I've been wondering, how many people actually watch reality television shows. Personally, I can't stand the direction television is going with this. It's too much. I think people are just throwing crap out there, because it's cheaper and people are jumping on the wagon. What do you guys/girls think?

i'm with you greenshdy, I don't like readly T.v at all. There's too much of it around. I watched the frist the last episode of Suvivor, and that was it. Wow that different lets get back to real T.V(no pun intened) like Law and Order or something like that. But more and more on this crap t.v keep coming and now it every where and I'm sick of it. I did want a part of the last Survivor, but that was only because I lost my Starchoice due to being a cattle farmer in Canada when BSE hit.:( Anyway I wish readtly T.V would go away it crap! I haven't seen on show that looks good, there all the same; dumb and crapy.

Well that was my daily rant:)

I hate reality TV with a passion. I wish the craze would die down, and they would get back to putting out some good shows. Unfortunately, all networks care about is ratings. So as long as the craze is in affect, there will always be reality television.

There have only been three reality shows I ever liked.

- The Mole : The first two seasons of The Mole were flat out amazing. The show kept you on the edge of your seat week to week, and the host Anderson Cooper was awesome. Now they have turned The Mole into a celebrity version where washed up actors and other celebrities use it as an excuse to get back on television. Ahmad Rashad is also a terrible host.

- Amazing Race : This show gets better after each season and is actually worth watching. I had my mom tape the entire fifth season for me, and I am just about to start watching it. So if anyone else likes Amazing Race, do not say who won or anything that happened please!!

- My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance : This show was suprisingly good. It was extremely funny and the actor hired to play the obnoxious fiance played the part to perfection. I am hoping they do a second season, but with how bad Joe Millionaire bombed the second time around, I doubt they will do it.

i really liked reality tv, but not in the way it totally dominates all the networks now. women and men are portrayed in the selfish, greedy, and lame portrayal. and so tried of 15 min. stars that wont go away even though they have no talent like all the real actors/actresses do. its seems like every network has their own reality shows. i mean enough already because it turning out to be overkill. they are putting the ax to a lot of tv shows to replace them with cheap reality tv. However, there is a select few i do watch:
-sports from Indy Racing to Soccer
-Cops(its been around since the 80's and i still love it)
-used to watch Fear Factor but its the same ol' same ol' so i dont even bother anymore
-Newlyweds is fun to watch :)

Reality TV is non existant. I mean honestly... do you really believe a single thing you see when you watch those shows?

(some hunky dude talking into a camera)
Hunky dude: Well from the past hour I've spent with this scantily clad woman I can tell she's definatly my life mate. I mean, When we made out in the strip bar, and when she leaned over while she was wearing that bikini... I just knew she was the one. I am so in love with... dammit... what was her name again?

Unfortunately, if you watch most reality TV shows, that is the quality of conversation you'll get. I kid you not. I do concede the point however, that usually the 'hunky dude' talking into the camera does remember the name of the whor... I mean woman who he has 'chosen'.

Hmmmmm... what a great basis for a relationship. Basically, what reality TV teaches us, is that if you know here name then its time to get raunchy!
rock on... (oh brother)

I watch quite a few reality TV shows, including

American Idol
Last Comic Standing
Queer Eye For the Straight Guy
America's Next Top Model
The Simple Life

I also caught the first season of Joe Millionaire and liked the PBS reality series Colonial Life quite a bit.

There are a lot of reality shows that are fairly informative AND entertaining, and escapist in different ways than fictional shows. For example, Trading Spaces is really interesting if your'e into home decorating (which I am) and I love seeing talent shows, so AI, LCS and ANTM are a lot of fun. *shrug*

I used to like it (the Bachelor..... yeah.... *blush*) but now I hate it with a pure unadulterated passion. The craze has just gone wayyyy out of proportion. My friends all talk about "American Idol" and "Survivor" (is that even still on the air? LOL, shows how much I keep track of it :p) and I am just like, *yawn*. I honestly don't see what people see in it. The people on them are just in it for the money, I mean, there is nothing real about it, just people making up stories and lies for the camera.

