I'm in a peculiar mood, so I'm going to write a little different than I normally do.

This year is 2014. Lois Lane, the beloved wife of Clark Kent, had died only 3 years ago. Clark and his 4 year old son, Kal were on their own. Clark lived in Metropolis, and worked so much he never got to visit his parents in Smallville.

Lana Lang and Pete Ross had gotten a divorce just 1 year ago. There 2 year old daughter, Clara was given to her mother. Lana and her daughter lived in Smallville, Lana still owned the Talon. She visited the Kents often, still feeling like the Kents were like her parents too.

Clark had just gotten home from picking Kal up from day care and sat down at his computer. Kal ran up to him and jumped on his lap. "Hey buddy." said Clark, adjusting his son in his lap.

"Hi daddy." said Kal.

Clark was checking his e-mail when I new one popped up. It was from his mother. She was having a get together for all the old gang, and had asked him to come.

"Is that from Nana, daddy? Can we go see Paw-Paw and his big trucks?"

Clark laughed at his son and sighed. "Sure buddy, we'll go see Nana and Paw-Paw." Kal squeeled with happiness.

Clark and his son pulled up into the Kent Farm the next evening. Martha and Johnathon met him out at his truck.

"Good to see you son." said Johnathon hugging Clark. "And how's my favorite grandson?" asked Johnathon, picking up Kal.

"Paw-Paw, I'm your ONLY grandson." said Kal, hugging his grandpa around the neck.

"I missed you mom." said Clark, hugging his mother.

"We missed you too." said Martha. "C'mon, everyone is around back." said Martha, and they walked behind the Kent house.

Clark was surprised that everyone had made it out already. Johnathon put Kal down and Kal ran towards the group of people. "Aunt Chloe!!" he screamed, running for a short blonde girl on the outskirts of the group.

His son may have only had eyes for Chloe, but Clark had just watched Lana Lang look back at him. Smiling in surprise.

Clark felt guilty the moment he let his thoughts slip to Lana. He had loved Lois, he loved their son. It was too soon. 'It's been 3 years!' yells a part of him. It was still too soon.

Lana had heard a little boy screaming for Chloe. Lana looked over to the boy that was the splitting image of Clark running across the grass. Lana looked back and saw Clark, she was surprised he was here. He only glanced at her a minute, then looked back to the ground. He looked so sad.

Clark walked over to Chloe and his son.

"Glad you're back Clark." said Chloe, hugging Clark.

"I'm only back for a day or two." said Clark, hugging Chloe back.

"Been working non-stop lately?" asked Chloe.

"I've been working enough, why do you ask?" asked Clark.

Chloe motioned to his chin and jaw. Clark ran a hand across it. He had forgotten to shave.

"Ah." said Clark. "A little stubble never hurt no body."

"Clark!" Clark turned towards the voice. It was Pete.

"Hey Pete." said Clark, shaking his hand. "And hello Clara." said Clark, patting the girl by her dad's feet head. Clara started to cry. Pete leaned down and picked her up.

"You've been away too long man." said Pete.

"I've got other things going on in my life right now Pete." said Clark.

"Clark. I know you miss Lois, but greiving over her for the rest of your life isn't going to bring her back." Clark looked to his shoes.

Lana was talking to Martha when she heard her daughter start to cry. She looked over and saw Clark and Pete talking. Clark was smiling at her daughter and her daughter had started to cry.

"Is it me, or is Clark showing signs of grey hair?" asked Chloe, who was walking up to them.

"I'm worried about him." said Martha. "After Lois died, he didn't give himself anytime to grieve. He threw himself into his work."

"Is the Daily Planet giving him all that much work?" asked Lana.

"He has 3 jobs." said Martha.

"THREE!?!" said Chloe.

"He's working himself to the bone, trying to forget. But it's not just going to go away." said Martha. "He needs help."

Lana was watching Clark, concern on her face.

(This is going to be one hell of a post. I don't feel like stopping, so I'm just going to keep going.)

Everyone that was at the Kent's place, knew about Clark's abilities, so Clark wasn't shy about helping his mother clear the plates after dinner. He washed the dishes in 10 seconds flat.

"Thank you sweetheart." said Martha.

"No problem mom." said Clark. After that he decided to spend some time with Kal. "C'mon son." said Clark to Kal, who eagerly followed him back outside. Clark and his son walked a little away from the group. "Okay buddy, wanna play catch?" asked Clark, who had taken a ball from the house.

"You're gonna hit me." said Kal stubbornly.

"No I'm not." said Clark.

"Yes you are." said Kal.

Clark sighed and kneeled by his son. "Kal, I would never hit you on purpose. Your daddy's son and he loves you."

"KAL!!!" yelled a little girl voice.

Clara was taking her tiny toddler steps towards Kal and Clark. "Looks like someone else wants to play." Clark tells his son. Clark stands up and goes over to Clara. "Hey, you wanna play ball?"

Clara nodded vigorously. "Okay." said Clark and he picked Clara up. Clara laughed.

"Look at him." said Chloe to Lana and Martha. "He doesn't have any other chores to do, so he's playing with the kids."

All of the girls went "Awww.." when Clark picked up the giggling Clara. Clark played with the kids for about half an hour when Lana decided it was time for Clara to go to bed. Lana hesitantly walked up to Clark and the kids.

"Hey." said Lana.

"hey." said Clark, looking at the grass.

"You've been missed around here you know." said Lana.

"I miss it here sometimes." said Clark.

Lana watched Clark stare at the grass for a minute then motioned for her daughter. "C'mon Clara, time for bed." Lana picked up her daughter and headed for the house.

"Daddy?" said Kal.

"What is it son?" said Clark.

"Why do you hate Lana so much?"

Clark looked up at his son in surprise.

"I don't hate her buddy." said Clark.

"Then why don't you ever talk to her?" asked Kal.

Clark picked up his son and put him on his shoulders. "Well Kal, your daddy loved your mom very much. He's just not ready to talk to another girl yet."

"But daddy..." said Kal.

"What?" asked Clark, heading to the house.

"Lana would be a good mommy. And I would have a sister."

Lana buckled Clara into her car. She turned around to say bye to Martha. "I'll see you tommorow."

Martha looked at her a minute and smiled. "Don't take it personally Lana, his not the same boy he was when he lived here."

