So I can't speak for a lot of you, but I was very disappointed with this episode right up until the ending sequence where Clark raced into the phone booth to change into his Red and Blue. With all the build up over the flying aspect, I was expecting more, but I think that one shot was so iconic that it almost made up for the disappointment (almost). Anyone else have thoughts?

I loved the phone booth!

I've been asking for years how in the heck Clark is supposed to carry his suit around if it isn't under his clothes. I thought about a briefcase, but the BDA put it in his bookbag! :rotfl:

Tess called him on it too! Sometimes i could swear they read my posts here on K-Site.

oh, and he told Tess he didn't want her going through his underwear. Fantastic!

Awesome scenes, they made the episode IMO. But I am curious where Clark puts his suit when he gets in his costume? If he puts it in the bag, does he take the bag with him, because if someone found a bag with a suit in it, and Clark came back dressed like the RBB there might be some uncomfortable questions.

In some of the pre-Crisis comics, Superman stored his street clothes in a secret compartment, located in his cape.

I loved the transformation thing, but I think Clark needs to wear different colored clothes now unless he still wants people to know that he's the RBB. I love how they did their best to stay true to CR's Clark Kent into Superman transformation.

Man I can't believe clark didn't hover or float just before hitting the ground, what a bunch of hype again!

I expected this to happen, I knew the they were gonna hype this all up, just with the title alone it would help get attention, but not even to show clark hover just beore hitting the ground....that was cheap!

Phone booth change was cool, but I'm wondering if DD will actually fight clark. By keeping Davis around with this good form and evil form, they're kind of screwing with the DD character. I would rather see clark fight DD in his true evil nature, with Davis non existent. It seems the writers are going for a werewolf type of DD, it seems were getting a story about davis, clark and chloe trying to find a solution for DD, not sure if this is gonna pan out. I did like the scene where DD kills chloe, that looked pretty good, and gruesome the way I expect from the character.

Most of the episode circulated around jimmy so all in all i rate this episode about a 7 out of 10, had clarke hovered or floated i would've given it an 8.

This, and the "wardrobe malfunction" scene at the Kent farm were just a joy to watch. I love how Clark didn't let Chloe convince him that he should stop dressing up to save people or to stop letting the traffic light cameras capture his image. He is having fun with this dual identity thing, and it was so wonderful to finally see.

Absolutely fantastic stuff... I loved every moment of it!

I totally agree with you OP. I found myself dawdling around on my laptop in complete disinterest with a surprisingly dialogue-filled episode and was dissappointed at the no-flight scene. The melodrama of the Chloomsday scenes also made me consider just skipping out altogether, but throughout the episode there was something...off and yet familiar... about it.

Then I noticed that Clark was wearing casual clothes, similar to his style back in the first two seasons (though this time actually dressed as an adult) and I thought it was peculiar, but maybe they were just trying to "ground" the show somehow.

Then, right after the melo-culimination of the Chloomsday subplot, there he is at his computer, there's a disturbance, then he does the iconic quick-change into his red and blues.

Although it doesn't make me forget about the copouts and trangressions of this episode, I'm totally on board for next week.

That scene made it worse for me, cause it was so inconsecuential in the overall episode focus that it was anticlimatic if I may say so. No strong scenes preceding it, no big scenes of him saving someone afterwards. It was sort of like a last minute added, stand alone scene of Clark changing in a phonebooth.

All it did to me, was highlight the lack of focus Clark got in this episode and a scene that should have been the closing scene for an episode focused on Clark, instead it was a stand alone scene in an episode focused on the chlavimmy plot.

Not just you triple L. My Boy was looking Smoking Hot this episode.

Me too and I agree because I wasn't even analyzing to death I was just being a Supes fan-girl and enjoying the moment.

Clark is my boy as well this season, I love him a whole bunch. He hasn't replaced Lois as my favorite but he comes as a VERY close second. My girl is looking delicious this season as well with her hair dark, mmm, yummy, but Clark has garnered my interest a lot this season as well. Maybe it is the wardrobe, but whatever it is, Tom Welling was looking delicious in this episode, then to top it off he pulls a Superman in the phone booth, too awesome for words.

