Anyone else gotten Romeo and Juliet feeling in this episode? I did! I know Clark and Lois are meant to be lovers, but man this show Clark and Lana definitely seem to be star-crossed Lovers. But can not have each other!
At least, they didn't die.
Very emotional, touching I liked it a lot!
I will really MISS Lana!

I totally saw it too, even the background music during the bomb scene had a "romeo and juliet" feeling, but why would leave it at that? why would the ps3 not kill lana? just a thought

Yeah, they cried at the utter patheticness of the Clark Kent character. The ending was not romantic, it was disturbing on so many levels.

think about it, what he meant is that during the bomb scene there was a background music that sounded pretty much like Franco Zeffirelli "romeo and juliet" but of course it's not near the majesty of the sheakespeare's CALM DOWN *hands out a cup of tea*
this episode sucked still.

Clana is not totally rubbish. This relationship of course didn't have a long term future, but we have to remember that Smallville was created to explore the time around which Clark falls for Lana.Add to that the fact that Tom and Kristin have had great chemistry and it's not difficult to see why they can't keepo them apart. With that being said, they would have helped Clark's progress a hell of a lot if they would have given him the opportunity to end it.

The problem with Romeo and Juliet romances is that they end badly in tragedy.
I am a fan of Shakespeare, he was quite brilliant. And with even Romeo and Juliet, the relationship in the play was superficial, with neither character really having an idea of who the other person is. It was more superficial and almost childish.
I think Clark and Lana were portrayed like this to appeal to the masses, especially people who believe love should be hard and difficult, like it was in Romeo and Juliet. It's sad that true love is often idealized as being something that should be painful and difficult, because in real life who would want that. That in itself is tragic.
Just my personal opinion, but I think with soul mates, it shouldn't be tragic or difficult.

Some people may say that Clana are like Ruliet, the tale has some similarities, two kids falling in lust and separated by circumstances, but they have a major difference:
Ruliet starts, reaches its climax and ends in a period of a few weeks - Clana was dragged along for seven + years. There weren't ons and offs in Ruliet, once they got together, they remained together, fought together against adversity and DIED together. Clana had so many ons and offs that I can't count them with the fingers on one hand. There were not secrets and lies between Ruliet, they were a pure, innocent relationship, Clana's excess baggage is so heavy that only superpowered beings can carry them along.
One of the reasons why Ruliet is such a great/pure love/lust story is because that those kids died before their love became corrupted by coexistence, because they didn't have to face the daily trials of being a couple for the rest of their lives. For eight years, Clana tried and failed and not even when faced with their ultimate trial -separation- they tried to find a way to stay together. So maybe they are a bit like Ruliet, they are a reflection of what Ruliet would have been after 8 years of bad marriage.

ITA. That is why Clark will be happy with Lois. True love has its difficult moments because life can be hard sometimes but the most important with it is no matter what happens, it lasts...:)

Indeed, "Requiem" is no Shakespeare, but the one similarity to Romeo and Juliet is that Clana normally ends in tragedy (mostly for Clark's character assassination and viewer enjoyment), still it is a tragedy!!!!:D

Maybe when they were teens like Romeo and Juliet. The thing that made Romeo and Juliet so compelling was that they were so young. Lana and Clark, on the other hand, are just pathetic.
