Reckoning was tough. That last funeral scene is one of the best scenes they have ever done in Smallville. Plus, they gave him sort of a two part goodbye with his home video in 'Vengeance'.

JK's goodbye is definitely the saddest. It was a pivotal moment for the series. The series became darker aftert that. And as devilicus said his goodbye in Vengeance was very heartbreaking.

It is a bit funny even I knew exactly what would happen to Lana I actually cried because it was so sad :( It was really both well written and acted. Totally unexpected reaction from my part  But I loved it that Smallville managed to suprise me like this.

And it was a great departure unlike for example Lionel's death, which I will never forgive, simply horribly written.

Jonathan's death wins my vote. It was the only moment in Smallville history that I actually teared up. It was a profound scene that nothing can approach IMHO.

Jonathan's death was the saddest, not to mention unnecessary, in the entire series. He didn't have to die at all, and wouldn't have if, let us remember, Clark hadn't insisted on bringing Lana back to life despite Jor-El's clear warning there would be a heavy price to pay because the universe demanded balance. Too bad Clark didn't make the right choice then.

Lana's goodbye last night was welcome relief from eight nauseating years of a relationship that was horribly dysfunctional and nauseating. It's outrageous they ignored all of Lana's misdeeds, never making her pay for all the awful things she's done and even shoved nasty Clana sex at us again. I can only hope we will never see her again unless it's for Clark to say he was an idiot to ever think he loved her.

Jonathan's death wasn't all that sad to me simply because Jonathan became patronizing in Season 4 and frankly he was starting to wear on me.

Lana's goodbye (this time) was sadder because it was something both of them wanted very much and was torn away from them. It was heartbreaking to watch Clark struggle to approach Lana just so he could say goodbye and fight every moment not to collapse.

What about the departure of all common sense and good storytelling with the return of Lana Lang? That was pretty damn sad.

:rotfl: But oh you are so right. That part was excruciatingly sad. Luckily it's all over.

For me, Jonathan Kent's death will always be the saddest departure. He may have been a little patronizing but the responsibilities of a parent are not easy, even more so with Clark as a son. He adopted Clark, raised him to the best of his ability, and died too soon. Even though I expected it, death is never easy and should never be easy.

June marks the tenth anniversary of my Mother's death and my personal experience may affect my response but the death of Jonathan still brings tears to my eyes.

I have to say that the saddest depature from the show would have to be Clark's dignity at the end of Requiem.. and a close second would be the overall arc from the first part of S8. The Lana arc destroyed the rest of the season.

In all seriousness though I would have to say that the saddest departure would be Johnathan's death and goodbye video.

Johnathan's death and then lionels including his funeral scene with the music lol

i loved the fact when johnathan died (was dieing lol) he didn't have a last speech before he died, he just died without saying anything to clark or martha. So many shows have a character say something before they die, like a goodbye or say what they need to say before they have to leave but not on SMALLVILLE, not for johnathan, he just died without saying bye just like in real life.

I think thats what made it more powerful. Personally one of the best deaths I've seen on TV for what i stated above lol

When Lana mentioned the graveyard and the "talk" between Clark and her parents in Season 1, I was actually shocked by a strange bit of synchronicity. It had actual emotional resonance with me because I can remember watching that episode, probably one of the very first episodes of SV I'd ever seen. Back then, the X-Files series had just finished and Smallville sort of became the one show I've followed religiously ever since, through all the ups and downs. For me, the 8 years of history between Clark and Lana were encapsulated perfectly with that final scene.

I guess it made me realize that sometimes TV memories can be even better than things that happen in real life. Like when Homer Simpson is reading through his old TV guides when he's supposed to be cleaning out the basement and then Marge yells down: "Stop remembering TV and get back to work!" Good Times.

I'm surprised Lana's got second place. I found it really funny, as I've said on this forum a couple of times already. No offense to TW, I think he plays Clark Kent really well, but he isn't the greatest when it comes to crying scenes. The scripting was awful though, so that has to be taken into account. I loved it when he stumbled towards her, I was thinking 'projectile vomit, projectile vomit!' but alas, it didn't happen.

