Hey, did anyone else LOVE it during the first scenes of the episode? Even though it was almost all stock footage flashbacks from the Pilot, for some odd reason, I almost wanted to squeal and jump for joy when I saw Jonathan, Martha, and Lionel again, and Smallville in it's heyday -- for all of five seconds before it was getting struck by the meteor shower. It made me realize how nostalgic I am about Smallville's early days (well, or reminded me again -- I've known I love the first few seasons since they aired), and how much I miss the "older generation" of characters that has moved on (or died).

P.S. I also liked seeing Li'l Lex again. That kid is a good actor. Smallville is great about picking awesome main cast stars AND guest stars, and I love it when they're recurring.

Yea I totally loved those scenes too! And this time we got to Davis was there as a child as well...AWESOME!! I felt bad for little bald Lex and Davis too!! Little Clark is sooo cute when he bends down to see Martha and Jonathan stuck in the car. Too bad he was the only one who turned out to be good..

Yeah, no kidding! YAY! Thanks for being the first to respond to my post. I thought it was never going to happen. I thought it was really cute and sad at the same time when Li'l Lex had the Warrior Angel comic and said he wanted to be just like him. If he only knew then what he would become... :( And I LOVED seeing Jonathan and Martha carrying Clark away, and his innocent, totally "at peace" smile.

I really liked all the flashbacks to Lex and Davis' childhood! It was really sad how neither Lex nor Davis intended to become what they have now. I must say they did an amazing job with picking the child ctors, the child Lex looks a lot like a little michael rosenbaum and the child Davis also had a strong resemblance to sam witwer.

I really enjoyed seeing those scenes again, I miss seeing Pa and Ma Kent, and the great MB.

As well, I liked the two child actors, I loved how little Lex and Sam were playing their sword game, and as Lex narrated, it told their entire lifestory. Oh the irony. But the kid plays too seriously!

Those were the only good scenes in the whole 40 mins and they were all from the pilot.

Yeah I liked it but it also reminded me of the days when Smallville had a much larger budget and still had some amazing stories and characters (not saying the characters today are bad).

I didn't like the flashbacks because I'm not a fan of Veritas and this retcon of doom.

It was nice to see AoT and JS again, albeit in flashback. However,I didn't realise Lionel was friendly with the Kents to begin with and that Martha had a hotline to him, calling him after finding Clark. What gives?

And the egg scene? Totally reminded me of "Alien" and the facehugger hatching. Completely gross. Nice touch.

I love this scenes, too. Anyone noticed the fine re-editing of the video-material? I've had compared those scenes with the original. The "flashbacks" got now the style of Season 8. Sharp pictures for example. You can see the difference!

It makes you realize how much they are all missed. The spoilers said that they would be off screen so I'm glad that wasn't true. It was great.

Absolutely! Actually, seeing Martha and Jonathan again was the highlight to me. Lionel too but he hasn't been gone that long.

It was the best thing about the episode. I loved seeing the old gang, and I especially loved seeing Lex again, even though it couldn't have been MR, it was still awesome.

Those were the best scenes of the episode. The ret-cons nearly tainted them, but I just ignored it. It was such a simpler show back then, these days its like they try too hard to be dark and dramatic.

I feel like watching all of seasons 1-4 now.

i Believe they covered this in season 2 epi 7 - Lineage. The kents gave lionel and the newly bald lex a ride in the truck to somewhere..... anyway, lionel said something about "if i could do something to repay you" and gives martha a business card or something with his number. so she calls him up a few days later to make the adoption look legal.

btw exactly what i was thinking, the AVP reference

I love those scenes in the Pilot, where they belong. Not when they're used again to serve some boring origin story.

I got a little nostalgic with the pilot scenes. I miss the simpler days. Not quite sure why they wanted to add Davis in but I will roll with it because nothing can take away for those original eps. All that was exposed was the new writers and how unoriginal they are and exploitive to use S1 pilot. However I didn't hate this ep only because so many eps this season have me saying wtf.

After seeing the flashback to the pilot I had to rewatch it, now I am re-watching the entire season one :\

I didn't really like it. At first I was going "Hey guys, we've already seen this episode!" at my TV screen, and then they cut in the Doomy retcon and it felt like it... polluted the original glory of the Pilot somehow. I'm just not a big fan of retcons, despite how well they're done.

Yeah, just seeing Jonathan, Martha and Lionel made me realize how much I miss those characters.

I loved how they tied in the scene with Davis and the old scene from the Pilot.

I dont mind the retcon but they could have just said something...they didnt have to show us. That to me kind of took me out of the scene. Didnt they edit the younger Lex in the cornfield so it would be this seasons young lex and not season 1's young lex?

It was sweet nostalgia. I was happy to see the episode start off almost exactly like the Pilot. As if we've come full circle.

No. They did use a new kid for young Clark in the quick scene where young Davis is looking at Martha carrying him away, though.
