Tried to make this thread title biased. For the fans of the episode, which was the better episode? For the people who disliked this arc, which episode was worse?

IMO they bothe weren't good, but I think Requiem was slighty better, just becasue it finally put an end to Clana, plus they ending of Requiem was beautifully acted by both TW and KK, they really portrayed their characters emotions so well.

Requiem was a decent episode overall, Power was just terrible

OK, I'm on the other side of the coin, and maybe it's because of AM's directing. I re-watched "Power" and was just amazed. Maybe we have issues with the storyline, but regardless of what you think of Lana, the story flowed well, the photography was excellent. I hadn't noticed on first watching that in the last kick Tess gives Regan it's done in slow-mo, what a nice effect, and of course the tear that comes down her face was wonderful. She was an extremely complicated character in that ep (albeit the "barracuda" she's referred to in Requiem).
Power to me is watchable again and again to pick up little things, Requiem just left me flat in so many ways. Nice to (hopefully) see an end to Clana, but a lot was predictable; and Lex being blown up in the truck at the end? Same thing happened to Lana, and she was a clone set up for that event. As soon as the truck exploded, I just went "clone...!"
I love the show, but for the first time I was getting a bit bored and thinking it's not the end of the world if I miss an ep (which I'll still try not to do...I'm just saying...). Maybe they're just dragging out the storyline too long, time for closure, time for the tights and flights.

Requiem, because the guy who played Winslow Schott/Toyman was cool and made the episode watchable.
Also, there was some decent stuff and Lex's plan was at least in common with Comic Lex Luthor even if it was a bit soapy, especially if it was just done to break Clana up!

I can't vote cuz they were both horrible

Requium is the obvious choice becasue it's when Lana left forever. They had to give her a decsent goodbye for the Lana lovers, while making so she can never be with Clark again for the people who dislike Clana. It wasn't how I would've wriiten it... but it wasn't too bad of a job.

Power I loved Lana solo in that episode before she went all, "I did this just to be with you Clark" crap.

Power by a landslide. Power had the redeeming first half and the awesome Tess, and Clark was pathetic but on the moral infraction scale he was relatively minor. In this episode, not only were we subjected to general fail, but Clark actually planned to kill a guy for breaking up his relationship. It's... I... I can't even find the words to express how disgusted I am with the writers of this show right now. I don't think I can watch this anymore.

I didn't vote. Both were terrible.
I think I felt worse after seeing Power though, because I didn't expect the show to go so far downhill. After Power I think I expected the worst, and these episodes were definitely the worst I've seen.
The acting was completely off except for JH and AM. The Toyman was okay, but the Lex Luthor scene (cringe). Michael Rosenbaum must be so glad he left. What a mess.
SuperheroFan87
02-06-2009, 10:22 AM
The Toyman was the only redeeming aspect of Requiem. A well played, creepy performance from the actor who played him.
Requiem gets points for having Toyman and doing an ace job with him. But it gets minus points for having Ollie being a murderer. It gets more points for bringing up the Chloeaic murder. It gets minus points for murdering Lex Luthor. And, if anyone should have done the deed it should have been Tess. Not sure how I feel about Kryptonite Girl and it being the reason for the end of Clana, but it works.
I have to go with Power by a hair.

I would say "power", it was such a shock lol. With "requiem" I was prepared.
Well, principle of denial, please : these 2 episodes don't exist, it was just a nightmare, soon, we will wake up and everything will be like before"

Power was just terrible. It was all about Lana and ended with her gaining superpowers and claiming to be Clark's equal as well as getting a Clana kiss on the roof of the DP (blasphemy).
Requiem was far better than Power. Toyman was awesome, the actor chosen to replace MR looked and sounded like him, and the episode moved along nicely. Requiem's fatal flaws were all of the character assasination to Clark, Oliver, and Chloe, and the terrible way that Clana was handled. Yet, even with all of the negatives, Requiem was still more enjoyable then Power.

I thought Power was bad and illogical. Lana was acting crazy and Clark had no problem with it.
Once I accepted that, I liked Requiem a lot because I thought it was good storytelling. Yes, they were telling a crazy story but I liked how things came full circle for Clana and it was part Lex's cruelty and Lana's lust for power that caused the tragic end of Clana and intense pain for Clark.
Requiem isn't exactly the one that rates better in my eyes, but let's just say that it rates a little "less worse" than Power...
Because at least we get to be rid of she-who-I-won't-say-the-name.
Finally!