"It's like he hates me." said Lana.

"He doesn't hate you. It's just, you were the first girl he ever loved. He feels that if he gets close to you again, he'll lose you too." said Martha.

Lana looked at Martha a minute, and nodded. She waved bye an got in her car. Martha watched her leave the farm. Clark walked up behind her.

"She's leaving already?" asked Clark.

"You didn't exactly make her feel welcome." said Martha, turning to face him.

"Mom-" began Clark.

"I know Clark. Just remember, Lois wouldn't want you to be miserable for the rest of your life." Martha walked towards the house. Clark looked in the direction that Lana had just left.

It was the next morning. Martha was sitting on the porch, Johnathon walked outside and sat beside her.

"What's wrong sweetheart?" he asked.

"Clark." said Martha.

"What about him?" asked Johnathon.

"He was up at the crack of dawn doing chores. Go see for yourself, there's nothing to do now." said Martha.

"Why would he do that?" asked Johnathon.

"Keeping himself busy. I just worry about what's going to happen when there's nothing else for him to do." said Martha.

"I'll go talk to him." said Johnathon, standing up.

Lana had just woken up. She got her and her daughter dressed.

"Where we going?" asked Clara. "Can we go see uncle Clark and Kal?"

Lana smiled at her daughter. "Yes, we can go see uncle Clark and Kal."

Clark was in the loft, cleaning it out when Johnathon walked in.

"Hey dad." said Clark.

"Hey son. Umm...can I talk to you a minute?" asked Johnathon.

"Sure." said Clark, putting the tools in his hand down.

"Your mother and I are worried about you son. It's been 3 years since Lois passed away and you still haven't dealt with it."

"I HAVE dealt with it dad. Just differently then you would have." said Clark.

"Working yourself into an early grave isn't dealing with it Clark." said Johnathon.

"You want me to stop doing things around the farm? Fine, I won't do any more." said Clark, and walked towards the door.

"It's not that son. We just want you to be happy." said Johnathon.

"I'm getting there." said Clark. "Both me, and my son. We're getting there." he walked out.

Chloe and Pete were on the porch now, talking with Martha. Clark walked out of the barn and up to the porch.

"Well if it isn't the working machine?" said Pete.

"Oh god, not you too." said Clark.

"Anyone that doesn't see what you do has to be blind." said Chloe.

"Lana's here." said Martha, standing up. "I wonder what she's doing here so early."

"She doesn't like being in the house alone." said Pete.

Clark looked over at Pete. "Why didn't it work out between you two any way?" asked Clark.

Pete sighed. "You can only be with someone so long, when everytime they look at you, they see someone else."

Lana got out of her car, and unbuckled her daughter. Kal had just walked out the door, and as soon as he saw Clara climbing out, he dashed off the porch.

"Clara!" squeeled Kal, running to the little girl, who had just seen him and also squeeled.

Clark laughed at the two of them, and walked inside. Chloe stood up and went to the yard to meet Lana.

"What's with this rooster call?" asked Chloe.

"You mean what the heck am I doing here this early?" asked Lana.

Chloe laughed. "It's not that I don't want to see you, but yeah."

Lana smiled. "It's not everyday that the old group is together again. It's comforting."

Chloe gave a mischevious grin. "You mean it's not everyday that Clark is in town."

"We know each other so well." laughed Lana.

Clark poured himself a cup of coffee when Pete walked up beside him to get himself a cup as well.

"You can't keep avoiding her." said Pete.

"Avoiding who?" asked Clark.

"You know exactly who I'm talking about." said Pete, looking out the window.

"Pete, I thought if anyone would want me to stay away from her, it would be you." said Clark.

"I just want to see her happy Clark. And believe it or not, she was happy when she was with you." said Pete.

"Pete, that was a long time ago. We're different people now." said Clark, taking a sip of his coffee.

"Your not diffent. You've just both been married." said Pete.

"Pete-" started Clark.

"Clark, y'know when I said she always saw someone else?" asked Pete.

"Yeah.." said Clark.

"She was always looking at you."

Time is running out for Smallville to come on, so I'll just leave a summary of what will happen in my next post, which will be later tonight.

Clark's true feelings and thoughts come out when he finds a new meteor rock. The color is.....orange. (I made this up! yay!) He confesses everything to none other than..ba ba ba buh!! LANA!

Clark was outside picking up the branches and rocks in the back yard so Kal and Clara could play without getting hurt. He was still reeling from the conversation that him and Pete had. Could Lana still be in love with him? Had she never moved on from the relationship they had once had? 'That's impossible.' thought Clark. No one would hang on to a relationship that was doomed from the start. Clark tossed the branches into the trash can that he had brought out with him, and looked back down. There was an odd looking rock in front of him. He leaned down and picked it up, it had tiny fragments of orange stones through out it. He was examining it when Lana walked up behind him.

"Okay Clark. We have to stop doing the avoidance dance sometime." she told him. "Now tell me what your problem is."

Clark turned around, rock still in his hand. "I can't get close to anyone without them dying. What's the point?" he said and walked past her, towards the house.

"Clark, that's not true!" said Lana.

"Yes it is. I've only been in a relationship with 3 people. Alicia and Lois both died!"

"What about me Clark? We were close once and I'm still here." said Lana, taking a couple of steps towards him.

"Which is why I can't get close. I don't want to take the chance of death catching up with you." said Clark. He looked shocked and looked down at the rock he was holding. "What the-?" he looked at the rock in suspicion and threw it down. He stormed to the house.

Lana watched him storm off, then glanced at the stone he threw down. Lana picked it up and examined it.

"Chloe, I need you to tell me what this is." said Lana, laying the rock down on the table.

Chloe walked over to it and looked it over. "Looks like a rock."

Lana laughed. "I know it's a rock, but it has some sort of effect on Clark."

"So your saying.." started Chloe.

"That this might be another form of Kryptonite." finished Lana, nodding.

"Okay, I'll look into it." said Chloe turning from the table to get her laptop out of her bag.

"Thanks." said Lana.

"Wait..what KIND of effect?" asked Chloe.

"I think it makes him tell the emotions he's trying to hide." said Lana.

"Wow, I think I like this rock already." said Chloe.

