

I liked him This is like his first acting gig so you have to cut him a little slack. Aquaman is alittle more outgoing than Clark he started flirting with Lois the second she was consious, Clark would never do that , the guy told off Lex and you know Clark is feeling the same way

With all the stunts they had to do underwater, I'm sure they shot most of the scenes dry-for-wet (filmed them on green screen, added water in digitally).

A.C.'s flirting was a lot like RedK Clark's... Lana: "So I saw you give Jessie a ride to school today..."
Clark: "Say the word, and I'll save you the return trip..."

Clark: "I have a hot date tonight, and I want to rock her world!"

ROFL. Of course, Clark was on what amounts to drugs.......... And A.C. was just being himself....... ;)

Wait did Red K clark really say that?

After rewatching the ep, Alan Ritchson really wasnt that good. They did give him kinda jocky lines but they did that to Kyle (Bart) and he pulled them off.

He wasn't bad, but he really wasn't good either, just "eh". AC's movements felt really stiff, and it didn't track well with his wanna be cool dialogue. Since it is pretty much his first acting gig I won't go as far to say that he was terrible, just so-so.

I think Brianiac and Evil Lex ruled the night in my opinion.

I think he tried too hard to act. I bet he was sitting around the TV tonight Hi Fiving all his friends say "whoa, look at me, Im on TV and I look so Buff"

Then when he was watching the scene with him and Lois, he was probably like "oh yeah, that chick was so into me, she wanted me baddd"

I've heard both this and people saying bo a lot when I lived in Miami so I though at least that much was good representation. I did not like the char though. The flash was so much better. This pool should be who do you like better? Bart or AC.

I don't think he was the best actor, but I don't that all of the problem was acting. In some instances it was the script that wasn't good. Good acting wouldn't have made a difference.

I agree with ma200 he reminded me of the jocks I knew in high school. Honestly I think he fit that role perfectly. And let's face it, Aquaman is an arrogant cuss. This character seemed consistent with that. I think if you took a guy that wasn't a jock, and tried to make him act like a jock, that might be an issue. But seriously, this guy totally fit that role.

That thought occured to me when Prof Fine said, "I'm not into hiring someone who changes their mind as often as they change their clothes". Clark has like 3 different outfits, and more often he'll wear the red jacket with the blue t-shirt! I actually wondered if Fine was being sarcastic!

Craig, shame on you for not realizing polls on this site tend to be a little biased as far as thread titles go. ;)

I don't like feet, so I don't like flip flops. But really, if you think about it, A.C.'s horrible orange and green wasn't any worse than the 80 billion plaid ensembles Clark's worn.

There were things I liked and things I didn't like. First of all the good:

He was a Marine Biology activist, which I would expect from Aquaman. He reminded me of myself when it comes to the world's oceans.

The Bad:

Too muscular. Not only does it not make sense physically, it's not pleasing to look at. Not only do most swimmers not have bodies like that, but that's a bad body for efficent and fast swimming. Besides, too much muscle doesn't look human, and he was like that.

The University of Miami. Now, don't get me wrong, I greatly respect the school and the Hurricane teams, but a little research by the writers would have led them to a better school for Mr. Curray.

Auburn University is the TOP swimming school in the nation, holding the last three national swimming titles on the men's side and holds 8 total National Titles, men's and women's. The men's team won the NT in 2005 while the Women came in a heart breaking second to UGA. Miami has two national swimming titles, both women, the last won won in 1976.

Auburn also has one of the TOP Marine Biology programs in the Nation. Miami is also good, but most people you talk to would rank Auburn slightly higher.
Sure, it's a ways from the ocean, but so is Kansas :p. Besides, we have two Marine Labs on the Alabama gulf coast.

Sharkie-- WELCOME BACK!!!! :) That aside...

His muscles were bad to look at??? Not human looking?! WHHHHHAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT?

I get what you're saying about too many muscles for a swimmer (swimmers are supposed to be more lean, but still muscular, so they don't have so much water resistance)...... BUT SHARKIE, DUDE LOOKED GORGEOUS WITH THOSE MUSCLES!!! I officially dub thee a silly, silly man. :) Hee. Or maybe I just like muscular men!!! ;)

If you think about it, though, A.C. could have whatever kind of build he would want.... The typical "swimmers need lean bodies to cut down on water resistance" thing wouldn't apply to him because he has SUPERPOWERS. He could eat and eat and eat until he was like one of those 1,000-pound men who has to be literally forklifted out of his house, but put him in the water, and he'd still be hella fast just because he has superpowers. Plus, odds are, Aquaman's physique probably gets pumped really easily (like Superman's is SUPPOSED to, although those shots in "Aqua" seemed to indicate otherwise). Kinda like how Clark ate whatever he wanted in "Lois & Clark" and it didn't mess up his stunning physique.

I think I'm rambling now because these thoughts of wet, shirtless men are getting to my brain. Oooo...

Well, I like muscle, but too much looks weird to me. If he toned down a little bit he'd be fairly attractive. And when he flexed trying to escape, he looked constapated.

But, true, that's a good point about his powers, though you'd think they'd be investigating him for steriods being a great swimmer looking like that.

shirkie
10-23-2005, 12:02 AM
I dunno, I honestly don't find his face all that attractive... But those muscles... Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

And yes, they could investigate him for steroids, but because his skin is normal, they COULD take blood from him (unlike Clark) or urine and it would be clean and everything, so that prolly wouldn't be too much of an issue. Of course, he's no longer at Miami anymore... Wonder what his coach would be thinking about his star swimmer just disappearing?

Hmm... I wonder if his teeth are designed to provide light in the dark depths of the ocean, like that piranha-type fish shown in Finding Nemo...

Diver 1: "Pretty dark down here"
Diver 2: "I don't think there's any forms of life"
<Aquaman's white teeth slowly appear out of the darkness>
Diver 1: "Is it a shark? A whale?"
Diver 2: "I don't know, but it's gonna try to eat us!"
<Divers quickly swim off>
Aquaman: "I was only going to say hello...."

10-27-2005, 11:55 AM
Ehhhhhhhhhhhh that's not necessarily true. If Aquaman was less one-dimensional, or ED and AR had better chemistry together, it'd be one thing, but the Aquaman/Lois pairing just didn't work.

YES! Strangely enough my brother wears flip flops and shorts and a tank or tee shirt all the time and is a total jock. Except at work. Of course he lives in Hawaii, but Florida is Hawaii kind of. I thought maybe they were different clothes in the same school colors and swimming team gear. How long was the episode suppose to take place in. I can't remember.