I didn't like either of them, so it was really hard to vote. I ended up voting for "Power," but if they pitted that episode against... oh, about 130 other episodes of Smallville, I'd choose them over "Power" any day, so that's not saying much.

I think why it felt like were watching another show is that both Kristin and the writers wanted a proper send-off for Lana, but they had very different ideas of what the send-off would be. In the end, this is what they came up with. I imagine if the writers had gone with their original ideas, that it may have flowed a little better in the context of the season.

They are both good episodes, but Requiem takes the vote because the last scene was so heartbreaking, it's in the top ten heartbreaking scenes in Smallville. And of course, there's a new storyline, what happened to Lex? Is he really dead? And what's happening to Oliver? What's that green ring with an 'L' word on it? xD Requiem was cool. ;)

Sure, Requiem was bad.
But, Power was just HORRIBLE.

This will make my head implode. Power was bad because I spent half the episode shouting 'No, Lana! You have matured into a confident woman who doesn't need anything or anyone- not even a power suit. Wait. You hijacked the suit? You hijacked the suit from Lex? You put Chloe in a position that forced her to lie to her best friend? You know what, you haven't changed at all. Rock the suit, Lana- Ra!'
To watching Requiem thinking
'This is my hour of Smallville? Really? I guessed this outcome from the preview. Why is this taking so long? Lana, go suck up some magic K.
STOP YELLING AT CHLOE! She isn't seeing her bed ridden hospital bound husband to save the world, and you are playing 'break all the furniture' with Lana! Geez, give the girl a lift to Star City sometime, hypocrite.
Oh, wow. Oliver is twisted. Whoa. So is Chloe. You know, they make a really good team.'
So right now, I'm not happy with either episode. It'd be a coin toss on which was worse. Next episode, if Clark cries for Lana for more than three minutes, I will fast forward until Oliver is shirt less.
Requiem is my favorite of the two.
same to me :)

I agree, I thought that after Power, Clark would come to his senses. But no, it got worse.

I voted that requiem was worse just because I hoped it would clean up the mess that power made, but it didn't. It actually made things worse. I'm not even sure if the show can come back from this catastrophe of a story arc.

I think Requiem was better only because it had some high spots like the Toyman, Lex, and my whole suspicion that Lex is now in an Oliver Queen clone's body. I liked the stuff between Chloe & "Ollie"/"Lex" and think something is definitely up. That scene with "Ollie" and the ring was very interesting. Unfortunately the episode was ruined because of what Clark was reduced to morally (justifying the murder of Lex) and physically (lost the new pair of balls he was regrowing since the start of the season with his begging Lana to stay, rather than going out in style like Bogart with a "Here's lookin' at you kid" type of line).

Power was really bad and caused me to scream at the television. Requiem was marginally more entertaining because of toyman, but was worse because it caused irreparable damage to several characters, especially Ollie.

I find it hilarious that people think it's the end of Clana. The next six or seven episodes will undoubtably feature Clark crying and whining like a man child over this.

I agree with you Stenochick. I think that Requiem did about as well as it could after such a disaster as Power. Once I recovered from the "Power failure" (good one, whoever said that a few posts back!), I crossed my fingers and hoped for some redemption in Requieum. It was pretty obvious how it would play out (based on trailers), so that didn't come as a complete shock and I didn't mind it. I liked the references to the past -- Clark not being able to get "within five feet" of Lana, etc. I liked the comic booky aspect of the show with the Metropolis model and the Toy Man. I didn't mind the Lex substitute; I even thought he looked a bit like MR (although the voice was odd -- wish MR had done a voice over!)
The worst part of the episode was the bed breaking. I seriously thought Bizarro was back. But they whooshed past that scene so quickly I'm wondering why they even bothered to include it. As for those people who are up in arms over Ollie being a killer and Chloe covering for him, I think there is more to Ollie than meets the eye (as is being discussed in the spoilers/speculations forum), and I think Chloe will come around within an episode or two and tell Clark what Ollie did -- she has already shown us where her loyalty lies, she just needs some time to process it.

I actually liked Requiem thought it was a way better then power. Sure it was corny but loved toyman he was awesome wish they made a story arc for him or bring him back for a few more episodes. loved how they made lex seemed so evil and made him a true villian. I liked the ending with clark trying to kiss lana I got a tear from that. I also loved that song they played after lex got destroyed. And

I would say Requiem just because Lana FINALLY left for good. (Although,it is my firm belief that she should have just stayed away after the Arctic debacle.)