Later that night, Clark was putting Kal to bed when Chloe walked in. She had the meteor rock in her hand.

Clark looked up at her, then at the rock, then back down to his son. "Good night buddy." he said, and kissed Kal on the forehead.

"Good night daddy." said Kal.

Clark smiled at Kal and walked out of the room with Chloe.

"What do you have that for?" asked Clark, motioning towards the rock.

"Lana thought it had some sort of affect on you this morning, so she had me look into it." said Chloe.

"Did you find anything?" asked Clark.

"Just that it isn't from earth." said Chloe. They walked outside to stand on the porch, where everyone was outside talking.

"So, basically, another form of Kryptonite?" asked Clark. Chloe nodded. "Great."

Lana walked up to the two of them. "Find anything?" asked Lana.

"You were right." said Clark, walking off the porch. "It's orange kryptonite. Which makes mine and Kal's life much more complicated."

"Oh, I forgot that kryptonite affected Kal too." said Chloe.

Johnathon stepped up to Clark. "It's okay Clark, at least it doesn't hurt you."

"Letting out my darkest feelings do hurt me dad. I'm scared to death of what Kal's might be." said Clark.

"I'm sure, that his feelings are that he loves you." said Lana, walking towards him.

"Yeah man, you're a good father. No worries." said Pete.

Clark looked out into the distance. "I thought things couldn't get worse." said Clark, and walked towards the loft.

All of the others watched Clark go.

The next morning. Clark is at Lois' grave, he kneels beside her headstone.

"I don't know what to do Lo'." Clark said to his deceased wife. "I know you would want Kal and I to be happy. But I don't know how i'm supposed to do that." his hand traced over her name on the headstone. "I miss you so much, but i'm tired of feeling this way."

It started to rain.

"I feel guilty everytime I think about moving on." said Clark, his face now drenched from the rain. "But god Lois, it's been 3 years. I shouldn't feel guilty anymore."

Clark wiped the tears from his eyes and stood up. "I'll bring Kal out to see you soon." he said and walked away from the headstone.

Kent Farm. Lana and Chloe hear Clark's truck pull up, they walk out onto the front porch and watch Clark get out.

"Why is he drenched before he gets out of the truck?" asked Lana.

"Oh, didn't Mrs. Kent tell you? He went to visit Lois this morning." said Chloe.

((Summary of next chapter: Kal begins to learn some of his fathers super tricks. The family has to learn to deal. Also, Lana's feelings for Clark are hinted at. You have to be an IDIOT not to catch these hints. Let's hope Clark isn't stupid.))

Later that evening. Clark walked out of the bathroom, towel around his shoulders.

"It's about time! What's with the shower marathon?" asked Chloe.

"The water felt good." said Clark.

"And look, he's cleanly shaven!" exclaimed Chloe. Clark rolled his eyes at her.

Lana walked in and looked at Clark. "I'll be surprised if there's any hot water left." said Lana, smiling.

"I wasn't in there THAT long." said Clark.

"An hour in a half, if fairly long my friend." said Pete, walking in from outside. "It's a good thing you're done though."

"Why?" asked Clark.

"Because son, we've decided it will be good for you to get your feelings out in the open." said Johnathon, who walked inside in front of Martha.

"Dad, come on-"

"We've watched you mope around long enough." said Johnathon.

Lana held up the orange K. "We can do this the easy way, or the hard way."

Clark looked at all of them, and surrendered. "FINE." he said, and took the rock she was holding up. "What do you want to know?"

"Why are you working yourself so hard?" asked Chloe.

"When I'm not busy, thoughts of the past over whelm me. It's like I can't breath." said Clark plainly.

"Why won't you share your feelings with anyone?" asked Lana.

"Because, sharing my feelings makes me feel weak. Like I don't have control over my own life. I don't need the people I love to judge me." said Clark.

"I've got a better question." said Pete mischeviously. "Are you still in love with Lana?"

Everyone in the room looked at Clark with interest. Lana blushed, but continued to look at Clark.

Everyone waited for Clark's responce. He looked at the all, and he's eyes stopped on Lana. "A part of me has never stopped loving her. She will always be a very important part of my life."

Pete shook his head. "Not good enough." he said. "Okay, do you think you could have a future with her?"

"Pete, will you stop that?!?" said Lana.

"I think I could have a relationship with her, but everytime I think about it I feel guilty because I feel like I'm cheating on Lois. I feel like I'm betraying my son." said Clark, and he looked down at the rock. "I'm done." he said, and threw the stone on the couch, and headed outside.

"Congratulations Pete, you just made things worse!" said Chloe, and she slapped him on the arm.

"I was just trying to help!"

Clark was on the porch, watching the rain fall, when Lana walked out behind him.

"Hey." said Lana.

Clark looked at her and sighed. "Listen, about what was said in there..." started Clark.

"Don't worry about it Clark. It's good that you can get your feelings out." said Lana.

"It's just that...." Clark, looked down at his shoes. "I just don't think I'm ready."

"I'm not ready either." said Lana. Clark looked up at her. "Clark, you're wife has been gone for 3 years. I've only been divorced 1. I don't want to rush into anything that i'm not sure will last."

"My thoughts exactly." said Clark, and looked back out at the rain.

"But Clark, you owe it yourself, and your son, to make sure that you stay healthy. Don't work yourself to the grave because then Kal won't have anyone." said Lana.

Clark's thoughts strayed to Kal. He was such a sweet little boy. Clark didn't know what he would do without him. "You're right. Kal means everything to me, I don't think I could ever hurt him like that."

"I'm glad we had this talk, but it's freezing out here." said Lana and laughed. "You're immune to the cold but the rest of us aren't." she walked into the house.

Clark watched the rain and his son's words began to haunt him. 'Lana would make a good mommy.....'

The next morning everyone tried to spend as much time as possible with each other. Clark and Chloe were heading back to their seperate spaces of metropolis. The kids played with each other and the adults talked.

"So Clark, with you working 3 jobs and all, you must be pretty well off when it comes to money." said Chloe.

"I do okay." said Clark, smiling.

"Oh come on! You know you have bulging pockets of money!" exclaimed Chloe.

"Don't expect any better Christmas presents." said Clark.

They all laughed.

"So, Lana, how's the Talon doing?" asked Clark.

