...is the name of a new spin-off Doctor Who series! I figured it'd need its own thread since the Dr Who one is popular enough on its own.
Find out about the show at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/4349120.stm
and then tell us what you think.
I think it's great they're giving Captain Jack something to do, and at least it should be better than the last Dr Who spin-off, "K-9 and Company";)
Barrowman's already proved himself perfect in the role, though a bit annoyed about them using Cardiff again - I know the city so well it was daft seeing being used for London etc. and now it'll be on the screen every week so just how bad will Dr Who look? :D

Who says K9 won't show up on Torchwood though? He WILL be on the regular Doctor Who series, after all ;)
I was watching the Bad Wolf episode the other night, and during the Weakest Link scene, one of the answers was "Torchwood!" Why do I think this was planned all along?

John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Naoko Mori and Burn Gorman star in the new BBC spin off series 'Torchwood', which tells the story of a government controlled group aiming to capture alien technology for the benefit and advancement of mankind.
A spin-off series to Dr Who, it will star John Barrowman as Captain Jack, a character first seen in the come-back series of Dr Who last year. It is to be shown this autumn on BBC3 initially and is intended to be darker and more adult oriented than Dr Who.
Elisabeth Sladen, who played Sarah Jane Smith, a companion to both John Pertwee and Tom Baker's Dr's, and who appeared in an episode earlier in this series, has said in an interview that we have seen the last of her character in Dr Who, but not necessarily the last of Sarah Jane Smith. Does this mean she will return in 'Torchwood'?
Will 'Torchwood' be a hit, or will it go the way of 'K9 & Friends' to the great spin-off graveyard in the sky?
What do you think?

After tonight's Dr Who they showed a preview of next week's episode. Looks like Torchwood will be heavily involved.

LOL, whats so bad about Cardiff?
I'm excited about Torchwood, especially since its gonna have Captian Jack! The first ep of any Doctor Who I ever watched was The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances on SciFi and I immediatly fell in "lust" with Captian Jack. ;)
I just hope I will be able to actually watch Torchwood! I have someone who is kind enough to help me watch the new Doctor Who - the one with David Tennett - I hope they'll help me out with the Torchwood eps as well.
So is Doctor Who still going to air while Torchwood does - kinda like Buffy/Angel did, or is Torchwood all that is gonna air next year?

When does this actually start?
October. Though have also heard September.
Oh and Craig, "Torchwood" wasn't planned all along, the name was used on the side of tapes of early episodes of the recent 2 series of DW to hide their real contents. RTD thought it was such a good name it all sprange from there. No word yet on whether early Torchwood episodes are hidden with "Kandanpomcy9" ;)
RedPhoenix, nowt wrong with Cardiff per sé, just got annoyed when they say it's "London" when it's clearly the old market place, outside the St. David's centre etc.
Although news that one episode features a chase through the streets of Splott sounds class!
(Yes, I know I quit the site but in a new job with internet access, so peruse on occasion - seeing as this is my thread originally and all figured I'd drop by ;))

I dont know if you knew this but Torchwood was used to disguise the Dr Who masters because it is an anagram of Doctor Who.
Heh, yes. Didn't you spot my line "No word yet on whether early Torchwood episodes are hidden with "Kandanpomcy9" "? ;)

Sorry - missed it - shouldn't really post while I'm at work - too many distractions!
Torchwood now confirmed as starting "Late October" - so what are K-site's Who fans hoping from it? There's been relatively little in the way of spoilers, so it'll be interesting to see what people are expecting.
Anyone see last night's show? Talk about a "Love & Monsters" episode! At least it was slightly better...

Ack. On the whole I felt the series was just b-o-r-e-i-n-g. Plus the fact that they took the ENTIRE SERIES to give any kind of pay off to Captain Jack/Doctor thing was annoying. Worst yet, he runs off with The Doctor at the very last second with no explantion at all to his team or the audience and that's just wrong. Plus, all the Torchwood staff were whiners, lol. They'd get along great with Clark. If they are sooo lonely, then why don't they just f---ing hang out with eachother? You know, girls shopping day Tosh and Gwen. Movie night with everyone that's off that night. Celebrate Christmas with eachother. Seriously, there are worst things to be crying about all the time.