Jonathan's death. But I'd be lieing if I say I didn't feel pity for Lionel's death as well. By far the most original, unpredictable, complex character on that show.

Clark was always feeling guilty about it. But Jor-El brought Clark back at a price, yet he had no choice in the matter. And i don't think at that point Clark thought Jonathon would die. After all Jonathon did sneak off to meet Lionel. If Clark had known about that he would have found a way to stop that happening.

Johnathan. He died a tragic, gruesome death.
Lana, Pete and Martha were sad for Clark being alone, but they are all a phone call away.

ITA and to add. clark did that for lana he obviously was choosing lana over anyone close to him. and the people that was close to him that time that he loved was his dad, his mom and chole. so clark was was taking a gamble on their lives in order to save his precious lana. so it is clark's fault:mad:

Lana's. it was tragic. a love torn apart. Jonathans was sad as well, but he lived his life, loved his wife, protected clark, and as a result he had a heart attack, which he was always willing to die for his son.

maybe clark thought that using the crystal on lana would eliminate the need for anyone to die. jor-el didn't tell him if he did this someone else would still die. if he knew that for sure maybe he wouldn't have done it.

Pa Kent's death. It's one of the few times where I've been both incredibly angry and depressed due to a Television show.

This is also out of left field, but Whitney's death was pretty sad too. I mean I hated that character for being such a jerk, but for Lana to break up with him when he's on foriegn land fighting for his country, and is desprately trying to get back to set things right with her...it was pretty bad.

with the exception of Luther and Jonathan... the rest can always make a return at some point. I have to agree that Jonathan's death was the saddest moment for me.

I only caught up with Season 4 - 6 last year and I was unaware that he died so it a shock for me when I watched the episode and yes I was VERY sad and teary eyed!

As for Lana, she is not dead and buried and I was happy to just see her leave finally which was of her own choice. I think the writers have done enough damage to this character and too Clark's so RIP.

How can you not go with Johnathon. I always snicker to myself about people talking about crying during SV (no offense!), but this one definitely tugged at the heartstrings.

For me it would have to be Lana's departure from the show. Not so much because of her having to leave, but because of how painful it was to watch Clark have his heart broken like that. It made me cry.

^Like I say in the title...

Lana's goodbye in "Requiem" was by far the saddest to me. :(

jonathan's death for sure. i've not seen lana's last scene from requiem- but i really doubt it's sadder than the death of his father

Jonathan's death never really bothered me. I was never a big fan of the character, as most of the time I saw him as a stubborn jerk. The saddest part for me was the effect it had on Martha, which Annette O'Toole portrayed very well. Otherwise, I was glad to see him go and I thought it actually propelled Clark's character forward.

The saddest departure for me would have to be Lionel. Such a fantastic character, wonderfully played by the amazing John Glover. There are points for most of the characters where I just can't stand them, but I can't think of ever having a moment like that with Lionel/Glover. He was always so great, especially in scenes with Lex/Rosenbaum. I was truly sad to see him go, but I could understand the reason for it.

Second would be Lana's departure in "Requiem." The episode itself is pretty lame, but that final scene between Lana and Clark is beautiful, and so well acted by Kristin and Tom. They both gave it their all in that scene and it was heart wrenching to see him try to kiss her through his pain and her tearing herself away. The scene can't redeem the episode, but luckily I can easily just watch that scene on DVD. As a side note, I still think they need to bring Lana back once more, like around the series finale. They can't just leave her as Super Lana. I would like to see her come back, having found a way to get rid of the kryptonite, but having her and Clark realize that they are no longer on the same path and can just be friends. That'd be nice.

Honestly I think Alicia's death was the saddest by far with Jonathan Kent @ a very close second. Though Jonathan had a better send off than Alicia. Lionel's definatley comes in 3rd. After 7 seasons it was actually sad to see him go as well.

Lana on the other hand, while it was a touching scene it really isn't anything to shed a tear over. I could go on and on with her and Clark's relationship over the years so her departure was a blessing in disguise.