"Business has never been better." said Lana.

"Yeah, I haven't been able to sleep in since I moved into the upstairs apartment." said Pete.

For a second Clark had forgotten that Pete and Lana had been married once. Clark had already been married to Lois for a couple of years when he found out.

*Flashback*

"Are you serious?" asked the pregnant Lois, talking on the phone.

Clark had looked over at her with curiousity. He couldn't delve into it just yet, he was working on a deadline with the daily planet.

"Wait..wait." said Lois. "Pete and Lana? That doesn't even sound right." Clark had looked over at Lois at this. "Married?" asked Lois, Clark turned completely around in his seat to look at Lois.

"Who's getting married?" asked Clark.

Lois laughed. "Hang on cuz, Clark is interested now." she looked over at Clark. "Lana and Pete, he asked her to marry him, and she said yes." her attention was back on the phone. "Oh wait Chloe, someone just buzzed in." Lois pressed a button on the phone. "Hello? Oh hi Pete, hang on just a sec." She clicked back over to Chloe. "I'll have to call you back, Pete is on the other line, wanting to talk to Clark. Bye." she buzzed back over. "You there? Okay, hang on." She motioned the phone to Clark. Clark walked over to her and took it.

"Hello? Hey Pete, what's up?" there is silence a moment. "Yeah, I heard about you and Lana, congratulations.....what? Be your best man?"

*Present*

He had been the best man at their wedding. He'll never forget how awkward he felt, watching Lana walk down the aisle to his best friend.

"What are you thinking about Clark?" asked Lana, who noticed he had a far off look in his eyes.

"What? Oh, nothing." said Clark.

That evening. Clark and Kal were standing by Clark's truck, saying goodbye to everyone.

"Please come home more often?" asked Martha, hugging her son.

"I'll make sure of it." said Clark.

"Don't work yourself too hard." said Johnthan, taking his turn at hugging his son.

"I won't." said Clark.

When the grandparents turned their attention to thier grandson, Clark turned to his long-time friends.

"Clark, we only live like a half an hour from each other. We should really hang out sometime." said Chloe.

"You sure Jimmy won't mind?" asked Clark, smiling.

"Clark, he's my boyfriend, not my husband." said Chloe, coming to hug Clark. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go say bye to my god-son." she walked over to the Kents and Kal.

"Don't be a stranger." said Pete, holding out his hand.

Clark shook it. "I'll come in a few weeks." said Clark.

"I'm sure Clara would want to say bye to Kal, so I'm going to go get her." said Pete, walking towards the house.

Clark looked at Lana. "I'm not really sure what to say." said Clark.

"Just say, 'See you around Lana.' That seems to work." said Lana, smiling.

Clark smiled at her. "See you around Lana." He pulled her into a hug.

"Don't stay gone. Clara has found a new best friend." said Lana.

"Maybe they'll be like we were." said Clark. Lana gave him her best smile.

"Maybe." she said.

Clark sighed and took her hands in his. "Lana, i'm not sure what I want right now. I haven't been able to decide it i'm ready to move on or not."

Lana's smile slowly faded. "I'm sorry to hear that Clark." said Lana, taking her hands away from his. "I've been waiting for you for 9 years. I don't think I can wait anymore."

Lana watched Clark's truck leave the Kent farm, tears in her eyes. She shook her head in disbelief and walked back to her own car.

*********
Later that night. Clark is asleep in bed, he turns in his sleep.

*Dream*

Clark is at crater lake with Kal and Lois. Lois is teaching Kal how to swim. Clark walks over to the two of them, smiling. Lois looks up at him.

"Can't you see that he's not happy?" asked Lois, motioning to Kal.

"What are you talking about? He's having a great time." said Clark, looking at his laughing son.

"I'm just a memory Clark. But he's drowning in pain." said Lois. "Go to her."

"Lois, I can't just-"

"Go to her. I'll always be there, but now you and Kal both need someone new." said Lois

"Lo'."

"There was always a part of you that I couldn't touch. A part that always belonged to her. It's time for you to be whole again." said Lois, still holding their son. "It's time for you both to be whole."

Clark woke up with a start. He sat up in bed and rubbed his face with his hand. 'Go to her.' he thought. 'Yes' he thought to himself. 'I have never stopped loving her. My feelings were just on hold.' he rolled out of bed and put on some pants. He went to Kal's bedroom and shook his son awake.

"What is it daddy?" he asked. A sudden boom of thunder made him flinch.

"It's okay son, I'm here. We're just gonna go for a ride." said Clark.

Lana woke up, frightened. Someone was banging on her door. She slowly got out of bed, and picked up a baseball bat she kept by the door. Luckily, Clara hadn't woken up. Lana slowly walked to the front door. She put her hand on the knob and opened it a little, peeked out of it, and gave a sigh of relief.

"Clark, what are you doing here?" she asked, looking at him, his son asleep in his arms, Clark had covered him up so only Clark was drenched. When Clark didn't answer she opened the door up to let them in. Clark walked in and put his son on the couch, he turned to Lana.

"Clark, what are you-" Clark leaned in and kissed her.

Lana was shocked by his sudden kiss. She widened her eyes in surprise. Clark pulled away and put his hands in his pockets.

"I'm sorry about that." said Clark.

"Clark...what are you doing here?" asked Lana, still surprised.

"I had a dream. It woke me up, and I found myself here." said Clark.

"Not that I'm not happy to see you, but, after our conversation today, I didn't think I'd hear from you in a while." said Lana.

"Lana, I never want to go back to that lifestyle. I was killing myself, and hurting my son." said Clark, looking over at Kal.

Lana smiled. "Y'know, I can still remember the day I found out that Lois was pregnant. I couldn't believe you were going to be a dad."

*Flashback*

"Geez Lois, how long has it been since you ate?" asked Chloe. They were at the Talon and Lois has just scarfed down her 3rd muffin.

"About an hour." said Lois, picking up another one. Lana and Chloe laughed.

"It's almost as if you were preg-" Chloe and Lana saw the look in here eye. The one that said, ' You're on the right track.' "Nant." finished Chloe. "Oh my god Lois!"

"You're pregnant?" asked Lana, shocked.