****MINOR SPOILERS****
S2 Information finally been confirmed:
As taken from http://www.sfx.co.uk/page/sfx?entry=torchwood_latest:
The Beeb have finally confirmed that Buffy and Angel star James Marsters is making a guest appearance in the first episode, and released the (picture below), which we imagine will have inspired about 5000 slash fiction stories by tomorrow morning.
Says Marsters, "I am a huge fan of
Doctor Who and Torchwood so it was me who knocked on their door... I am really excited about the character I am playing. I can't say too much about him, except he is naughty and a bit of a psychopath."
“Naughty”? We’re guessing that’s an understatement. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Barrowman comments, “There’s a scene between he and Jack when they first meet... all I’ll say is, this scene is so hot, so horny, so violent, that all the fans who watch it are going to [censored!]”
Calm down, ladies. And some of you gents.
Another guest star confirmed is Alan Dale – best known initially for his role as Jim Robinson on Neighbours, but latterly for his roles in shows like Ugly Betty, The West Wing, The O.C. and 24.
Russell T Davies also teases some of the storylines, which will include:
“Torchwood's encounter with a rogue Time Agent; a tragic time-slip from World War One; and a memory-thief who uncovers long-forgotten secrets among the entire team”. Could Marsters’s character be the “rogue Time Agent”, do you think? Odds-on, we reckon.
Finally, here’s a list of all the writers for the second season:
Chris Chibnall: co-producer of the show, obviously.
Catherine Tregenna: writer of season one’s “Out of Time” and “Captain Jack Harkness”.
Helen Raynor: script editor of Doctor Who; writer of 2007’s Dalek two-parter and last year’s “Ghost Machine”.
James Moran: writer of the horror flick Severance – and an episode of Doctor Who season four.
Joseph Lidster: writer of several of Big Finish’s range of Doctor Who audio adventures.
PJ Hammond: creator of Sapphire and Steel and writer of last year’s “Small Worlds”. (Bet his is the one about “a tragic time-slip from World War One”!)
JC Wilsher: has written for loads of shows, including New Tricks, Dalziel and Pascoe and The Bill.
Matt Jones: executive producer of Shameless and writer of Doctor Who’s “The Impossible Planet”/“The Satan Pit”.
Torchwood season two will air on BBC Two in Spring 2008.

Spoilers:
Apparently, Jack and JM's character will be snogging.
Here's a quote from fenchurche at LJ. She attended the Q&A at dragon*con
JM was talking about his character's first scene on the show and that it involved a barfight and a kiss... and gave the impression that we'd be seen a rather spectacular fight, ending with him and Captain Jack in a liplock (JM was trying very hard not to reveal too much, but let a few things slip about that scene). I've now got this wonderful mental image of how it would play out and I'm REALLY hoping it works out that way... with the two of them fighting, not really against each other, and with us not knowing who this other person is... and the two of them ending up nose to nose in the middle of it all, with the adrenaline of the fight swirling around.
When JM first got on the set of Torchwood, he was evidently more than a little freaked out about his first guy on guy kiss (which he said surprised him a bit, because he hadn't thought it would bother him at all), and it didn't help that John Barrowman really is a bit of a lech... and likes to grab people on set (men, women, doesn't seem to make a difference -- butts, breasts, you name it). It apparently got back to JB that JM was maybe a bit freaked, and JM said that JB was totally cool when it came to the kissing scene... wanting to make sure he was comfortable with it, and really worked with him on it... and JM said, really, it was no big deal. Just scratchier than kissing a woman.

Torchwood? If you havea region free DVD, you can order it from amazon now, but torchwood is only 13 episodes so you'll probably see it around about the time the last ep airs in the states.
And a full box set of S1 is available in Region 2 in November I think I read. Maybe October.

I see, very unlikely indeed. Series 4 is then my hope, love his character. And Gray, oh yes, him I'd definitely like to see in action again. The history of our supposed Jack Harkness isn't over yet, and I have a feeling neither is Gray Harkness's story. If Series 3 isn't it, then definitely series 4.

The show's switching channels, and RTD is leaving. They need a short, sweet, straight to the point mini-flick to secure ratings for the new channel, and if they survive the five hour flick, they'll hopefully continue and pull off a fourth series. Like I said before, Capn. John Hart for series four! :D Though that actor leaving rumor's still hanging around.

Well, they've done 2 in Canada, but other than that no. Ever since they built the new Wembley, rumours start flying around this time that next years Mania will be there, but it never is. I think SummerSlam is the best chance we'll have of a PPV in the UK.

I used to watch old age wrestling. I think it was called WCW? Or was it WWF? Hopefully they can make one somewhere in London, that's a subway ride away from here.
As for Torchwood, I pray vehemently it airs before June.

They'll never hold Mania outside the North American time zone. It'd be suicide with the buy rates, as too many would stream it these days. Same with a big 4 PPV now - our best chance is a minor PPV.
Big rumour going round that a TNA PPV's going to be held here though - that'd be a great idea and raise its profile over here significantly I'm sure.

I don't know, I think its possible they would give us Summerslam, like they did in 92, show it live over here while taping it and showing it later in the states. Not a fan of TNA, now Christian's back in WWE there's no reason to watch.
This is seriously off topic.
So...yeah...Torchwood and stuff.
Actually, Summerslam wasn't shown live over here. Trust me, I was there ;)

Wasn't it? Isn't that kind of the point of bringing the show over?
I wouldn't know, I was 2 years old at the time. My cousins were there though, you can see them during the Shawn Michaels match. The best I've ever been to is the WrestleMania Revenge Tour. I'm waiting for a RAW in Manchester to coincide with me having enough money to buy a decent ticket, but it hasn't so far.:\
I was 14. It was shown the next day, minus four matches we'd got to see live (not just dark matches, actually in the middle of the show!). Great day out though.

I can't believe I'm just discovering this show! It is brilliant! Too bad I don't get BBCA. :(
I'm not yet done with season 1, but it's good to know I have more seasons to look forward to.

