I was just curious, and this is for the comic book fans who are familiar with Lana in the Supes comics... What exactly is Lana's destiny? It was eluded to in this episode, and it made me wonder what her place in the comics was.

Marry Pete Ross, bear him a son.
Brief turn as First Lady when Pete steps in for Lex.
Try to break up Lois and Clark's marriage. Divorce Pete.
Become LuthorCorp CEO.
Write bussiness column for Daily Planet and mentor Kara"Supergirl'Zor-El.
Sort of in that order with different twists depending on the writer.

Interesting, but I don't know if they're hinting at any of that at all. I can't wait to see what they will do with her...

Obviously Smallville is different from the comics. Basically in the comics; Lana is the girl Clark leaves behind in Smallville. Lana knows Clark is an alien and that he becomes Superman. If you watched Smallville from the beginning, then you remember in S3 when Clark sees glimpses of Jor-El's past when he is romancing a female human being (Lana's aunt). Basically almost every flashback scene is what really happens in the comics when Clark tells Lana he is an alien. To some degree or another.
-They were high school sweethearts, Clark asks Lana to go for a walk with him one night, and he tells her how one man can make a difference in the world. Then he shows her all his powers: flight, heat vision, telling her that he is that person who can make a difference. He tells her that he has to leave to go make that difference. Originally she was hoping he was going to propose to her. After he flies her around the world showing her various parts of the world like Chris Reeve did with Margot Kidder in the Superman movies. She reluctantly gives up on her dream knowing it would be selfish of her to keep him all to herself. But it is known that she always loves Clark as more than a friend.
In the comics Lana marries Pete Ross and they have a son they name after Clark. Pete Ross becomes the vice president of the United States after Lex Luthor is forced to step down after various scandals. Pete Ross was white in the comics and didn't hate or know Lex Luthor from their childhood. She even goes to Metropolis to comfort Lois, Martha and Jonathan Kent when Doomsday kills Clark/Superman. Pa Kent didn't die in the comics. She calls up Jonathan after Clark dies on the TV asking Jonathan for comfort and trying to comfort Clark's parents. She does this when Pete Ross isn't around because Pete doesn't know Clark's secret. Pete was jealous of Clark because Lana was the one who had the crush on Clark in high school. That is about all I know about Lana Lang from the comics; hope this helps a little.

(Actually, Pa Kent did die in some comic story lines...)

Pa Kent just recently died in the Brainiac storyline that ran through Action Comics, which I believe Geoff Johns is currrently writing on.

And more recently, Lana became VP of Lexcorp set off kryptonite landmines and Superman told her that that was one of the many reasons he was with Lois-because Lois never would have pulled the trigger on those.
She doesn't really have a 'great destiny' except for the stories where she was Insect Queen due to a magic ring. But in that same era, Jimmy Olsen was Elastic Lad and Lana and Lois were always duking it out over Superman in various ridiculous situations in Lois Lane, Superman's girlfriend.
Anyways, I think this is SV canon where Lana has a 'great destiny.'

people have already summed up Lana's role in the books till now. But whatever Lana's ultimate destiny is, I'm sure the last Lana Lang story is a long way from being written.

well, that was out-of-continuity so it technically never happened

Oh, my bad. Thanks for the correction.
And you're right-the last Lana Lang story hasn't been written yet. I think whatever destiny is coming is going to be Smallville-ized, and maybe some of it will make it into the comics.
Despite my dislike for SV's Lana, I actually do like Lana in the comics, so I would love to see new arcs for her. (except for all that weird Superman's Girlfriend stuff, but I don't like Lois in that either, so that says something)

i think her destiny is not one "set" so to speak, i think its not about where she is "supposed" to go in the comics but that she is not pointless
smallville is different hence CHLOE
immortal? i think so :)

Yeah, I was going to say, when they kept talking about her "destiny" I didn't recall any grand role she plays later on. Essentially the way Rokk sums everything up is pretty much her role in the show- she is just one of many people who molds Clark into being the hero he.......should have already become a couple years ago v_v;;...

Wow. That's interesting. I always thought she was like Lana from Superman 3. Still living in Smallville and hung up on Clark.

That depends on the comic.
Sometimes she's a witch, others she's the insect queen. In the old continuity she dies in the final story (Superman #423 and Action Comics #583).

Yeah, that's pretty much it. During the years, most writers brought Lana back into the limelight when sales were down and they wanted to promote a little jealousy between Lois and Lana. ;)