"Well Clark always wanted to have a daughter, so I thought, 'hey, let's give it a shot.' and here we are." said Lois, patting her stomach.

"Wow, Clark as a dad. Never saw that one coming." said Chloe.

Lana looked down to her shoes. "I think Clark will be a great dad." she looked up at Lois and gave a fake smile.

"I do too. I can't go shopping without Clark going 'Awww' at all the baby stuff." said Lois, laughing. "He's so great."

"It's hard to believe that you two couldn't stand each other when we were in high school." said Chloe.

"At that time he was still head over heel for Lana." said Lois, looking over at Lana smiling. "I didn't think I'd ever get through to him."

"When did you eventually get to him anyway?" asked Chloe.

Lana turned and went behind the counter to get a cup of coffee, she didn't want the two girls to see her face. She wiped away a few tears.

"Well, one night he was in his loft, staring at the stars, still thinking about our favorite coffee shop owner," said Lois, and Lana stopped making her coffee for a moment, listening. "And I told him that unless he wanted to let her in on his secret, he had to stop living in the past."

He didn't tell Lana about himself until the day before Lana and Pete had gotten married. It was his wedding present. It meant the world to her.

"Really? And what did he say?" asked Chloe.

"That he couldn't take the risk of it." said Lois, and then stopped, looking over at Lana nervously. "Actually, he didn't say anything about a secret, I must be delirious."

Lana put on another fake smile and turned to Lois. " I know he has secrets Lois, it's not a new thing." 'But the fact that everyone knows but me hurts a little bit.' Lana told herself.

Pete had asked her out on a date the next night.

*Present.*

"You wanted a daughter." said Lana, looking at the sleeping Kal.

"I wouldn't trade Kal for anything." said Clark.

Lana looked at Clark a minute. "Okay Clark, why are you REALLY here?"

Clark sighed and looked over at Lana. "I'm making myself whole again."

Lana and Clark had decided to take their new relationship slow. Lana wanted to prove to him that she wasn't going anywhere.

Clark, Lana, and the two kids were outside the Kent Farm, talking to Johnathon when Martha ran out of the house. Tears in her eyes.

"CLARK!!!" she yelled, running towards them.

"What is it mom?" asked Clark, turning towards his mother.

Martha could barely speak. "Chloe." she said, between hysterical gasps. "Chloe's been killed."

"WHAT?" asked Clark, Lana, and Johnathon together.

"No..." whispered Lana.

"How?" asked Clark, eyes wide with shock.

"There was a car accident." gasped Martha. "It was a hit and run. The police are searching for the vehicle now."

"What kind of vehicle?" Clark said steadily.

"A white Nissan, a 94' model." said Martha.

"Where?" asked Clark.

"On Route 8, near Evan's feild." said Martha.

"Clark-" started Lana, but Clark had dashed out of sight.

"Martha, I we have to find Clark before he does something he's going to regret." said Johnathon.

Route 8, Clark speeds down the road, passing a dozen cars as he goes. He spots the car he's been searching for speeding down the road. He catches up to it and see's the driver. He opens his mouth in shock. He gets in front of the car and stops, forcing the car to stop with him.

Clark looked again at the driver, only this time with furiousity in his eyes. "Hello Lex."

Clark went around the side of the car and threw the door off it's hinges. He yanked Lex out of the car and up in the air by his color. "Why Lex? We've been out of each other's lives for 8 years and now you show up and kill my best friend?" Clark threw Lex to the ground. "Now you're going to tell me why!"

"Clark-" Clark didn't give Lex time to finish, he yanked him up and plowed into his face. He picked him up yet again and pushed back up against the car.

"Before I break you in half. I want to know....why?" said Clark through clenched teeth.

"I'm trying to tell you!" said Lex.

Clark backed up and slammed Lex into the car again. "Then tell me."

"Because I'm not supposed to want to be you!" Lex spat at him. "I'm a billionaire, i'm not supposed to want to be some poor farm boy."

Clark looked at him in shock for a minute, then threw him back down on the concrete. "You killed Chloe...because you're jealous?"

"I killed her for other reasons. But that might have been a small factor in it." said Lex, slowly standing up.

Clark walked over to him and kicked him in the side, making him fall again. "So tell me Lex. What was the big reason for killing her?" He leaned down to get close to Lex. "What made you sink so low?" he whispered to him.

Lex looked up at Clark with hate. "Because I asked her to be my wife, and she rejected me."

Clark stood up and looked at him in shock. "What?"

Johnathon and Lana are speeding down Route 8 trying to find Clark.

"Mr. Kent, he's too fast to catch him." said Lana.

"We can't give up hope just yet Lana." said Johnathon.

"WAIT! There he is!" said Lana, pointing down the road. Johnathon sped up to where Clark was holding Lex against the car. Lana rushed out ahead of Johnathon. She ran to Clark.

"CLARK! Stop it, you're gonna kill him!" said Lana as Clark placed his hands around Lex's neck.

Johnathon rushed up beside Lana. "Clark, put him down. Don't do something that you'll regret later."

"I'll never regret this. He killed Chloe." said Clark, slowly tightnening his grip making Lex turn purple.

Lana rushed up to him and put her hands around his arm, trying to pull him back. "Clark, let go." she said, failing to pull him back. "Think about your son Clark."

Clark looked at Lex, then over at Lana. He released his grip. Lex fell to his knees, gasping for air. "You have a son now huh? asked Lex, hand clutching his neck.

"Not that you'll be able to see him, but yes." said Clark, pulling out his cell phone and dialing 911. "I'll be right back." he told the others and walked a distance away.

"Why did you do it Lex?" asked Johnathon.

"You were always right about me Mr. Kent." said Lex, slowly standing up. "I am my father's son."

Lana's eyes were tearing up. "She's gone. Because of you." said Lana angrily.

Lex looked at her with sympathy in his eyes. "If I could take back what I did, I would. I don't want to be a killler."

"But you ARE." said Lana, turning her back to him and walking over to Clark.

Lex wiped the blood from his lip and smiled. "I'll be better off in prison."

"You're right, you probably are." said Mr. Kent, before plowing his own fist into Lex's face. "That's for Chloe."