The majority of reality tv sucks, but there are a few shows that I do like:

Survivor
The Apprentice-except season 3, didn't like that one.
The Amazing Race
America's Next Top Model

And Jackass/Viva La Bam/The Wild Boyz-are those considered reality tv?

can't stand the romance based ones. watched a few seasons of survivor, and big brother. usually watch american idol, though last year was the first time i've watched a whole season. obviously there are quite a few people watching them b/c their ratings are ridiculously high. I'd prefer to watch great shows like Medical Investigation which was cancelled though.

Well done.

I've watched various episodes of various reality tv shows when I was bored and there was nothing better to do. Some of them were able to keep my attention for a while, but I just can't imagine watching them on a regular basis. They're all so predictable, and even the non romance shows have forced 'conflicts' between the competitors. It just gets monotonous after a while.

American Idol
Amazing Race

"Reality TV" doesn't really exist IMO. The only TRUE reality show, if ever there was one, was the first season of MTV's The Real World. Everything else on nowadays is just a contest to win something (money, a job, a music career, etc...). Now, that being said, I do watch a few select shows that fall under the category of Reality TV:
Amazing Race (I LOVE and LIVE for this show-and I can't wait for season one on DVD!)
American Idol (auditions being held in Denver in three weeks! Haha! I'm going to work the event and see all the crazy people-should be fun!)
I sometimes watch Extreme Makeover, Home Edition-I'd say that's somewhat Reality.
I used to watch The Real World when I was in High School-I always liked that show, I watched season 1 of The Apprentice but lost interest after that, and I have seen Colonial Life and the other PBS one...Frontier Life I think it was called? They were both great. I recommend renting them on DVD if you like reality. Those two shows were as close to reality TV as you can get, since the people had to exist and live as if they were in those times, no prize to win, nothing to gain but the knowledge and experience of having to survive like that. Great shows.

Out of all the reality show's I watch I watch only two: Dog the Bounty Hunter and Chriss Angel's Mindfreak.

Dog is my favorite cheesy reality and Mindfreak is just interesting. Other then that the other reality shows are stupid (ok I realize Dog is a bit...silly but at least it's interesing in my point of view).

I hate all reality tv shows. They all stem from the networks inability to develop new and interesting television shows.

Why would I want to watch reality TV when I LIVE in Reality. I might as well grab a chair and sit down in the mall and watch people.

I like two different reality shows and that's it. One's pretty trashy and knows it, that's what I like about it, the other is awesome and always retains a distinct kind of class. The shows are Big Brother and The Amazing Race. Can't stand Survivor, American Idol etc... Extreme Makeover strikes me as repetitive and manipulative.

i hate all reality television, with one exception. i don't know why i like dancing with the stars...maybe it's because they don't take themselves too seriously, and since it isn't about money, the stars aren't all mean to each other. it's just a lighthearted fun hour of tv.

I answered I watch a few.

I really enjoy The Amazing Race, love to see the places they go, see them do something that locals do and some of the places they stay that would never be open to you or I traveling. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is OK too, but I don't usually catch it.

After that, a good round of Jeopardy, but I'm not sure that's what the person meant when they started the poll.

The day of reality TV shows are coming to an end. Unfortunately this genre will never go away from this point, so we will have to endure those horribly created ones. However, I am waiting for that one show that can excel above all the others and hook me. Until that day I embrace the current popularity of Drama shows and anticipate the return of good sitcoms. Until then "Good morning, good day and good night".

American Idol is a guilty pleasure of mine. I really enjoy watching it. Although it is with a mst3k attitude. I have also watched The Surreal Life. I kinda like watching reality shows involving psuedo celebs, it makes me feel better about myself. Anything involving celebrities is bound to be train wreck TV, and very fun to watch.

The only reality shows I watch are Flavor Of Love and Flavor Of Love Girls: Charm School. Please don't laugh at me, but these shows are so freakin' hilarious! Now, I honestly don't take either one seriously (Who would?!) but its just so funny to watch these women act all hot and seductive around some ugly troll like Flavor Flav! That, and the catfights are priceless! The true irony is that they all call each other fake a$$ b!tches, but in reality they are all extremely fake people. Don't ask me why, but its just funny!

Reality TV is the worst thing to happen. At least on The Gong Show a contestant was out if 1 judge struck the gong. Real People was the only good reality show, they showed ordinary people who did outstanding things. It was sort of a GOOD news program.