Didn't bother me. They have so much to develop with the current Davis/DD/Chloe/Jimmy storyline that it's not surprising they couldn't fit scenes in of him saving people. We got a good mention of it, and a discussion at the Kent house, along with the Tess scene (he did in fact save someone then), so with everything that went on it's perfectly acceptable to throw that scene in at the end. We don't see every single person Superman saves, but that doesn't make it any less awesome of a concept.

I suppose they could have waited for an episode much more focused on Clark saving multiple people to put the scene in, but to be frank, I'm sick of waiting. I'm loving this development, even if we don't see every single aspect of it. All of this beats moping around the barn over Lana any day of the week.

I was a bit amused that his "costume" is part of the everyday wardrobe he's been wearing for the last eight years. But I'll take what I can get ;).

P.S.

Didn't CR's CK look at a phonebooth but decide on a set or revolving doors? And DC's CK use the spinning around trick like WW? Funny that TW's CK is probably the most canon-based version.

You are ignoring Clark's entire story line. It was a B story, granted, but the phone booth scene didn't pop out of thin air.

Tess took Clark on the plane to let him know that she knows his secret. Alien, Red/Blue Blur, and all. She did it in a round about way because he never opened up to her. She knows everything Lex knew. She owns the Daily Planet, which Clark is using to sell his Super Hero to the city. She has given him her word that she can be trusted and is happy to let him, well, to let him use that phone booth as he sees fit.

The build up TO that scene was great IMO. As for something happening afterwords, I think it would have taken away from the idea that he went out to do what he does without fear. It is best left open ended.

Well, I guess Im happy people could enjoy it, personally I didnt.

I totally understand. I too found myself at some points in this episode thinking 'Oh come on, get back to Clark. Don't make him another guest star in his own show'. But as long as the developments elsewhere are good/interesting, and I think they ultimately were, I'm totally cool with it (as long as it doesn't occur on a regular basis that is). Thing is, at the end of the day the final confrontation between Clark and DD (no spoiler, I'm just presuming that's what's going to happen) will be all the more powerful from the development of both characters.

I mean, imagine if we knew nothing about Brainiac. His character would be boring, just something to show up and fight Clark every now and then. I like the background history of villains, it can make for some interesting thought.

Same here: I was ironically amused and I'll take what I can get. Throwaway moment or not, same old wardrobe or not, Clark finally is making me think he could possibly be Superman someday. Chloe has talked about it enough, now as well as going out and using his abilities, he's making a commitment to some sort of costume. Blech and yay!

I understand the frustration that such an important change is just one brief moment that didn't stand out amongst all the rest and that there was no pay off. The whole episode seemed Clark light, although he actually had the most screen time, partially because almost everyone else was emoting all over the place. That fact made Clark stand out for me. He was balanced, and thinking, and rational. For me, I didn't need to see him doing something after the quick change, although it would have been nice; I don't quite remember what the computer alert said, but knowing he saw it and was off to save the day was enough. It was no John Williams symphony going this is a Superman Moment, instead it was the usual villain overshadowing the hero. My take is that currently Clark hasn't taken the hero spotlight, but going out to rescue people is becoming normal for him. THE costume is going to be a much bigger moment that we won't see until the end.

I would suppose that Clark would be aware of them and is moving fast enough for the cameras not to track him. 'Cuz I'm pretty sure he could do that.

Clark's been pulling alien shenaynays in the basement of the DP for years, and not only has nothing been picked up on camera, but none of Chloe's co-workers ever noticed the exceptionally tall, brightly colored apparating man who keeps coming by her desk. That's a three-season-long plot hole if I ever saw one.

moviefan2k4
03-23-2009, 11:25 PM
More often than not, Clark only speeds up to Chloe's desk when there aren't many people around (or when its far too busy for anyone to take notice). Otherwise, he usually approaches normally. While I admit it's a little shaky, I'd hardly call it a massive plot hole.
