I personally feel that this was Double A's best Smallville performance yet. Just about everything was on point with the acting. Thoughts?

He was really good. Though I never thought he did bad acting in any other episodes in the first place. Like his performance in Identity was good also.

He really did a wonderful job in this. Top performance in this. You really felt for him and even while drugged up by Davis you felt the truth in what his character was saying.

I agree, this has been his best performance yet. You could really feel the anger that Jimmy had towards Chloe while they were talking at the end of the episode.

Yes I very much agree.AA was very strong in all his scenes in Turbulence, especially the last one he had with Chloe.

Yup. I cheered him on the entire way. And even gave him a pass upon issuing the most hurtful line Smallville ever delivered.

I LOVED him!!
I dont know if its his best to date...but it was definitely up there.

When he turned around, got right in Chloes face and said "Why the hell did you marry me in the first place!"

Oh...you could feel the emotion coming from him. Amazing job! :)

Aaron Ashmore is talented, he did a perfect job tonight. And he needs more scenes like these. He totally made that final scene with him and Chloe.

Better than anything Welling did this season.

AA made this episode watchable.

It was totally wrong characterization for Jimmy Olsen as usual, but thats the writers problems, AA did well.

I hated Jimmy as a character in this episode, but Aaron was fabulous. That might have been the first time he and Allison ever had any chemistry together.

Allison has never given a bad performance, and tonight was no exception. When Chloe started crying after the break-up, I lost it.

Totally agree. I didn't like Jimmy in this episode but I also felt for him. I felt bad that Davis was doing all those things to him and no one believed him because he was acting so crazy. But I loved Davis! I love crazy psycho Davis. And Sam is hot. And Allison always amazes me. I think she's outdone herself one episode and then she comes in with this episode and just blows me away again. Love that girl.

Wow. Aaron Ashmore was amazing in this episode. I've always loved Jimmy and this episode was a great episode for him. AA really made you feel how much he truly cared about Chloe and wanted to protect her. Too bad Davis is a lying monster and Chloe forgot to trust her husband and at least look into the matter before siding with another guy as usual.

Jimmy was the only character in the whole Chloe/Davis/Jimmy storyline that I felt truly sorry for in this episode, and part of that credit goes to Aaron Ashmore's incredible performance. I can't wait to see more of him next year with Erica and Tom as the iconic DP trio.

Chloe is disfunctional. After trying to get Clark to date her for so many years, she apparently can't even keep Jimmy because of her obsession with Clark all the time.

I hadn't liked Jimmy very much in seasons 6 or 7, and thought he was too radically different than the comic version, but he's one of my favorites this year between Identity and tonight's episoed alone. He gets too much crap from the other characters and think Aaron Ashmore brought his A game in this one.

03-20-2009, 12:37 AM
He blew me away in this episode. I'm glad Aaron had a chance to play a different side of Jimmy, one we haven't seen until now. I hope they explore his character more in future episodes.

By the way, did he quit his job?

Aaron Ashmore did an amazing job! I loved "Identity" but this was... not classic!Jimmy. This episode was very challenging and stretched the character. He did a great job.

I thought he did great. I knew the minute Jimmy grabbed those pills, he was going down!...LOL.

I'm actually glad Aaron got to do something different because the whole squeaky clean image Jimmy has had for so long has been keeping Aaron down in terms of acting.

I can't wait to see what happens now that he looks to become a pillhead...:D

I would never put down anything Tom Welling has done on this show - I think he's been amazing throughout the series, fantastic this season, and exceptional in this particular episode... but since this thread is about Aaron Ashmore's performance, I must say that he was quite fantastic himself. I absolutely loved the range of emotions he showed. This episode probably gave him more screen time than he's averaged throughout his career on Smallville, and he used every minute well. I was very impressed.

YES!

He carried the entire episode on his shoulders. The others where mediocre in comparison to him. Just goes to prove what an intense story does for an actor. This is where they have their opportunity to shine. And shine he did.

Couldn't agree more, I found myself yawning through the tess/clark scens (except for the champagne seduction :rotfl:), and hoping they'd get back to more Jimmy. Aaron was wonderful and he deserves a pat on the back for his acting tonight.

I thought Jimmy was terrific and has the part of Jimmy to a T. To compare him to TW is like apples and oranges. These iconic characters have certain personality traits that are hard to maintain without going over he top, and they both do a great job. TW probably has the toughest job because Clark is so internal. MR was able to show a crazy Lex, but it is much harder to have the character who is so much more reserved. When TW can let go like a Red K, or Bizarro episode he can do crazy as good as the rest of them!

I think because Jimmy was so out of character, it made him really stand out. In Identity he played more of a reporter role and in this episode he played a man scorned role. He really stood out though.

I know and like i said it was definitley spot on for what he was playing. I guess it just seemed forced cause we never got a build up to Jimmy being so over the top. If he had been mentioned or seen in the last 4-5 eps maybe i could have believed it a bit more. but thats just IMO

I think Smallville`s actors are great as ever this season in their acting skills, first Erica, who just amazed me with her brilliant talent, then Aaron and Sam, Tom also was perfect, he was very handsome and act very well....they were just great in Turbulence, I don`t expected that I can say that, but I love Jimmy most of them in that epi...well done, Aaron, I really missed you:)))))

And Tanya lets not forget Cassidy. She plays the role as if that's her real life character.I have to admit that after Rosenbaum and Glover left i was concerned about the level of acting.Well thankfully,Tom and Allison have been solid,Erica has flourished,Aaron is having his best season and the two rookies have turned in great performances.Personally,my MVP for this season is Sam Witwer.

I was more interested in Jimmy in this episode than I was in "Sleeper". So yeah, AA did pretty well :D.

It's a shame that most of the SV supporting actors aren't given more opportunities (and better material) to shine. Mediocre writing can seriously hamper an actor's performance. (And I take on board that this is CK's show ;)).

AA's story line in Turbulence...was one of the darkest & most serious of any episode..in SV's history..... AA's perfomance was terrific....and his acting was really good & the show itself...was serious in tone and had very little in the way of humor......and it just made some of the cheesier scenes in Infamous....look terribly cartoonish in comparsion....like the one with the excited extra...who was over acting big time.... yelling at people....after CK caught the girl who let herself fall off the balcony....the scene with that guy ....had fromage written all over it...

I like the ending in Turbalence..when they showed Jimmy at the stop light in his car....gulping down the pills..he looked...well...menacing...lol and for Jimmy Olsen to look menacing....well...props go out to AA!!!

Rift
03-25-2009, 09:52 PM
yeah, this was his best work on the show...but it certainly helps when they give him something to sink his acting choppers into as well.

smallvillerocks45
03-26-2009, 12:02 AM
I don't know why, but it seems that Smallville and its actors just shine when their characters are in a mental state of despair and/or chaos. I mean, "Shattered," "Splinter," "Labyrinth," and "Turbulence" are just some episodes that come to mind. Michael Rosenbaum, Tom Welling, and Aaron Ashmore were just wonderful in their roles - they showed such range of emotion, such depth - it was beautiful to watch.
