Ok, so if i'm correct, someone close to clark is still going to die. Now they probably won't die, just narrowly escape. Who do you think it will be? My bet is on either Chloe or Lana.

Well, I think it's Jonathan Kent. But I don't think it will happen right away. It will probably take some time, because it sounds like this will really help Clark 'embrace his destiny' if you know what I mean.
There is a possiblity that it might be Chole, (which I hope it's not!) but if it is, I think that somehow Lex would play a major part in her death, and that is why he and Clark/Superman would end up such bitter enemies, and it would also be a much needed push in the direction of Superman.
But I really think that the death will happen sometime at the end of the series, that way we know for sure that Clark is on his way to donning the cape because he realizes that he is needed in the world in a way that only he can provide, if that makes any sense. :)

Wow! This part made me mad!! but anyways I think it will be Lana possibly at the end of the season because she's not in his life in the OLD superman so maybe this is what happens, but it ' just my quess, i just hope it isn't her. but then it would be :S with Lois so....I DON"T KNOW! but happy guessing

I agree that it will be Jonathan at the end of the season. Whoever dies it will end up being season 5's cliffhanger.

When did superman's parents die in the comics? Was it Jonathan Kent first? I think so... That's what it was in Superman I anyway...
I don't think it can be Chloe because if I am not mistaken, the character Chloe Sullivan was purchased by the current comic creators to be incorporated into current Superman comics. Wouldn't do to kill her now ;)

How about this? Nobody dies!!! Check out spoilers for Episode 5 - "Thirst". Lana is turned into a Vampire. So correct me if my thinking seems flawed, but that seems to meet the requirements. "Someone close to you.............Someone you love...............life force........" it makes perfect sense to me. What do you think?

It have to be pa Kent, if for no other reason, to stop all the lectures.

My guess will be either Jonathan or Chloe, but I'm leaning more towards Jonathan. In the comics and movies, Jonathan has already passed on.
Whoever it is most likely won't die until the end of the season.

Hey, Im kinda disappointed in the spoiler info on Thirst... do us a favor and warn of that stuff and maybe change the font color so you have to highlight to read it. >.<
I need to correct something I said earlier - I thought Jonathon Kent died of a heart attack in the comics and that is incorrect. The Superman Homepage says this about the Kents today:
"Alive and strong, the Kents are Superman and Clark Kent's moral compass."
the closest thing to Death they say Jonathan suffered was a near-death experience from a heart attack where his spirit found the spirit of Superman after he was killed by Doomsday and brought him back..

Jor-El simply stated that Clark would LOSE somebody that he loved or somebody who was close to him. Doesn't necessarily have to mean someone is to die. Maybe this means that he'll lose Lana over the whole ordeal or that (since at one time they were best of friends) he'll lose Lex for good.

Im guess Jonathan Kent or even Martha.

Both Jonathan and Martha are still alive in current comics continuity. In the pre-crisis days both of them are dead by the time Clark is doing the Superman thing. The movies are based of pre-crisis continuity and Jonathan dies in Superman I.
I think it will be Jonathan because this show takes more from pre-crisis superman than post, they have already established the heart condition and its been a reaccuring health issue for the man and plot point. The other thing is that the character of Jonathan has pretty much reached the end of his usefullness.

A good thought that it's not someone who dies, but rather he loses them. Lex? I don't think so. Jor-El said it's someone he loves.
I was screaming NOT CHLOE!!!!!!! But if the BDA truly loved Chloe he'd be with her, right? And man, what a woman...she knows he messed with Lana and she's still there for him....all I can say is I wish I had a woman that true!
Anyway, in the ancient George Reeves 1950s Superman, it was Pa (in this case Eben Kent); and in Chris' movie it was Jonathon. My bet is indeed Jonathon Kent will be the one.
And just in case I can't post anywhere else tonight (dang, the servers don't let me in most of the time), uh, let me mention....THIS WAS A FREAKING GREAT EP!!!!

Chloe or Jonathan would be my immediate pick but I thought of something interesting.
Jor-El seemed to indicate that Clark's 'losing someone (which seems to imply death)' was somehow related to Clark getting his powers back. But if (for example) Chloe dies, what does that have to do with Clark's life force? Then I had this thought. What if Jor-El drained himself so much when he restored Clarks powers, that his time left on earth is limited, and he will be the one to die (Jor-El)? Could that be why Jor-El wanted Clark to always know he loved him?
Just something to add to the mix.

ok... if you guys really love all the characters in the series right now... why not let Pete die... He is Clark's good friend and is considered Family... That way no chemistry is lost between the cast... Series really suffer badly when one of the front runners suddenly leaves...

I sure hope it's Chloe, as other than secondary characters like the Sheriff, she's my least favorite primary character.
However, all bias aside, I do think that she will be killed off by Lex (accident or not), thus progressing the hatred between Lex and Clark to a higher degree.
Bring in Mercy, and a couple of robots and we're set for some real Lex/Clark action!
:D :p

I can't believe no one posted (in this thread at least) another obvious choice........
PETE!
He's never on the show, he's close to Clark cause he knows his secret....and that way he doesn't need to come back....unless of course he makes a guest appearance for a few minutes at a critical situation in an episode that the spoilers won't tell us

If the world were perfect, it would be Lana.
However, since they would never get rid of her, the two obvious choices are either Johnathan or Chloe.
Johnathan always dies. It would tie things in with the overall story.
Chloe is great, and I don't want her to die. However, she does know about Clark, and is expendable in terms of the overall story. She was created specifically for the show.

While a close friend of Clark, he isn't active within Smallville, and, unless they brought him back into the fold, his death wouldn't mean a thing.
And we all know that this death will be meaningful.

I don't think it would be Pete. For most people who watch a show, it is usually out of sight, out of mind. They would want the death to be on someone who is currently on the show and close to Clark at this moment. Having it be Pete wouldn't have a big enough impact.

I agree. Pete would be a cheap cop out. Besides, it would seem that Clark and Pet have been out of contact for a while now.

Plus Pete has a ton of importance in future Superman's life. If it's a death, whoever it is, it's probably not a permenant one. Except maybe Chloe.