Haven't seen any Torchwood...is it worth catching up on the first two seasons before the third airs, d'ya think?
In my opinion, Torchwood is the best thing to happen to television (and possibly to the universe) in a Very Long Time so yeah I'd recommend watching:cool: It is such an awesome show and I love everything about it ... I'm kind of unsure how season 3 will start after the dramatic ending of season 2 but, I'm so excited for more Torchwood :D I ordered John Barrowman's autobiography & preordered his next book because I'm just going crazy sitting here waiting for new Torchwood. Man that show sure is addictive. :o Occasionally I think I should get a life, one that doesnt revolve around television or movies but, those little piques of insanity dont last too long, thankfully :rotfl:
So basically yeah I'd say it's worth catching up on Torchwood.

Apologies for double-posting :s I've pre-ordered the three new Torchwood radio plays that will air this summer. Never having heard any of the Torchwood plays I was wondering, do the events & realities in the TV shows parallel the radio plays or are they totally different? The online store has no description or even pics for the three new plays, only the pre-order option.
There's only been one official radio play thus far, which aired towards the end of last year and coincided with the activation (well, initial tests to be picky) of the Large Hardon Collider at CERN. There hasn't been any new TV episodes since then so its part in canon is not specifically known but from what I remember it was meant to be considered a part of the official storyline. I'd guess these new ones will be the same.

Thanks TMLS :) A friend has now revealed the BBC Torchwood website to me ... almost as exciting as discovering the Hub itself lol. I am so excited for the new radio plays, and season 3 of Torchwood too, of course. The trailers look so creepy & awesome :)

*ack* double post again ... :(
But, I'm too excited to not share the fact that I bought the BBC radio play *Lost Souls* and it is awesome :) The TV cast perform the roles on the audio CD which I wasnt expecting (I was thinking generic audiobook actor doing all the voices) The story is really good and well written, I could just close my eyes and picture the scenes.
And, I bought the official Torchwood yearbook, it has a step-by-step episode giude for all of Season 2, as well as some short stories written for the book, as well as cast interviews, making-of's, facts and just a whole lot of cool stuff.

I'm really looking forward to this. Last I heard was that the shows were going to be shown sometime between the 4th and 10th of July, which is good news for me because I go on holiday on the 11th and might have missed the whole thing, and not been back in time to iPlayer it.

I enjoyed Lost Souls, the voice in the tunnel freaked me out. Any news of any more Torchwood plays coming out?
The Doctor Who audiobooks aren't bad either. Will Thorpe, who appeared in Series 2's The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit, narrates some of them and he does a *spot-on* 10th Doctor voice. I'm trying to get my hands on some 8th Doctor radioplays, to get better acquainted with the Liverpool Doctor. :D

I am hoping to buy Lost Souls (I've heard nothing but good things about it) someday.
I knew the cast did their own voices so I figured it would be awesome. And now that's it's available to buy here in the US...*looks at wallet and watches moths fly out* Someday...
The point with that is that it's not an audiobook. It's a full cast Audio Drama broadcast as a play on BBC Radio 4 here. As such, it's basically an audio episode.

I think what quinny06 (and me) was saying, is there are audiobooks as well as the play. I totally hear what you're saying, Lost Souls is an audio episode, where as the other CDs are books being read by one person (Eve Myles reads one, there's another read by Burn Gorman, & some others)

The voices in the tunnel sure were creepy ... at first I dared to hope they were going to bring back their fallen comrades (lol I dont know how to post spoiler tags, & I dont want to specify names in case anyone here didnt see the end of season 2 yet) but, the voices were just too creepy to think they'd really be those people:(
Kind of cool though, how many stories be they movies, TV or whatever, are being set in or around the Large Hadron Collider just now ...
The next three episodes are on BBC Radio 4 on 1 - 3 July, 2.15pm.

The Torchwood plays have finished their run now. They can still be heard on BBC iPlayer for anyone that missed them, and can also be downloaded from here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/torchwood/download/
I've only listened to Asylum so far (now that they can be downloaded I'm saving the other two for a plane journey coming up). Without spoiling anyone who hasn't heard it, I thought it was ok, but not great. I just felt as though it was building to a climax that never really came.
I'd agree with that. Have listened to the second one also, and I'd say that was slightly more disappointing, but much of a muchness to the first one.
Just listened to the third one. Brilliant, far superior to the other two. Great story, and one that's really effective as an audio play. There's a beautiful Ianto moment in there, too.

Yeah I agree. Do you feel like we were *pampered* with Lost Souls (which I thought was so awesome)? It's a tough act to follow such an awesome play. Asylum was interesting but, not great. It was nice but, it just was not (in my opinion) to the same high standard as Lost Souls. Golden Age was better but, still not great. Dead Line however was totally Torchwood-y, it was creepy and spooky and enthraling ...
I've also been listening to some of the Torchwood audiobooks. In The Shadows is read by Eve Myles and is very creepy and really good. The Sin Eaters is read by Gareth David-Lloyd and is awesome. In some ways, the plays and audiobooks are better than the TV show because it seems somehow that they are able to *suggest* more, be it something spooky or something romantic, than on TV. I do of course love the TV shows, too :D