It was the day of Chloe's funeral. It had just ended and people were climbing into their cars to leave. It was the coldest day of the winter. Clark knelt beside Chloe's headstone, which was right beside Lois'. "I've been to too many of these thing's lately." he told Chloe, staring at her headstone. He swept a hand through his hair and sighed. "Why didn't you tell me Lex was harrassing you? I could have protected you."

"It's not your fault Clark."

Clark turned around to see Lana watching him. "Everyone who keeps dying in my life. I could've prevented."

Lana came to kneel beside him. "It's okay Clark. I'm going to miss her too."

That night was the first time Clark cried in Lana's arms.

Clark and Lana left the burial site together. Neither of them said anything, they didn't have to. They knew what each other were feeling without words. Clark climbed into his truck. Lana sat beside him. Lana took his hand and held it on the way back to the Kent Farm. There was a long pause before the silence was broken.

"Nothing is going to be the same between us is it?" asked Lana suddenly.

Clark looked at her and back to the road. ".........No."

"But....it isn't a bad thing this time.....is it?" asked Lana.

Clark sat in silence a moment. "No."

"This is..........serious now." said Lana.

Clark only nodded. Lana smiled at him and looked out the window. Today wasn't the day to talk about thier relationship. Today was a day for mourning. They pulled up to the Kent Farm and got out of the truck.

"Daddy!" yelled Kal and ran to him, tears streaming down his eyes. "They told me I couldn't play with Aunt Chloe anymore!" he said, clutching on to Clark's legs. Clark picked him up and wiped away his tears.

"I'm sorry buddy. But thier right." said Clark.

Kal cried harder and clutched on to his dad's neck. "Why?!?" he exclaimed. Lana looked over at Clark with sympathy on her face. She didn't have to explain it to Clara, she was still too young.

"Because Aunt Chloe is in a better place now." said Clark.

Chloe's boyfriend Jimmy walked towards them. Clark could tell he had been crying. Clark put down Kal and walked over to him. He gave him a friendly hug. "How are you holding up Jim?"

Jimmy gave a fake smile and sniffed. "I'm doing okay, I guess. It was just so unexpected."

"I know." Clark put a hand on his shoulder.

"You know what the worst part is?" asked Jimmy. Clark shook his head, and Jimmy pulled out a small jewelry box. "I was going to ask her to marry me today. It's our 1 year anniversary." Lana choked up on tears and hugged Jimmy.

"I'm so sorry." she said and released him. At that moment Kal was pulling on Lana's shirt. She looked down at him. "What is it Kal?" she asked.

"Can you be my new mommy?" he asked.

Lana stood there in complete silence. She didn't know what to say. Clark took over for her. "Kal, she can be your friend if you want her to be."

"I don't want a friend. I want a mommy!" screamed Kal and walked away. Clark watched him go and then looked on curiosly as Kal stopped and picked something up. He didn't have time to pay attention because Pete had just walked up.

"I hear you guys left the funeral together." said Pete.

"Pete-" began Clark.

"It's okay. I always knew that you two would fly back to each other some day." said Pete.

"Daddy..." said Kal. Clark turned around to face him and his eyes opened in shock. "What's this?" Kal was holding up a very large peice of Orange K.

Clark didn't think he could take listening to Kal's inner feelings, he thought it would kill him. "Kal, put that rock down. It could be dangerous."

"You ALWAYS say things are dangerous daddy. I'm not allowed to do ANYTHING!" said Kal.

"Because Kal, I don't want you to get hurt." said Clark.

"But it's no fun." said Kal.

Clark walked over to him and hesitantly reached for the rock. Kal jerked it away from him and started to run. Clark sighed and looked to the ground.

"I'm never gonna win with him." said Clark.

"Uh.....Clark." said Lana.

Clark looked over to her. "What is it?"

Lana pointed in the direction that Kal and just ran in. Kal was moving so fast he was only a blur, then he became invisible.

"Oh God." said Clark. "He's got my speed."

Kal stopped just a after a second of super speed running. He looked over at his dad. "Daddy, I'm just like you, i'm just like you!!!"

Clark super-sped over to his son. "Son, you have to realize that we can't do this whenever we want."

"But...it's FUN." said Kal.

"Just because it's fun doesn't mean it's right." said Clark. Kal slumped his shoulders, and looked down at the rock in his hand.

"This is one of the bad rocks isn't it? The kind that hurt us." said Kal.

"Yes buddy. I'm afraid it is." said Clark.

"But I don't feel different. Not like I did when I put that red rock in my pocket." said Kal.

Clark would never forget it. Kal had been just about to turn 4 when he found Clark's broken class ring. Pete had tape around the ring. "Just for the memorys." Pete had said. Kal had found it and put it on. It still had a fragment of Red K in it.

Kal had never been a bad child before, Clark thought he had it easy until he put on that ring.

*Flashback*

"KAL! Put daddy's laptop down, that cost alot of money. We can't afford to replace it right now." Clark had said, moving slowly towards his son, who had the laptop over his head.

"If I smash this you'll have time to play with me!!" Kal had yelled.

"No I won't. Daddy will have to work extra hard to earn up enough money to pay for another one. If daddy has to work more, it means I'll be gone more too."

Kal had thought about this a moment, and set the laptop down. "Fine." He stormed off to his room. Clark had given a sigh of relief until he heard a crash from the bedroom. He ran and opened the door. Kal had knocked down the shelf that was on the wall.

"Oh geez...." Clark had said.

He finally noticed the ring when he was putting Kal in the bathtub. He snuck the ring out of the bathroom and into his bedroom, where he locked it in his keepsake box. That was the night Clark had realized that Kal was affected by the rocks too.

*Present*

"It doesn't seem like it does anything buddy...but it DOES." said Clark.

Kal sighed and held out the rock. "Here, I don't want it anymore."

Clark hesitated and took the rock from his son. "You scare me sometimes..y'know that?"

Kal gave his dad one of his best smiles and only nodded. Clark threw the meteor rock a few hundred feet from them. Then he picked up his son, and walked back to the group.

Martha took her grandson from Clark. "Kal, don't scare your Nana like that!"

Johnathon rubbed Kal's head. "Me either, your grand dad's heart isn't what it used to be."

Kal smiled and whispered in his Nana's ear. "That's because grand dad's heart is old." he exploded in a fit of laughter.

