I'm not sure if that one ability where he can see the past of an object works through physical hand touch but it seem like the moment he got near the building and touched his car he got better images of how his past went in that particular moments. That was pretty cool assuming I'm right about this. I think it was pretty important to see how he saw a lot of his past when he finally touched his toy car. I hope they start developing Sylar like this as in him using his new powers during certain situations rather than just using cellular regenarting for defense and TK for offense it gets boring. Anyway wonder if anyone came up with the same solution or maybe i'm over thinking about this and he just remember like any other human person could do with their past?

Yeah, I think he used that power that lets him see the history of an object my touching it. That, or he was just remembering.

Yeah I really hope he did and I really hope the writers would continue letting him use more of his other powers rather than sticking with TK and Cell. Reg. even though TK is his signature move, we see it all the time especially before he slice their head open. Want to see more of his abilities apply to certain situations even if the situation isn't life threatening like using alchemy to get rich/money to pay things rather than killing people(since he is unemployed and not sure how he gets the money to eat and all). He's not the type who does reckless killing for just food or things he could avoid killing. Or perhaps next time when he doesn't have much time to use TK or something he could use Sound manipulation on the guards, or use sound manipulation in another cool form.

Maybee he used it
I just had a thought
I think Angella is guiding him to find his dad. It has not yet to be revealed how she knows his father. Angella specificly handed Sylar that power. When she did it I didn't understand why. but maybee she saw ahead that it would help him in the future from the time she gave it to him.

I thought about that too and just came up with two situations. 1) that reason which is pretty far fetched and the writers would want us to assume and think pretty far ahead but it would be freaking awesome if they did that lol give us more credit for our ability to think outside the box. 2) She did it just because that power isn't really harmful as in hurting people and needed to give him a power to gain his trust. Killing people was like an addiction for him so I think by giving him a power slowly or feed him certain times he wouldn't kill recklessly on sight. But Angela can see the future so anything could go.

I too think Angela fed that girl to Sylar just to gain his trust. He used that ability ( clairsentience, I think it's called ) to remember what happened in that diner.

Hehe, so far not many people disagree about my speculation I brought up. Looks like the writers gave us some credit in figuring that out. I mean this past show of sylar this episode showed gray scenes and actually flashback compared to his previous episodes where he just talks about it. So that was the main difference between other past memories and today's episode since this time he was near things and touch things.

I was disapointed that Samson Gray didn't have any close ups or lines. They could have made John Glover look younger and had some interactions in the flashback.

true... but what if they did that on purpose? not show samson gray cuz maybe it wasn't him. we never see his face. we are seeing what sylar is remembering or seeing in his head. he doesn't remember what his dad looks like so he automatically assumes his dad killed his mom.
it's either that or glover wasn't available to shoot the scene or they just want to have samsom gray be a surprise.
Litle bit more bizarre

I think he finaly use another power like he said to that stupid kid when they ate that you must use powers only for a purpose and he had a purpose in this episode
