well, his mom was a mermaid, so he is an exceptional swimmer. and he's faster than clark, in the trailer clark says so. smallville seems to be adding a new,and cool, power, that is he can create some kind of water-energy ball and hit ppl with it. again, in the trailer it knocks clark right out of the water. also he can talk to fish, i believe. i'm not really sure what else

Underwater, above water, you name it. This is the humble origin of the valiant hero who shall one day be...
...repeatedly rescued every week by the OTHER Super Friends. ;)

yeah. he's kind of useless when anything bad happens above water, which is a lot more than in water.

well if you read AR interview he says:we decided he could have some greater abilities. So, he's got the ability to generate the energy balls underwater, and of course, he can still talk to fishes and all that, and he's got the super speed, and the super strength. So, I think he is a worthy character, as far as our depiction goes.

Whoa...a man who can talk to fish...I wonder if he's seeing anybody?

the trailer with the water orb was kool. talking to sea creatures can have many benifits. they can tell you where a sunken ship with a treasure chest is located. then can tell someone when a rip tide or tidal wave will occur. it will be like finding nemo only with a human.

I think you're assuming fish have a lot more to say than they probably do. I mean, gorrillas are a lot more intelligent than fish, and when we taught one sign language, all she had to say was "Bananna good, give bananna."
Other than dolphins who, being mammals, might fall outside of Aquaman's expertise anyway, Most fish probably think very little about sunken treasure. They probably think more along the lines of "swimswimswimswimswim." Which is about at Aquaman's level of general intellect, if you think about it.

I'm glad I've never seen the Superfriends (not since I was very small anyway). Aquaman is cool in Justice League.

That was gold, thanks for that :rotfl:
Aquaman is the Justice League's b*tch - his sole purpose for existing is to make everyone elses powers seem less lame. [cough Green Lantern cough]
Green Lantern... he 'is' DC right, i'm not having a hemorrhage am i?

I think he can just control fish. Can't really "talk" to them.
Although dolphins and whales, they have good crack together.

He is King of Atlantis. He is very good at hand to hand combat. Can handle temp. and pressure, swins 100mph and does communicate w/sea life with telepathy......I think he also has sonar for dark waters..........I don't know how long but he has to return to water. I believe he has gills.

That's hilarious. I vaguely remember reading about him. Never knew he was the 98-lb weakling as far as the other Leaguers were concerned.

Yes, Green Lantern is in Justice League :) Along with Hawk Girl, Wonder Woman, Batman, The Flash, some other guy from Mars, and Superman.
I have no recollection of Aquaman myself, but who cares; Superman will remain my favorite super-hero :D

I'm not familiar with Aquaman but I'll look into him. He seems very cool (if you like the whole marine life that is).

Or you may be talking about The Man From Atlantis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_from_Atlantis).

Isn't he just like the man from atlantis. Didn't Patrick duffy play that role in the 80's? he should do a cameo, haha

actually if you want to have one more powerful then the other, i think Aquaman is stronger... cause when he is on land his powers don't become weaker, as for Namor when he is on land his powers get weaker like his strength for example will not be nearly what is should be when underwater, so Aquaman wins when on land and of course when underwater, but they both aren't all that great, and on the subject of Aquaman not being in the Justice League anymore that is due to an embargo, there is currently a Aquaman movie in the works starring Many Moore? wtf??? you heard it
Not that anyone really cares to have Aquaman on Justice League anyway that's the reason for his absence

Has nayone here ever actually read an aquaman comic. What, no? Didn't think so. In the comics he's been portrayed as being about as far from the JLA's beotch as Superman is.
He's invulnerable to most physical harm, heck, he's tougher than wonder woman, something most DC heroes aren't. He's superstrong, along the lines of wonder woman, a woman who at times has given superman a run for his money. He does talk to fish, but also all marine life, on a broader telepathic scale than simply rading their thoughts. He picks up on thier emotions, and concerns and everything. He rules 3/4 of the planet earth. And he can control water now too, thanks to his new hand, and latent magical abilities. He's never been a pushover comics wise, and is infact the JLA's bada$$ character. He hasn't ever put up with crap from anyone, and he's proven more valuable than some other leaguers have ever been.

In the comics, did Aquaman also throw energy balls underwater or is that something new that Almiles came up with in Smallville?

Isn't his strength level a recent development. My recollections of Aquaman's powers originally did not include super strength. He employed the aid of larger sea-creatures when strength was needed.
I'm fairly certain he could throw water spheres in earlier animated icarnations (Superman / Aquaman, Superfriends etc.)

how do you figure that? he has super stregnth while above water.

He's pretty much always had super stregnth to some degree. Granted it's been upped a bit over the years. He gets his stregnth due to the nature of his habitat. The Atlantians evolving over the years developed hardened muscles that were stronger than a normal humans. They became harder and stronger so they could deal with the intense waterpressure that comes with living at the bottom of the ocean.

Anyone who's actually watched some of the early Aquaman cartoons in the 70's or even the Superfriends will recognize the "energy balls" as being one of his tricks back then. He'd basically make a projectile of water and hurl them at enemies. Doesn't sound like much, but it's like firing cannonballs, basically.
He's always been superstrong and supertough, and he's not neccessarily useless, but back in the day the Superfriends cartoon, nobody was allowed to punch anyone, and all the villains were superpowered, too, so it's not like Aquaman is going to stick out as much. But in the comics he's been more impressive.

Aquaman never had that power on the Super Friends cartoons which Hanna-Barbera made in the '70s and '80s. Only the short Aquaman cartoons made by Filmation in the '60s (that are now run sometimes on the cable channel Boomerang, I think) did he have that water-cannonball power.
But Aquaman's wife Mera had a very similar power in the Aquaman comics -- that may be where Filmation got the idea: perhaps somebody read one of the comics, saw her do it, and then wrote the ability into the cartoon assuming that whatever Mera could do, Aquaman could too.
I was very surprised to see A.C. suddenly bust out this wacky power. Shows where the "Smallville" writers are getting their ideas. ;)

Ah yeah the Filmation cartoons I definitely recall him using those powers. That's cool though - I am glad to see some versatility for Aquaman.
