Clark had graduated from college and was now working for the Daily Planet as a journalist. At least, that was his day job. At night he would prowl the streets, looking to stop crime. But lately Metropolis was quiet.

Clark was sitting on top of the Daily Planet building looking over the night sky, without crime to fight, his thoughts drifted to his childhood. He missed his father dearly, and thought about him everyday. It had only been 2 years since his passing...that was the day that he had told Lana, his childhood love..his secret.

*Flash back*

Clark is standing by his father's grave. It starts to rain. His mother has already left with Chloe and Lois. He stares at the headstone.

"Beloved husband, beloved Father."

Clark collapsed to his knees and put his face in his hands, he finally let the tears come. Lana was watching him from her car, she had put the keys in the ignition and was just about to leave with she saw Clark collapse to his knees. She quickly got out of the car and walked over to him. She put her hand on her shoulder.

"Clark." she whispered. "I am so sorry."

He looked up at her. "Lana, i'm so tired of feeling this way." Lana looked at him for a moment, sympathy in her eyes. Clark is silent a moment, then stands up. "Can you keep a secret?"

*Present*

Clark looked over the night sky once more and sighed. Her feelings for him didn't change when he told her. She adjusted. He loved her more for that. Clark stood up and walked over to the edge of the building, his cape swishing with the wind.

"You don't have to leave Clark.." Lana had said to him.

"Yes I do Lana, there's nothing here for me anymore." said Clark.

"What about me?" she said, tears in her eyes. After everything you've put me through, am I not important to you?

Clark shut his eyes at the memory. Of course she was important to him. He had stupidly left without a word, leaving Lana to cry. He was always good at making Lana cry, he hated himself for it.

Clark was so consumed in his thought he had barely heard the cry for help in the streets. Shaking his head to clear the fog, he jumped off the building and flew to where the cries could be heard.

"Please." he heard a voice. "I have a family."

Clark landed by the assailant. It was a typical thug, who attacked women. He easily tossed the man aside and handed the lady her belongings. Without a word, he flew into the night's sky, again perching himself on the Daily Planet's structure.

His thoughts went back to Lana, and the day he thought his life had ended.

*Flash back*

"I met him at Met U." said Lana.

The words broke Clark's heart. "Really?" he said, trying to sound like it didn't matter. Lana saw right through him.

"Clark, you can't expect me to just wait around so you can sort through your feelings." said Lana.

"I know." he said, looking at the floor.

"I waited for you to need me after your dad died Clark, but you wouldn't let me help." she said.

When Clark remained silent she went on.

"He's asked me to move in with him Clark, and I've told him yes."

Why am I torturing myself tonight? He asked himself. What is it with me, Journalist by day, Super hero by night, and a Self-Sadist in my free time? He shook his head. He thought he had finally cleared his head when the memory crashed into him so hard he had to catch his breath.

"I'm getting married." she had said.

She was getting married....he tried to think of something besides those words, but they kept coming back to him.

"I'm getting married."

His breath was heavy as he paced the building, wishing someone would need his help.

"I'm getting mar-"

It was finally time for Clark to go home, and he was relieved. A good couple of hours sleep would do him good before work. If he didn't get enough sleep he didn't think he could up with Lois Lane's awful droning for 8 hours. He got to his place and and went to the bathroom, he took off his uniform and hopped in the shower.

"The date is set. I'm so excited about the wedding!" Lana had said to Chloe in the Talon, Clark had just walked in and over heard it.

This is going to be a long night, Clark thought to himself, again trying and failing to clear his head. His memories glided to his hostile confrontation with Lana.

"You have to decide Lana. It's HIM or ME."

Lana, again with tears in her eyes, yelled at him. "HOW CAN YOU ASK ME TO DO THIS!"

"I'm sorry Lana, but I have to know." Clark said more calmly.

"Why? Why do you need to know so horribly bad?" she had asked him angrily.

"Because...I need to know, if I need to at least try."

"Try what?"

"...............to move on."

"Your parents need you. I need you........I love you Clark." the memory struck him like a blow to the stomach, he leaned against the shower wall and gasped for breath.

He let her slip away from him so many times. And for what? To be unhappy? Years that he could have been with her, had he not been afraid to tell her his secret.

"Are you sure you don't want to BE that guy?"

He wanted to be that guy more than anything in the world. It had been years and she still meant the world to him. I wonder if she's thinking about me right now? he asked himself. He doubted it, she was probably too busy preparing to have her daughter.

*Flashback.*

"I think i'm pregnant!" She was telling Lois, and Chloe, and Martha.

The words rang in his ears. He remembered turning away from them so they wouldn't see his face. She looked so happy. Happier than she had ever looked before, he was happy for her.

*Present*

He'd always wanted kids, he just didn't think he could have any. And now Lana was about ready to give birth to a beautiful baby girl. He ran soap through his hair, focusing on the water, and not on his thoughts.

Clark got out of the shower and put a towel around his waist. He was combing back his hair when their was a knock at the door. Surprised and nervous, Clark slowly opened the door. It was Lana.

"Mr. Kent." she said slowly.

His memorys came back to him as he saw her.

"Do you choose him or me?"

"I could only ever choose you."

Clark smiled his brilliant smile. "Mrs. Kent, how is our baby girl tonight?" he asked, before she could answer he pulled her into the bathroom and closed the door.

Well, I planned on making it a bit longer, but, I'd hate to torture you guys. You wouldn't know that they were together until the very end. And I would love to do a continuation, I will have another update up in a few moments.

The alarm went off too early for Clark. He layed there, in and out of sleep until Lana hit him square in the face with her pillow.

"I'm up." Clark said, leaning over a turning off the alarm. He sat up in bed and rubbed his face, then looked back at Lana, who was smiling at him. "You hit me." he said.

"I did." she said, and laughed.

"Find that funny?" he asked.

"I do." she said.

He picked up her pillow and tossed it at her. She caught it and laughed. Clark stood up and went to the bathroom. He was brushing his teeth when there was a knock on the door again.

"What is it?" he asked.

"I really need to get in there!" said Lana, urgency in her voice.

Clark rolled his eyes, she ALWAYS had to pee. He spit the toothpaste out of his mouth and turned off the water. He opened the door to let her in and recieved the pillow yet again in his face. Lana laughed hysterically and ran back to the bed.

Clark laughed and walked out of the bathroom and proceeded to get dressed. When he was ready to leave for work he gave Lana a quick kiss and headed for the door, when he opened it, he looked back at Lana and pointed at her.

"I'll get you." he said, smiling, and walked out.

:(awww....what happened to this story? When I first started reading this story I was dying of sadness, now it started out with clana fun and you suddenly stop:( PPMS!!! (I can't believe all the fics you've written wow! That's soooo great!)
