I think it's Clark basically wanting to wear his usual ensemble, but he can't wear the red and blue combo anymore because that's now his RBB costume.

When he superspeeds around and stops to talk, he has to be in different colors, hence the blue on blue. If he were in red and blue, people would connect the dots (eventually). He's used to wearing his jeans, T-shirt, jacket and work boots. When he's off investigating, he can't be in his Daily Planet suit and tie outfit all the time, but he can't wear his red-and-blue combo, and hence... blue on blue.

At least, that's what I thought. *shrugs*

ETA: We'll probably be seeing more of this until the end of S8 and into S9.

I miss Clark's wardrobe from the first season, he wore sweaters and a lot of different styles and colors. If they went back to that for his casual attire, it would be so cool....but they have to keep his professional look for the DP, that was a nice change this year.

In the Injustice trailer he wears the black jacket that i think he used to wear in Season 1.

i noticed the colors too. my first reaction on seeing him was what happened to the shirt?
actually he has a different color jacket that looks exactly like the red and blue ones, does anyone remember how he used to wear baish all the time? you know what would look good on him? the way bizzaro dressed, he wore blue and i dont think he wore any red. (at least in episode bizzaro)

I don't really like the blue on blue combo. It would be nice if Clark wore different colors like he did in "Identity" when the RBB was established. I admit I miss the plaid shirts he used to wear.

I liked the combo. Maybe he wore it because he was pissed off.

yes the DP brings a new attire. Two years ago I was tired of the Blue or Red Jacket attire. But now I've accepted it as his official Supes uniform - a modern take on the tights. But I never thought I would miss the flannel shirts:o

He usually wears the blue/blue outfit when someone else takes the lead in a scene. Chloe came to the fortress wearing stronger colors, she deactivated the fortress and talked him down while Clark stood and allowed her to take Davis away like a passive idiot. I call this combination his looser outfit.

I disagree, he wasn't being passive at all, at the fortress I think he was shocked like we all were, Tom did great acting this episode

Really? I always thought part of the story of Superman was that people never connected the dots.

I thought the blue-blue combo was cool -- it sort of showed how he was feeling, and how it was a more serious situation than the RBB is used to handling, just like the dark ensemble he's sporting in next week's trailer is fitting for whatever it is he's trying to do there.

Actually, i didn't like the outfit because i usually like a mixture of colours in someone's dress code. I think the clothes he is wearing in the preview for Injustice were much better. At the same time i understand why he can't wear red anymore.

I like the Blue-on-Blue combo which we hardly ever get to see. Come to think of it, has Clark ever worn Blue-on-Blue before? I don't recall he's ever worn that combo before.

It's Bizarro!
Haha... no worries, he'll be back! ;)

Wait, wait... that many?? Wow... I don't think I've ever seen anyone wearing that particular combo, except maybe for Michael Jackson and his red leather jacket from the 80's!

I actually wear Red-on-Blue and Blue-on-Red ALL the time. :D I have my own Red Jacket, Blue T-shirt, Blue Jacket, and Red-shirt. I alternate between Red-Blue and Blue-Red when I go out. :D I guess I'll start considering wearing Blue-Blue from now on. :D I wonder how Red-Red would look like... :D

I actually liked the Blue-Blue combination, I think it looked pretty cool. :D

We've seen Clark wear red and blue mostly with Chloe and Lois (very supermanly) and then maybe wear blue and white with Lana, and as Bizarro it's red Tshirt blue jacket but What does the Blue on blue mean? Or maybe I'm JUST reading something into nothing? Whats your thoughts????

aw come on you didn't even notice this until you saw the screenshots. maybe it's just cause he can't be wearing red and blue unless he's the blur? otherwise jimmy's gonna pull the camera on him. then again, betcha jimmy sold his camera for drugs

I happened to think this is an Interesting Thread. I'm sure it's significant that Clark was wearing 'Unfamiliar colors' in "Beast". TPTB DO make a 'big deal' about the Colors the characters wear. We all know 'Why' Clark wears those Primary Colors... the Red jacket and Blue T-shirt, it's a Nod to Superman's 'colors'.

OK, and Lana wore Pink and White a LOT, which reflected her 'Innocence' before she went to Paris, but when she returned from Paris a 'more mature and less innocent' Lana incorporated darker colors into her wardrobe. When she was with Lex, she mirrored Lex's dark colors, and of course, she Was a Darker person then. Chloe Always wears a variety of colors, yet Lois wears Red and Blue only a little less often than Clark does even though she wears other colors, too. So, I'm assuming that her habit of wearing the Primary Colors so often is to 'connect' her to Clark.

Getting back to Clark; he only wore Black when he was the rebellious Kal on Red-K. In fact, while on Red-K, he wore anything But his familiar Primary Colors. In "Beast", Clark May Have worn the 'blue-on-blue' because it's 'darker' or 'less cheery and hopeful' without the Red, just as the storyline is becoming Darker, so are Clark's 'colors'. I noticed, too, 'L_Nasty388', that Clark's wearing BLACK in the previews for next week's episode, and I don't think he's going to be on Red-K. Then in the Finale, he's back to wearing the Red & Blue... more 'Supermanly'. I hope.

Really? I always thought part of the story of Superman was that people never connected the dots.

Very true. However, Smallville is as realistic a show can get when handling superheroes, magic, the supernatural, etc. Hence the reason for GA's voice modifier, etc. Also, Jimmy pretty much connected the dots in Identity when he saw a picture of Clark in the red-and-blue with his parents. Before that scene, Clark had collected all of his red and blue stuff, and still, from one picture, Jimmy got it. In this show, they will find a way for Clark to somehow disguise himself without people recognizing him. And it will be a plausible explanation (within the rules of the SV universe) the audience can accept. I've always been a fan of the Hexed glasses theory myself.

And to go back to my post, it's not necessarily that people will connect the dots. It just makes it more likely for suspicion to eventually get cast upon him if he continues to wear red-and-blue in public all the time (as he has favored to do in the past).

That's a good explanation

Thanks. :)

No, I believe Beast is the first time we ever saw blue-on-blue for Clark. Hence the reason for everyone wondering about it since he's been wearing red and blue for so long. Lol.

Hmm. This does make me think, though. Has Clark ever worn yellow? :\ Somehow, I can't see it. XD;;

I do agree with this, though. The darker colors may simply be a move on the producers' part to reflect the much darker storyline.

Actually he did in Duplicity. It's so far back. I have always thought that they should have stuck with the colours that he was wearing in Season 1. The red and blue was cool fir a while but it became tiresome after that.

Oh, really? Wow, good to know. Thanks for the heads up. :) I need to dig up my old DVDs (I seriously haven't watched old school Smallville in awhile.)

I do agree about the red and blue combo becoming tiresome. It's like they never want him to wear any other colors. Obviously, that's untrue now, but it's gotten to the point where when he wears different colors, it initially looks strange to us, the audience.

(Now that I think about it, I wouldn't mind seeing him in yellow. :\ Heh.)

Yeah, even those flannel shirts were red and blue. They wanted to give him the iconic Superman look but for me a blue shirt and blue jeans don't constitute blue tights and a red jacket doesn't constitute a red cape. I am surpised they didn't have him wear some kind of red underwear over his jeans .

He was wearing the yellow t-shirt in the episide where Pete finds out his secret and he has to save him from the faux Dr Hamilton. I would say that you should watch old school Smallville more often but only if you don't get nostalgic like i do.