Martha looked over at Johnathon and smiled. She knew that Johnathon had heard every word. "This is definately Clark's son." she said with a bigger smile.

"Same sense of humor." said Johnathon, looking over at Clark, who had also started laughing at his son's remark.

Lana had started to laugh, and then thought better of it. She had seen Johnathon mad before, and it wasn't pretty.

Clark reached over and took his son again. "Grand dad's heart IS old son. You're very smart." he started to walk towards the house.

"Hey! Wait just a minute!" said Johnathon. Martha had grabbed his arm and smiled at him. Johnathon smiled and chuckled.

Lana smiled at the Kent's for a moment and headed inside after Clark. Clark set Kal down on the sofa, and looked over at Lana.

"I go back to metropolis today." said Clark.

"I know." said Lana.

"I think we would be moving too fast if I asked you to move in with me." said Clark.

"You're probably right." said Lana.

Clark pulled her into a hug. "But I won't stay gone this time Lana. I promise."

Lana reached up and put a hand on his face, and looked deeply into his eyes. "You better not."

Clark hadn't returned to Smallville in 3 days. He had quit 2 of his jobs and now only worked for the Daily Planet. He called Lana everyday after he got off work.

"When are you coming down to see me?" she asked him over the phone.

"Whenever I can. I'm working on a deadline for the Planet and it's taking me forever to get the scoop." said Clark.

"What's the story?" asked Lana.

"Has Lex Luthor lost his mind?" chuckled Clark.

"Is it a coinsidance that you ended up with that story?" said Lana, laughing.

"I volunteered to do it. I was the only one brave enough to do the piece on him. It's the last thing I can do for Chloe." the two of them were silent for a moment.

"It's not going to be the same without her is it?" asked Lana.

"Nothing is ever going to be the same. Both Lois and Chloe are out of our lives now." said Clark.

"At least we still have Kal." said Lana.

"Yeah, he's turning out to be just like his Aunt Chloe." said Clark with a laugh.

"Why do you say that?" asked Lana.

"Because today when we were coming back from picking him up from day-care, he asked me to buy him some nails." said Clark.

"So....?" said Lana.

"He needed the nails so he could put articles on his 'Weirdness' wall." said Clark.

Lana laughed. "Yep, that's Chloe's nephew alright!"

The Kent Farm. Johnathon and Martha are at the table talking when they hear a truck pull in. They both stand up with confused looks on their face and look out the window.

"What is Clark doing here?" asked Johnathon.

Martha went to the front door and opened it up to let Clark and Kal in. "Clark! I didn't know you were coming." she said.

"I didn't plan on coming." said Clark.

"What happened?" asked Johnathon.

"Which is why I traveled 4 hours to get here." said Clark. "I need help."

"Clark, Your mother and I will gladly help you, but, you have to realize that we won't always be here to get you out of trouble." said Johnathon.

"I know." said Clark. "But you guys handled me just fine. I'm not sure what to do."

"Well, first we have to get him OUTSIDE before he lights the house on fire."

All of the Kents were outside. Johnathon had placed a scarecrow out in the middle of the field like he did with his own son.

Clark led Kal out there and kneeled beside him. "Okay son, now try to get real excited. When you feel you're eyes start to burn, look at that scarecrow. Understand?"

Kal nodded. Clark knew that it was easier to do by yourself, so he walked back towards his parents.

Kal sat in silence for a minute. He stared intently at the scare crow. When nothing happened he looked back at his family and winced.

"DUCK AND COVER!!!" yelled Clark, and tackled his parents to the ground, barely avoiding the heat that went straight above them.

Clark stood up and looked at Kal. "Kal, it doesn't matter if nothing is happening or not, stay focused on that scare crow!!!" Clark looked down expecting to see his parents, but they had already moved, trying to put out a fire in the grass next to the barn. 'Oh geez.' he thought.

The Kents were outside with Kal for hours before they thought he finally had it under control. Johnathon wiped his face with his sleeve and laughed.

"This is alot harder than I remember it being." he said to his wife.

Martha smiled at him. "That's because when we were doing this, you didn't have graying hair."

Johnathon ran a hand through his hair. "By the time this kid is grown I'll have white hair."

Clark walked up to his parents with Kal in tow.

"I think we've FINALLY got it." he told them.

"That's good. I think we'll finally have some GREEN grass around here with as much water as we poured on it today." said Johnathon.

"Okay, well, me and Kal will come by sometime later." said Clark, walking towards his truck.

"Where are you going?" asked Martha.

"Going to Lana's we're going to get Pete to babysit for us." said Clark.

Martha and Johnathon smiled at each other while Kal and Clark got into the truck.

Talon. Clark walks in, holding his son's hand. Kal sees Clara sitting in a chair and runs over to her.

Lana looks up from the floor she had been sweeping and smiled. "You're early!"

Clark smiled at her. "Yeah, it's this new thing I'm trying out called 'bieng punctual.' "

Lana laughed. At that moment Pete walked down the stairs and clapped Clark on the back.

"Hey man, good to see you back already." said Pete.

"Yeah, well, when you're son starts picking up new abilities, I kinda need some help." said Clark.

"Wait...what? New abilities?" asked Pete.

"Heat Vision." said Clark.

"Whoa. Are you sure it's safe to bring him here?" asked Pete.

"Yeah, we've got it all under control now. Kal, has it all under control." said Clark.

"That's good to hear. Now, you two get your butts outta here so me and the kids can start having some fun!" said Pete.

"No problem." said Clark, holding out an arm for Lana. Lana took it smiling.

"Thanks for watching the kids Pete." said Lana.

"No problem, now get out." said Pete, shoeing them out the door.

Clark and Lana laughed and walked out to Clark's truck.

Clark pulled into a restaurant. He got out of the truck and went around to open the door for Lana.

"Well thank you kind sir." she said, in a fake accent.

"No problem milady." said Clark, in an equally fake accent. He took her hand and helped her out. They closed the door and walked hand-in-hand into the restaurant. When they walked in, they stopped because there was a huge line to wait in.

"Clark, maybe we should go some where else." said Lana.

"No, this place is fine." said Clark, and walked ahead of the line to talk to the man checking off reservations.

The man looked up and saw him. "Ah, Monsieur Kent! Right this way." the man led them to a secluded area in the back. The man gave them a brilliant smile and walked back towards the front.

"Wow Clark, you have some pull with this place." said Lana, impressed.

"It doesn't hurt when I happened to right an article on how good this place's food is." said Clark, grinning.

"What's this place called anyway?" asked Lana, looking around.

"I can't pronounce it." said Clark. "Just trust me when I say the food is fantastic."

"Okay Clark." she said, looking back at him, smiling. "I'll trust you."

The Talon. Pete is running around the tables chasing Kal. Kal has made a game of super-speeding through chairs and under tables.

"Kal, c'mon, I told you 3 times already! It's time to go to bed!" said Pete, clutching his knees, trying to catch his breath.

"Daddy tired." said Clara, who was sitting on the counter.

Pete took a deep breath and cringed. "And Clara's dirty." he walked over to his daughter and picked her up. "Okay, Kal, if you don't slow your butt down and follow me, I'm telling you're dad that you've been bad."

Kal stopped in an instant. "I'll be good Uncle Pete." and followed Pete and Clara up the stairs.

After Clark and Lana had finished eating, they decided it was a good time to talk.

"You're right, this place IS fantastic." said Lana, smiling.

"Now we just need to work on my pronounciation." said Clark.

Lana laughed. "Yes, that would probably help."

Clark looked in her eyes for a moment, and reached out to take her hand. "Did I tell you how beautiful you look tonight?"

Lana smiled and blushed. "Thanks Clark." she said, embarrased.

Clark again looked into her eyes, and then straightened up. "So, are you ready?" he asked.

"Ready for what?"

"Ready for what else I have planned tonight." said Clark, with a mischevious grin.

Metropolis. Clark and Lana stop at an apartment building.

"Wow Clark, these apartments are NICE. But....what are we doing here?" asked Lana.

Clark didn't say anything but led her into the complex, and up a flight of stairs. He pulled out a key and opened the door. Lana walked in and saw that it was Clark and Kal's place, but there were boxes upon boxes inside of the room.

"Clark...what is all this?" she asked him.

"It's your things." he said. "I probably should have asked you this before I had your things moved but.." he turned Lana to face him. "Would you and Clara like to move in with us?

Lana laughed and jumped at Clark, her arms going around his neck.

"Should I take that as a yes?" he asked.

"You should DEFINATELY take that as a yes." she said.

Lana walked into the house and looked around, she went into the back bedroom and stopped. "Uh Clark?"

Clark walked towards Lana, and into the room she was looking in. "Oh."

Lana smiled at him. "Was that Kal?" she asked, pointing to the burn marks all over the walls, and toys, and mattress, AND pictures.

"Yeah." said Clark, also looking around. "You know, it looked worse this morning."

Lana shook her head. "Really? It looks pretty bad now."

"You get used to this kind of stuff when you grow up around what I did." said Clark, still looking around.

"I guess you would." said Lana.

Clark looked down at Lana. "Do you think we're moving too fast?" he asked.

"I know that I'M not. I've drempt of this moment for years." said Lana. "I can't speak for you though."

Clark smiled at her. "Lois told me in a dream that there was always a part of me that you kept from her. I don't think I'm ever going to be happy if I can't have that peice with me......always."

Lana smiled up at him. "But how did you know I would say yes to moving in with you?"

Clark looked away. "I've been talking to Pete about it."

"Pete?" asked Lana.

"I asked him if he thought you were ready for this, and he told me that you used to keep a diary. And the diary said that you had always wanted to have a future with me." said Clark. "I guess I knew that you wanted to make that dream a reality just as much as I did."

"What if I would have said no?" asked Lana.

Clark chuckled. "Then I would have been pretty much screwed."

The Talon, Clark and Lana walk in, they see Pete passed out at the counter. They chuckled to each other and Lana tip toed over to him. Clark also walked quietly over to him. They looked at him a minute, a laughed as he snored loudly. Clark walked around the counter and leaned under it. He came back up with a jug of cherries. He opened it and pulled one out. He held it up for Lana to see. She laughed quietly. Clark tip toed back over to Pete and dangeled it above his open mouth. Lana covered her mouth trying to surpress her laughter. Clark looked at Lana with a smile, and dropped into Pete's mouth. Lana and Clark tried to muffle their laughter and run behind the counter to duck.

Pete coughed and the cherry landed in front of Lana and Clark. It was harder for them to surpress their laughter this time. Pete woke up and looked around, then made a gesture of having a funny taste in his mouth.

"Okay Clark, Mr. Funny man. I know you're here come on out." said Pete.

Clark and Lana stood up, smiling.

"How did you know it was Clark?" asked Lana.

Pete laughed. "When we were room mates in college, Clark always pulled stunts on me when I was asleep. I remember one time I woke up with an inflatable doll. It scared me to death when I woke up. I looked over at Clark, and he was sleeping soundly, but the smile on his face gave him away."

Lana laughed. "I didn't know you were so playful."

"I'm not." said Clark with a smile.

"When we got out of college, he had been dating Lois for a while. He spent all of his attention on her, and stopped playing pranks." said Pete. Everyone was silent for a minute. "So..uh...how did everything go?"

Clark smiled at him. "Great."

"Everything?" asked Pete. "Even the surprise?"

"Yep." said Clark. "Her and Clara are moving in with me.

Lana studied Pete, looking for some sort of negative reaction to the news, but she saw only smiles.

The next morning, everyone set to work. They all traveled to Metropolis to help Lana and Clark unpack the stuff. It didn't take as long as they expected because both Clark AND Kal used their super-speed. Clark turned his office into Clara's room, and Clark helped Lana make his bedroom look like she lived in it too. When everything was finished, Clark put an arm around Lana and looked around.

"I like it." he said.

"Me too." said Lana.

"Seems less...." started Clark.

"Empty?" said Pete, who also started to look around.

"Yeah, that's the word." said Clark.

"It does look alot better." said Martha.

"That it does." said Johnathon. "Okay, well, let's get these empty boxes out of here and let Lana and Clark get the feel of living together."

Pete nodded and followed Johnathon out the door. Martha smiled at her son, waved, and also walked out the door. When the kids had went to Clara's new room, Lana slipped her arm through his and smiled at him.

Clark looked down at her and gave his best smile.

"Welcome home Lana."
